Howard Anseth
WILLISTON -- Howard L. Anseth, 56, Williston, died April 23, 2001, in a Minot hospital from complications with a brain aneurysm. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at First Lutheran Church, Williston. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; one son, Jay, California; three daughters, Siri Njos, Louisville, Ky., Dr. Kristi Anseth, Boulder, Colo., and Tricia Steffan, Grand Forks; three grandchildren; and one brother, LeRoy, Williston. Joyce Blotter
TURTLE LAKE -- Joyce Blotter, 62, Turtle Lake, died April 24, 2001, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with the Rev. Wilfred Hanson officiating. Sherry Fueller will serve as organist, with vocals provided by Joan Anderson, Sue Schlafmann and Kathy Seeger. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Troy Presser, Todd Ketterling, Kevin Hanson, Paul Walcker, Scott Sondrol and Jeff Walcker. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m.-8 p.m. today at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight. Joyce Peterson was born July 10, 1938, in Edinburgh, Scotland, the daughter of Hugh and Alison (Anderson) Peterson. She was raised and educated in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1958, she met U.S. Airman James "Jimmy" Blotter of Turtle Lake. They married each other on Jan. 9, 1960, in Kirknewton, Scotland. Joyce moved to the United States with her husband in 1961. The couple lived in Itasca, Ill., for two years and later moved to rural Turtle Lake, where they farmed. Joyce studied to become a United States citizen and became a very proud and patriotic American citizen. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the company of great friends, spending time outdoors and her clown collection. Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Turtle Lake. She is survived by her husband, Jim; five sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Patty, Turtle Lake, Keith and Tarri, Bismarck, Kent and Denise, Minot, Scott and Vickie, Velva, and Stuart and Kim, Steele; one daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Mike Wentz, Billings, Mont.; 13 grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Isabel Peterson, Edinburgh, and Hugh and Irene Peterson, Edinburgh; one sister and brother-in-law, Alison and Ricky Baird, Edinburgh; a special aunt, Kathy Anderson, Edinburgh; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

DICKINSON -- Lupi Bohrer, 53, Dickinson, died April 23, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with entombment in Dickinson Mausoleum. She is survived by her husband, Bill; seven children, Adrianna Marin Sanchez, Minneapolis, Javier Sanchez, Mexico, Margaret Bohrer, Dickinson, Jessie Bohrer, Dickinson, Toby Bohrer, Taylor, Jill Messmer, Phoenix, and Heidi Bohrer, Phoenix; sisters, Maria Eugenia, Mexico City, Rosa, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Consuelo, Puerto Vallarta, Carmen, Meridia, Mexico, Maria, St. Petersburg, Fla., Josefina, Minnesota, and Patricia, Puerto Vallarta; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Nellie Brakel
HURDSFIELD -- Nellie Brakel, 81, Hurdsfield, died April 23, 2001, in the Carrington nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hurdsfield Community Center, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hurdsfield. She is survived by three sons, Carrol, Grand Junction, Colo., John, Longmont, Colo., and Randy, Hurdsfield; four daughters, Ruth Krause, Brookings, S.D., Henrietta Shuminski, Orlando, Fla., Hazel Stromberg, Granite Shoals, Texas, and Pam Hanson, Bismarck; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Engleman and Richard Engleman, both of Mason City, Iowa, and Jack Engleman, Morris, Ill.; and three sisters, Mary Rathemal, Nora Springs, Iowa, Donna Knudson, Molene, Ill., and Susan Movick, Sioux City, Iowa. Margaret Funden
Margaret Funden, 100, Mandan, died April 24, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. today. A parish rosary will be said at 7 tonight at the funeral home. Margaret was born Oct. 7, 1900, in Mandan, the daughter and youngest of nine children born to Thomas and Ellen (Kane) Kennelly. She attended school in Mandan, and St. John's Academy in Jamestown. She married H.C. "Claude) Funden on Sept. 17, 1921, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan. Claude was a partner of the Mandan Beverage Co. After Claude retired, they lived in Minnesota and Florida until they returned to Mandan in 1982. He died on October 3 of that year. Margaret was a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop, Aid Inc., and the Custer District Health Unit of Morton County. In earlier years, Margaret loved to golf and bowl, and was a member of Catholic Daughters and American Legion Auxiliary. She had been a resident of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center since 1994. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Royann Kennelly, Bismarck, Estelle Shirley, Chandler, Ariz., Helene Peterson, Scottsdale, Ariz., Margaret Murphy and her husband, Charles, Rockville, Md., Beverly Kennelly, Mandan, and Justine Fleck, Bismarck. She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers and sisters; her husband; and three nephews, Breen Kennelly, Ernest Fleck and Bill Kennelly.

WILLISTON -- Ronald Glaab, 69, Williston, died April 24, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Faith United Methodist Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston. He is survived by one brother, Charles, Toledo, Ohio. Bertha Hoffman
KULM -- Bertha Hoffman, 91, Kulm, died April 23, 2001, in the Wishek hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Berlin Baptist Church, Fredonia, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, ArDella Bellefeuille, Moorhead, Minn., and Janice Colston, Minneapolis; one son, Archie, Fredonia; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Myrtle Ivesdal
EDMORE -- Myrtle Ivesdal, 92, Edmore, died April 23, 2001, in the Park River hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Living Word Free Lutheran Church, Edmore, with burial in Prospect Cemetery, rural Edmore. She is survived by her husband, Tollef; two sons, Larry, Edmore, and Roger, Fargo; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. (Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake)

KENSAL -- June P. Fredrickson Karn, 86, Jamestown, died April 22, 2001, in the Jamestown care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Kensal, with burial in Kensal Cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Larry Fredrickson, Anderson, Calif., Gerald Fredrickson, Jamestown, and Clarence Fredrickson, Newbury Park, Calif.; one daughter, Dorothy Messmer, Hoquiam, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irma Fredrickson, Jamestown; four step-children, Darrell Karn, Phoenix, Ariz., Caroline Landert, Mapleton, LeAnn Stanley, Mapleton, and Herman Karn, El Monet, Calif.; and several step-grandchildren. KILLDEER -- Margaret Klaus, 83, Killdeer, died April 23, 2001, in the Killdeer care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT today at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with burial in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Killdeer. She is survived by one daughter, Corrine Olson, Killdeer; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Art Leithold, Elgin; and three sisters, Emma Ley, Jamestown, Helen Huber, Bismarck, and Deloris Siebert, Sheridan, Wyo. DICKINSON -- Betty Madler, 84, Dickinson, died April 23, 2001, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New England, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by three children, Robert, Glendale, Ariz., David, New England, and Alan, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three daughters, Arlene Gartner, Maple Valley, Wash., Marilyn Wert, New England, Dianne Hannigan, Kalispell, Mont.; one brother, Albert Stagl, Dickinson; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. Shannon K. Moser, 56, Bismarck, died April 25, 2001, in her home. Arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Freda Unruh
Freda Unruh, 92, Bismarck, died April 25, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Chapel, with the Revs. Robert Lynne and Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Freda Unruh was born Oct. 4, 1908, the daughter of August and Lydia (Sasse) Wiege at Golden Valley. She was raised and educated at Golden Valley. After graduating from the Eureka Lutheran Business College, Freda worked as a legal secretary. Freda was united in marriage to the Rev. George Unruh of Wishek on June 5, 1931, at Golden Valley. Together they served in parishes at rural Litchville, Arthur and Fargo. They retired in Bismarck in 1961. She enjoyed travel throughout the United States and Europe, cooking, entertaining and many church activities, especially her circle and quilting group. She deeply loved and was very proud of her family. She will be greatly missed by those who survive her, including one daughter and son-in-law, Arly and Dr. Richard Paulson, Mankato, Minn.; four grandchildren, Dr. Charles Paulson and his wife, the Rev. Joy Smith, Fargo, Dr. Susan Paulson and her husband, Mark Higgins, Oxford, Ohio, Ann Paulson and her husband, James Horazdovsky, Seattle, and George Paulson, Portland, Ore.; five great-grandchildren, Katie and Hunter Paulson-Smith, Nick and Carlos Higgins, and Max Paulson; her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Eugene and Mary Wiege, Greeley, Colo.; and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. George Unruh. The family prefers memorials to St. Alexius Hospice and the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.

DICKINSON -- Margaret Wolbaum, 70, Dickinson, died April 22, 2001, in her home. She is survived by her husband, Ben, Dickinson; two daughters, Sharon Kary, Phoenix, and Michelle Perdew, Anchorage, Alaska; four sons, Carter, Everett, Wash., Layton, New Salem, Scott, Dickinson, and Curt, Rugby; 13 grandchildren; three sisters, Tilly Rettig and Patty Miller, both of Dickinson, and Lori Raab, Phoenix; and three brothers, John Miller, Loveland, Colo., and Adam Miller and Valentine Miller, both of Dickinson. Pius Goetzfridt
NEW SALEM -- Pius A. Goetzfridt, 79, New Salem, entered into eternal life April 24, 2001, in a New Salem care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT today at St. Pius Catholic Church, New Salem, with the Rev. David Zimmer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military graveside services by the John Repsdorf American Legion Post No. 91. Pius was born June 26, 1921, in Taylor, the son of Adam and Eleonora (Froelich) Goetzfridt. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and married Monica Doll on Oct. 15, 1946. They lived in Dickinson and later, Wahpeton, where he attended Wahpeton State School of Science. They moved to New Salem, where Pius, a master electrician, owned New Salem Electric. In retirement, he was the Watkins representative. He is survived by his wife, Monica; eight daughters and seven sons-in-law, Gloria and Dennis Kunkel, New Salem, Terry and Andrew Leingang, Bismarck, Nancy Goetzfridt, New Salem, Diane and Bruce Huber, Hazen, Sheila and Dwight Huber, New Salem, Marie and Curtis Wetzel, Glen Ullin, Bernice and Kent Kremer, Wahpeton, and Angela and Allen Unruh, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Rhonda, Bismarck; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four grandchildren; three brothers; his twin, John J., Ralph and Tony; and his sister, Emma Boespflug. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

H. Merlin Griffin
H. Merlin Griffin, 89, Bismarck, died April 26, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mandan Rural United Methodist Church, southwest of Mandan. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Merlin was born Sept. 18, 1911, in Mandan, the son of Oscar and Zella (Shedd) Griffin. He was raised and educated southwest of Mandan and graduated from Mandan High School. After high school, Merlin began farming on the family farm and he married Nona Curfman. They raised their family on the farm and continued to farm up until his retirement when he moved to Mandan. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Jackie Griffin, Bismarck; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ruth and Art Alms, Jane Griffin and Marge and Ben Herr, all of Lincoln, Neb.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Grace Griffin, Mandan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nona; two sisters, Dorothy and Mary; and two brothers, Howard and Bob.

LeRoy Grimmer, 52, Clinton, Tenn., formerly of Williston, died April 22, 2001, at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Everson Memorial Chapel, Williston. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. He is survived by two sons, John and Dennis, both of Clinton, Tenn.; one granddaughter; his mother, Pelma, Williston; two sisters, Gloria Nelson, Nevada, and Sharon Rowe, Montana; and three brothers, Virgil, Gordon and Harold, all of Williston.

DICKINSON -- Emma Halter, 91, Dickinson, died April 26, 2001, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in Golgotha Lutheran Cemetery, Golden Valley. She is survived by four daughters, Stella Spane, Wichita, Kan., Phyllis Schlaht, Ellin Wood, Kan., Shirley Huber, Dickinson, and Verlin Kolmer, Seattle, Wash.; five sons, Gordon, Great Bend, Kan., Matt, Seattle, Wash., Ralph and Allan, both of Dickinson, and Vic, Las Vegas, Nev.; and 15 grandchildren.
