Harold Larson
BEULAH --ÝHarold "Lars" Larson, 77, Knife River Care Center, Beulah, formerly of Hazen, died March 2, 2001, in the care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at English Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. Bill Wagner officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. today at Knife River Care Center, and will continue from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.
Harold "Lars" Larson was born Oct. 6, 1923, a son of William and Florence (Johnson) Larson, near Baldwin where he was raised and educated. He began working at the Wilton Lignite Mine until being called into service in the U.S. Army on March 11, 1943. He served in World War II in the European Theater and the Mediterranean Theater, where he received wounds for which he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Following his discharge on Sept. 30, 1945, Lars began working at the North Star Mine north of Hazen. On Aug. 2, 1947, he married Mabel Heine at English Lutheran Church, Hazen.
After the closing of the North Star Mine, he worked at the Glen Harold Mine near Stanton until retiring in 1987. Lars loved working in his yard and garden. In the early 1960s he served as coach of the Hazen American Legion baseball team. He was an avid sportsman and played fast pitch softball for the Kitchen Bar in his younger years.
Lars was a member of English Lutheran Church, Hazen, the Herman Schmidt VFW Post 7759 of Beulah, the Clark Grosz American Legion Post 189 of Hazen, where he played with the Drum and Bugle Corps, and the United Mine Workers of America.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenton and Mary Jo, Beulah, and Kevin and Cheryl, Fargo; four grandchildren, Anne, Kathryn, Christopher and Tyler Larson; one brother, Richard, Wilton; four sisters, Erma Knock, Totten Trail, Edna Mitzel, Bismarck, Helen Olson, Bismarck, and Ruth Kling, Vale, Ore.
Lars was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Elmer.
In lieu of flowers, the memorials are prefered to English Lutheran Church, Hazen, or the Alzheimer's Special Care Unit at Knife River Care Center, Beulah.
Lester Lund
WILLISTON -- Lester Lund, 81, Williston, died March 2, 2001, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.
Shirley Rolle
MADDOCK -- Shirley A. Rolle, 61, Maddock, died March 1, 2001, in her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Brethren Church, Maddock, with burial in Flora Lutheran Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; three daughters, Sharon Ebach and Peggy Bingham, both of Minnewaukan, and Wynell Kraft, Maddock; four sons, Wayne Jr., Sawyer, Gregory, Minnewaukan, John, Sioux Falls, S.D., and David Rolle, Fort Worth, Texas; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Fillner, Madison, Wis.; and two brothers, Freeman Jones, Flora, and Elmer Jones, Maddock. Lorraine Sahlstrom
HETTINGER -- Lorraine E. Sahlstrom, 82, formerly of Hettinger, died Feb. 26, 2001, in a St. Louis Park, Minn. hospital. A memorial service in Hettinger will be held at a later date.
She is survived by one son, Edward, Dickinson; one daughter, Gail Wilder, Edina, Minn.; three grandchildren; one brother, Alvin Haase, Chicago; and two sisters, Dorothy Connors and Ruth Carpenter, both of Chicago. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger)

WATFORD CITY -- Sigrid Sanford, 85, Watford City, died March 2, 2001, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Watford City, with burial in Schafer Cemetery, Watford City.
She is survived by one son, Doug, Bismarck; two daughters, Marlene Nelson and Beverly Leom, both of Watford City; one brother, Didrich Broderson, Watford City; one sister, Ragna Kreiger, Seattle; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City)
Robert Shear Sr.
BOWMAN --ÝRobert Shear Sr., 74, Bowman, died March 3, 2001, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Bowman Lutheran Church, with burial in Bowman Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores; three sons, Robert, Bowman, Dennis, Farmington, N.M., and Scott, Bowman; three daughters, Sandra Dubisar, Redmond, Ore., Connie Buchholz, St. Paul, Minn., and Lori Bagley, Billings, Mont.; two sisters, Hazel Strobel, Billings, and Bonnie Strobel, Rapid City, S.D.; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Clarence Solheim
TUTTLE -- Clarence Solheim, 88, a life-long Tuttle area farmer, died of cancer, March 1, 2001. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle, with the Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue one hour before services at the church. Visitation will also be held from 1-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel.
Myrtle Treichel
ELGIN -- Myrtle Treichel, 93, Saginaw, Mich., died March 1, 2001, in a Saginaw hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MST Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elgin, with the Rev. Wayne Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Bentley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig.
Myrtle Kibbel, the daughter of the late Otto L. and Lilli (Terlinden) Kibbel, was born June 17, 1907, on the homestead near Bentley. She was married to Adolph Treichel on Jan. 22, 1930, at Elgin. Adolph died Jan. 10, 1991. She lived most of her life in Bentley and had made her home in Saginaw since 1980. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Saginaw.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Loraine and Douglas Stindt, Saginaw; two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Marion, Coloma, Wis., and Wilmer and Aileen, Bentley; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Dorothy Kibbel, Charlotte Treichel, Rachel Treichel and Bertha Kibbel. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Bryce and Robert Kibbel.
Beulah Uhrig
MORRISTOWN, S.D. -- Beulah M. Uhrig, 74, Morristown, died March 2, 2001, in a Lemmon hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Tuesday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Morristown, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Morristown.
She is survived by three sons, Steve, Sidney, Neb., Jim, Lemmon, and Gary, Morristown; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Byers, Baker, Mont., and Robert Byers, Billings, Mont.; and three sisters, Lillian Burns, Morristown, Elsie Sackmann, Lemmon, and Karen Rafferty, Sturgis. Herbert Vietz
MCCLUSKY --ÝHerbert Vietz, 85, McClusky, died peacefully March 1, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital after a long struggle with cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, McClusky. Burial will be in McClusky Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-7:30 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Hebert was born May 11, 1915, on the family farm near Denhoff. He was the son of Jacob and Katie (Heitzmann) Vietz. He was raised on the family homestead southeast of McClusky and educated in a country school near the farm.
Herbert married Elsie Krein on June 5, 1938, in McClusky. For the next four years they lived on a farm south of McClusky and then purchased a farm five miles east and six miles south of McClusky. There they raised four daughters and three sons. He farmed for 43 years and in 1985 semi-retired and moved into McClusky.
Herbert's love was raising quarter horses.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie Vietz; seven children, Lauren Vietz, McClusky, Lynn and Eloise Vietz, Bismarck, Kathy and Glenn Reinke, Kulm, Carol Brown, Wilton, Debbie and Wayne Castleberry, Houston, Texas, Leslie Vietz, Bismarck, and Renae and Rick Roberts, Memphis, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Louise Vietz, McClusky; six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Tillie Erickson, Carmicel, Calif., Alma Barker, Loma Linda, Calif., Doris and and Laverne Opp, Lincoln, Neb., Ann and Elmer Buchmiller, Uyucipa, Calif., Ruth and Carl Fode, Elk Grove, Lillian Krueger, Loma Linda; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Emil Vietz.

KILLDEER --ÝJohn Kolva, 86, Killdeer, died March 8, 2001, in the Killdeer care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.
Timothy Kukert
Timothy Kukert, 22, Bismarck, died March 6, 2001, in his home of natural causes. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.
Tim was born March 28, 1978, the son of Clyde and JoEllen (Lindsey) Kukert in Fargo. He was raised and educated in Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1996. He then attended Bismarck State College for three years in commercial art. He was employed at the Bismarck Tribune from 1986 to the present as an independent contractor. He was also employed at Red Lobster for the past two years. He enjoyed music, singing, playing his saxophone and guitar. He also enjoyed skateboarding, drawing and reading. He was devoted to his family and friends. Tim loved and lived life to the fullest. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents; one brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Sue, Sherwood; and his grandmother, Beth Lindsey, Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Norman; his grandparents, Leroy Lindsey, Albert Kukert and Leone Barnes; and one uncle, Dave Lindsey.
