Gotthilf B. Blatter
ELLENDALE -- Gotthilf B. Blatter, 91, Ellendale, died Dec. 23, 2000, in an Aberdeen, S.D., hospital. Services have been rescheduled for 11 a.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, Ellendale. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. (Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale)

Gil Bourgois
Gil Bourgois, 78, 320 S. Second St., Bismarck, died Dec. 27, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Bismarck, with the Rev. Keith Odney officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Masonic Service begins at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church. Gil was born April 10, 1922 at San Antonio, Texas, to Emil and Ida (Brehmer) Bourgois. He was raised and educated in San Antonio. During the Depression he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served in the Texas National Guard from 1939 to 1940 and the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1941. He worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Burbank, Calif., and was trained to work on aircraft instruments. In 1945 he moved to Bismarck and in 1946 he started Bourgois Construction Company and built homes until 1970. He then began a demolition business. Gil was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Eagles, Sertoma, Elks, American Legion, 40 & 8 and Order of the Sons of Herman. His greatest love was working, but he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his stepsisters, Aline and Lynell; an uncle, Irvin Bourgois, California; several cousins, Eleanor White, Stanley Brehmer and Leta Mae Townsend, all of San Antonio, Sally Pratt, East Lansing, Mich., Jenny Dunnigan, Walhalla, Roger Bourgois and Kenny Bourgois, both of Baldwin, Leroy Brehmer, Kerrville, Texas, Oris Brehmer, Houston, Arlene Eihler, Fredericksburg, Texas, and Neil Bourgois, Tucson, Ariz.; and special friend, Margaret Braun, Bismarck. Gil was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Ima Montgomery Bourgois; and one brother, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Dakota Cancer Society.

Robert Elstad
BOWBELLS -- Robert Elstad, 78, Bowbells, died Dec. 27, 2000, in the Kenmare hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bowbells. Burial will be in Bowbells Community Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, David, Motley, Minn., and Bruce, Kimball, Minn.; two daughters, Roberta Drew, Fargo, and LuAnn Fay, Center; one granddaughter; one brother, Burt, Fargo; and one sister, Arlene Ayers, Sheridan, Wyo. Magdalena Frieboes
Magdalena "Lena" Frieboes, 96, formerly of Mott, died Oct. 25, 2000, in Farmersville, Calif. Burial was in Rest Lawn Memorial Garden Mausoleum, Dallas, Ore. She is survived by one son, Donald, Farmersville; several grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Irene Frieboes, Bismarck.

Kami K. Gage
Kami K. Gage, 22, Mandan, formerly of Devils Lake, died Dec. 25, 2000, in a Grand Forks hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Burial will be in Devils Lake Cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Paityn Gage; her father, Barry Gage, Devils Lake; her mother, Heather Gage, Bismarck; two brothers, Chad and Joey Gage, both of Devils Lake; and her grandparents, Gene and Judy Gage, Devils Lake, and Wayne Trottier, St. Michael. Ella Igard
DICKINSON -- Ella Igard, 93, Dickinson, died Dec. 26, 2000, in a Dickinson care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST today at Immanuel Baptist Church, Dickinson. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Frank Levey
BENEDICT -- Frank Levey, 87, rural Benedict, died Dec. 27, 2000, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Turtle Lake Baptist Church. Further arrangements are pending with Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake.

Fred Mautz
UNDERWOOD -- Fred Mautz, 85, Underwood, died Dec. 28, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Underwood. Further arrangements are pending with Goetz Funeral Home, Underwood.

Victoria Praus
DICKINSON -- Victoria Praus, 78, Dickinson, died Dec. 27, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Barbara Senn
Barbara Senn, 76, 1204 First St. N.E., Mandan, died Dec. 27, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in the Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. with a Parish Rosary and Vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation continues on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home, where a St. Anthony Verein Rosary will be said at 12:30 p.m. Barbara Storick Bernhardt Senn was born March 16, 1924, in Timmer, N.D., the daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Mildenberger) Storick. Barbara was raised and educated in Mandan graduating from Mandan Senior High School. She married Joseph Bernhardt on June 20, 1944. Joseph died on Oct. 18, 1961. She worked for Morton County as the Deputy Auditor in the Auditor's Office from 1962 until her retirement in 1986. She married William Senn on May 4, 1968, and he died Dec. 12, 1996. Barbara was a member of the Eagles. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Bernhardt, Dickinson; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Zimmerman, Bismarck, Karen Bernhardt-Tarlow and James Tarlow, Boston, Mass., and Pat and Kirby Oswald, Eureka, S.D.; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lynn Senn, Rapid City, S.D.; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Paula and Terry Larsen, Rapid City; six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Adam Storick, Richard Storick, and William and Jean Storick, all of Mandan; and one sister, Frances Paul, Mandan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Joseph Bernhardt and William Senn; one son, Edward Bernhardt, who died on June 13, 1997; and two sisters, Katherine Erhardt and Eva Barth. Memorials can be made to the Cancer Society.

Jefferson B. Smith
NEW TOWN -- Jefferson B. Smith Jr., 68, New Town, died Dec. 27, 2000, in the Parshall nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Four Bears Community Center, rural New Town. Burial will be in Congregational Memorial Churchyard Cemetery, south of Parshall. He is survived by his wife, Miriam; three sons, Marc, Keath and Jefferson III, all of New Town; two daughters, Kathleen De La Rosa, Grand Forks, and Gloria Smith, Goshen, Ohio; five sisters, Miriam Wilkinson, Havre, Mont., Rachel Bell, Almeda Baker and Dixie Howling Wolf, all of New Town, and Shirley White, White Shield; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Merle E. St. John
Merle E. St. John, 44, Chamberlain, S.D., died Dec. 26, 2000, at his home of natural causes. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Catholic Church of Assumption, Kenel, S.D. Further arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge, S.D.

Harley A. Summers
DEVILS LAKE -- Harley A. Summers, 81, a long-time businessman from Devils Lake, died Dec. 22, 2000, in Devils Lake, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Devils Lake, with the Rev. Bruce Dick officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Viking Cemetery, rural Maddock. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Harley Arnold Summers was born Feb. 16, 1919 in Knox, N.D., the son of Abraham and Florence (Shipley) Summers. Harley left school after the ninth grade to work with his father in the family blacksmith shop during the 1930s. At the age of 21, he took over the operation. Harley was united in marriage to Viola Tweten on June 22, 1941 in Devils Lake. They established their home in Maddock. Four children were born to this union, two sons, Carter and Larry, and two daughters, Karen and Debra. Harley built one of the early fire trucks for the city of Maddock. He was also one of several owners/operators of the Magic Cafe and Lanes in Maddock. Harley served on the Maddock City Council for eight years. In 1965, Harley, his wife and two sons formed Summers Manufacturing Co. Inc., a manufacturing company for farm machinery. In 1982, he expanded the business to Devils Lake Industrial Park. In 1983, Harley was awarded the SBA Small Businessman of the Year Award for his accomplishments. Harley was also a yearly sponsor of the Miss Rodeo North Dakota Competition, awarding the winner with a saddle. He also gave a Toolbox Scholarship each year to a student attending the Lake Region State College. Harley's interests included golfing, baseball, traveling and woodworking. He golfed in the Roger Maris Golf Tournament for several years. More recently in Harley's retirement years, he worked in his hobby shop where he made over 100 clocks for friends and family. Harley and Viola traveled to Bella Vista, Ark., to their winter home each year. Harley will be remembered for his sense of humor, his generosity, his wisdom, his optimistic attitude and his faith. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Viola; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carter and Renee Summers, and Larry and Linda Summers, all of Maddock; two daughters and one son-in-law, Karen Aardahl, Devils Lake, and Debra and Leslie Anderson, Maddock; 11 grandchildren, Angela (Summers) Seelye, Craig Aardahl, Lisa (Aardahl) Chaffee, Becky Summers, Melanie (Summers) Jones, Andrea Anderson, Jessica Aardahl, Nicole Summers, Gretchen Anderson, Thomas Anderson and Christopher Summers; seven great-grandchildren, Cody Seelye, Jenna Huffman, Karlee Chaffee, Caleb Aardahl, Kendra Jones, Naomi Chaffee and Erika Jones; and two sisters, Frances Murphy and Phyllis Brandon, both of Reedsport, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gaylord "Shorty" Summers; and three sisters, Edith Wurgler, Evelyn Tollefson and Gladys Hefner.

Janet Aaser
Janet Aaser, 41, Mandan, died Nov. 29, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Paul D. Fiske officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Tuesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Janet was born Dec. 24, 1958, in Fargo, the daughter of James and Matilda (Klein) Schaeffer. She was raised and educated in Fargo, graduating from Fargo South High School in 1977. She married Richard Aaser, Oct. 14, 1978, in Fargo. They lived in West Fargo for one year and moved to Mandan in 1979. She worked at Dakota Alph, Medcenter One Care Center and Dan's Super Valu. Janet loved working on her computer. Her boys were her main interest and she was "Mom" to all the kids in the neighborhood. She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband, Richard; two sons, Michael and David, both of Mandan; one sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jerry Mehlisch, Fargo; and her mother-in-law, Katherine Holweger, Moorhead, Minn. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents; and her brother-in-law, Roger Aaser.

Ronald K. Brown
WASHBURN -- Ronald K. Brown, 46, Washburn, died Nov. 28, 2000, in a Rochester, Minn. hospital. Private services were held December 2, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Brown, Washburn; two sons, Travis, Bismarck, and Andrew, Washburn; his mother, AlDonna Brown, Falkirk; and one sister, Wanda Martin, Little Rock, Ark. Walter E. Eckelberg
DUNN CENTER -- Walter E. Eckelberg, 76, Dunn Center, died Dec. 2, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital. Arrangements are pending at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
