Gerald Olson
WILLISTON -- Gerald Olson, 70, Williston, died April 16, 2001, in a Williston medical center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Everson Memorial Chapel, Williston. Burial will be in Wheelock Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; one stepson, Terry Severtson; four brothers, Leonard, Arnold, Einar and Orris, all of Williston; and three sisters, Phoebe Johnson, Center, Gladys Lee, Kauila Kona, Hawaii, and Marie Saddoris, McMinville, Ore.

Dorothy Rygh, 87, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Turtle Lake, died April 15, 2001, in a Mesa care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. Burial will be in the city cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth, Mesa, and Wallace, Park River; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marguerite Kronberger, San Diego, Calif. Blanche Schlomer, 80, Mobridge, S.D., died April 16, 2001. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Mobridge. Burial will be in Glenham Cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Gary, Lakewood, Colo., and Dana and Orin, both of Mandan; two daughters, Judy Ann Curran, Mobridge, and Bonie, Green Bay, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. JAMESTOWN -- Bradley R. Weeks, 65, Jamestown, died April 16, 2001, in a Jamestown hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at All Faith's Chapel, N.D. State Hospital, Jamestown. CHASELEY -- Herbert Wonnenberg, 85, Chaseley, died April 16, 2001, in a Harvey medical center of natural causes. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bowdon Community Church of God, Bowdon. Burial will be in Goodrich Cemetery, Goodrich. He is survived by his wife, Marie; one daughter, Janice Martin, Chaseley; one grandson; one brother, William, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and three sisters, Louise Wendschlag, Bridgeport, Conn., and Ruth Baumbach and Marian Schimke, both of Lodi, Calif. NEW ROCKFORD -- Myrtle Anderson, 82, New Rockford, died April 24, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Emil Berg
Emil Berg, 91, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Benedict, died April 19, 2001, in a Mesa health care facility. Services will be held at 11 a.m. PDT Friday at Cherokee Memorial Park Chapel, Lodi, Calif. Burial will be in Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi. Emil was born Aug. 31, 1909, on a farm south of Minot to Friedrich Berg and Katherine Eiseman Berg. He was educated in rural schools and grew up on farms in the Washburn and Underwood area. Emil married Ella Faul June 17, 1932, at the Mennonite Brethren Church south of Sawyer. They were married for almost 69 years. The couple farmed for many years near Benedict. Beginning in the 1950s, they would spend winters among friends and relatives in Lodi, Calif. In 1998 they moved to Mesa, Ariz. Each year until recently, they would return to North Dakota to farm their land. Emil especially enjoyed being on the farm at harvest time. He was much loved by his immediate family and numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife, Ella; his daughters, Edna Boardman, Minot, and Vivian Berg (Dr. Richard Wirtz), Mandan; four grandchildren, Chase Boardman (Cathy), Shady Side, Md., Mary Boardman, Elk Grove, Calif., Dr. Christine Braunberger (Martin Walls), Syracuse, N.Y., and Andrew Braunberger, Minneapolis, Minn.; one great-granddaughter, Noeline Boardman; and one sister, Ruth Faul, Harvey. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith LaVere; his parents; and four brothers, Fred, Carl, August and Albert.

TURTLE LAKE -- Janet Blotter, 62, Turtle Lake, died April 24, 2001, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. Further arrangements are pending with Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake.

Margaret Funden
Margaret Funden, 100, Mandan, died April 24, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Dale Granrud
Dale Jerome Granrud, 75, Bismarck, died April 22, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital after a short-term illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military rites by VFW Post No. 1326. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a vigil. Dale was born March 14, 1926, on the family farm, Burke County, to T. Gerhard and Gertie (Dewing) Granrud. He was raised on the farm outside of Columbus and attended grade school at Short Creek School, graduating from Columbus High School in 1944. Dale served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 in Japan with the 24th Division Occupational Forces. He served in the Army Reserve for 39 years, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Spec. 4. Dale married Marie Angela Elsbernd June 28, 1948, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Crosby. They happily raised 10 children. As a family they enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Dale and Marie moved to Bismarck where he was employed by the Bismarck Police Department from 1948 to 1951. He then worked at the State Penitentiary from 1951 to 1954. He worked for the N.D. State Crime Bureau from 1954 to 1966. He was elected Burleigh County Sheriff in 1966 and served until 1974. During his tenure he served a term as chairman of the N.D. National Sheriffs Association. He then worked for the Farmers Union Insurance Company before going back to work for the N.D. State Penitentiary from 1978 to 1988. During this time he also worked part-time as a U.S. Marshall. Dale's other interests included carpentry, gardening, raising animals, especially dogs and he was a fierce pinochle player. Because of his experience serving in the Armed Forces and as a peace officer, Dale had a strong sense of duty and patriotism. His personal values included honesty and loyalty to family and friends. He always wanted the best and expected the best from those he worked with and from his family. Some people might argue his greatest attribute was his sense of humor. His specialty was Ole and Lena jokes because of his Norwegian heritage. Dale was a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Elks, AmVets and the Knights of Columbus. He was a past Grand Knight for Council 9589 and a Fourth Degree member of the J.P. Wagner Assembly. He is survived by his wife, Marie; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Daryl, Mandan, Doug and Della Rae, Bismarck, and Dean and Dale Jr., both of Nashville, Tenn.; six daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna, Minot, Diane and Steve Albrightson, Norwalk, Calif., Debra and Delarie, both of Omaha, Neb., Denise, Bismarck, and Doria and Roland Hicks, Laredo, Texas; nine grandchildren, Dawn, Desiray, Darla, Damien, Sara, Garrett, Mariah, Westley and Elizabeth; seven great-grandchildren, Mishel, Dustee, Luckee, Heaven, Nathaniel, Brandon and Destiny; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Gerdius and Myron Watterud, Larson, and Geraldine Moum and Delores Aaberg, both of Crosby; one brother, Delano, Hitchcock, Sask.; many close friends and relatives; and his puppy, Teddy. He was preceded in death by his parents;, three brothers-in-law, Marvin Moum, Roger Elsbernd and Lester Aaberg; one sister-in-law, Shirley Granrud; two nieces, Julie and Sonja; and two nephews, Joel and Dwight. The family prefers memorials to leukemia research.

Johanna Hartman
VALLEY CITY -- Johanna Hartman, 77, Valley City, formerly of Jamestown, died April 23, 2001, in a Valley City care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sheyenne Care Center Chapel, Valley City. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Wimbledon. She is survived by one nephew, John Hartman, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Otto Heth
FARGO -- Otto G. Heth, 74, Fargo, died April 21, 2001, in a Fargo care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Fargo. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Pelican Lake Cemetery, Ashby, Minn. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Otto Heth was born Feb. 20, 1927, in Beulah. He grew up and attended school in Beulah. He served in the military police. He then worked in the oil business in Beulah. Otto was united in marriage with Dianne Sheets March 30, 1956, in Maddock. In 1952 Otto started work with the Bureau of Reclamation as a surveyor. He lived in Bismarck, Dillon, Mont., and then Weslaco, Texas, until 1964. He then worked for N.P. Railroad. He moved to Jamestown and worked for North Central Consultants as a surveyor from 1967 to 1971. He then moved to Fargo and worked for Mobility, Inc. Otto was united in marriage with Arlys Jean Winslow March 15, 1974, in Fargo. He then worked for Fargo Public Schools as a custodian until his retirement. After retiring he worked for Northport Hornbachers. Arlys died Sept. 1, 1996. Otto and his wife Arlys enjoyed going to flea markets. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church, VFW of Fargo and the Fargo Moose. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Magee (Colin), Jamestown, and Darcy Netzer (Dwight), Albert Lea, Minn.; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Arthur Heth (Olga) and William Heth (Rose), both of Beulah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlys; one grandchild; his parents; three sisters; and three brothers.

Bertha Hoffman
KULM -- Bertha Hoffman, 91, Kulm, died April 23, 2001, in the Wishek hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Berlin Baptist Church, rural Fredonia. Further arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.

Margaret Klaus

Leo McCloskey
Leo D. McCloskey, 75, Bismarck, passed from his life April 23, 2001, in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Denise Anderson officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Leo was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Bismarck, the son of William and Ada (Josephson) McCloskey. He attended school in McKenzie for three years and then attended school in Sterling, where he graduated from high school. Leo enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1946 and served in the Asiatic Pacific area on the destroyer U.S.S. Putnam (DD-757) during World War II. Leo married Irene Weidner Aug. 15, 1946, in Glendive, Mont. Leo was the general manager for Cenex in Wilton for 18 years, Ellendale for 12 years and served on the field staff in Montana for 10 years. Leo was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, American Legion, Amvets, and was a VFW Life Member. He is survived by his wife, Irene; three sons and two daughters-in-law, James McCloskey, Fairfax, Va., Patrick and Bonnie McCloskey, Fargo, and Kelly and Lori McCloskey, Grant, Neb.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Roy and Dorothy McCloskey, Buckley, Wash., and Tom and Dorothy (Dottie) McCloskey, Seattle, Wash.; and one sister, Ellen and Gus Lindo, Geneva, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.

Marion (Meisner) Renner, 78, Englewood, Colo., formerly of Glen Ullin, died April 14, 2001, in Englewood. Services were held at St. Louis Catholic Church, Denver, Colo. Burial was in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver. She is survived by her husband, Albert Renner; five children, Eydie, Chuck, Don, Mike and Jim; one brother, Ray; three sisters, Florence, Kathleen and Dodey; one brother-in-law, Tony Renner, Bismarck; and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Gustin, Mandan, and Rose Gustin, Bismarck.
