Margaret Burrer
HERREID, S.D. -- Margaret Burrer, 72, Herreid, died Feb. 28, 2001, in a Herreid care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carlsen Funeral Home, Eureka. Further arrangements are pending at Carlsen Funeral Home, Eureka.
Margaret Chaussee
Margaret Chaussee, 83, Bismarck, died Feb. 27, 2001, in a Bismarck nursing home surrounded by family. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck. A prayer service will be held at 7 tonight at the funeral home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church. Margaret Lucille Archbold was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Sheldon, to John and Margaret (Shea) Archbold. With her seven brothers and sisters, she attended Sheldon rural school. Following graduation, Marg attended Interstate Business College in Fargo and worked as a secretary.
On June 10, 1939, Marg married Al Chaussee. Marg and Al moved to Bismarck in 1946. In 1953 they moved their family to a new home out in the country on Meadowlark Hill. The Chaussee home was "Grand Central Station" for many relatives and friends. Extra guests would often appear for breakfast and supper, and all were welcomed.
Marg made time for her family, many close friendships, her bridge groups, church activities, managing the BJC Bookstore from 1967 to 1973, the gift shop at Dakota Zoo and later owning and operating the "Little Red House," a consignment craft shop.
Marg touched many with her kindness, gentleness and generosity. She will be greatly missed, as will her melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies. We are richer for having shared her life.
She is survived by five sons and three daughters-in-law, Dan and Ginnie, Bill, and Jerry and Sue, all of Bismarck, Bob, Auburn, Wash., and Paul and Deb, Lawrence, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lois Nelson, Bismarck, and Myrtle Adamek, Minneapolis, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; three brothers; and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Dakota Zoological Society, St. Mary's Alumni Foundation or BSC Foundation.
Vincent Conklin
GARRISON -- Vincent Conklin, 85, Garrison, died Feb. 28, 2001, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at United Church of Christ, Garrison, with burial in Garrison Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene; one son, Tom, Douglas; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. (Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison)
Bernard Cysewski
NEW TOWN -- Bernard Cysewski, 83, New Town, died Feb. 28, 2001, in the New Town nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, New Town, with burial in Van Hook Cemetery, near New Town.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; one daughter, Linda Opstad, Grand Forks; one son, James, St. Paul, Minn.; and five grandchildren. (Johnson Funeral Home, New Town)
Raymond Griffin
WYNDMERE -- Raymond A. Griffin, 86, Wyndmere, died Feb. 28, 2001, in Wahpeton. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, Wyndmere, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; five sons, John, South Heart, Robert and Dan, both of Wyndmere, and Paul and Michael, both of Wahpeton; three daughters, Karen Griffin, Bismarck, Lois Griffin, Mooreton, and Margaret Griffin, Decatur, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; his sister, Helen Goerndt, Breckenridge, Minn.; and three brothers, Jack and Cleo, both of Wahpeton, and Don, Coos Bay, Ore. Paul Haider
Paul H. Haider, 68, 1007 Tower Place, Mandan, died Feb. 28, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Paul was born March 12, 1932, in rural Sioux County, to Mike and Martha (Vetter) Haider. He was raised and educated in rural Shields. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later studied auto body and painting at Wahpeton. For four years he was an auto body repairman in Montana, was self-employed and worked at the Cadillac dealership in Billings. He owned and operated a store and bar in Shields for two years. Paul loved the country and was a successful farmer and rancher in the Selfridge and Shields area most of his life. On July 12, 1955, he married Elaine M. Barnett in Tioga and together they raised 11 children.
He was a member of Bismarck Veterans of Foreign Wars Club.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Dian and Hank LaBore, Lincoln, Laurie and Thomas Clark, Aurora, Colo., Maureen Haider, Fullerton, Calif., and Janel Haider, Mandan; six sons and five daughters-in-law, Ronald, Edwin and Carol, and Linda Haider, all of Denver, Joel and Cindy, Agate, Colo., Arlin and Kelli, Lincoln, Dwight and Samantha, Littleton, Colo., and Keith, Fullerton, Calif.; four sisters and five brothers-in-law, Lucille and Floyd Borchert, and Ilene and Robert Lipp, all of Mobridge, S.D., Mike Murphy, Shields, Judy and Ed Hellman, Rapid City, S.D., and Carol and Joe Waliser, Peidmont, S.D.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jake and Della, Belfield, Robert, Mobridge, Alyce, Glasgow, Mont., and Joe, Kalispel, Mont.; 25 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ted; one sister, LaVonne Murphy; and one son, Douglas. The family prefers memorials to St. Alexius Home Care and Hospice.
Thomas Hammel
DICKINSON -- Thomas M. Hammel, 82, Dickinson, died Feb. 27, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Dickinson.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; five stepdaughters, Joyce Hinsz, Bismarck, Nora Loewen, Apple Valley, Minn., Verna Focht, Dickinson, and Marlene and Theresa, both of Australia; one stepson, Donald Gerber, Dickinson; two brothers, Herman, Staples, Minn., and Wilbert, Bismarck; three sisters, Clara Guenther, Colorado Springs, Colo., Catherine Seidler, Bismarck, and Opal Harris, Denver; two grandchildren; and 14 step-grandchildren. Clarence Johnson
COOPERSTOWN -- Clarence Leo Johnson, 79, Cooperstown, died Feb. 26, 2001, in the Cooperstown hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. George Catholic Church, Cooperstown, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three sons, Leo and Ronald, both of Cooperstown, and Steve, Luverne; one daughter, Jeanne Reinhart, Lincoln; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Edwin and Leonard, both of Cooperstown. (Quam-Plaisted Funeral Home, Cooperstown)

Clifford Moser
Cllifford D. Moser, 69, formerly of Bismarck, died Feb. 26, 2001, in a Westlake, Ohio, hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home, Anniston, Ala., with burial in Anniston Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; four daughters, Elisabeth Jupe, Germany, Charlotte Isaacs, Michigan, Belinda Craven, Virginia, and Cathy Hamby, Weaver, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eunice Hahn, Bismarck, and Elaine Staggs, California; and one brother, Ervin Moser, Bismarck.
Lydia Peterson
Lydia "Alice" Peterson, 83, Wenatchee, Wash., formerly of Bismarck and Baldwin, died Feb. 25, 2001, in a Wenatchee care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tim Jenks officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Baldwin Cemetery, Baldwin.
Visitation will be held from1 to 9 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
Alice was born at her parents' home north of Baldwin March 2, 1917, the daughter of Jacob and Rosa (Opp) Spitzer, German immigrants from South Russia. She received her education in Burleigh County in a one-room schoolhouse.
Alice married Oscar "Bud" Peterson in 1942, in Mandan. They made their home on a farm north of Baldwin, farming and raising poultry for Armour and Co. until 1960, when they moved to Portland, Ore. They lived in that area until 1980, when Bud retired and they moved back to the Baldwin farm site. After his death in 1981, Alice moved to Bismarck, living there until she experienced poor health in 1993, and moved to Wenatchee, Wash., to be closer to her daughter.
Alice was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wenatchee, and always enjoyed growing flowers in her yard and doing ceramics for herself and as gifts for her family and friends. She had worked alongside Bud while farming, during the years they grew broiler chickens for Armour and Co. and in various businesses in the Portland area.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Verla "June" and Don Van Osten, East Wenatchee, Wash.; one son and daughter-in-law, Myron and Rena, Vancouver, Wash.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Sheila McCann and Tony Semerad, Salt Lake City, and Trina and Steve Woolf, USAF stationed in Fairbanks, Ala.; two grandsons, Troy Peterson and Brent McCann, Vancouver, Wash.; two great-granddaughters, Ashlie and Nicole Peterson, Vancouver, Wash.; one great-grandson, Nicholas Semerad, Salt Lake City; two brothers-in-law, Walter Kirkey Jr., Bismarck, and Kenneth Kirkey, Washburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents; one brother, Reynard Spitzer, Wilton; two sisters, Bertha Franklund, Bismarck, and Emelie Niedermeier, Portland, Ore.; and three sisters and one brother in infancy.
Adolph Polensky
DICKINSON -- Adolph Polensky, 87, Dickinson, died Feb. 28, 2001, in a Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery.
