CHURCHS FERRY -- Inger J. Nord, 82, Churchs Ferry, died March 24, 2000, in her home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Churchs Ferry. Further arrangements are pending at Nelson Funeral Home, Leeds.

Joe C. Schumacher
Joe C. Schumacher was born April 13, 1920, on a farm northeast of Zeeland, the son of Conrad and Josephine (Burgad) Schumacher. He attended a rural school. Joe worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. On June 15, 1943, he married Victoria Nold at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague. For the next 13 years they made their home on a farm northeast of Zeeland. They moved to a farmeast of Hague and farmed there until 1980, when they moved into Hague. Joe was a self-taught veterinarian and he enjoyed working with cattle and horses. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague. Joe died March 24, 2000, in the Strasburg care center. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Victoria; two sons, Eraine, Hague, and Brian, Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and George Walker, Mandan; two grandsons and their wives, George and Kim Walker, and Troy and Dina Walker; one brother, John, Rapid City, S.D.; and four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Maggie Heidrich, Nisland, S.D., Katie and Joe Nentl, Wheaton, Minn., Mary and Jake Heirich, Nisland, and Elsie and Donald Barth, Bismarck. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his half-brothers, Paul, Jake, Frank and Ben. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and will continue from 5-9 p.m. today at the church. A prayer service will begin at 7:30 tonight at the church. Visitation will also be held a the church one hour before services.

Bonnie Dell Grossman
MINOT -- Bonnie Dell Talley Grossman, 74, formerly of Minot and Hazen, died March 24, 2000, in a Beulah care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot. Visitation will be from 4-8:30 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Bonnie was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Minot, to Chester and D'Lela (Hightower) Talley. She was raised in Logan, where her mother owned and operated a grocery store and gas station. She attended Bell Elementary School and Minot High School, and graduated from a Tacoma, Wash. high school. While attended school in Washington and following her graduation, she was employed as a riveter by Boeing Aircraft Company and in the shipyards near Seattle. Bonnie married Benjamin Grossman on Sept. 3, 1948, in Minot. They made their home in the Minot area where she was employed as an X-ray technician at Trinity Medical Center and as a medical records specialist. Following their retirement they made their home in Hazen to be near family. Ben died on Feb. 25, 1996. Mrs. Grossman had been a resident of Trinity Homes from December 1997 to April 1999, before moving to the Knife River Care Center in Beulah. Mrs. Grossman was a member of North Hill Methodist Church and had been involved in a variety of activities associated with her family. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Colby, Velva; three sons, Paul and Peter, both of Hazen, and Parrell, Bismarck; and 12 grandchildren.

Oscar W. Gulland
Oscar W. Gulland, 82, Bismarck, died March 25, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jacob Kincaid officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Oscar was born April 14, 1917, the son of Henry and Anna (Storhaus) Gulland in Richland County. He was raised and educated in McLeod. He married Mrytle Lee in 1937 and ranched near McLeod for 20 years. They moved to Bismarck in 1966. He married Freda Becker Finck in1982. Oscar worked for the Bismarck School System for 17 years, retiring as head custodian at Rita Murphy Elementary School. He was an avid sportsman, and loved hunting, fishing, pinochle and walking with his buddies. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel and Carole, New Mexico, and Larry and Bet Becker, Oklahoma; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Murray and Chris Becker, Colorado, and Gary and Mary Kay Becker, Mandan; two sisters, Hilma Huseth, Wahpeton, and Marie Johnson, Leonard; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Ruth Fischer, Elgin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Bob and Edna Zerr. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mrytle; his second wife Freda; one son, Maure; six brothers and two sisters.

Kathleen Clara Landsberger
Kathleen Clara Landsberger was born Aug. 10, 1937, at Braddock, the daughter of Hubert and Louise (Feyereisen) Baker. She attended the Braddock school and graduated from Braddock High School in 1955. Kathleen received a teaching degree from Valley City State Teachers College. She taught at rural Zeeland and Hazelton schools, and at Hazelton Public School. On Feb. 7, 1959, she married Jerome Landsberger. They made their home on a farm northwest of Hazelton. Kathleen received a bachelor of science degree in 1980 from Mary College in Bismarck. She began teaching at Regent in 1980 and continued to teach at Regent until February 2000. Her husband died Dec. 22, 1992. On Oct. 18, 1996, she married Paul Woiwode at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Regent. They made their home in Regent. Kathleen was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church, Regent, a past member of St. Katherine's Catholic Church of Braddock, and St. Paul's Catholic Church of Hazelton, where she served her church as church organist. Music was her passion and she was very active in community musical productions. Kathleen taught piano lessons, was a charter member of the Music Boosters in Regent. She was devoted to her faith, taught CCD and was a member of the Altar Society. Kathleen died March 25, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Grateful to have shared her life are her two sons, Stephen, Crested Butte, Colo., and Christopher and his special friend, Julie, both of Bismarck; four daughters, Joan Ledesma, Buffalo, Minn., Vanessa Landsberger, Fargo, Collette Landsberger and her fiance, Steve, both of St. Paul, Minn., and Maureen Landsberger, Grand Forks; five grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Andy Schmidt, Braddock. In addition to her first husband, Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Tuesday at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Regent, with the Revs. Jeffrey Zwack and the Rev. Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery, Hazelton. Scripture readers will be her granddaughters, Savanna and Whitney Ledesma, with the first grade class of Regent serving as gift bearers. Vocal music will be provided by Regent High School Choir, with soloist Gena Erickson, the St. Henry's Church Choir, and Lacey Strand, clarinetist. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton. A prayer service will begin at 7:30 tonight at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hazelton, with the Rev. Bruce Krebs officiating.

CHURCHS FERRY -- Inger J. Nord, 82, Churchs Ferry, died March 24, 2000, in her home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Churchs Ferry. She is survived by her husband, Marvin; two sons, John, Devils Lake, and Olaf, Churchs Ferry; one daughter, Karen Williams, Minot; four grandchildren; one brother, Alf Kristoffersen, Alesund, Norway; and three sisters, Dagmar Lind, Reidun Lund and Marit Christiansen, all of Drammen, Norway. Berdella Ova
GACKLE -- Berdella Ova, 61, Gackle, died March 25, 2000, at her home near Gackle. Berdella was born May 5, 1938 at Streeter, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Buck) Wentz. She attended school in Streeter and graduated from Streeter High School in 1957. She worked at White Drug and First Federal Savings & Loan in Jamestown. Berdella married Darrell Ova on Feb. 19, 1960, in Streeter, North Dakota. They farmed near Alfred. They moved to Gackle in the fall of 1996. Berdella enjoyed crocheting, cooking, traveling, entertaining guests and spending time with her children, grandchildren and meeting people. Berdella was a member of the Alfred Homemakers Club and the American Legion Auxiliary for 40 years. Berdella is survived by her husband, Darrell Ova; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Glenn Otto, of Jamestown; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Natalie, Alfred; Kenneth and Lynette, Jamestown; and Bryan and Corraine, Bismarck; one sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Gerald Ova, Buchanan; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Norma Wentz, Streeter; her mother, Marie Wentz, of Gackle; and eight grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Church of The Nazarene, Jamestown, with the Rev. Richard Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight.

ALMONT -- Lillian Peterson, 82, Almont, died March 26, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday at Almont Lutheran Church. Further arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Leonard Boeckel
BEULAH -- Leonard Boeckel, 63, Beulah, died March 26, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital, following a long battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at Immanual Baptist Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Howard Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Baptist Cemetery, Beulah. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah. Leonard was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Beulah, the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Wolf) Boeckel. He grew up on his parents' farm and he attended a rural school for his education. Following his schooling, Leonard continued to help on his family's farm. He later owned and operated his own farm south of Beulah. On June 23, 1961, Leonard was united in marriage to Ruby Horn at the Assembly of God Church in Golden Valley. Together, he and Ruby were blessed with two children, Tammy and Leeta. Leonard farmed until the time of his death. He was active on the Mercer County Weed Board since 1981. Leonard was also a member of Immanual Baptist Church in Beulah. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was loved and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ruby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Keith Moore, and Leeta and Brad Seifert; six grandchildren, Toni Moore, Keith Moore, Samantha Seifert, Brandon Seifert, Jerad Seifert and Mindi Seifert, all of Beulah; seven sisters, Irene Fischer, Ruth Hausauer, Leona Reub, Janet Morast and her husband, Melvin, all of Beulah, Marjean Boeckel and Fay Hill, both of Bismarck, and Fern Schlender and her husband, Melvin, Golden Valley; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gaylen and Carol, Beulah, and Gary and Cleo, Hazen. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents. If desired, memorials can be sent to Immanual Baptist Church Building Fund in Beulah.

James C. DeBolt
James C. DeBolt, 64, Wilcox, Ariz., died March 25, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1326 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. Wednesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, wher a rosary will be said at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue Thursday until time of services. James C. DeBolt, the son of John H. and Mildred (Haugen) DeBolt, was born Aug. 25, 1935, in Jamestown. He was raised and educated in Jamestown and Riverdale, graduating from Riverdale High School. James served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1962. He was aircraft maintenance for Rohr Company, San Diego, Calif., for 15 years and worked as a coal mining welder in Wyoming for 20 years. James retired and moved to Arizona, living there the past two years. James was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by four brothers and sisters-in-law, John C. and Bobbi, Riodoso, N.M., Eldred and Judy, Woodlawn, Va., Roger and Linda, Watertown, Wis., and Charles and Julie, Mandan; and one sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Jim Holt, Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Darlene Dremann
Darlene (Nauman) Dremann, 61, 205 Second Ave. N.W., Mandan, died March 25, 2000, in her home, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Robert E. Feeney officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. today, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30 tonight. Darlene M. Miller was born April 20, 1938, in Mandan, the eldest daughter of Anton A. and Katherine (Doll) Miller Reisenauer. She was raised and educated in Mandan, where she attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Mandan High School in 1956. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Practical Nursing in Dickinson, and was then employed at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck, for many years, and Medcenter One Care Center in Mandan from 1976 until her medical retirement in 1997. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters and a Bible study group. Darlene was a very kind, gentle and loving woman with a beautiful smile who enjoyed life and was busy every minute. She was a very talented decorator and took pride in decorating her home and making crafts for her family and friends. She enjoyed baking (the best cookies ever), cooking and shopping. She was admired for her thrifty habits and was a great rummage saler. She found many treasures and knew where to get the best bargains. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Rhonda Nauman, Chippewa Falls, Wis., Randall Nauman, Mandan, Steve and Lana Nauman, Mandan, and Bruce Nauman, Hastings, Minn.; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Cheryl and Lane Magnuson, Bakersfield, Calif., and Sandy and Terry Dietz, Cindy Nauman, and Nancy Nauman, all of Mandan; her mother, Katherine Doll Miller Reisenauer, Mandan; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ann Morrison, and Deborah and Jim Dornheim, all of Mandan; 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Jaycee, Jett, Cody, Terra, Shawna, Brandi, Scott, Cole and Alex; very special friends, Lillian Sander and Grace Stidler; all the friends at Medcenter One Care Center, especially Edna Pfau and Fern Scott. She was preceded in death by her father. Darlene was a fighter who never gave up and her courage will be an inspiration to us all. She will be missed by many whose lives she touched, but she will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace in eternal life with Jesus.

RICHARDTON -- Janet Y. Hauck, 56, Richardton, died March 26, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Ron; two daughters, Sheri Aman, Richardton, and Debby Hermanson, West Yellowstone, Mont.; two sons, Roger, Buffalo, Wyo., and Darin, Richardton; her mother, Dorothy Espeseth, Crosby; four sisters, JoAnn Heltemes, Hewitt, Minn., Paulette Goff, Mavis Olson and Darlene Kroshus, all of Crosby; and seven grandchildren. MaryJane Elizabeth Just, 75, Mandan, died March 26, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. MaryJane Elizabeth was born July 7, 1924, at Hanover, Pa., the daughter of Harvy C. and Mable (Forman) Stremmel. She married Anton Schneider, June 23, 1945. He died in 1979 and she married Clarence Just on Aug. 19, 1983. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and John Hoflen, Fargo, Carol and Bob Schmit, Mandan,and Deborah and Jerry Theisen, Bismarck; her stepdaughter, Phyllis Cerezo, Detroit, Mich.; her stepson, Richard Just, Mandan; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law, Relda and Charley Geisey; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester C. and Mary Ann, Wilbert, Levere and Jenny, and Harold and Fay, all of Pennsylvania.

Kenneth J. Ketterling
WATAUGA, S.D. -- Kenneth J. Ketterling, 75, Watauga, died March 25, 2000, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MST Thursday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, McIntosh, with burial at 1:30 p.m. MST Thursday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Andrea Williams, Cokato, Minn.; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hugo, Lead, S.D., and LeRoy, Billings, Mont.; and four sisters, Hilda Hauge, Leith, N.D., Mildred Striegel, Carson, N.D., Leona Hehn, Elgin, N.D., and Lillian Neher, Powell, Wyo. Regina Kramer
STRASBURG -- Regina Kramer was born July 14, 1914, on a farm near Strasburg, the daughter of Thomas and Nathalia (Brickner) Wagner. She attended St. Benedict's Catholic School in Strasburg. On Jan. 15, 1936, she married John W. Kramer at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg. They made their home on a farm southwest of Strasburg for one year. They moved into Strasburg, but continued farming. Her husband died Sept. 16, 1993. Regina entered the Strasburg Care Center in 1995. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and St. Mary's Society. Regina was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a master seamstress and quilt maker. Regina died March 26, 2000, in the Strasburg care center. Grateful to have shared her life are two sons and daughters-in-law, Wally and Viola Kramer, and Les and Colleen Kramer, all of Bismarck; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Shirley and Paul Drall, Oxford, Mich., Karen and Dennis Terhark, Fargo, Karen Lee and Steve Scolfield, Watford City, and Mary Theresa Bradford, Loveland, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ray Henn, Linton. In addition to her husband, Regina was preceded in death by one daughter, Beulah; two brothers; and six sisters. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Colleen Kramer will be the scripture reader, and Beth and Andrea Silbernagel the gift bearers. Casketbearers will be Travis Scolfield, Chad Scolfield, Darin Kramer, Todd Kramer, Nick Silbernagel and Hannah Kramer.

Lillian Peterson
ALMONT -- Lillian Peterson, 82, wife, mother, grandmother, educator and artist, died March 26, 2000, in her home in Almont after an illness that was eased by the warm and supportive care of her family and friends. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Almont Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Van Vechten Crane officiating. Burial will be in Almont Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. MST today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Lillian was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Almont, the daughter of Jonathan and Emelie (Sorum) Pederson. She married Roman Peterson on June 25, 1944, at Bluff Dale Ranch. Lillian taught for many years in the Almont Public School system, at both elementary and high school levels and was very proud of having an influence in the lives of her students. Lillian was a faithful member of the Almont Lutheran Church, and her involvement in the Almont community included managing the Country Store for many years. Her interests included oil painting, crafts, greeting card design, writing and poetry. Most important, however, were her husband, children, grandchildren, family and home. Lillian, known as "Nan" to her family, is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Roman; her son and daughter-in-law, Rodney D. and Suzanne, and their family; her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Ralph Purcell; her granddaughter Allison and her husband, Steven Andrews, and their son, Alex; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Dagmar and Jim Stoeckel, Ruth Britton, Eleanor Hillemann, Mildred and Ken Christopher, and June and Dale Hove; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lillian will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and will long be remembered for her sense of humor. Memorials may be made in her name to the Almont Lutheran Church.

John F. Pleets
FORT YATES -- John F. Pleets, 72, Fort Yates, died March 25, 2000, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fort Yates, with the Rev. Bill Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by Standing Rock Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion units. A rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 1-3:30 p.m. Friday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. John was born April 27, 1927, in Fort Yates, as Francis Winters Jr. to Francis Winters and Martina Pleets. After the death of his mother, John was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Josephine and Jesse Pleets. He attended schools in Fort Yates, Pierre, S.D., and Flandreau, S.D. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, and was stationed on the U.S.S. Kitkun Bay (CVE-71) aircraft carrier during World War II. He experienced invasions and sea battles at Siapian Island, South Pacific Islands, Philippine Islands and others. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Naval service in May 1946. He was awarded the American Arear Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal (4 stars), Philippine Liberation Medal (2 stars) and the World War II Victory Medal. After his discharge, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army, then re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy and also the U.S. Air Force. He attended vocational training in Roswell, N.M. John married Theresa Dudley (Yellowfat) on July 26, 1980. They lived and worked for the past 20 years in Fort Yates. John was employed as an addiction counselor with the Chemical Prevention Program and then as supervisor of the janitorial services of Standing Rock High School before retiring. John leaves his wife, Theresa; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Debbie Dudley and Roy Montclair Jr., Fort Yates, Sandra and Marc Dog Eagle Sr., Fort Yates; special nieces, Kathy Buffalo Boy, Tracy Buffalo Boy, Gayleen Yellowfat, LaDean Bendickson, all of Fort Yates, Nadine Tepper, Grand Forks, Roberta Pleets High Elk, New Town; sisters, Patty Isselhardt, Caseyville, Ill., Jerdine McDowell, Phoenix, and Thelma Winters, Fort Yates. He was preceded in death by his parents; his adoptive parents; four sisters; and two brothers.

Stewart Schmid
Stewart Schmid, 73, Bismarck, died March 27, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

June Snyder
GARRISON -- June Snyder, 60, Garrison, died March 26, 2000, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Wesley I. Spillum
RUGBY -- Services for Wesley I. Spillum, 86, Rugby, were held March 27 at Emmanuel United Church in Rugby, with burial in Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby. He is survived by one daughter, Judy Adamson, West Fargo; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. (Anderson Funeral Home, Rugby)
