Ryan Benz
DICKINSON -- Ryan Benz, 17, Dickinson, died April 9, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital after a battle with cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 to noon today, and one hour before services at the church. Ryan was born Aug. 24, 1982, in Dickinson, to Richard and Elaine (Brown) Benz. He attended school at Heart River Elementary, Hagen Junior High School and most recently at Dickinson High School. Ryan was active in Boy Scouts of America, and lettered in Student Congress. He loved his studies and was an honor student. Ryan participated in Babe Ruth Baseball, and in basketball his freshman year. His hobbies included collecting baseball cards and autographs from baseball players. He enjoyed attending major league baseball games, and loved camping and working on his computer. Ryan was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Boy Scout Troop 32, sponsored by St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Elaine Benz, Dickinson; one sister, Alecia Benz, Dickinson; his grandparents, Ruby Benz, Dunn Center, and Tillie Brown, Center; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Make a Wish Foundation of North Dakota, Ronald McDonald House Charities, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

MINOT -- Inga Marie Bradley, 89, Minot, and formerly of Ryder, died April 11, 2000 in a Minot nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Minot, with burial in Ryder Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Donald, Beulah, and Kenneth, Ryder; four daughters, Lorraine Nelson, Douglas, Doris Ann Zieman, Round Mountain, Nev., Myrna Scheer, Dickinson, and Lois Nogosek, Minot; and 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Hertha Brockel, 77, Bismarck, and formerly of McLaughlin, S.D., died April 11, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Friday, at United Church of Christ, McLaughlin. Burila will be in McLaughlin City Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Larry and Russel, both of Bloomington, Minn.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alvina Walker, Rapid City, S.D., Tillie Martel, McLaughlin, and Martha Walker, McLaughlin. John Fuchs
CARSON -- John Fuchs, 76, Carson, died April 12, 2000 in the Elgin care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Sunday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carson. Burial will be in Leith Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time on Sunday. John was born Feb. 26, 1924 in Paradise to Philip and Rose (Neher) Fuchs. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. John married Lillian Hochhalter on Jan. 1, 1947. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 and worked on various construction jobs in the tri-state area until his retirement in 1983. John is survived by his wife, Lillian; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bruce and Sandi, Bismarck, and Ricky, Gackle; one grandson, Joshua; one granddaughter, Jessica; and one brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Frances, Center. Mildred Gillen
Our dear mother, Mildred Gillen, 89, Bismarck, died April 1, 2000 in a local care center. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Mildred Wenaas was born March 4, 1911, the daughter of Sigurd and Nellie Wenaas at Arena. She attended school there and later in Bismarck. She was confirmed at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church on Aug. 10, 1924. On Jan. 10, 1931, she married William F. "Bud" Gillen. They lived in Bismarck and wintered in Arizona for 17 years until 1994. She moved to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in April of 1995. Mildred enjoyed bowling, bingo, dancing and crocheting afghans for family and friends. She was an election worker for years. She was a member Trinity Lutheran Church, the Elks, and one of the founding members of the Elkettes. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and a special grandmother and great-grandmother. Mildred is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Frankie and Gerald Lunn, Bismarck, and their children, Gary, Dr. R. Jay and wife Jayne, Michael and wife, Sue, and Karin and husband, Michael Gerszewski; two sons, Bill, Santa Fe, N.M., and his children, Stephanie and husband, Brent Linnenkamp, and Bill, Michael and wife, Donna, Grand Forks, and their children, Douglas and wife, Kari, Bob, and Tom; four great-grandchildren, Brendan Lunn, Kate and Jennifer Gillen, and Noah Gerszewski; two sisters, Bernice Asbridge, Bismarck, and Reggie Wetch, Mandan; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Gillen, Kathryn Gillen and Doris Rauchstadt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, on Nov. 8, 1997; her parents; two sisters and one brother. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
Walter W. Helm
Walter W. Helm, 70, Bismarck, died April 12, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tim A. Jenks officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at the McClusky City Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. He was born on Dec. 6, 1929 in rural McClusky the son of Fred and Margaret (Pleinis) Helm. He was raised and educated in McClusky. Walter married Marilyn Reiser on June 15, 1952 in McClusky. They farmed south of McClusky until 1977. They moved to Bowdon where he was Mobil bulk dealer. In 1988, they moved to Bismarck, where they have lived since. He worked at the Kensington for a few years. He enjoyed farming and the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. Walter is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Dallas Pfennig, McClusky, and Paula and Ben Johnston, Sykeston; one son, Mitchell, Athens, Ala.; eight grandchildren; one brother, Albert Helm, McClusky; and six sisters, Lydia Schaeffer, Martha Roth, Anetta Murray, Emma Lauer, Edna Brackett, all of McClusky, and Pauline Broeckel, Bismarck. Constine "Connie" P. Scholl
Constine "Connie" P. Scholl, 72, Bismarck, died April 11, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital of leukemia. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Edwin Wehner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Public visitation will be at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, from 1-9 p.m. today, where an Elks Memorial Service will be said at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, at Boelter Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. that evening. He was born March 9, 1928 in Raleigh, the son of Casper and Monica (Erhardt) Scholl. He attended St. Mary's High School in Bismarck. He then worked for Corwin-Churchill Body Shop for 18 1/2 years. Connie married Sarah Keith on June 17, 1946 in Flasher. In June, 1964, he started Connie's Body Shop which is still operated today by his sons. He was a member of the Bismarck Elks Lodge for 40 years, Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in 1970-1971, and was currently the Tiler at the Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Bismarck Eagles. He enjoyed horseback riding and was a past member of the 7th Cavalry. The cabin at Lake Isabel which he built in 1964, was his pride and joy. He especially enjoyed having his grandchildren spend time with him at the lake. Connie is survived by his wife, Sarah; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet Channel, Costa Mesa, Calif., Yvonne and John Doone, Mill Creek, Wash., and Lynn and Bruce Menne, Bothell, Wash.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel and Debbie, and Arlan and Annette, all of Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Wade, Joy and Todd Hought, Angie, Jeff and Madeline Scholl, Brianne and Lindsey Schmidt, Haley and Daniel Menne; one brother, Casper, Bismarck; and two sisters, Monica Kahl, Modesto, Calif., and Dorothy Seelye, Flasher. Dorothy Schuler
Dorothy Schuler, 88, Bismarck, died April 11, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, and noon-9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Service, and for one hour prior to the service at Eastgate Funeral Service. Dorothy was born on April 8, 1912 in Hazelton, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Horner) Schlittenhart. She married Adolph Schuler on May 13, 1933 and they lived in Washburn. In 1943, they moved to Burleigh County and farmed near Baldwin. Following Adolph's death in 1969, Dorothy moved to Bismarck, where she resided until entering St. Vincent's Care Center in 1993. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and cooking. She spent many enjoyable hours crocheting items as gifts for her family. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Phyllis, Alden and Marlys, and Melvin and Linda, all of Bismarck, and Norvel and Louella, Baldwin; three daughters and one son-in-law, Virginia Martin, Las Vegas, Nev., Janet and Alvin Hojian, and Marlys Fricke, all of Bismarck; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; two granddaughters, Lisa and Debbie Schuler; and four brothers and three sisters. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
Robert "Bob" H. Senn
Robert "Bob" H. Senn, 76, Mandan, died April 10, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at noon Friday at Christ the King Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery with military honors provided by Mandan American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars Posts. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. today, and a rosary and vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Robert was born Feb. 16, 1924, at Odense, the son of Stanis and Mary (Korte) Senn. Raised and educated there, he entered the U.S. Army in 1945, serving in Japan. Discharged in 1946, he served in the Reserves until 1949. On April 12, 1948, he married Ruth Anhorn at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan. They made their home in Mandan and he was employed by the North Dakota State Highway Department, Bismarck Grocery and Nash Finch, retiring from Bismarck Super Valu as a truck driver in 1986. Bob remained active after retirement driving school bus for the Mandan Public Schools and delivering Meals on Wheels for Golden Age Services until ill health prevented him from doing so. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Medcenter One Care Center in Mandan. He was a member of Christ the King Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bismarck Teamster Retirees, AARP and Golden Age in Mandan. He loved trucks and camping and traveling with his family. Time spent visiting with others and working in the yard was special to him. Taking "his kids" to Hardee's was an enjoyable event for all. Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth; his sister, Margaret Wentz, Rufus, Ore.; his half-brother, Jim Senn, Washington; his nieces and nephews, Gary and Pat Anhorn, Peggy Benz, Sandra Prudente, all of Mandan, and Gary and Carol Backman, Bismarck; special great-nieces and nephews, Nicole and Darren, Cody, Stgacy and Paul, Travis, Tiffany, Ivy, Courtney, Michael and John, and many others out of state; and a special great-grand-niece, Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William. Bob, as he was known by everyone, will be greatly missed by his family, neighbors and friends. He loved to visit and was ready to talk to everyone.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; one stepson, Kevin Hildenbrand, Mesa, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Barbara Olson, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosemary Hildenbrand, Superior, Wis., and Margaret Opp, Minot. John Wanner
John Wanner, 81, Bismarck, died April 11, 2000 in Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, where he had been a resident since February, 1997. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Church of the Nazarene, Bismarck. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck. He was born March 3, 1919 at rural Mercer, to Christ and Christina (Bonnet) Wanner. He attended rural school and worked on the family farm with his parents until 1943. He left the farm and spent a brief time in California before moving to Bismarck where he operated a landscaping business. John married Anna Marie Anderson on Oct. 14, 1950 in Montana. In 1951, they sold the landscaping business and moved to Nevis, Minn., where they owned and operated a farm and resort for several years. In 1959, they returned to Bismarck. In later years, he owned and managed apartment rentals until his retirement. John was a member of the Church of the Nazarene for many years. He liked to fish and loved to spend time with his family and friends. He is survived by one son, Gail Wanner; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ron Weigum; and their mother, Anna Marie Connell, all of Bismarck; also three grandchildren, Brittany Wanner, Jeffrey and Bradley Weigum; two brothers, Ted Wanner, Bismarck, and the Rev. Herbert Wanner, Minot; four sisters, Ruth Vogel and Lillian Bentz, both of Bismarck, Helen Grosz, McClusky and Marion Geigel, Anamoose; and a close friend, Hilda Mittelstead.
