Orville Strand
Orville G. Strand, 80, Bismarck, died June 10, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military rites provided by VFW Post 1326. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Orville was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Portland, N.D., to Theodore and Clara (Bothun) Strand. Throughout his lifetime he had worked and achieved many things. He served in the armed forces in the Pacific. Upon his return, he operated the cafe in Portland. Orville married Solveig Korsmo in 1952. They later moved to the Bismarck area and Orville became involved in the construction business. At one time he worked for Donald Johnson and Weeda Construction. Orville married Arlene (Stolz) Williams on Oct. 18, 1975. He eventually started his own companies; Strand Construction, Frontier Steel and Interstate Properties. Orville was involved in the Home Builders Association, where he held the position of president in 1970. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and Eagles clubs, and was also involved with the VFW, Moose and American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed many hours at his cabin at Brush Lake with his family and friends. Orville is survived by his wife, Arlene; four children and their spouses, Renae and John Krueger, Greeley, Colo., Gail Fricke, Brian Strand and Janet and Donnie Wald, all of Bismarck; four stepchildren and their spouses, Dianne Mueller, Bloomington, Minn., Tom Williams, Dickinson, Michael and Valerie Williams, Moorestown, N.J., and Jim and Faith Williams, Tulsa, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; one brother, Maynard; two sisters, Agnes Braaten and Gladys Thuen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Orville was looking forward to his first great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ernest, Clarence and James; and one sister, Mavis Carlson. The family will be forwarding memorials to the Ruth Meiers Hospitality House and the Medcenter One Hospice and Oncology departments.

Clarence Blonigen
CARRINGTON -- Clarence J. Blonigen, 75, Carrington, died June 18, 2001, in the Carrington hospital. Arrangements are pending at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Samuel Dorr
Samuel Dorr, 82, Minneapolis, died June 14, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Charles Axness officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 tonight at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Samuel was born Sept. 21, 1918, on a farm at Hazelton, the son of Gust and Ida (Taxis) Dorr. He received his education at the North Dakota State School for the Blind at Bathgate, where he majored in piano tuning. He also attended school at Faribault, Minn., where he learned weaving and carpentry. On March 28, 1959, he was united in marriage to Violet Cornish at the First Lutheran Church in Mandan. They moved to Minneapolis where they have resided since. He was a devoted husband to Violet and was loved and admired by many friends, and all of his piano customers. He is survived by his loving wife, Violet; his sisters, Otillia Gilliband, Minneapolis, Amelia Skipper, North Carolina, and Olga Neal and her husband, Don, Grand Forks; his brothers, Herman and his wife, Beverly, Elk River, Minn., and Rueben, Wisconsin; his mother-in-law, Carrie Thorson, Glendive, Mont.; numerous nieces and nephews; very dear friends, Darrel Klein and Emma Schleenhardt, both of Bismarck, Wilbur and Laverna Neis, Wishek, and the Bader family. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, one in infancy and Edwin; two sisters, Esther Stone and Hilda McKennis; and one brother-in-law, Milo Gilliband. The Lord needed a piano tuner in heaven, so he called our beloved Sam.

Joyce Gottschall
TURTLE LAKE -- A memorial service for Joyce Gottschall, 62, Thornton, Colo., was held June 9, 2001, in Commerce City, Colo. She is survived by five children, Candace Perez, Aberdeen, S.D., Brian, Thornton, Teresa West, Thornton, Allen, Littleton, Colo., and Lenus, Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Darlene Hochsprung; and one brother, Byron Lindteigen.

Adam Hoff
GLAD VALLEY, S.D. -- Adam Hoff, 83, Glad Valley, died June 17, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Isabel, with burial in Hillview Cemetery, Isabel. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three sons, Leroy, Hill City, Nicodemus, Dickinson, N.D., and Duane, Glad Valley; two daughters, Jeanette Hoff, Buffalo, and Frances Trainor, Torrington, Wyo.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Jake, Ephrata, Wash., Chris and Joe, both of Lemmon; and two sisters, Elizabeth Harwood, Ridge Manor, Fla., and Katie Kling, Keldron. Bonnie Johnson
Bonnie Kay Johnson, 44, Sabin, Minn., died June 17, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Block Memorial Chapel, Trinity Bible College, Ellendale, with burial in Ellendale Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Paul; one daughter, Michelle, at home; her mother, Viola Middlestead, Ellendale; three brothers, Edwin, West Fargo, Vernon, Aberdeen, S.D., and Dale, Ellendale; and one sister, Betty Nies, Ellendale. Viola Keys
Viola Keys, 70, Mandan, died June 14, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. At her request, her body was donated to the UND Medical School. Vi was born Nov. 14, 1930, in Lusk, Wyo., the daughter of William and Maderine (Dixon) Porter. She was raised and educated in Newcastle, Wyo. She is survived by one daughter, Shannon Howry-Kuntz and her special friend, Pat, Couer d' Alene, Idaho; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bob, and Steve and Joyce, all of Mandan, and Mark and Susie, Ramsey, Minn.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Porter, Crete, Neb. Her parents; one sister; and one grandchild preceded her in death. She will be forever missed.

Regina Kline
SELFRIDGE -- Regina Jean Kline, 63, New Castle, Wyo., died June 11, 2001, in New Castle. Services and burial were held June 15 at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. She is survived by her husband, Orville Jr.; four sons, David, Kenneth and Jeffery, all of New Castle, and Keith, Longview, Wash.; one daughter, Karen, Kelso, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard Braun, Bismarck; and six sisters, Tillie Landeis, Ann Berger, Barbara Feist, all of Mandan, Elizabeth Flemmer and Theresa Jefferson, both of Phoenix, and Katie, Billings, Mont.

Vincent Kubischta
DICKINSON -- Vincent Kubischta, 89, Dickinson, died June 18, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Hertha Maas
HAZEN -- Hertha Katherine Maas, 85, Hazen, died June 16, 2001, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. David Suelzle officiating. Burial will be in St. James' Cemetery, Krem. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen. Hertha Katherine Mann was born March 14, 1916, near Halliday, to John and Julianna (Koehler) Mann. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, and attended rural school south of Beulah where she grew up. As a young woman, she worked for area farm families and the Crippled Children's Home at Arthur. She married Emil Maas, Nov. 6, 1938, at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. Hertha and Emil lived and farmed one mile east of Krem all their married life. They were members of St. James Lutheran Church, Krem, and later St. Paul's Lutheran Church, northeast of Hazen. Emil died Nov. 6, 1973. Hertha moved to Beulah in 1975. She was employed at the Beulah nursing home for four years. She moved to Hazen in April 1978, and became a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She was employed at a local restaurant from 1979 until her retirement. Hertha had many interests. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers, fruit trees and garden, baking apple pies and kuchen, playing cards, embroidering, crocheting, quilting and woodworking. She touched so many people with her spirit of caring, giving and laughter. Her greatest joy was sharing her love with her family. Hertha is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, DeLora and Loren Kilber, Hazen; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jeffrey and Colette Kilber, Hazen, Cammy and Dean Bray, Bismarck, and Kenyon Kilber, Alexandria, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Alexander Bray, and Nicole and Heather Kilber; two step-brothers and four step-sisters-in-law, The Rev. Carl Schulz, Spokane, Wash., Herbert and Ella Schulz Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada, Wanda Schulz, Isle, Minn., and Rose Schulz and Lenora Schulz, both of Beulah; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hertha was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, John Schulz; her husband, Emil; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda and Alfred Rahn, Selma and Ted Wentz; five step-brothers and three step-sisters-in-law, Edward, Ferdinand and Ava, Joseph and Maryellen, Geriee, Paul and William Schulz.

William Parsley
WILLISTON -- William J. Parsley, 69, Williston, died June 17, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Everson Memorial Chapel, Williston. Further arrangements are pending.

Rose Schmidtt
Rose Schmidtt, 97, Bismarck, died June 18, 2001, in her home. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Harold Sorensen
GARRISON -- Harold Sorensen, 73, Lead, S.D., died June 15, 2001, in his home in Garrison. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Ann Stark
Ann Theresa Stark, 84, Bismarck, died June 16, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Ann Leier was born Nov. 10, 1916, in Orrin, the daughter of Peter and Magdelena (Ziegler) Leier. She was raised and educated in Orrin. Ann lived in Los Angeles from 1942 to 1944, when she moved to Bismarck. She married Aaron Stark on June 3, 1944, in Bismarck. The couple farmed south of McKenzie and moved to Bismarck in 1996. Ann was a member of St. Hildegard's Altar Society and Church of St. Mary. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon Envik, Lebanon, Tenn., and Dorothy and Roger Johnsen, Bismarck; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dan Envik, Waylon Envik, Teresa and Jim Lewis, Todd and Robyn Johnsen, and Travis and Lesli Johnsen; four great-grandchildren, Ricky Envik, Jessica Lewis, Tessa Johnsen and Blair Johnsen; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Kay Leier, Mandan, and George and Lizzy Leier, Orrin; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron, on June 25, 1997; her parents; her four sisters, Mary Schmalz, Lena Schuch, Katherine Koble and Christine Wald; and her three brothers, John, Peter and Joe Leier.

Al Stein
Al Stein, 69, Glendale, Ariz., died June 14, 2001, in a Glendale hospital. Services will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, Glendale. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his mother, Rose Stein, Mandan; four sons, Arlin, Brian, Kevin and Alden, all of Arizona; two step-children, Rich and Vicki, both of Arizona; his grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Miller, Mandan, and Jeannette Straub, Bismarck; and his brothers, Richard, Mandan, and Jim, San Diego.

Robert Turner
JAMESTOWN -- Robert B. Turner, 73, Jamestown, died June 17, 2001, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Kulla, Kensal, and Ruth Hamilton, Larkspur, Colo.; and two brothers, Richard, San Diego, Calif., and Edgar, Carrington. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Clarence Blonigen

He is survived by his wife, Evangeline; one daughter, Mary Nelson, Carrington; one son, Dale, Carrington; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Alford, Minot, and Rita Gulbranson, Portal. Ivan Gall
MCKENZIE -- Ivan Gall, 85, McKenzie, died June 19, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bismarck Baptist Home Chapel, with the Rev. Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by VFW Post 1326. Visitation will begin one hour before services at the chapel. Ivan was born Feb. 12, 1916, at Hillside, Mont., the son of Gustave and Emelia (Kautz) Gall. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school near Hillside. At age 16, he moved with his family to Sioux County in North Dakota. He worked inthe Civilian Conservation Corp. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked and resided on the Aaron Stark farm for 52 years. Ivan enjoyed farming, gardening and raising animals. He is survived by his sisters, Alma Canada, Homeland, Calif., Erna Gierhart and her husband, Melvin, Sidney, Ohio, Violet Marrick and her husband, Mel, DePere, Wis., and Earlene Beckman and her husband, Martin, Billings, Mont.; his brothers, Harold and his wife, Minnie, and Wesley and his wife, Betty, all of McIntosh, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.

Milton Goehring
Milton Goehring, 66, Bismarck, died June 19, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.
