Caroline A. Frye
Caroline A. Frye, 74, 3934 Memorial Highway, Mandan, died Feb. 7, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Caroline was born on Sept. 4, 1925 at Mandan, to Charles and Mary (Heinz) Brucker. She attended ST. Joseph's School and graduated from Mandan High School. She married L. Ray Frye in Denver, Colo., on March 21, 1953. Caroline was very personable with a host of friends. She was a very good cook and enjoyed entertaining. She enjoyed needlework and collecting knick-knacks. Caroline spent most of her life in the public atmosphere, working with her husband at the Bismarck Municipal Country Club, then at Jerry's Supper Club, in Mandan, which they purchased and later at the Mandan Elks Club. She is survived by her husband, Ray; her son, Larry, and twin grandchildren, Jenna and Tyler Frye, all of Mandan; one brother and sister-in-law, George and Erna Brucker, Union, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Mildred Brucker, Mandan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter at birth and one daughter, Sunny Rae Frye in 1978; and five brothers, Mike, Albert, John, Tony and Jake. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

MCCLUSKY -- Gary Nigrin, 56, McClusky, died Feb. 5, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, McClusky. Burial will be in McClusky City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday, at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Gary was born on Jan. 25, 1944 in Bismarck, the son of John and Olivia (Helm) Nigrin. He attended rural school south of McClusky and then attended McClusky High School. He then began farming with his father 14 miles south of McClusky, where he continued to farm until his death. He married Myrna Vollan on Jan. 29, 1966 in Regan. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of McClusky. He served on the Schrunk Township Board of Burleigh County. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, and collecting hammers. The joy of his life was spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Myrna; his mother, Olivia, McClusky; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Anita Nigrin, Irving, Texas, Denise and Lowell Beattie, Lincoln, and Tammy and Kevin Ripplinger, Pierre, S.D.; six grandchildren, Tonya, Nichole, Cole, Matthew, Trevor and Zachary; one sister and brother-in-law, Ardith and Charles Froehlich, Carriere, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha Axt
Martha Axt, 91, Bismarck, died Feb. 5, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ray Kelsch officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Martha, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabetha Gessele, was born Jan. 13, 1909, near New Leipzig. She attended rural schools in Mercer County. She married Emil Axt on Nov. 5, 1928. They farmed in the Goodrich area and moved to Bismarck in 1982. She was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and served as a Sabbath school teacher and Dorcas leader. She was a member of Homemakers and served as a 4-H leader for seven years. She was a member of RSVP and active in the American German Singers. Martha was well-known for her talents of cooking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, and quilting. She is survived by four sons and five daughters-in-law, Melvin and Faith Axt, Hemet, Calif., Donald and Myrna Axt, Oakhurst, Calif., Dennis and Suzy Axt, Arcadia, Calif., Lyle and Leanne Axt, Bloomington, Minn., and Adeline Axt, Plattsmouth, Neb.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Les Kirkegaard, Ijamsville, Md., and Judith and Allan Bahnmiller, Lincoln; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brothers, Reinhold and Edwin; and her sister, Leah, Rachael, Anna Marie and Ruth. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil; two sons, Marvin and Elroy; four brothers; one sister; one granddaughter, Candace Axt; and one grandson, Daryl Axt. Victor K. Kopp
Victor K. Kopp, 74, 209 11th Ave. N.E., Mandan, died Feb. 8, 2000, at his residence after a short battle with cancer. Services will be held at noon Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Robert E. Feeney officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters and St. Joseph Circle rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Thursday. A parish vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Victor K. Kopp, the son of Peter and Agnes (Schwalick) Kopp, was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Raleigh. He was raised and educated in the Raleigh area. On June 1, 1949, he was united in marriage to Christine Kopp in Raleigh. After their marriage, they farmed in Freda until 1953, when they moved to Mandan. Victor was employed with Quality Lumber, Kirkmeier Construction and Lunn Construction. He was administrator of St. Vincent DePaul until his retirement in 1987. Victor worked for Lutheran Social Services as a senior companion. He was a member of AARP, RSVP, Mandan Eagles and Moose, and the Mandan Golden Age Club. Victor was known in the area for his unique train. He would give children rides and enjoyed passing out candy while driving the train. He enjoyed the simple things in life and had a great sense of humor, he could always be counted on for a joke. Victor is survived by his wife of 50 years, Christine; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Michael and Nancy, Columbia City, Ind., Victor and Peggy, Bismarck, David, Topeka, Kan., Calvin and Fay, Bismarck, and Robert and Jackie, Ely, Nev.; three daughters, Louise Kopp and Karen Rahrich, both of Bismarck, and Mariann Olheiser, Mandan; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight sisters and six brothers-in-law, Frances and John Nedved, Rapid City, S.D., Olivia and Vincent Gross, Bismarck, Edvina and Matt Hersch, Boxelder, S.D., Hildegard and Bill Berger, Rapid City, Irene and Baldwin Ternes, Shields, Elsie Milton, Columbia Falls, Mont., Rose and Marvin Klym, Racine, Wis., and Anna Larson, Spokane, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Lenora Kopp, Fargo; and one brother-in-law, Henry Wolfe, Edgemont, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Leonard and Teddy; and one sister, Florence Wolfe.
Henry Kranzler
ASHLEY -- Henry Kranzler, 87, died Feb. 5, 2000, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ashley Baptist Church, with burial in Ashley cemetery. Visitation will be from noon-7 p.m. Thursday at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley. Henry was born March 13, 1912, the son of Christoph and Karolina (Hegel) Kranzler. He received his grade school education at a country school near the Kranzler family homestead. Henry then attended Ashley High School and graduated in 1934. During this time he met his lifelong sweetheart, Florence Weber, whom he married on Oct. 3, 1937. Henry was a star football halfback and track sprinter in high school and college. At one time he held the state high school 100 yard dash record. His love of sports continued throughout his life and he loyally followed the Minnesota Twins and Vikings on the radio, television and in the newspaper. After high school, Henry attended the Ellendale Normal Teachers College. He taught country school until 1937, when he and his bride, Florence, moved to the Kranzler homestead nine miles south of Lehr. During the 33 years the couple lived on the farm, Henry built up a herd of registered Angus cattle, which gained a regional reputation. He was known as one of the regions outstanding purebred Angus breeders and exhibited many show cattle at fairs and stock shows such as the Valley City Winter Show. Henry was always quite active in community affairs. He served on numerous boards and committees and was on the KEM Electric board of directors when electric power came to rural McIntosh County. Henry was also a 4-H leader for many years. Music, especially quartet vocals, was one of Henry's lifelong passions. Over the years he sang in a number of quartets, beginning with a Kranzler brother quartet when he was still a young man. In 1970, Henry was elected McIntosh county judge and he and Florence moved to Ashley. He held office for 12 years and retired in 1982. During his retirement years Henry loved to garden and spent many hours building Christmas light displays. A drive by the Kranzler home always revealed the great pride he and Florence took in their yard. Henry was a member of Ashley Baptist Church, and before that, the Lehr Baptist Church. He was active in numerous church activities and well-known for his strong faith. Henry is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Kelley, Stillwater, Okla., and Wayne and Jean, Bismarck; two grandchildren, Brooke and Matthew Kranzler, Bismarck; and one brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Ruth Kranzler, Green Valley, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Florence; four brothers, Isadore, Jacob, John and Theodore; and four sisters, Hertha Bertsch, Emelia Ehman, Marie Werth and Ottilia (Tillie) Jury. The family prefers memorials to Ashley Medical Center Nursing Home.
Alma Kuch
CENTER -- Alma Kuch, 98, Center, died Feb. 6, 2000, in the New Salem nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Center, with the Rev. Jon Erickson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. MST today at Elm Crest Nursing Home, New Salem, and will continue after 4 p.m. today and Thursday until service time at the church. Alma was born Sept. 27, 1901, in Oliver County, the daughter of Frank and Amelia (Christian) Schmeling. She married Fred Kuch on Dec. 9, 1923, in Center. They farmed near Churchtown for many years and moved to Center in 1972. She was the organist for 51 years at the church in Churchtown and was also active in the Ladies Aid, Homemakers and Golden Age Club in Center. She loved to bake and was well known for her delicious sugar cookies and donuts. Alma is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Henke and her husband, Nelvin, Hannover, and Harriet Meyhoff, Center; her son, Frederick of Center; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred, who died May 20, 1985; her son-in-law, Ervin Meyhoff; one grandson, Michael Meyhoff; and eight brothers and sisters.
