W. Roger Hinger
W. Roger Hinger, 69, Jamestown, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Hinger was born April 30, 1931, at Woodworth, N.D., the son of William and Sarah (Thiesen) Hinger. As a young child, he lived with his family near Woodworth, attending his first year of school there. The family then moved to a farm north of Pettibone, N.D., where he attended school from the second grade through the eighth grade. He went to Harvey, N.D., where he attended high school at Sheyenne River Academy, graduating in 1949. He attended Union College, Lincoln, Neb., and Walla Walla (Wash.) College, graduating in 1960 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He married Jesse Hanson Aug. 17, 1952, at Jamestown. He went to Wilson, N.C., where he worked for Murphy Body Works. He moved to Milwaukee, Wis., in 1965, where he worked for Dings Magnetic until 1970, when he moved to Denver, Colo., where he was self-employed in construction and contracting. He moved to Pettibone in 1976 and continued working as a self-employed contractor. Throughout his adulthood he also made several trips to Honduras and Guatemala, where he did missionary work, including four years at a school and orphanage. He retired recently due to ill health.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, William (Lynne), Antioch, Tenn., James (Jan), Jamestown, Darrell (Amy), Grand Forks, N.D., and Randall (Elisa), LaVergne, Tenn.; his mother; two brothers, Larry, Montrose, Calif., and Myron, Medina, N.D.; a sister, Sharon Meier, Portland, Ore.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Daniel Rebsomen officiating. Arrangements by Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Jack Derheim
Jack Derheim, 81, Callisburg, Texas, died May 27, 2000, at a hospital in Gainesville, Texas.
Mr. Derheim was born Aug. 22, 1918, in McClusky, N.D., the son of John and Rose Derheim. He served his country in World War II as a combat infantry-man, receiving an American Theater Campaign Medal, an EAME Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Victory Ribbon, a Service Stripe and an Overseas Bar. He left the service and later married Gloria June Bruce Nov. 20, 1954. He worked for and was retired from Valenite, Gainesville. He was a member of the Callisburg Church of Christ, Callisburg.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard (Rena), Gainesville; two daughters, Betty (Gary) Sandmann, Gainesville, and Rosie (Mark) Westbrook, Callisburg; a brother, Walter, Sun City, Calif.; two sisters, Eva Dodds, Jamestown, and Betty Geier, Bismarck; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: Held May 31, Clement-Keel Funeral Home, Gainesville.
Burial: Callisburg Cemetery, Callisburg.
Erma Yule
Erma "Virginia" Yule, 80, Enumclaw, Wash., formerly Woodworth, N.D., died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Evergreen Enumclaw Health Care and Rehab, Enumclaw.
Erma Virginia Bredeson was born April 22, 1920, at Maddock, N.D., the daughter of William Morris and Emma (Hagen) Bredeson. In 1929 the family moved to Wellsburg, N.D., where she grew up and attended school. She worked at a canning plant during World War II. She married Norman Allen Yule Nov. 2, 1944, at Moorhead, Minn. They farmed for 22 years near Woodworth. In 1966 they moved to Enumclaw. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Woodworth. She enjoyed traveling to North Dakota to visit family, crocheting, embroidery, baking and cooking.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Sarles M. (Jane), Enumclaw; two daughters, Deaon (Marlin) Schlager, Minot, N.D., and Gayle (Robert) Boyer, Enumclaw; two sisters, Evelyn (Elmer) Harr, Monetesano, Wash., and Irene (Lester) Thompson, Jamestown; a brother, Kenneth (Esther) Bredeson, Jamestown; a brother-in-law, William Clark, Woodworth; a special friend, Inga Normandin, Maddock, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elroy and Floyd; and a sister, Loretta Clark.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, June 9, American Lutheran Church, Woodworth, with the Rev. Norman Anderson officiating. Arrangements by Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Gem Cemetery, Woodworth.

Duane Zink
Duane "Duke" Lee Zink, 68, Santa Rosa, Calif., formerly Pingree, N.D., died May 29, 2000, at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Santa Rosa.
Mr. Zink was born March 21, 1932, at Carrington, N.D., the son of Sherman and Benita (Gremm) Zink. He grew up at Pingree, graduating from Pingree High School. He attended the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, and graduated from University of Colorado at Boulder. He married Ann Robertson formerly of Jamestown. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and United Airlines as a pilot. He enjoyed fishing, skiing and traveling.
He is survived by his mother, Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Dianne Zink, Kona, Hawaii, and Karin (Lou) Gilpe, St. Helena, Calif.; a sister, Jane Trumble, Mesa; and three granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial Services: Held Friday, June 2, in Santa Rosa. A memorial service will be held at Pingree at a later date.
Burial: At Pingree at a later date.

Judith Kirschenmann
Judith Ann "Judy" Kirschenmann, 56, Libby, Mont., died May 30, 2000, at St. John's Lutheran Hospital, Libby, after an extended illness.
Judith Schell was born March 29, 1944, at Hardin, Mont., the daughter of Albert and Frieda (Seader) Schell. She grew up and was educated at Hardin, graduating from high school in 1962. She married Eugene Kirschenmann Sept. 5, 1964. She worked briefly at the radio station and Littlehorn State Bank, Hardin. In 1966 they moved to Libby. She was employed at First National Bank from 1970-72; was vice president and loan officer at United National Bank from 1973-87; and was employed at Timber Tech Inc. from 1987-95. She was active in community affairs, serving an unexpired term on the Libby City Council and elected to a second term. She assisted in the formation of Kootenai Volunteer Hospice and served on its board. She was involved in the organization of the cross country ski program. "Judith Lane" on the cross country course is named in her honor. She was active in the work of the Libby Area Chamber of Commerce and served on the Economic Development Council. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving as church treasurer and was active in a variety of areas within the church.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Scott (Hope), Libby, and Jeff, Missoula, Mont.; two sisters, Alberta "Birdie" (Gary) Noyes, Billings, Mont., and Debbie Schell, Libby.; her father- and mother-in-law, Emil and Frieda Kirschenmann, Jamestown; and four grandchildren.
Services: Held May 3, St. John Lutheran Church, Libby.

Betty Kusler
Betty L. Kusler, 63, Ellendale, N.D., died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Manor Care Health Services, Aberdeen, S.D., after a brief illness.
Betty Lynn Aydelott was born Jan. 27, 1937, at Winnfield, La., the daughter of Edmond and Lucille (Broaddrick) Aydelott. She grew up and was educated in Booneville, Ark. In 1957 she married Don Lews and moved to Davenport, Iowa. In 1960 they returned to Booneville. In 1965 she married Claud Hibbs. She worked briefly in a sewing factory making women's lingerie. In 1991 she returned to Davenport, where she lived with her daughter, Vicki, and helped take care of her granddaughter. In 1993 she met Gordon Kusler and in 1994 they began working together as GB Decorating for Tharaldson Enterprises, Fargo, doing renovation in the Tharaldson motel chain. The renovation jobs took them to many parts of the United States. She married Gordon Kusler June 12, 1999, in Ellendale. She enjoyed playing cards and dancing.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Ron Lewis (Shirley Millikin, special friend), Greenwood, Ark.; a daughter, Vicki Miller (Dr. Dan Lommell, fiance), Davenport; three stepsons, Corey (Cindy) Kusler, Missoula, Mont., Kevin Kusler, Carbondale, Ill., and Christopher Kusler, Aberdeen; a stepdaughter, Claudeana (Harold) Sears, Booneville; a brother, Bobby (Judy), Booneville; a sister-in-law, Lucy Aydelott, Long Beach, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Diane (Don) Larson, Fairbault, Minn., and Marlys Maasjo, Jamestown; three grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Hazel Aydelott; and a brother, James "Buddy."
Services: 10:30 a.m. June 7, Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale, with the Rev. Mary Ann Sheldon officiating. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale.

Paul Ovind
Paul Ovind, 45, Jamestown, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo.
Mr. Ovind was born July 8, 1954, at Grand Forks, N.D., the son of Herbert and Myra (Gross) Ovind. The family lived in Emerado, N.D. They moved to Jamestown in 1966 following the death of his father. He attended the Anne Carlsen School, Jamestown, graduating in 1972. He then attended Brown Institute, Minneapolis, Minn., and held various jobs. In 1975 he returned to Jamestown, where he worked for the North Dakota State Hospital and then Lucas Aerospace, presently known as TRW, Jamestown. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He enjoyed music and sports.
He is survived by his mother, Jamestown; and two brothers, Ron (Betty), Parker, Colo., and Richard (Susan), Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Lucille Hinger
Lucille Hinger, 88, Jamestown, formerly Olympia, Wash., died of cancer May 14, 2000, in Auburn, Calif.
Lucille Dunn was born Feb. 20, 1912, in Jamestown, the daughter of William and Emma Dunn. She married Ernest Hinger. She lived in Olympia for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker, an active volunteer for Olympia Senior Center and a member of Olympia Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She is survived by a son, Ronald, Loma Linda, Calif.; a daughter, Marilyn Herron, Auburn; three brothers, Fred, Falls Church, Va., and Bert and Jerry, both Jamestown; a sister, Betty Nordling, Reno, Nev.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Verna McKenzie and Irene Dunn.
Graveside Services: Held May 22, Odd Fellows Memorial Park, Tumwater, Wash.
Burial: Odd Fellows Memorial Park, Tumwater.
