Nov. 12, 1950, in Bismarck, to Edward and Lorraine (Raab) Allmendinger. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nicole Venicky, one grandson and one granddaughter, all of Westerville, Ohio; his mother, Lorraine Allmendinger, Bismarck; one brother, Bill Allmendinger, LaVista, Neb.; two half sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Sam Spier, Dunnellon, Fla., and Betty and Edgar Binder, Bismarck; five nephews; two nieces; three grandnephews; and one grandniece. He was preceded in death by his father.
Bertha Schiermeister
Bertha Schiermeister, 86, Bismarck, died Nov. 11, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Thomas Marcis Jr. and Alwin Reimnitz officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation wil be held from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Bertha was born
on June 7, 1914 the daughter of John and Katherine (Eisenbeis) Bieber in Mott. She was raised and educated in Mott. On Oct. 9, 1938, she married
Jacob Schiermeister Jr. in Mott. After their marriage they lived on a farm from 1938-1958 west of Hazelton. In 1958, they moved to Bismarck where she resided until her death. She is survived by six daughters and four sons-in-law, Twila (Herman) Munsch, Violet (Gary) Eliason, both of Bismarck; Darlene (Leon) Philbrick, Garrison, Marlene (Dennis) Oster, Elgin, Jewel Schiermeister, Wilton, and Sherry Schiermeister, Cowpens, S.C.; three sons, and one daughter-in-law, Harvey, Pomona, Calif., Myron (Leota), Bismarck, and Steven, Elkin, N.C.; one brother, Otto (Corrine) Bieber, Davenport, Iowa; one sister, Hilda Muller, Carlsbad, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jacob; one grandson, David; and four brothers and four sisters. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

LaVerne Johnson, 79, 1977 E. Capitol Ave., died Nov. 18, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Boelter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Franko officiating. Jan. 7, 1921, at Linton, the daughter of Gust and Pauline (Walther) Bossert. She was raised and educated in Fort Yates, where she graduated from high school. She married
Francis Johnson, June 28, 1941, in Fort Yates. They worked in Richmond, Calif. until 1944, when they moved to Denver. They returned to North Dakota in 1949, and lived in Sterling. In 1962, they moved to Mandan, where they owned Johnson's Truck Stop, west of Mandan. Later, LaVerne worked for Mandan Public Schools as supervisor of the school food programs. They retired in 1980 and moved to Bismarck. LaVerne is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and John Samuelson, Washburn, Lois and Chuck Pope, Fargo, and Dale and Mike Jutz, LaFayette, Minn.; four sisters, Alma Walsh and Alvira Adams, both of Carson City, Nev., Thelma Maier, Mobridge, S.D., and Delores Duckett, Minden, Nev.; two brothers, Alton Bossert, West Covina, Calif., and James Bossert, McLaughlin, S.D.; six grandchildren, Chris and Scott Samuelson, Teri Johnson, Keri Hoss, Jeffrey and Ashley Jutz. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; her husband, in 1993; one sister; and one brother. The family prefers memorials to St. Alexius Hospice.

Adam Mathern, 90, Bismarck, died Nov. 18, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Marillac Manor Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burail will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue one hour before the service at Marillac Manor. April 25, 1910, at Napoleon, the son of Stanislaus and Elizabeth (Schwengler) Mathern. He was raised and educated in Napoleon. He married
Mary Volk, Oct. 18, 1932, at Solen. Adam worked for Jim Guthrie Contracting for two years. He then worked at St. Alexius Medical Center as a maintenance worker for 28 years. Adam enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing cards. He was a member of Church of St. Mary, United Commercial Travelers, Eagles Club and KC Club. He is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Stan and Marian Mathern, Oregon, Alan and Cora Mathern, New Mexico, and Andy and Diane Mathern, Arizona; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty and Warren Harding, New Mexico, Jean Jones, Washington, and Sally Hass, New Mexico; many special nieces and nephews; and many friends and staff members at Marillac Manor. Adam was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on March 18, 1995.

LINTON -- Leo Richter, 82, Linton, died Nov. 18, 2000, in the Linton hospital. He is survived by his wife, Luella; five sons, Tom and Dave, both of Bismarck, Paul, Linton, Jim, Lewistown, Mont., and Jon, Fargo; one daughter, Mary Spencer, Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Anne Werner, Bismarck, and Tillie Schmidt, Milwaukee. Edwin Skager
Edwin Skager, 76, Bismarck, died Nov. 17, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bismarck Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Burnett officiating. June 29, 1924, in Oliver County, the son of Frank and Bessie Skager (Koester), long-time farmers in Oliver County. Edwin was a life-long resident of North Dakota. In his span of years, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Philippine Liberation. During his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Award, Philippine LIberation Combat Infantry Badge, and Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. He was also a member of the 25th Division, and Technician Fifth Grade Sergeant. After his discharge from the service, Edwin taught rural school. He also worked in food service, where he spent many years. He worked at various restaurants and was a food service supervisor for 10 years at the Baptist Home. He worked for a number of years for McDowell's Big Boy, managing the KFC store on Sixth St. in Bismarck. He was also an LPN, graduating with the class of April 1950. Edwin married
Ella Schlittenhardt on Aug. 28, 1956, in Bismarck. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Bismarck Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Ella; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jeff Carr; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Wendy, and Brad and Laura; seven grandchildren, Scott, Tyler, Casey, Jeremy, Kari, Riley and Gena; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Astrid Cook, Lola Holznagel, Lela and John Hohbein, and Tom and Donna Dick; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Ruth, and Alvin and Linda; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one grandson.

Adam P. Wetzstein
Adam P. Wetzstein, 91, Mandan businessman and rancher who co-owned local theaters and the bus line, died Nov. 17, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. May 21, 1909, in Mandan, the son of Adam and Magdalen (Geiger) Wetzstein. He was raised and educated in Mandan and attended Mandan High School. He married
Stella Zwarych on June 3, 1936, in Mandan. Adam, along with his brothers, owned and operated the Palace Theater, Sun Down Drive-In, Mandan Theater, Red Trail Oil Co., McDonald Hotel, Mandan Transfer Co., and other real estate in the area. He was a life member of the Mandan Elks. Mr. Wetzstein and his brothers, more recently his sons, owned and operated the Wetzstein ranch raising registered quarter horses and registered Angus cattle. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, F. William "Buck" and Sandra, A. Steven "Duke" and Penny, and Michael J. and Karen, all of Mandan; one daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Ken Augustin, Columbia, Md.; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Stella, who died in 1994; six brothers, Frank, John, George, Bill, Christ and Joe; and three sisters, Emma, Elizabeth and Eva.
