DUNN CENTER -- Alfred B. Hansen, 85, Dunn Center, died March 31, 2000 in the Killdeer care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Killdeer. Burial will be in Werner Cemetery, east of Killdeer. He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Dwight, Dunn Center, Bob, Dickinson, and Fred, Dunn Center; three daughters, Eileen Nickisch, St. Charles, Mo., Marla Morrison, Killdeer, and Carla Trotter, Grassy Butte; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Holt, Casselton. Eileen Jacobson
WILLISTON -- Eileen Jacobson, 76, 1413 North Main, Williston, died March 31, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at Bethel Home Chapel, Williston. Eileen was born Aug. 22, 1924 at Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth Evans. She was raised and educated in Waukegan, Ill. She then joined the Women Auxiliary Corps (Army). She married Paul Jacobson in Durham, N.C. on June 27, 1945. After Eileen was discharged from the Army in 1945, she and Paul moved to Paul's hometown of Rugby. In 1972, the couple moved to Williston, where she worked at Hedderich's Department Store and BoDo's until retirement. Eileen is survived by her husband, Paul; three daughters and one son-in-law, Cheryl and Ken Foss, Las Vegas, Nev., Polly Jacobson, Minneapolis, and Laura Jacobson, Marinette, Wis.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Diane Jacobson, Hazen, Paul Jacobson and Susan Reinertson, and Chris Jacobson, all of Bismarck; one brother, Walter Evans, Santa Barbara, Calif.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Pat and Mae. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Gertrude Schneider
GLEN ULLIN -- Gertrude Schneider, 94, Glen Ullin, died March 30, 2000, in Glen Ullin. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Glen Ullin. Visitation begins after 4 p.m. MDT today at the church and is ongoing until the service time. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. MDT tonight at Sacred Heart in Glen Ullin. Gertrude was born on Jan. 11, 1906, in Glen Ullin, the daughter of Philip Geck Sr. and Christina (Feser) Geck. She was raised on the farm and educated in Glen Ullin. She married Mathias Schneider on Sept. 3, 1924, at Sacred Heart in Glen Ullin. Following their marriage, the couple settled on a farm northeast of Glen Ullin and operated the farm until 1962 when they retired and moved to Glen Ullin. In the past, Gertrude enjoyed gardening, knitting, baking and puzzles. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and the outdoors. She entered the Marian Manor on Oct. 5, 1998, where she has resided since. She was a member of Christian Mothers. She is survived by six sons, Leonard, Glen Ullin, James (Micky), Moorhead, Minn., Sylvester (Barbara), Glen Ullin, Leo (Mary Lou), Belfield, William (LeRae), Rochester, Minn., and John, Dickinson; her daughters, Irene (Donald) Moffett, Fallon, Mont., Bernice (Joe) Walker, Lindsay, Mont., Laura (Frederick) Wehri, Glen Ullin, Margie Ternes, Mandan, Dorothy (Emil) Sauvageau, Belfield, Viola (Eugene) Weinhardt, Glen Ullin, and Florence (Leo) Weinberger, Dickinson, and Rita (Bill) Wedell, Saratoga, Calif.; 54 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Bechhold, Glen Ullin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mathias on May 11, 1964; one son, Lawrence, and an infant; and seven brothers and five sisters. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)

Ernest Grenz
KARLSRUHE -- Ernest Grenz, 86, Karlsruhe, died April 29, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, with the Rev. Clinton E. Grenz, retired Army chaplain officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by Bismarck VFW Gilbert N. Nelson Post 1326. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday and until services Tuesday at the funeral home. Ernest was born to Fred and Christina (Schnaidt) Grenz Sr., on May 11, 1913, on the family farm near Napoleon. Ernest served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and remained on active duty for six years and four months. His military awards included Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, with one bronze star, and Philippine Liberation Medal with one star. After his time in the Army, Ernest served as a prison guard at the Folsom Federal Prison, Folsom, Calif. He later worked at the Sacramento Army Depot, Sacramento, Calif., where he retired with a medical disability. Ernest enjoyed traveling and visiting his many nieces and nephews, and friends. In 1935, Ernest married Emma Rudolph of Napoleon. Together they raised one son. Ernest was a former member of the Napoleon Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. On May 4, 1991, he married Helen Klein. He is survived by his wife, Helen; two brothers, Roland and John, both of Bismarck; one granddaughter, Athena Maria Grenz O'Brien; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Vernon; his parents; one sister, Lydia Schauer; and five brothers, Edwen, Fred Jr., Gideon, Adam and Jacob Grenz. Hilda Rahn
BEULAH -- Hilda Rahn, 89, Beulah, died April 27, 2000, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Old Peace Cemetery, Hazen. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen. Hilda was born Feb. 8, 1911, near Krem, the daughter of Gotthilf and Katharina (Tschaekofske) Grosz. She grew up and was educated in the Krem area. Following her education, Hilda remained on her parents' farm and helped. On Dec. 26, 1937, Hilda was united in marriage to Albert Rahn at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. To this marriage, they were blessed with two sons, Gene and Dallas. Together, Hilda and Albert farmed 10 miles north of Hazen. Following Albert's death in 1974, Hilda moved to Hazen, where she resided until moving into Knife River Care Center in Beulah. She was a member of Krem area Homemakers Club and was active in the Peace Lutheran Ladies Aide in Hazen. Hilda enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and guests. She especially enjoyed her family and will be missed by all. She is survived by her son, Dallas, Layton, Utah; two grandchildren, Stacy Dennis and her husband, Chris, and Stephanie Osteen and her husband, Jerry; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Dennis and Gunnar Osteen; two sisters, Selma Huber and Leona Lamphier; one brother, Erwin Grosz; three sisters-in-law, Edna Rahn, Adina Haining and Ida Shiney; and one brother-in-law, Fred Harbecke. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gene; five brothers and two sisters.

DICKINSON -- Orma Ripley, 100, died April 27, 2000, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Monday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, with burial in Dickinson Cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Lloyd, Grand Rapids, Mich.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Veronica Schiele
KARLSRUHE -- Veronica Schiele, 84, Bismarck, died April 28, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m..-9 p.m. Monday at Boelter Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Veronica was born Dec. 23, 1915, near Karlsruhe, the daughter of Ben and Ottilia (Ott) Mosser. She was raised and educated at Karlsruhe. She married Louis M. Schiele on June 9, 1937, in Karlsruhe. They farmed south of Drake until 1949, when they moved into town where they lived until 1997. They then moved to Bismarck, where they have since resided. Veronica enjoyed both embroidery and making quilts with her husband. She was very caring and an awesome cook. She will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Louis M.; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Donna Gange and her special friend, Larry Weltikol, Minot, Vernetta and Charles Lemar, Ida and Arnie Stebleton, and Michelle and Bruce Schatz, all of Bismarck, and Kathy and Bill Vetsch, Anamoose; six sons and seven daughters-in-law, Allen and Darlene, and Bennie and Judy, all of Huron, S.D., Daniel and Bonnie, Dennis and Jane, and Stella Schiele, all of Bismarck, Jerry and Bobbie, Steele, and Charles and Pam, Fairmont; two brothers, Mike and Bennie Mosser, Minot; four sisters, Francis Heilman and Teresa Diebert, both of Minot, Betty Lanning, Washington, and Helen Hilzendeger, Rugby; 31 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Ralph; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers; and one sister.
