Ronald Hohbein
Ronald L. Hohbein, 60, Bismarck, died Aug. 7, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital.
Mr. Hohbein was born Oct. 11, 1939, at Youngtown, N.D., the son of Alvin and Jean (Usselman) Hohbein. He attended Wachter Grade School and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1957. He served in the National Guard from 1957 to 1965. He married Charlotte Rasch Sept. 28, 1963. He worked for the Bismarck Coca Cola Bottling Company from 1958 until he retired in 1996. He was a member of the Amvets and American Legion and past president of the Sertoma Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for 40 years and served as head usher for the past four years. He promoted the youth group activities of the church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, making canes and centerpieces from diamond willow and other woodworking projects.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Troy (Kim), Bismarck; his mother, Bismarck; two sisters, Fay (Cliff) Caya, Mandan, N.D., and Joan Oberst, Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Alvin Jr. (Bea), Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Carolita (Buck) Unser, Orting, Wash., and Diane Schmidt, Mandan; a brother-in-law, Del (Isabel) Rasch, Dickinson, N.D.; and a special aunt, Hilda Reger, Eldridge, N.D.; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by twin grandsons in 1995; his father in 1980; a sister, Elaine, in 1999; and two brothers-in-law, Ron Oberst in 1998 and LeRoy Hoffmann in 1994.
Services: Held Aug. 10, First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Arrangements by Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Antonia Phiefer
Antonia Phiefer, 59, Jamestown, N.D., died Wednesday, August 2, 2000 at her home in Jamestown, N.D.
Antonia was born June 26, 1941, in Miaguey, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Antonio and Corro Carron. At a young age, she moved with her family to New York, where she attended public school 101 and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1958. She worked as a beautician for four years and for A T & T for 3 1/2 years while attending school.
She married Irwin Phiefer on April 13, 1959 in Maryland. In 1971 they moved to Phoenix, AZ. In 1986 they moved to Jamestown, N.D., where their home has been since.
Antonia was a member of the Basilica of St. James - Jamestown, N.D. She enjoyed fishing, taking pictures of wildlife, and music.
Antonia is survived by her husband, Irwin Phiefer, of Jamestown, N.D.; two sons, Mitchell Phiefer, of Peoria, AZ; David (Margie) Phiefer, of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Connie (Richard) Penuel, of Mesa, AZ; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial Service: 2:00 PM - Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at the Basilica of St. James - Jamestown, N.D., with Father Bernard Pfau officiating.
Vigil: 7:00 PM - Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Barbara Schatz
Barbara Schatz, 92, New Rockford, N.D., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.
Barbara Bachmeier was born May 1, 1908, at Orrin, N.D., the daughter of Anton and Anastasia (Braunnagel) Bachmeier. She was raised at Orrin and attended school there. She married Christ Schatz Oct. 28, 1929, at Blumenfield, N.D. They lived and farmed at Balfour, N.D., and Fessenden, N.D. They moved to New Rockford in 1947, where they farmed until 1973. The couple moved to New Rockford in 1978. He died Nov. 24, 1990. She entered the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, in May 1991. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Delores (Don) Reeck, Kent, Wash., and Eileen Schatz, Fargo, N.D.; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Edward; two daughters, Bernadine Gedrose and Margaret Nasbusch; a grandson; her parents; a sister; and six brothers.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford, with the Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating. Arrangements by Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: St. John's Cemetery, New Rockford.
Emelia Netz
Emelia Netz, 90, Ellendale, N.D., formerly of Kulm, N.D., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale.
Emelia Guggenhiemer was born Sept. 10, 1910, in New Danz, Russia, the daughter of Frederich and Elizabeth (Schultz) Guggenhiemer. She immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1912, and they homesteaded near Yale, Idaho. In 1919, after her father's death, the family relocated to Fredonia, N.D., where they farmed. She married Albert Netz March 22, 1929, at Fredonia. They farmed in the Fredonia and Kulm areas until they moved to Kulm in 1963. She moved to the Senior Village Apartments in Kulm in 1982, where she lived until 1992, when she moved to the Prince of Peace Care Center, Ellendale. He died June 4, 1988. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Kulm. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting and quilting.
She is survived by a daughter, Arlene (Herbert) Giesler, Kulm; a son, Duane (Retha), Sidney, Mont.; two sisters, Bertha Billigmier, Lodi, Calif., and Anetta Miller, Jackson, Calif.; a stepbrother, Fred Dittus, Jamestown; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three stepbrothers.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, First Congregational Church, Kulm, with the Rev. Bill Bradley officiating. Arrangements by Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.
Burial: Kulm Congregational Cemetery, Kulm.
Lucille Nelson
Lucille M. Nelson, 71, rural Pequot Lakes, Minn., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Brainerd, Minn.
Lucille Fish was born June 15, 1929, at Brainerd, the daughter of Lloyd W. and Lillian (Johnson) Fish. She grew up in Jamestown and graduated in 1947 from Jamestown High School. She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for more than 30 years, working in Jamestown, and Minneapolis, St. Cloud and Brainerd, Minn. She married Paul Nelson. She was a member of Crosslake Evangelical Free Church.
She is survived by a brother, Wesley, Savage, Minn.; and a stepgranddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, Crosslake Evangelical Free Church, Crosslake, Minn. Arrangements by Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd.
Burial: Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Brainerd.
Memorials: Preferred to Crosslake Evangelical Free Church.
Rachel Holloman
Rachel C. Holloman, 76, Carmichael, Calif., formerly Kidder County, North Dakota, died Sept. 18, 2000, at Carmichael.
She is survived by two daughters, Billie Jean Holloman and Patricia Renee Sanchez, both North Highlands, Calif.; three brothers, Gerhard Dockter, Sacramento, Calif., Edwin Rott, Medina, N.D., and Richard Rott, Jamestown; four sisters, Emma Hill and Frieda Teske, both Jamestown, Emelia Shauer, Stockton, Calif., and Maggie Daugs, McKinleyville, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Holloman Jr.
Services: Held Sept. 23, East Lawn Mortuary, Sacramento.
Private Burial: East Lawn Sierra Hills, Sacramento.
Agnes Christenson
Agnes M. Christenson, 96, Fargo, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at her home.
Agnes Marie Walley was born Dec. 18, 1903, the daughter of Arndt and Bertha Marie (Fjone) Walley. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school near Velva, N.D. She worked at Moos Grocery Store, Velva, and was a relief telephone operator. She married Lloyd Christenson. They lived in Minot and Jamestown, N.D. He died in 1988. In September 1992 she moved to Riverview Place, Fargo.
She is survived by a son, Paul A. (Corrine), Fargo; a daughter, Connie Rae (Charles) Simonsen, Sequim, Wash.; and two grandsons.
Burial: to be held at a later date at Velva.
Clarence Baker
Clarence "Bake" Baker, 88, Bremerton, Wash., died Sept. 17, 2000, at Alterra Clare Bridge Nursing Center, Silverdale, Wash.
Mr. Baker was born April 25, 1912, in Ringgold County, Iowa, the son of Harry and Martha (Shafer) Baker. He moved to North Dakota with his family when he was a child. He attended school and graduated from Carrington (N.D.) High School. He attended Valley City (N.D.) Teachers College and the University of Minnesota School of Mortuary Science. After college in 1938 he moved to Rolla, N.D., where he was employed by a furniture store/funeral home. He married Mary Allen Kennedy in 1941 in Rolla. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a pharmacist's mate in the South Pacific for two years. Following his discharge they moved to Bremerton, where he was employed as superintendent of Forest Lawn Cemetery, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church, Bremerton. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Bill, Bremerton; a daughter, Jan (Richard) Bogle, Bremerton; a sister, Floy Jones, Hedrick, Iowa; a brother, Glen (Amy) Baker, Melbourne, Fla.; and a grandchild.
Services: Held Sept. 21, Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church, Bremerton.
