Gene F. Evenson, 64, Greeley, Colo., and formerly of Edgeley and Bismarck, died April 6, 2000 in a Greeley hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Adamson Mortuary's West Chapel, Greeley. He is survived by his wife, Mary Carol; one son, Kirk, Great Falls, Mont.; two daughters, Kerry Mayer, Littleton, Colo., and Lynette Alkanani, Aurora, Colo.; one grandson; and two sisters, Anita LaBerge, Grafton, and Sharon Westman, Minneapolis.

WILLISTON -- Services for Ethel L. Hastings, 86, Williston, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Liberty Evangelical Free Church, Williston, with burial in Schafer Cemetery, Watford City. She is survived by four sons, Claude Kidd, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada, Arnold Hastings Jr., Fond Du Lac, Wis., and David Hastings, Beaverton, Ore.; two daughters, Arlene Hickel, Williston, and DeArlyn Carney, Fridley, Minn.; one brother, Cecil Wilson, Williston; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Barbara Hoerner
Barbara Hoerner, 79, Bismarck, died April 9, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Private family services will be held at a later date. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Pete and Marge, Lincoln, Tom and Carolyn, Arizona; two daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and Bruce Reed, Minnesota, Darlene and Dennis Natzke, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Viola Schaff, Montana, Ann Rolle, Dickinson, and Jen Swschan, Sturgis, S.D.; three brothers, Jake Hoerner, Washington, Kasper and Paul Hoerner, South Dakota; and a special friend, Marie Chapman, New Rockford. Anthony "Tony" Hoover
Anthony "Tony" Hoover, 54, Bismarck, died April 8, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will be held at 8 p.m. that evening. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church. Anthony "Tony" Hoover was born June 19, 1945 in Richmond, Ind., the son of Kenneth and Betty Hoover. He was raised and attended school in Cambridge City, Ind., and Dayton, Ohio. Tony married Kathleen "Kay" Weiss on June 28, 1967 in Richmond, Ind. In December 1965, he joined the Marine Corps and served for three years. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served with the 2nd Marine Division. He received the Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal. He also served in the Air Force from 1971 through 1978. He moved with his family to Bismarck, where he graduated from Bismarck State College. He worked at various locations in the local area in Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration. He was employed, the last 10 years, at Central Mechanical Inc., located in Mandan. Tony was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who thoroughly enjoyed all facets of life, including his work. He is survived by his wife, Kay; three sons, Patrick, and his son, Trenton, Mesa, Ariz., Robert and his wife, Lilly, and their three children, Ariel, Robby and Alex, all of Bismarck, and Paul and his wife, Jeannie, and their son, Everett, Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Amy and her husband, Chris Weedon, Clarkston, Mich.; and his stepfather, Robert Myers, Cambridge City, Ind. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Myers. Jeffrey Knudson
Jeffrey Knudson, 18, Bismarck, died April 8, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bob Nordvall officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m., with a time of sharing at 6 p.m. today, at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Jeffrey was born on July 2, 1981 in Bismarck. He attended Will-Moore, Simle and was a senior at Century High School. He enjoyed music, soccer and fishing with grandpa, spending time with his cousins, friends and special friend, Angie Bauer. Jeff enjoyed his musical accomplishments with the piano and cello and played with the Century High School Orchestra. He planned to attend piano tuning school after graduation. He is survived by his mother, Beverly Knudson and her fiance, Bob McCay; his father and stepmom, David and Kaye Knudson; one brother, Christopher; two stepsisters, Maddie and Margret Harris, all of Bismarck; his grandparents, Adolph and Margret Anklam, rural Arnegard, Robert and Marilyn Knudson, Mandan; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Ryan Benz
DICKINSON -- Ryan Benz, 17, Dickinson, died April 9, 2000, in the Dickinson hospital after a battle with cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. today at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, and will continue after 5:30 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Church, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home from 9:30-noon, and one hour before services at the church. Ryan was born Aug. 24, 1982, in Dickinson, to Richard and Elaine (Brown) Benz. He attended school at Heart River Elementary, Hagen Junior High School and most recently at Dickinson High School. Ryan was active in Boy Scouts of America, and lettered in Student Congress. He loved his studies and was an honor student. Ryan participated in Babe Ruth Baseball, and in basketball his freshman year. His hobbies included collecting baseball cards and autographs from baseball players. He enjoyed attending major league baseball games, and loved camping and working on his computer. Ryan was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Boy Scout Troop 32, sponsored by St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Elaine Benz, Dickinson; one sister, Alecia Benz, Dickinson; his grandparents, Ruby Benz, Dunn Center, and Tillie Brown, Center; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Make a Wish Foundation of North Dakota, Ronald McDonald House Charities, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Sara Marie Brisben
Sara Marie Brisben was born Feb. 10, 1978, and died on April 10, 2000. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jacob Kincaid officiating. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 6-8 tonight to greet friends. She was born in Grand Forks and moved to Bismarck, where she grew up. Sara was a 1996 graduate of Century High School and had attended North Dakota State University. Sara enjoyed tubing in Minnesota, being with her friends and family events. She lived her life carefree and always wore a smile. Sara has meant so much to so many people and will be greatly missed. Sara is survived by her parents, Mike and Barb; three sisters, Katie, Julie and Lisa; one nephew, Anthony, all of Bismarck; her grandmother, Barb Brisben, Jamestown; her grandparents, Robert and Donna Dyrdahl, Florence, Mont.; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and three very special friends, Christy, Eva and Natasha. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Rex Brisben. We will miss and love you forever, Sara.
