HETTINGER -- Bernice G. Quamme, 83, Hettinger, died June 3, 2000, in a Lake Crystal, Minn. hospital. She is survived by two daughters, Marcelyn Door and Charlotte Meschke, both of Rapidan, Minn.; three sons, Edward, Hettinger, Robert, East Grand Forks, Minn., and Lynn, Grand Forks; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gratia Stock, Estherville, Iowa. Bernard Walsh
Bernard "Bud" Walsh, 64, died June 5, 2000, in his home after a 13-month battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ascension Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, at 10 a.m. Monday. Bernard was born Sept. 10, 1935, in Duluth, Minn., to Harvey and Jane (Moore) Walsh. After graduating from Chisholm High School in Chisholm, Minn., Bud joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. Returning home, Bud attended Hibbing Community College and Bemidji State College where he received a degree in business administration. Bud worked for 35 years for the State of North Dakota in various positions that included teaching at the State Industrial School, Department of Transportation and the Office of Management and Budget. He served on the Mandan Legion Baseball Committee from 1979-1986, and was active in the Mandan Elks. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Jennifer, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bernajean and Ken Matthias, Texas, and Brenda and Darryl Heck, Eden Prairie, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Kim Azure and her husband, Rodney, Bismarck; three stepsons, Rodney and his wife, Jo Roy, New Mexico, Michael and his wife, Yevette Roy, Virginia, and Travis and Sandi Roy, Washington; six brothers, Michael, James, Thomas, John and Mark Walsh, all of Minnesota, and Terrance Walsh, Louisiana; and three sisters, Patricia Walsh, Arizona, Kathleen Bernard, Texas, and Cheryl Techer, Minnesota. Ottellia Wentz
Ottellia "Tillie" Wentz, 85, Bismarck, died June 5, 2000, in a local nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Ottelia "Tillie" Wentz was born Nov. 27, 1914, at Eureka, S.D., in McPherson County, to John and Katie (Libus) Holzworth. She was raised and educated in Eureka. In 1935, she moved with her family to a farm near Streeter. Tillie married Elmer Wentz on July 21, 1938, at Napoleon. In 1968, she moved with her husband and family to Bismarck. In July 1999 she became a resident of Elm Crest Care Center in New Salem. In October 1999 she became a resident of St. Vincent's Care Center in Bismarck. Tillie was a member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed yardwork and gardening, and especially loved baby-sitting children. She is survived by her husband, Elmer; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Betty and Roger Becker, and Ed Vetter; her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kat Wentz; four grandsons, Michael Becker, Toby Jenner and Robert and Brandon Vetter; one granddaughter, Bethany Vetter, Bismarck; one great-grandson, Lukas, Bismarck; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Arlene Conitz, Bismarck, and Alvina and Charles Hamel, Napoleon; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Eugene and Delores Holzworth, Violet Holzworth, and Edna Holzworth, all of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. Tillie was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Shirley Vetter; two baby sons, Norman and James Wentz; her grandson, Brian Becker; two sisters, Rose Holzworth and Edna Kapp; and four brothers, Willie, Edwin, Reuben and Alvin Holzworth. Ella Bender, 92, Bismarck, died June 8, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Todd Hylden officiating. Burial will be in Washburn Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service at Eastgate Funeral Service. Ella Bender was born Dec. 23, 1907 at Tripp, S.D., the daughter of John and Carolina (Hirsch) Bender. In 1916, she moved with her parents to Washburn, where she was educated. In April 1935, she moved to Lodi, Calif., then to Oakland, Calif., where she worked various jobs. She attended nursing school and did nursing until her retirement. She was lovved by many and will be missed. She is survived by one brother, Albert Bender and those who cared for her. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, John and Carolina Bender; four brothers, Julius, Emil, Harold and Edwin; and three sisters, Amelia Bender, Helmina Berger and Mathilda Olson.
