Gladys Haadem
Gladys Haadem, 87, of Tappen, N.D., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at her daughter's home in McGregor, Minn.
Gladys Viola Englerth was born on Aug. 20, 1913, in Stirum, N.D., the daughter of Sebastian and Olphelia (Wilke) Englerth. The family moved to Robinson, N.D., when she was 5. She attended school at Robinson, graduating from Robinson High School. She attended Jamestown College and Valley City (N.D.) State University, where she received her teaching degree. She taught in rural schools around Tappen, Tuttle, and Robinson. She married Roy Haadem of Tappen on June 8, 1939, at Bowdon, N.D. She was member of St. John's Ladies Aid, Tappen Homemakers's Club, a 4-H leader, a substitute teacher, and served as clerk of the Tanner School District. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
She is survived by two sons, Tilman (Judy), Tappen, and ElRoy (Carol), Bismarck, N.D.; two daughters, Mona Kay Haadem, McGregor, Minn., and Gay Ann Haadem, Bismarck; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Rowene; a brother, Leo; a sister, Pearl Wick; and two grandsons.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tappen. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Tappen Cemetery, Tappen.
Sarah Kreutsberg
Sarah Kreutsberg, 83, Jamestown, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.
Sarah Mary Kreutsberg was born Nov. 15, 1917, on the family farm in Russell Township near Edgeley, N.D., the daughter John P. Sr. and Minnie G. (Peterson) Kreutsberg. She was raised on the farm and educated in the Russell Township school. Following the death of her parents she was cared for by her sister, Elsie. She and Elsie left the farm in 1943 and worked in Colorado and Indiana, and eventually moved to Jamestown. They lived in the Gardenette Apartments until they entered Hi-Acres Manor in 1985.
She is survived by a brother, Elmer, Hi-Acres Manor, Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, George, John, Fred and Russell; and three sisters, Minnie Kroll, Laura Stemen and Elsie Kreutsberg.
Services: 2:30 p.m. Nov. 20, Hi-Acres Manor Chapel, Jamestown.
Visitation: One hour before the service at Hi-Acres Manor Chapel. Arrangements by Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
Lillian Parker
Lillian C. Parker, 87, New Rockford, N.D., died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at her home.
Lillian Cora Piltingsrud was born Feb. 14, 1913, at Leeds, N.D., the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Gronvold) Piltingsrud. She was raised and attended school at Leeds, and graduated from high school in 1931. She attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., for one year before going to the University of Minnesota to complete her nursing degree. She worked at University Hospital as a nursing supervisor. She later returned to North Dakota and married Chester Parker on Aug. 20, 1939, at her parents' home in Leeds. They lived at Petersburg, then McVille, N.D., where she helped start the Community Hospital. In 1959 they moved to New Rockford, where she worked at the City Hospital from 1959-75. She was a member of the Minerva Club, homemakers, book club, Federated Music Club, First Lutheran Quilting Group, First Lutheran Church and the church circle, and was the church organist for many years in Petersburg and McVille. She enjoyed sewing, music, cooking, and spending time at their lake cottage near Bemidji, Minn.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Kay (Del) Stein, Eden Prairie, Minn., Janice (Robert) Manly, New Rockford, and Judy (Dr. Robert) Johnson, Grand Forks, N.D.; three sisters, Marion Erickson, Long Prairie, Minn., Alice Bullard, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Helen Temple, Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Dr. Harold (Sue), Park River, N.D., and Clarence (Katherine), Canon City, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Thelma "Sally" Johnson.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, First Lutheran Church, New Rockford, with the Rev. Jeffrey Johnson officiating. Arrangements by Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
Marian Diemert
Marian A. Diemert, 76, Ellendale, N.D., died Nov. 15, 2000, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, S.D.
Marian A. Gulmon was born Sept. 21, 1924, at Sanborn, N.D., the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Bagley) Gulmon. She graduated from Sanborn High School and attended Alamo City Business College, San Antonio, Texas. She worked as a secretary at the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center and was a secretary for the Corps of Engineers in Seattle, Wash. She married Stanley Diemert May 9, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sanborn. They lived in Edgeley, N.D., where she taught piano lessons and was active in the Catholic Church of the Transfiguration choir. They moved to Ellendale in 1965, where she continued to teach piano lessons and was active in St. Helena's Catholic Church and the choir. He died Jan. 26, 1982. She was a member of St. Helena's Catholic Church. She enjoyed music, ceramics and Norwegian rosemaling.
She is survived by two sons, Bill (Cheryl), Denver, Colo., and Barry (Kim), Ellendale; two sisters, Della Mae Gulmon, Little Rock, Ark., and Geraldine Sutherlund, Jackson, Miss.; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sons, three brothers and a sister.
Services: 10 a.m. Nov. 20, St. Helena's Catholic Church, Ellendale, with the Revs. Gary Luiten and Jerome Hunkler officiating. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.
Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sanborn, in the spring.
Esther Birkedahl
Esther M. Birkedahl, 79, Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Life Care Nursing Home, Las Vegas.
Esther Mae Spidahl was born Oct. 11, 1921, at Jamestown, the daughter of John and Hilda (Slaatenhus) Spidahl. She grew up and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1939.
She is survived by two sons, John Attleson, Greely, Colo., and Allen Birkedahl, Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Evelyn (Wayne) Hinrichs, Las Vegas; two sisters, Eleanor Williams, San Diego, Calif., and Helen Edgekoski, Crookston, Minn.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Trygve Birkedahl; a son, David Birkedahl; an infant daughter, Colleen; her parents; two brother and three sisters.
Services: None held.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, at a later date.
Dorothy Peske
Dorothy A. Peske, 80, Sun City, Ariz., died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Sun City.
Dorothy A. Peske was born Aug. 16, 1920, at Mercer, N.D., the daughter of Carl A. and Louise C. (Muller) Peske. She grew up in Jamestown. She was a longtime legal secretary for a law firm in Minneapolis, Minn., retiring to Arizona in 1985.
She is survived by seven nieces and nephews and a cousin in Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Peske; and two brothers, Robert and Charles.

Sandra Connell
Sandra Connell, 40, Princeton, Minn., died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in an automobile accident near Mitchell, S.D.
Sandra Mallick was born Feb. 21, 1960, at Tyndal Air Force Base, Bay County, Fla., the daughter of Gerald and Eileen (Butler) Mallick. She was baptized in Bay County. In 1964 she moved with her family to Jamestown, where she was confirmed. In 1978 she graduated from Jamestown High School. She attended St. Catherine's College, St. Paul, Minn., receiving her bachelor's degree in history in 1982. After her education she worked at Farmington, Minn., for a short time as an air traffic controller before moving to LaCrosse, Wis., where she also worked as an air traffic controller. She married Charles "Chuck" Connell Oct. 23, 1986, in St. Paul, Minn. They lived in St. Paul. In April 1987 she became one of the original staff at the Princeton Flight Service Station. In September 1987 they moved to Princeton. She was a member and current president of the Friends of Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, a current board member of Minnesota Deer Hunters Association - Isanti County Chapter, and a volunteer instructor for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Advanced Hunter Education Program. She enjoyed reading, needle point and the outdoors.
She is survived by her husband; a sister, Theresa Mallick, Princeton; and a brother, James, Edmonds, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services: 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, Williams-Hanson-Kaun Funeral Chapel, Princeton.
Erma Suemnicht
Erma L. Suemnicht, 81, Sacramento, Calif., died Nov. 2, 2000.
Erma Louise Bosten was born Sept. 1, 1919, at Edgeley, N.D., the daughter of Joseph and Nellie (Studebaker) Bosten. She graduated from Edgeley High School and the State Teachers College, Valley City, N.D., where she received a bachelor's degree in education. She taught school in many rural North Dakota districts. She married Arthur Richard Suemnicht in 1943. They moved to Ashland, Ore., in 1962, and to Sacramento in 1967. She continued to teach in San Juan Unified School District until retiring in 1982.
She is survived by a son, Gene, Rutland, Vt.; a brother, Don, Rutland; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Dale; and a sister, Eva Suemnicht.
