Emil Humann
Emil Humann, 81, Bismarck, formerly of Hazelton, died April 15, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Linton, with the Rev. Fred Henkelmann officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Emil was born June 14, 1919, on a farm west of Hazelton, the son of Heinrich and Margaretha (Schiermeister) Humann. Emil attended country school and did farm labor prior to joining the Civil Conservation Corps where he worked in the forest cutting trees near Virginia, Minn. He graduated from the State School of Science at Wahpeton as an auto mechanic in 1940. On June 14, 1942, Emil was inducted into the Army Air Force, where he spent most of his time in Cherignold, Italy, repairing B-24 Bombers with the 779th Bomber Squadron in the 464th Bombardment Group. He received a special European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater Service Medal, two overseas service bars, a distinguished service badge with one oak leaf cluster and a good conduct medal. He achieved the rank of Sergeant. Prior to being shipped overseas, Emil married Theo Poole Nov. 23, 1942, in Pueblo, Colo. Upon discharge from the Army Air Force on Sept. 24, 1945, Emil worked for the Dodge Garage and Johnson Brothers Trucking in Breckenridge, Minn. In 1947 the family moved to a farm east of Hazelton, where Emil farmed until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed traveling during his retirement years. Emil was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Linton and was very active in community service. He served on the Emmons County Welfare Board, the Emmons County Township Officers Association and the Emmons County Senior Citizens. He also served on the Hazelton Township Board for almost 30 years, 15 of which he was the chairman. He served in the Hazelton American Legion and was a member of the VFW in Bismarck. He belonged to the Hazelton Lions Club and the Eagles Club of Wishek. He served on the Hazelton Farmers Union Elevator Board and Hazelton Senior Citizens. Grateful to have shared his life are two sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Lila, Bismarck, and Philip and Carol, Hazelton; one daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Brian Neuhardt, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Janeen Cervinski, Robyn Johnsen, Kyle Humann, Kristin Kaldahl and Emily and Brent Neuhardt; three great-grandchildren, Philip and Claire Cervinski and Tessa Johnsen; two sisters, Bertha Jahner, Hazelton, and Emilia Wacker, The Dalles, Ore.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Willis and June Humann, Lancaster, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Art, Henry, John, Otto, Edwin and Al; and one sister, Rose Grentz.

Lydia Iszler
ELGIN -- Lydia Iszler, 95, Elgin, died April 15, 2001, in an Elgin care center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Wednesday at Hope Conservative Congregational Church, Elgin. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by one brother, Fred Pleines, Elmacero, Calif. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)

Esther Johnson
Esther E. Johnson, 92, Mandan, died April 15, 2001, at her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sterling Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Revs. Jim Cissell and David Baker officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Esther Lang was born Feb. 7, 1909, on the family homestead four miles north of Sterling, the daughter of Max and Lydia (Mueller) Lang. She was raised and attended school in Sterling where she was in the first high school graduating class in 1926. She then attended Jamestown College and graduated with a B.A. in mathematics in 1931. Esther went on to teach throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. Esther married Edgar Johnson Aug. 24, 1946, in Bismarck. Following their marriage, they lived in Fargo until March 1949 when they moved to Sterling and began farming her father's farm. They farmed south of Sterling until 1978. They continued living at the farm until 1991. Edgar passed away in 1992. Esther was a member of the Farm Bureau and worked as a Nodak Mutual agent. She was an active member of the Sterling Homemakers and the Sterling Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible Studies. She was involved with the World Gospel Mission Prayer Band and participated with them until her death. Esther was also a member of the Gideons Auxiliary. Esther was a cook who could make something out of nothing. She loved gardening, working the soil and the satisfaction of sharing her produce with friends and neighbors. She appreciated music, attending concert events and especially enjoyed her family sharing their musical talents with her. Esther, known for her independent spirit, said, "I have to be me, it's what I do best." And being Esther, that meant embracing life, people and sharing her gifts and talents with others, sacrificing if necessary. She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Bohrer and her husband Paul, Greeley, Colo.; her son, Dr. Terry Max Johnson and his wife Greta, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Christa Baxter, San Diego, Calif., First Lt. Aaron Bohrer, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Luke Johnson, Olathe, Kan., and Carmen Johnson, Bismarck; one sister, Margaret L. Watts; and one brother, Ted Lang, Sterling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar.

Lucille Law
DICKINSON -- Lucille S. Law, 81, Dickinson, died April 14, 2001, in a Dickinson care center. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. MDT today at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson. She is survived by two sons, Richard, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Robert, Clayton, Calif.; one daughter, Cathie Mann, Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; six brothers, Raymond, Willard, Bob, Wayne, Jerry and Gordon Schnell; and two sisters, Oral Shjeflo and Shirlene Winn. Patrick Lizotte
NEW TOWN -- Patrick Lizotte, 58, New Town, died April 13, 2001. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Four Bears Community Center, New Town. Burial will be in the family cemetery. He is survived by his wife, June; one daughter, Shelly Lizotte White Bear; two grandchildren; his mother, Bertha Lizotte, Hardin, Mont.; his adopted mother, Eloise Johnson; two brothers, Raymond, Reno, Nev., and Larry, Hardin, Mont.; and one sister, Helen Pawlowski, Hardin, Mont. Dorothy E. Rygh, 87, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Turtle Lake, died April 15, 2001, in Mesa. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. Further arrangements are pending with Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake.

Lawrence Schmidt
HETTINGER -- Lawrence J. Schmidt, 79, Hettinger, died April 15, 2001, in a Hettinger care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hettinger. Burial will be in the city cemetery. He is survived by four sisters, Vita Kok and Isabelle Howe, both of Hettinger, Rose Heidt, Spokane, Wash., and Helena Boxeth, Bowman. Zoe Schwede
Zoe Brianne Schwede, two days old, died April 13, 2001, in Rochester, Minn. Private family services will be held. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Zoe Brianne was born April 11, 2001, in Medcenter One, Bismarck, the daughter of Marc and Pam (Nygaard) Schwede of Bismarck. Zoe is Greek for "life." We are comforted to know that Zoe passed from this life to eternal life to meet Jesus our Lord. We also find comfort in knowing that Zoe is worshipping around the throne. Zoe brought us much joy during the two days that she was on this earth. She will be greatly missed by her parents, Marc and Pam; one sister and brother-in-law, Krista and Joseph Wilson, Bismarck; one brother, Jason, Bismarck; her grandmothers, Joan Nygaard and Pauline Schwede, both of Bismarck; and numerous aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Verlyn Nygaard and Arlie Schwede.

SPIRITWOOD -- Mary Ann Specht, 43, Spiritwood, died April 15, 2001, near Spiritwood as a result of an automobile accident. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown. She is survived by her husband, Les; her parents, Pat and Dolly Folk, Jamestown; and two sisters, Sue Hopland, Jamestown, and Marilyn Carlascio, Fargo. (Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown)
