Joanna E. Lipp
Joanna E. Lipp, 84, Bismarck, died Nov. 18, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 7 tonight, followed by a vigil. Visitation will continue one hour before services. Joanna was born icon Dec. 1, 1915, in Emmons County, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Horner) Rahrich. She was raised in the St. Michael's area. She married icon John Lipp on Jan. 10, 1939, at St. Michael's. They farmed south of Napoleon, and later near Braddock. In 1954, they moved to Bismarck. Joanna was employed by Sweetheart Bakery for a number of years. John died in 1983. Joanna was a past member of the Altar Society at St. Katherine's Catholic Church, Braddock, Homemakers Club and Catholic Daughters. Family was important to Joanna and she enjoyed cooking and sewing, especially for her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Viola Ressler, and Elaine and Joe Mathern, all of Bismarck; five sisters, Della Franklin, Portland, Ore., Barbara Rahrich, Braddock, Viola Rahrich, Minneapolis, Ann Johnson, Corning, Calif., and Lillian Hennessey, Reno, Nev.; five brothers, Eugene Rahrich and Wendelin Rahrich, both of Bismarck, Myron Rahrich, Braddock, Allen Rahrich and Richard Rahrich, both of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Joanna was preceded in death by her husband; and two brothers, Leo and Alex. The family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Central High School.

Agatha Anna Nistler
BEACH -- Agatha Anna Nistler, 90, Beach, died Nov. 18, 2000, in Mandan. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Beach, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Vincent, Beach, Bernard, Belfield, and Clarence, Roundup, Mont.; five daughters, Kathleen Quadc, Wibaux, Mont., Elaine Rymer, Pasadena, Calif., Irma Allard, Mohall, Jean Clark, Pasadena, and Mary Gange, Mandan; one brother, Ed Dietz, Sentinel Butte; one sister, Sister Eileen Dietz, Richardton; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Lillian C. Parker
NEW ROCKFORD -- Lillian C. Parker, 87, New Rockford, died Nov. 18, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, New Rockford, with burial in Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford. She is survived by her husband, Chester; three daughters, Kay Stein, Eden Prairie, Minn., Janice Manly, New Rockford, and Judy Johnson, Grand Forks; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Marion Erickson, Long Prairie, Minn., Alice Bullard, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Helen Temple, Phoenix; and two brothers, Dr. Harold Piltingsrud, Park River, and Clarence Piltingsrud, Canon City, Colo. Mabel Peterson
WASHBURN -- Mabel Peterson, 95, Hallock, Minn., died Nov. 18, 2000, in a Hallock nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

George Showers Pieterick
WOLFORD -- George Showers Pieterick, 92, Wolford, died Nov. 17, 2000, in the Rugby hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wolford Lutheran Church, with burial in Wolford Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Eudora; seven sons, Larry, Wolford, David, Shedd, Ore., Michael, Greenbush, Minn., Gordon, York, Thomas, Bismarck, Harry, New Rockford, and Richard, Rugby; two daughters, Paulette, Arroyo Grande, Calif., and Peggy Maczko, Fountain, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Powell, Spokane, Wash. Lydia E. Rath
TURTLE LAKE -- Lydia E. Rath, 90, Turtle Lake, died Nov. 19, 2000, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Turtle Lake, with burial in Turtle Lake Cemetery. She is survived by two sisters, Clara Rath, Turtle Lake, and Carrie Schock, Bismarck. (Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake)

Edwin Skager
Edwin Skager, 76, Bismarck, died Nov. 17, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bismarck Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Burnett officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Edwin was born icon June 29, 1924, in Oliver County, the son of Frank and Bessie Skager (Koester), long time farmers in Oliver County. Edwin was a life-long resident of North Dakota. In his span of years, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Philippine Liberation. During his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Award, Philippine LIberation Combat Infantry Badge, and Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. He was also a member of the 25th Division, and technician fifth grade sergeant. After his discharge from the service, Edwin taught rural school. He also worked in food service, where he spent many years. He worked at various restaurants and was a food service supervisor for 10 years at the Baptist Home. He worked for a number of years for McDowell's Big Boy, managing the KFC store on Sixth st. in Bismarck. He was also an LPN, graduating with the class of April 1950. Edwin married icon Ella Schlittenhardt on Aug. 28, 1956, in Bismarck. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Bismarck Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Ella; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jeff Carr; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Wendy, and Brad and Laura; seven grandchildren, Scott, Tyler, Casey, Jeremy, Kari, Riley and Gena; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Astrid Cook, Lola Holznagel, Lela and John Hohbein, and Tom and Donna Dick; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Ruth, and Alvin and Linda; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one grandson.

Amanda Weigum
HAZEN -- Amanda Weigum, 94, Hazen, died Nov. 19, 2000, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Margaret Baumgartner
Margaret Baumgartner, 91, Bismarck, died Nov. 11, 2000 in a local hospital. Arrangements are pending with Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Thomas M. Davidson
WILLISTON -- Thomas M. Davidson, 79, Williston, died Nov. 11, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Lloyd Grosgebauer
Lloyd "Red" Grosgebauer, 68, D'Iberville, Miss., and formerly of Mandan, died Nov. 4, 2000 in Biloxi, Miss. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Jeff Franko officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with full military rites provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 707 and the American Legion Post 40. Lloyd "Red" was born icon April 24k, 1932 in Mandan, the son of William and Lois (Wallace) Grosgebauer. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School. He attended Bismarck State College for two years and received his BS in Education at Ellendale Teachers College. He was in the Air Force from June 23, 1950 to Sept. 12, 1953, where he was an aerial photographer. He then joined the Army where he was a supply sergeant and retired at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1992, as a staff sergeant. Red took great pride in his home, yard and his many flowers. He had a smile for everyone and liked being surrounded by his many friends. He was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a founding member to the 91st Strategic Reconnaissance Wing ASSOC. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lourie, Lander, Wyo.; his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Mike Bartolic, Riverton, Wyo.; six grandchildren, Robert, Cory, Gordon and Brandy Grosgebauer, and Kristopher and Tyrone Shippen; his brother and sister-in-law, Garland and Tudy, Bismarck; his sister, Donna J. Miller, Mandan; and five nieces and nephews, LeeAnn Glatt, Russell Miller, Sheri Berger and Roger and Kenneth Grosgebauer. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Allen and Earl; and his brother-in-law, Dewey Miller. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Edward Hochhalter
BOWMAN -- Edward Hochhalter, 86, Bowman, died Nov. 10, 2000 in a Bowman care center. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MST Tuesday, at St. Charles Catholic Church, Bowman, with burial in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. He is survived by his wife, Mary; one daughter, Lottie Williams, Bismarck; two sons, Dale, Bowman, and Alan, Fargo; one sister, Martha Dockter, Eureka, S.D.; four brothers, Jacob, Wishek, Edwin, Cummings, Ga., Ted, and Ted and Walter, both of Wishek; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Martin Huschka
Martin Huschka, 66, Bismarck, a longtime Bismarck educator, died Nov. 10, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. A memorial mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, with the Rev. Thomas Kramer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home with a rosary and prayer service at 7 p.m. Martin was born icon July 2, 1934 to Lewis and Anna (Schmidt) Huschka near Belfield. He graduated from Belfield High School in 1951, and received teaching certificates from Dickinson State University. He taught at schools in Belfield, Dickinson, Regent, South Heart and Medora. In 1966, he graduated from Minot State University with a degree in special education and elementary education, and began teaching at Dickinson High School. He married icon Beverly Ann Agnew on July 3, 1971 in Dickinson. In 1974, he received his master's degree in psychology and learning disabilities from Kansas State University, Emporia. He moved to Bismarck in 1979 and became the assistant director of special education in 1989. He retired in 1997, but continued to work as a substitute teacher in the Bismarck area. He received many awards for his work, including the Outstanding Young Educator Award in 1967, and the Special Education Director of the Year in North Dakota for two consecutive years in 1996 and 1997. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and spending time with family, especially with his five-year-old granddaughter, Jazmine Huschka. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his sons, Robert, and Ryan (Jenny), both of Royal Oak, Mich.; his daughter, Tiffany (Jason) Thomas, Bismarck; his sisters, Balbina Roller, Barbara Dorval, Susan Rice, and Eva (Bob) Hlibichuk, all of Belfield, Agnes Smith, Katherine (John) Roller, Rose (Dan) Wanner, and Dorothy Fluhere, all of Dickinson, Mary Ann (Joe) Metzger, Worland, Wyo., and Angie (Ken) Nieskens, Glasgow, Mont.; his brothers, Al (Rose), Dickinson, and Matt (Sandy), Grand Prairie, Texas; and his granddaughters, Jazmine and Sabrina. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Pete; and his sister, Anna. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Ivan G. Loeffelbein
HALLIDAY -- Ivan G. Loeffelbein, 77, rural Halliday, died Nov. 8, 2000 in New Orleans, La. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday, at Golgotha Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Dodge. He is survived by his wife, Irene; two daughters, LuAnn Cogliser, Watertown, Conn., and Marilyn Lesmeister, Fargo; and one brother, Gerhardt, Minot. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Orville Nelson
Orville Nelson, 96, formerly of Bismarck, died Nov. 5, 2000 in a nursing facility in Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jake Kincaid officiating. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. He was born icon Sept. 9, 1904 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Frederick and Kristina (Danielson) Nelson. He married icon Winnifred Maxfield. They lived in Bismarck where they owned The Nelson Trading Post for 47 years. Orville is survived by three sons, Barry and Dan, both of Sacramento, Calif., and Rex, Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
