CROSBY -- Lisa Forthun, 101, Crosby, died, May 4, 2001, in the Crosby care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus, with burial in Pleasant Prairie Cemetery, Columbus. She is survived by three daughters, Helen Dewing, Bismarck, and Elaine Benson and Lyla Rollofson, both of Crosby; her three sons, Marlin, Napa, Calif., Lydell, Bismarck, and Vernell, Albany, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. Iris Higgins
Iris Irene Higgins, 95, better known as Irene, died May 6, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at Boelter Funeral Home. Irene was born Dec. 19, 1905, in Montour, Iowa, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Downs) Franks. She attended school in Mount Vernon, Iowa, graduating from Cornell College in 1928. After touring Europe in 1930, she taught English, speech and drama at Mandan High School and married attorney Milton Higgins in 1937, with whome she raised their three children in Mandan, Washburn and Bismarck. Irene was involved in the women's PEO Society and McCabe United Methodist Church, where she served on the planning committee, and later worked for the Burleigh County Superintendent's Office before resuming her interests in reading, gardening, bridge and travel. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Devney and her husband, John "Jack," of Mahtomedi, Minn.; and their children, John and Joe Devney and Elizabeth Brandel; and by her son, Bruce Higgins, and his wife, Rebekka, Spokane, Wash.

Morris Kaldor
MAYVILLE -- Morris O. Kaldor, 88, Arlington, Wash., died May 4, 2001, in an Arlington care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Aal Lutheran Church, Hillsboro. Further arrangements are pending at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville)

UNDERWOOD -- Evenor Kapanke, 83, Underwood, died May 7, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Goetz Funeral Home, Underwood.

Ardy Kvanvig
HETTINGER -- Ardy Olendo Kvanvig, 56, Honolulu, Hawaii, died May 3, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Friday at Hettinger Lutheran Church. He is survived by his mother, Julia Kvanvig, Hettinger; three brothers, Russell, Twin Falls, Idaho, Dennis, Moorhead, Minn., and Steven, Hettinger; two sisters, Lynda Backman, Moorhead, and Amy Mason, Tacoma, Wash.; and one grandson.

Lillian Morin
HEBRON -- Lillian Morin, 74, Hebron, died May 6, 2001, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. John United Church of Christ, Hebron. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer service will begin at 7 tonight at the funeral home. Further arrangements are pending.

Mary Renville
TRENTON -- Mary Cecelia Renville, 98, Trenton, died May 6, 2001, in the Williston care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Myrna Richards
CENTER -- Myrna Gay Richards, 65, Center, died May 3, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Art Scanson officiating. Private burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Myrna was born Dec. 14, 1935, in Spearfish, S.D., the daughter of Harry and Edna (Campbell) Hufendick. She attended school in Lead, S.D., and married Jack Richards on Oct. 3, 1954, in New Castle, Del. They resided in New Castle until moving to Center in 1969. A kind and soft-hearted woman, Myrna was a very loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Myrna was very gifted in arts and crafts. She loved her time in the Black Hills spent motorcycling and fishing. She never missed a chance to attend a track meet, band concert or any other function of her grandchildren. Myrna was a member of the Center Fire Department and held a position on the Center Park Board. She was also a member of the Degree of Honor. She is survived by her husband, Jack; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Pat Curley, Watertown, S.D., and Deb and Jim Gienger, Bismarck; one granddaughter, Amanda Mosbrucker; one grandson, Sean Curley; one sister-in-law, Ruth and John Siekierda, New Castle. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna, who died April 28, 2001; her father, Harry; her brother, Edward; and an infant grandson, Ryan Mosbrucker.

John Riedy
LEMMON, S.D. -- Services for John Riedy, 89, Bismarck, will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lemmon, S.D., with burial in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon. He is survived by his wife, Aurelia; his children, Mary Hickerson, Marshall, Minn., John, Mankato, Minn., David, Bismarck, Thomas, Philip, S.D., Denise Hermes, Sutherlin, Ore., Jean Schrupp, Milbank, S.D., and Michael, Lemmon; 21 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. James Skaare
WILLISTON -- James B. Skaare, 87, Williston, died May 6, 2001, in the Williston hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston. He is survived by two sons, Gene, Dickinson, and Galen, Bismarck; one daughter, Georgia Raulston, Bismarck; one sister, Edna Swenson; two brothers, Palmer and Gordon; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Frieda Stiefel, 85, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died May 7, 2001, in the care center. Arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Otto Weist
WISHEK -- Otto Weist, 87, Wishek, died May 6, 2001, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ, Wishek, with burial in Wishek Cemetery. He is survived by his sister, Adeline Boschee, Sacramento, Calif. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)

Alice Zako
Alice Zako, 67, died May 6, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Stephen Wisthoff officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Alice Schauer was born July 16, 1933, in Napoleon. She was raised in Napoleon where she graduated from high school. Alice attended business college in Bismarck, prior to working at J.C. Penney in downtown Bismarck. She met Leonard Zako while he was trying to tie her shoes at a dance in the basement of the World War Memorial Building. Their romance included stops at their favorite spots, the OK Confecctionery and Finks Cafe, where the jukebox played their favorite tunes. They later tied the know on Nov. 7, 1953, at Huntington Park, Calif., where Leonard was stationed with the U.S. Navy. They lived in Bismarck where Alice devoted her life to her family. She and Leonard had an open door policy that made family and friends feel welcome and comfortable. Alice wanted people, especially children to know what it meant to have a home, and she worked to make an environment where you could grow, be safe and know you were loved. Alice is survived by her husband, Leonard; her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Karen, Rapid City, S.D.; her daughters and son-in-law, Cindy and Mike LaBere, Mandan, and Laurie Zako, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Shane and Jeremy Zako, Derek, Daren and Carrie LaBere, and Hunter Zako; her great-grandchildren, Taylor Zako, Hannah Zako, Nickolas Zako, Ryan Zako and Audrey Zako; her mother-in-law, Carrie Zako, Bismarck; her sister-in-law, Carol, California; her brothers, Walter Schauer, Napoleon, Allan Schauer, Marysville, Wash., and Weston Schauer, Beulah; and her sisters, Phyllis Hall, Georgia and Maxine Perkins, Florida. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lydia (Grenz) Schauer.

Harold Anderson
Harold L. Anderson, 74, Bismarck, passed away May 8, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. A masonic service begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Harold was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Wilton, to Victor and Anna M. (Vollan) Anderson. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Bismarck Junior College and graduated from UND with a law degree in 1952. He married Corynne Olson of Mohall Oct. 18, 1952. Harold practiced law in Bismarck for 49 years. In 1954, he took over the practice of F.E. McCurdy. He served as States Attorney of Burleigh County from 1955 to 1965 when he became a partner in the law firm of Cox, Pearce, Engebretson and Murray, which later became Pearce, Anderson and Durick Law Firm. He began a solo practice in 1985 and in 1987 he and his daughter Sonna formed a partnership known as Anderson and Anderson Law Firm. He enjoyed the practice of law and was a respected legislative lobbyist for 40 years. He had been CEO of TechSystems, Inc., since 1993. Harold was a member of numerous professional organizations, serving as president of the N.D. State Attorneys Association in 1959, president of the Burleigh County Bar Association in 1968, president of the N.D. Bar Association from 1977 to 1978, and was a member of the American Bar Association. In 1979 he was appointed a temporary district judge by the N.D. Supreme Court. In 1965 he was elected to the Bismarck Public School Board and served for 15 years until 1980. Harold was active in many civic organizations. He was president of the Bismarck Jaycees in 1958, president of the N.D. Jaycees in 1962 and was a JCI senator, president of the Bismarck Lions Club in 1972 and deputy district governor from 1974 to 1975, a master mason and was master of Lewis and Clark Lodge No. 132 of Bismarck from 1962 to 1963. He was active in the Shrine, the Plainsmen, Bismarck Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, Elks, VFW, Sons of Norway and RSVP. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Bismarck. He was a founding director of the Lutheran Bible Camp Association (Camp of the Cross) of Garrison. He is survived by his wife, Corynne; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Eric L. and Jerri (Swoyer) Anderson, Carmichael, Calif., Odin L. Anderson, Bismarck, and Thor L. and Ann Anderson, West Jordan, Utah; one daughter and son-in-law, Sonna Anderson and Jerry Saude, Bismarck; seven grandchildren, Jesse and Christopher Anderson, Erica and Emily Anderson, Sigurd and Bjorn Saude and Corynne Anderson; one sister, Margaret Lewis, Eau Clair, Wis.; and one brother, Vernal Anderson, Aurora, Colo. He was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents; one sister, Ruthella Agneberg; and one brother, Frayne Anderson. The family prefers memorials to First Lutheran Church or the N.D. Lung Association.

Hattie Austin
Hattie E. Austin, 92, Brownsburg, Ind., formerly of Jamestown, died May 6, 2001, in a Danville, Ind., hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Page Cemetery, Page. She is survived by one son, Charles, Brownsburg, Ind.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Caroline Bender, 82, Bismarck, died May 9, 2001, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Hildegarde G. Delaney, 95, Dillon, Mont., formerly of Williston, died May 7, 2001, at her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Casey, Dillon, Mont., and Blanche Schaan, Minot; one son, Thomas Jr., Nampa, Idaho; 32 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Clara Jacobs, Stanley, Dolores Yeager, Williston, and Margaret Stringer, Dickinson; and two brothers, Raymond Kueffler, Kennewick, Wash., and Joseph Kueffler, Cascade.
