Morris O. Kaldor, 88, Arlington, Wash., formerly of Mayville, died May 4, 2001, in an Arlington care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Aal Lutheran Church, rural Hillsboro. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Bertha; two sons, Daniel, Conroe, Texas, and Alton, Beulah; one daughter, Melody Bohnsack, Arlington, Wash.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willard, Billings, Mont., and Kenneth, Mayville; and one sister, Harriet Ulland, Mayville. Evenor Kapanke
UNDERWOOD -- Evenor Kapanke, 83, Underwood, formerly of Ruso, died May 7, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Goetz Funeral Chapel, Turtle Lake, with the Rev. Jeanine Kersey-Russell officiating. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Evenor O. Kapanke was born Aug. 6, 1917, in rural Ruso, to Emil and Minnie (Look) Kapanke. He grew up on his parents' farm southeast of Ruso, where he attended rural school. He worked in Montana for various farmers before being drafted to serve in the U.S. Army in 1941. He served in the Philippines and was wounded in 1945 near Luzon. He was awarded the Purple Heart and received many Bronze Stars while serving his country. He returned to American soil where he was hospitalized for one year. He was discharged from the Army March 22, 1946. Evenor worked at a meat-packing plant in Fargo before returning to the family farm located north of Turtle Lake. He managed the family farm alongside his brother until August 1993. He moved to Garrison, where he lived in the McLean Manor for four years before entering Prairieview Nursing Home Dec. 6, 1997. Evenor enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and was a member of Turtle Lake American Legion Post for 57 years. He is survived by five sisters, Frances Grueneich, Bismarck, Cerena Gill and Beatrice Kapanke, both of San Diego, Calif., Delores Nothdurft, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Lametta Fawcett, Elk River, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.

Richard Mann
Richard C. Mann, 87, Bismarck, formerly of rural Underwood, died May 7, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Laurie Natwick and Jack Eichhorst officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church Friday. Richard was born July 19, 1913, in rural Underwood, to John Robert and Marie (Page) Mann. In 1917 the Mann family moved to Essex County, Va., which was John Mann's original home. Richard attended school in Christ Church Episcopal School in Urbanna, Va., in the 1920s. From 1933 to 1935 he worked for Civilian Conservation Corp as a hospital orderly at Langley Field and Spotsylvania, Va. In 1935 Richard moved back to farm his father's homestead in the Hancock Bottoms, McLean County. On Oct. 4, 1936, Richard married Elaine Rosberg in rural Underwood. He farmed and ranched until he retired from active farming in 1969. They moved to Bismarck in the fall of 1986. Richard became a resident of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck in February 2000. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling and had served as president of the McLean County Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. of Turtle Lake from 1970 to 1974. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; two daughters and sons-in-law, Audrey and Clark Crum, Bismarck, and Margaret and Robert Tollerud, Devils Lake; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marilyn Mann, Plentywood, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and three brothers.

Lillian Morin
HEBRON -- Lillian Morin, 74, Hebron, died May 6, 2001, in Mandan. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT today at St. John United Church of Christ, Hebron, with the Rev. Herbert Schauer officiating. Burial will be in St. John Wittenburg Cemetery, rural Zap. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services today at the church. Lillian was born April 1, 1927, in Bismarck, the daughter of John and Christine (Zeller) Wiedrich. She was raised north of Zap and attended the Zap school, where she graduated in 1944. She attended business college in Bismarck, then taught school near Walhalla. Lillian married Neil Morin May 31, 1951, in Cavalier. Following marriage, they resided in Walhalla for several years, then Beulah and New Salem. They moved to Hebron in June 1960 where Lillian worked for Dr. Oakes as a dental assistant and later as a bookkeeper for Auto Implement. She retired in 1971. Lillian loved and enjoyed her cats as well as her neighbors and had said she lived in an excellent neighborhood. Her daughters agree that she was the best mother ever. She is survived by her husband, Neil; two daughters, Shelley and Duane Barth, Jamestown, and Marcia and Tim Brandvold, St. Joseph, Minn.; two grandsons, Duane William Barth II and Justin John Barth; six grandkits, Azure, Aqua, Dez, Duffy II, Thomas and Baby; two brothers, Gottlieb Wiedrich, Beulah, and Leo Wiedrich, Zap; one sister, Erna Sasse, Wilton; two stepsisters, Vivian Cally, Corvalis, Ore., and Bernice Blumhardt, Longview, Wash.; and one brother-in-law, Reinhold Bauer, Golden Valley. She was preceded in death by one son, Rocky; her parents; two sisters, Ella and Alma; and one brother, Walter. The family prefers memorials to the St. John Church Elevator Fund. RUGBY -- Helen P. Olsen, 78, Rugby, died May 1, 2001, in a Rugby medical center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Little Flower Catholic Church, Rugby. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Barton. She is survived by one daughter, Beatrice Purtee, Union, Mich.; two sons, Howard, Gulf Port, Miss., and Brian, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Solem and Clara Brossart, both of Rugby; and four brothers, George Schniebel, Grand Forks, Leonard Schniebel, Bismarck, Frank Schniebel, Colorado, and Jim Schniebel, Great Falls, Mont. Mary Renville
TRENTON -- Mary C. Renville, 98, Trenton, died May 6, 2001, in a Williston care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston. Burial will be in Trenton Cemetery, Trenton. She is survived by two sons, Joe, Casper, Wyo., and Vic, Williston; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Joshua Saunders
Joshua James Saunders, 19, Monticello, Minn., died April 19, 2001, following a one-vehicle rollover near Monticello. Services were held April 23 at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Monticello. Burial was in the church cemetery. Joshua was born Sept. 18, 1981, in LaJolla, Calif., to James and Joyce (Steckler) Saunders. At a young age, he moved with his family to Monticello. Josh attended school in Monticello for 12 years and graduated in 1999 from Monticello High School. He attended Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyo., for one year, studying rebuilding cars and was planning to open his own custom shop after college. Josh was known for his artistic talents. He loved to draw, paint and airbrush. His artistic abilities showed in the detail painting of the cars he rebuilt. Josh also had a giving nature. He earned his Eagle Scout badge in 1998. His Eagle Scout project was collecting books for a school library that burned and all of its books were destroyed. Josh will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Joyce; one sister, Morriah, 14; his grandparents, Leonard and Hildegarde Steckler, Mandan; his uncles and aunts, John and Gloria Steckler, St. Anthony, Mark and Charlotte Schmidt, Mandan, Lanny and Lenora Kenner and Myron and Marlys Steckler, all of Bismarck, and John and Christine Saunders, Moncks Corner, S.C.; his cousins, Emily and Aaron Steckler, Travis and Preston Schmidt, Sheena, Ethan and Jordan Kenner and Tyler and Kristina Steckler; and his best friend, Jordan Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Catherine Saunders.

Emma Schanilec
MINTO -- Emma Schanilec, 95, Minto and Veseleyville, died May 6, 2001, in a Grafton care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Veseleyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Gen Barta, Minto, and Connie McDonald, Bismarck; three sons, Herman, Mesa, Ariz., Ernie, Vergas, Minn., and Vern, Camas, Wash.; 34 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Votava, Grafton. Sandra Schlenvogt
MOTT -- Sandra C. Schlenvogt, 61, Mott, died April 28, 2001, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at United Church of Christ, Mott. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. CDT in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. She is survived by three stepdaughters, Carla Evans, San Jose, Calif., Laura Rieck, Crawford, Colo., and Donna Backus, Mission Viejo, Calif.; eight step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Illene Rogers, Plymouth, Calif., and Barbara Makamota, Watsonville, Calif. Frieda Stiefel
Frieda Stiefel, 85, Bismarck, died May 7, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, with the Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be held at 5 p.m. CST in Hazen Cemetery, Hazen. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Frieda Ellwein was born Feb. 4, 1916, the daughter of John and Katherine (Sailer) Ellwein. She was raised and attended schools north of Hazen. She married Herbert Stiefel Feb. 9, 1941, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, north of Hazen. Frieda and Herbert farmed for 12 years west of Pick City. While Herbert was working on cattle ranches, Frieda provided for her family and the folks working on the ranch. They moved to Cando in 1962, where Frieda worked at Towner County Memorial Hospital until her retirement. They moved to Bismarck in 1988. Herbert died in 1994. Frieda's passions throughout her life were devotion to her family, friends and God. She enjoyed providing a good meal to all who sat at her table. Frieda taught Sunday School and worked with the quilting guild at Cando Lutheran Church. Frieda, Herbert and their family deeply appreciated the love, care and concern they received at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. She is survived by her three sons and two daughters-in-law, Herbert and Delores, Fountain Valley, Calif., John and Marcia, Bismarck, and James, San Diego, Calif.; her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Chuck Olin, Stevensville, Mich.; two grandchildren, Cory and Dan; two great-granddaughters, Keeley and Maya; and one brother, Albert Ellwein, Litchfield Park, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband; her granddaughter; three brothers; and one sister.

Gerald Vallier
OBERON -- Gerald Vallier, 76, Oberon, died May 8, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Oberon. Further arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

Tyrone White Sr.
Tyrone T. White Sr., 54, Lantry, S.D., died May 3, 2001, in Rochester, Minn. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ralph Wells Memorial Complex, White Shield. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery, rural White Shield. He is survived by his wife, Doris; three sons, Lance, Tyson and Ronnie Jr., all of Eagle Butte, S.D.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Birdie Chase, New Town, and Kathy Samsuls, Beulah; and seven brothers, Loren White Sr., Eugene White Sr. and Max James, all of White Shield, Lewis White Sr., Rosebud, S.D., Robert White, New Town, James White, Turtle Lake, and Donald White, Grove, Okla.

Nora Alveshere
YORK -- Nora Alveshere, 77, York, died Oct. 9, 2000, in the Rugby hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock, with burial in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, Harlow. She is survived by her husband, Ward; one daughter, Noreen Halstensgaard, Milnor; two grandchildren; four sisters, Cora Freeman, Salinas, Calif., Irene Koenig, Santa Rosa, Calif., Fern Bradley, American Canyon, Calif., and Ella Alveshere, Harlow.

Kermit Bergsgaard
MADDOCK -- Kermit Bergsgaard, 84, Maddock, died Oct. 10, 2000, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock. Further arrangements are pending at Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

George Block
George Block, 91, 114 N. Third St., died Oct. 9, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. George Block was born Nov. 6, 1908, in Nassau, Minn., the son of Richard and Anna (Trojahn) Block. He was raised and educated in Sioux County. George farmed in the Freda and Raleigh area. He just recently moved to Bismarck. He is survived by one brother, Clarence; his nephews and their spouses, Dick and Lorna Hallahan, Minot, Mike and Lorna Hallahan, Tacoma, Wash., Duane Berry, Bismarck, Cal and Jodeene Berry, all of Mandan, and Ken Berry, Denver; and his nieces, Anna Hohbein, Mandan, Betty and Arnold Wagy, Shields, and Lois and Lynn Mouw, Fayetteville, N.C.; one aunt, Caroline Trojohn, Madison, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harry; his nephews, Bill Haider and Chuckie Berry; and four sisters, Ida and Tillie Hallahan, Ann Haider and Esther Berry.

Emily Isaak
KULM -- Emily Isaak, 96, Kulm, died Oct. 10, 2000, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church, Kulm, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Elmer Hildebrand, Kulm, and Vernon Hildebrand, Escondido, Calif.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Peggy Cichos, Fargo; one step-granddaughter; two step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Dobler, Wishek. Michael Johnson
ANAMOOSE -- Michael Johnson, 46, Anamoose, died Oct. 9, 2000, in the Garrison hospital of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva, with the Revs. Joseph Senger and Dan Mrnarevic officiating. Burial will be in Bethania Cemetery, rural Karlsruhe. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today at Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home, Drake. A vigil service will begin at 7 tonight at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva. Michael was born March 20, 1954, at Minot, the son of Harry and Randy (Mittleider) Johnson. He graduated from Anamoose High School in 1972. On May 3, 1974, he married Marie Grad at Selz. Mike lived at Karlsruhe and Velva while he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 24 years. He was a member of ST. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva. Mike was a loving and dedicated father who rarely missed his sons' events. He enjoyed ice cream, hunting, fishing and the outdoors in general. Mike also loved spending time with his family and friends, and will be missed by all who were blessed enough to have known him. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Jessica Johnson, and Darin and Telli Johnson, all of Bismarck; his parents, Harry and Randy Johnson, Anamoose; one sister, Tanya Glaser, Anamoose; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Bea Johnson, and Todd and Michelle Johnson, all of Anamoose; his special friend, Janet Hazel, Velva; four nephews, Eric Johnson, Tyler and Chris Volk, and Jared Seibel; and three nieces, Kristen Glaser, Brianne Johnson and Kendra Seibel. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents; and an infant brother, Guy.

Darrel D. Lambrecht
TIOGA -- Darrel D. Lambrecht, 68, Tioga, died Oct. 9, 2000, in the Tioga hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Tioga, with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; two sons, Daren, Tioga, and Brett, Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Nancy Burchill, Bismarck, and Stacy French, Malta, Mont.; three brothers, Larry, Mandan, Gordon, Park Rapids, Minn., and Greg, Devils Lake; one sister, Gloria Olson, Rosemount, Minn.; and four grandchildren. Magnus Munson
CARRINGTON -- Magnus Munson, 96, Carrington, died Oct. 10, 2000, in the Carrington care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington. Further arrangements are pending at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

John Myrdal
EDINBURG -- John Myrdal, 76, Edinburg, died Oct. 9, 2000, in his home in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pioneer Lutheran Church, Gardar, with burial in Gardar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 tonight at Tollefson Funeral Home, Edinburg, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. John Myrdal was born June 17, 1924, in Gardar, the son of the late Thorstein S. and Aldis E. (Johanneson) Myrdal. He grew up and attended school in Gardar and graduated from North Dakota State University in 1951. He married Rosemarie Lohse on June 21, 1952, in Fargo. The couple returned to Gardar and farmed until retiring in 1990. He was a member of Pembina Hills Lutheran Church -- Gardar District; a member of the Edinburg Fire Department where he served as treasurer; a member of North Dakota Dietetic Practice Board and Pembina County ASC Committee. He served as a 4-H leader in Gardar, and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Roe Fraternity of NDSU. He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jan Ellen and Scott Morrell, Vienna, Va., and amy Myrdal, Framingham, Maine; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Janne, Edinburg, Harold and Charlotte, Park River, and Paul and Naomi, Edinburg; nine grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Spencer Tiffany, Holland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Eleanor Keller.

Christine L. Notah
CANNON BALL -- Christine L. Notah, 71, Parker, Ariz., died Oct. 4, 2000, in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Veterans Memorial Building, Cannon Ball. Further arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Joseph Sickler
DICKINSON -- Joseph Sickler Sr., 84, Dickinson, died Oct. 11, 2000, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.
