Vernon Flowers
Vernon Lewis Flowers, was born to Truman Flowers and Mary (Rix) Flowers on April 30, 1921, on his grandparents' farm in Fort Lincoln.
He went home to his Lord on March 9, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer. He served in the Armed Forces during World War II, stationed in Rome, Italy. Vern worked in construction and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union since 1957. After his retirement he continued to work on his own with his dozers and dump trucks. In 1965 he married Beverly Borner.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo and Bob; one sister, Rose; and his stepson, Arnie Borner.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Bobbie, Coeur D' Alene, Idaho; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Tom Fortune, Hardin, Mont., and Pamela and Raul Sanchez, Billings, Mont.; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Linda and Rick Rogers, Huntley, Mont.; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Steven and Becki Beehler, Davenport, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a very special person who cared for him the past few years, Margaret Kenaston.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Billings, Mont. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be in Fort Lincoln, N.D. at a later date.
Memorials may be sent to Big Sky Hospice or Parkview Convalescent Care Center.

DICKINSON -- Edward G. Hintz, 70, Dickinson, died March 10, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Tuesday at United Church of Christ, Mott, with burial in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott.

MINOT -- Normen Grubb, 73, Minot, died March 12, 2000, in a Chula Vista, Calif. hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church, Minot, and at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lake Assembly of God Church, Powers Lake. Jack Hoffman
Jack Hoffman, 73, 225 E. Kavaney Drive, died March 13, 2000, after a long illness which was eased by the warm and supportive care of his family, St. Alexius Home Health Care and many other caring people.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish rosary and vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue from 8:30-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Jack Hoffman was born Jan. 13, 1927, the son of Gabriel and Lagardia (Ferderer) Hoffman. He was raised and educated in the New Salem and Youngtown areas. Jack married Marion Freidt on Oct. 23, 1951, at St. Pius Church, New Salem. They farmed 10 miles north of New Salem, then moved to Bismarck in 1963. Jack worked a short time at Sweetheart Bakery, Kirschman Manufacturing and N.W. Oil, while he was taking accounting courses at Capital Commercial College. He worked at the State Bank of Burleigh County for 10 years, and Capital City Real Estate for 10 years. He retired in 1988.
He was a member of the Eagles Club and a lifetime member of the Elks. Jack enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards, golfing and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marion; three daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Stan Mallette, Sioux Falls, S.D., Beckie and Bruce Zottnick, Bismarck, and Brenda and Lynn Klemetson, Davenport, Iowa; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Rodney and Jodi Hoffman, and Shannon Hoffman, all of Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Lora, Lesley and Steven Zottnick, Lindsey and Melissa Klemetson, and Scot and Jennifer Hoffman; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Pete and Mary Hoffman, Mandan, and Ray and Gertha Hoffman, Bismarck; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eugenia and George Doll, New Salem, and JoAnn and Ed Weber, Bismarck; many nieces and nephews, and many other friends with whom they golfed, traveled and visited.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Josephine Mosbrucker.
Ann Johanneson
Ann Johanneson, 91, St. Vincent's Care Center, died March 14, 2000, in the care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Marillac Manor Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. John P. O'Leary officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck. A Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Ann Prokosch was born Jan. 19, 1909, at New Ulm, Minn., the daughter of Peter and Marie (Portner) Prokosch. She was raised and attended schools in New Ulm. She and Helgi Johanneson were married on Nov. 27, 1930, at Gardar. They lived in Cavalier and Walhalla prior to moving to Bismarck in 1951, where they have since resided. Her husband died in 1994.
She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Carole and Harold Miller, Bismarck, and Jeanne Turner, Seattle; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jay and Tillie, Sacramento, Calif., and Kent, Bismarck; 16 grandchildren, Beth Dvorak, Bismarck, Brenda Cummings, New York City, Joel Cummings, Seattle, Alec Cummings, New York City, Karla Cummings, Seattle, Steven Johanneson, Baltimore, Md., Terry Johanneson, Sacramento, Cathy Gossett, Bismarck, Julie Weatherman, Denver, Paul Johanneson, Laura Johanneson and Michelle Johanneson, all of Sacramento, Bill Johanneson, Chatsworth, Calif., Joni Cieslak, Hazen, Susan Reeves, Annapolis, Md., and Jane Fussy, Charlotte, N.C.; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Helgi; five sisters; and three brothers.
Mike Kraft
NEW SALEM -- Mike Kraft, 70, 4685 Country Road 139, New Salem, died, March 14, 2000, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., MST Thursday at St. Pius Catholic Church, New Salem, with Rev. David Zimmer, officiating. Burial will be in St. Pius Catholic Cemetery, New Salem.
A rosary service begins at 7:00 tonight at the church. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. today at St. Pius Catholic Church, and will continue one hour before services at the church.
Mike was born November 23, 1929, at Selfridge, to John R. and Augusta (Schneider) Kraft. He was raised and educated in Selfridge. On August 23, 1948, he married Anna Marie Schreiner at Rapid City, South Dakota. Mike, along with his wife, own and operated the Sunset Inn at New Salem for over 26 years, where Mike was noted for his famous caramel rolls and breakfasts. Retiring in 1992, he continued to enjoy gardening, hunting and fishing. Most important though, were his wife, grandchildren, and family.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and James Grinstienner, Longmont, Colo., and Denise and Timothy Nilsen, New Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael D. and Terry, Williston, and Nicholas and Cheryl, and Brian Cory and Kathy Wilson, all of Mandan; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Rose Laintz, Selfridge, and Helen and Fred Lowe, Tacoma, Wash.; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Sylvester, Salt Lake City, Utah, Tom, Needles, Calif., Joe and Gean, Tacoma, Wash., and John and Gloria, Sheridan, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild. William Nickel
William Charles Herman Nickel, 91, died March 12, 2000, in Bozeman care center. He was born Dec. 19, 1908, in Judson, to William E. and Augusta (Hasse) Nickel. Bill grew up in Judson and following school, he farmed in the Judson area for 20 years. He married Elsie Gallwas in Otter Creek on June 17, 1934.
The couple moved to Bozeman in 1950, where they owned and operated the Gallatin Motel until their retirement in 1978.
He was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Bozeman, and Zion Lutheran Church, New Salem, during his years in Judson. Bill was very active and volunteered at the Bozeman Senior Center. He also loved to fix things.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elsie; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Edward, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Harold and Marilyn, Kirkland, Wash.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Jerry Lundwall, Bella Vista, Ariz., and Mavis and Jim Knudson, Westlake, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Art, Bismarck; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents; one brother; five sister; and a grandson preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Bozeman, with burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel.
