DICKINSON -- Dvane "Dick" Weflen, 79, Dickinson, died Nov. 21, 2000, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Friday at River of Life Assembly Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in Dickinson Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Glorianne, Dickinson; one son, Kenneth, Dickinson; three daughters, Linda Igard, Dickinson, Dianell Sandberg, Tioga, and Cindy Flohr, Dickinson; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Rudolph, Tioga; and three sisters, Doris Iverson, Tioga, Betty Jane Jordan, Sun City, Ariz.; and Jeanette Swanson, Bismarck. Ralph E. Anderson
Ralph E. Anderson, 88, Bismarck, died Nov. 20, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at Bismarck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ben A. Dove officaiting. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at Bismarck Funeral Home. on Aug. 13, 1912 the son of John and Myrtle (Raygor) Anderson in ALta, in northern Burleigh County. He attended school at Pleasant View School. He farmed and ranched with his parents until 1973, then he moved to Wilton and lived with his brother, John and his wife, Katherine, until his marriage to Lucille Easton in December of 1987. He was active in the Wilton Senior Citizens helping build the new edition in 1974. In 1975, he erected a building on John's property which was used as and known as the Ding-A-Ling Museum which was sold in September of 1991. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, making many fishing trips to Canada. He is survived by his wife, Lucille, of 13 years; three stepsons and two daughters-in-law, Les (Pat) Easton, Bismarck, Bernard (Jane) Easton, Waldorf, Md., Dennis Easton and friend Elaine Manolovitz, Bismarck; one brother, John (Katherine) Anderson, Wilton; one brother-in-law, R.V. "Bus" Nelson, Billings, Mont.; one sister-in-law, Vina Anderson, Bismarck; nine nephews, Jim, Tim, Lavern, Miles and Ronald Anderson, Richard Falkenstein, Duane Johnson, Dwight and Robert Braunberger; and eight nieces, Lois Keator, Arllis Brown, Eileen Seelbach, Betty Altenburg, Norreen Mattfeldt, Virginia Bennett, Nancy Lane and Cindy Axtell. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ethel, Florence, Bessie and June; one brother, Albert; two nephews, Albert Anderson, Jr., and Douglas Braunberger. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Ellen Bailey, 78, Mandan, died Nov. 19, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Swonger officiating. April 6, 1922 at Arena, the daughter of Rudolph and Lydia (Matson) Harju. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1939. She married
Lawrence Bailey on April 8, 1944 in Bismarck. They lived in the Mandan-Bismarck area for many years. Ellen taught in rural schools in Burleigh County and later worked for St. Vincent's Nursing Home until 1974. Ellen was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She is survived by five grandchildren, LeAnne Tracey, Williston, Donald E. Bailey, Bismarck, Mike and Rick Bailey, and Brenda Evans, all of Illinois; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two stepsons, Lawrence Jr. and Donald G., both of Arizona; two sisters, Eunice Korpi, Mountain Iron, Minn., Judith Hogenson, Fairbanks, Alaska; and two brothers, Neal and Vernon Harju, Cokato, Minn. Dorothy Hintz, 65, Bismarck, died Nov. 22, 2000 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at First Presbyterian Church, Second St. and Thayer Ave., Bismarck, with the Rev. Jacob Kincaid officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, 1-9 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m.-noon, Monday, all at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck. Feb. 22, 1935, in Stanley, the daughter of Robert and Blanche (Arndt) Dennis. She was raised and educated in Stanley, graduating from high school in 1952. She attended Minot State Teachers College, and taught one year in a rural school in Coolee. Dorothy married
Robert C. Hintz on April 7, 1955 in Minot. They lived in Minot for 10 years, where her husband was employed at Sweetheart Bakery. In 1961, they transferred to Aberdeen, S.D., and moved to Bismarck in 1964, where they became associated with Scotty's Drive-In for 10 years and later B & L Meat Market for 15 years. Dorothy was a full-time wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted her time, energy and love to her family. She is survived by her husband, Bob; one daughter, Susan E. McClure, Sturgis, S.D.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tim, and Ron and Deb, all of Bismarck; four grandchildren, Kathleen and David McClure, and Jennifer and Lisa Hintz; one sister and brother-in-law, Crystal and Rockie Lee, Minot; one sister-in-law, Julie Dennis, Turtle Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph Hoon, Jr. on June 18, 1953 in Oceanside, Calif. They lived at Selfridge. Angela was an active Christian Mother, she cooked for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo. Most of all she enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Angela is survived by her eight sons and five daughters-in-law, James and Debra, Gillette, Richard and Romelle, Gillette, Kenneth and Lynn, Mandan, Fred and Susan, Cadoka, S.D., Daniel, McLaughlin, S.D., Andrew and Sabrina, Tipton, Iowa, Michael and Matthew, both of Gillette; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Julie and Mathew Wuitschick, Tipton, Iowa, Nyla Hoon, Bismarck, Lucille and Graylon Mittleider, McLaughlin, Margie and James Loeb, Mandan; eight brothers, George, Mike, Bob, Joe, Jim, John, Tony and Ronald Waliser; five sisters, Helen Holser, Mary Vollmuth, Betty Waliser, Patty Thinnes and Diane Waliser; 34 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Duane P. "Rudy" Rudolph, 71, Mandan, died Nov. 21, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at American Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Norm Beighley officiating. Paulette McFerran in Hawaii on June 19, 1992. Marie M. Downey
Marie M. Downey, died with peace, grace and courage on Nov. 23, 2000 in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born
on Aug. 29, 1921 in Alexandria, Minn., the daughter of Ole and Marie Soderquirst. She lived in Bismarck, where she attended Saint Mary's High School. After graduating in 1939, she was chief teller at First National Bank until her marriage to Donald Downey in 1950. The family lived in Sierra Vista, Ariz. and Osceola, Ark., before settling in Fayetteville in 1965. She was a long-time member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where she was active in decorating the church for the holidays, weddings and special occasions. She was a member of the Home and Garden Club. She is survived by her husband, Donald; three sons, Tim, Fayetteville; Bill and Leigh, Fayetteville, and Pat and Rebecca, Benton, Ark.; two sisters, Faye Johnson, Littleton, Colo., and Justine Fleck, Bismarck; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Rachel Downey, Benton. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Moore's Chapel, Fayetteville, with a rosary following visitation at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Fayetteville. James Leonard Palmer
James Leonard Palmer Jr., 80, Bismarck, died Nov. 22, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at noon Monday, at Church of St. Mary, with the Rev. Charles Heidt celebrant. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. James was born
on April 27, 1920 at Decorah, Iowa, the son of James Leonard and Ethel Irene (Miller) Palmer Sr. He was raised and educated in Iowa. In 1941, James enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a tech sergeant and a drill sergeant. He married
Mary Feist on March 19, 1943 in Denver, Colo. James was discharged in 1945. In 1949, they moved to Bismarck where he worked for Consolidated Freightways, Pius Halter Trucking and Yegan Dairy. After retiring from trucking, he worked at the University of Mary, and the American Legion. He liked to work with wood, and he loved to fish. James had a wonderful voice and enjoyed playing guitar. He was a member of the VFW, Eagles, St. Vincents de Paul, the Legion of Mary, and the American Legion. James is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Carin and Bryon West, Kintyre, and their daughter, Lisa Palmer and their three sons, Thomas, Daniel and David; Mary VanderLaan, Bismarck, and her two sons, Michael and Jason; Sharon and Patrick Scholl, Bismarck, and their daughter, Jennifer and their two sons, Jeffrey and Christopher, Janice and Dr. David Collins, Monroe, Utah, and their five daughters, Sarah and Kristen Frohlich, Catherine, Olivia and Madeline Collins, and their son, James Collins; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Shirley, Orono, Minn., and their son, Tracy; Rod and Susan, Arden Hills, Minn., and their two daughters, Ivy and Elaine and their son, John; four sisters, Helen Lindstrom, Everett, Wash., Betty Meyers, Barefoot Bay, Fla., Mary Hazen, Davenport, Iowa, and Merle Beale, Rock Island, Ill.; two brothers, Richard and Charles, both of Rock Island.
