Robert N. Huey
Robert N. Huey, 85, Walker Place, Minn., died June 24, 2000 in Minneapolis. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery, Grand Forks, later this summer. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Robert was born on April 29, 1915 in Westhope. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He graduated from Bottineau High School in 1932. He attended North Dakota School of Forestry and Jamestown College, obtaining an A.B. degree in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 272nd Ordinance Service Battalion in North Africa. He married Muriel Ekness on Dec. 2, 1945 at Grand Forks. He attended the University of North Dakota under the GI Bill. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Commerce Field Service and the U.S. Department of Census, and was in charge of the 1950 Census in the Fargo district. He was later employed by the Fargo Chamber of Commerce as an industrial development specialist. In 1959, he became the Assistant Director of the North Dakota Economic Development Commission and was appointed Director by Gov. William Guy in 1961. In 1965, he joined the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs as Officer-in-Charge of the Industrial Development Field Office in Chicago, Ill. He retired in 1982 and moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1996, he moved to Minneapolis. At his death, he was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. During his lifetime, he served as an elder in Presbyterian churches in Fargo and Bismarck, and Morton Grove, Ill. and as a Deacon in the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls, where he was active in the refugee resettlement. He was laso a delegate to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA in 1982. He was a member of Kiwanis since 1948 and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Muriel (Ekness) Huey, Minneapolis; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Marcia, Bismarck, and Timothy and Sandra, Davenport, Iowa; two daughters and one son-in-law, Pamela and Paul Walsh, Edina, Minn., and Paula Fox, St. Louis Park, Minn.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. J. Way and Nora Huey and brothers, James, Burkett and William Huey; and one sister, Mary Huey. Robert will be remembered lovingly by his extended family for his legacy of movies and photographs documenting every family event and gathering. He was an avid history buff with a special interest in the Civil War. The family prefers memorials to Jamestown College or the National Parkinson Foundation Inc., Miami, FL. JoAnn Johnson
UNDERWOOD -- JoAnn Johnson, 70, Underwood, died June 26, 2000 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck. Public visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. JoAnn was born May 21, 1930, the daughter of Clarence and Edyth (Thyberg) Yunker of rural Washburn. She married Melvin Johnson of Washburn, he died in 1984. She is survived by one son, Raymond, Fargo; two sisters, Vada Heid, Hazen and Patsy Yunker, Washburn; four brothers, O.W. Yunker and Curtis Yunker, both of Washburn, Gerry Yunker, Bismarck and Terry Yunker, Kalispell, Montana. In addition to her husband, JoAnn was preceded in death by two children, June and Robert Yunker; and two brothers, Byron and John Yunker. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Wayne Knutson
STANTON -- Wayne "Jigger" Knutson, 31, Stanton, died June 26, 2000. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton. He is survived by his mother, Norma Knutson, Minot; his father, Kenneth Knutson, Stanton; two brothers, Darwin and Glenn Knutson, both of Stanton; three sisters, Carla McKay, Stanton, Valerie Rathjen, Hazen, and Brenda Blair, Las Vegas, Nev.; and his grandparents, Thomas and Daisy Shaw, Minot, and Fred Navratil, Stanton. Diane Liuska
WING -- Diane Liuska, 54, Wing, died June 26, 2000 after a lengthy struggle with cancer, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wing, with the Rev. Muriel Lippert Schauer officiating. Burial will be in Ahola Cemetery, Wing. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Diane Faye Morton was born Dec. 24, 1945 in Robinson, the daughter of William Howard and Edna (Madson) Morton. She graduated from Robinson High School in 1963 and Valley City State College in 1966. She married David Liuska on June 16, 1972. Diane retired from teaching in 1998 after 32 years of teaching. She taught five years at Saxvik Elementary School in Bismarck, three years at Robinson and 24 years at Wing. Diane enjoyed teaching and influenced the lives of many people. Diane was very active in the Wing Education Association, the North Dakota Education Association, and the Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamme (Past President). She was a member of the Francis J. Harty American Legion Auxiliary Unit 65 of Wing for 28 years, serving as president and secretary. In 1989, she served as Fifth District President. She has held 10 chairmanships in the North Dakota State Legion Auxiliary. In 1999 she served as President Elect of the N.D. State Auxiliary and was to be the State President for 2000-2001. Diane was a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wing, Wing Horse Club, Finnish Young People's Society, and a past member of the Wing Homemaker's, Wing Community Days, and Activities Director of Wing Farmers' Union Local. Her favorite activities were reading, dancing and visiting. Diane is survived by her husband, David, Wing; two sons, Davin, Wing, and Brazil, South America, and Dwane, Seattle, Wash.; her mother, Edna (Madson) Morton, Golden Manor, Steele; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Arlene Morton, Britton, S.D.; two sisters, Eula Reuschlein, Robinson, and Marjorie Krieger, Jamestown; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and personal friends. She was preceded in death by her father, William H. Morton; one brother-in-law, and one nephew. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Audrey V. Manson
BELCOURT -- Audrey V. Manson, 68, Belcourt, died June 22, 2000 in a Belcourt health care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Belcourt, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by her son, Ron, Valley City; her daughters, Kathy Hiebert, Fargo, Barbara Schmitt, Laurel, Mont., Julie Parisien, Belcourt; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Georgeline Longie and Delores Logue, both of Belcourt; and one brother, Joe Turcotte, Belcourt. Constance Mortenson
WILLISTON -- Constance "Tissa" Mortenson, 87, Williston, died June 26, 2000 in a Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Faith United Methodist Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery. She is survived by four sons, Max Overstreet, Seattle, Marlin Overstreet, Billings, Mont., Dennis Overstreet, Williston, and Clint Overstreet, Hayden, Colo.; five daughters, Candy Huwe, Cleo Lowe, and Mavis Arnson, all of Williston, and Alpha Martin, Glasgow, Mont., and Rachel Crusch, Fairfield, Mont.; one brother, Floyd Monson Sr., Alexander; 35 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Lydia Oster
Lydia Oster, 92, Bismarck, died June 25, 2000 in Bismarck. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Friday, at United Methodist Church, Hebron, with the Revs. Larry Ouhl and Clyde Leimberer officiating. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. MDT Thursday, and 9-11 a.m. MDT Friday both at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be said at 7 p.m. MDT Thursday evening at the funeral home. Lydia was born on Sept. 12, 1907 in Kulm to Henry and Wilhelmina (Fehr) Bickel. She was raised and educated at Tuttle. She married John Oster on Feb. 8, 1929 at Tuttle. Following their marriage, they moved to Hebron. Lydia enjoyed gardening, crocheting and making quilts and afghans. She was a loving mother who looked forward to the visits of her children and grandchildren always making sure she had buns, kuchen and cookies ready for them. In April of 1988, she moved to Bismarck where she has resided since. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hebron and the WSWS. She is survived by two sons, Edwin (Loretta), Miles City, Mont., and Harold (Eunice), Goldendale, Wash.; three daughters, Eleanor (Art) Kitzan, Bismarck, Shirley Oster, Bismarck, and Alice Senne, Valley City; two daughters-in-law, Clarice Oster, Fargo, and Rosemary Oster, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and three brothers, Ed Bickel, Tuttle, Adam Bickel, Utah, and Henry Hein, Wing. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; three sons, one daughter, two grandchildren; one sister and one brother. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

MAKOTI -- Grant Shaw, 90, Makoti, died June 26, 2000 in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti, with burial at 1:30 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot. He is survived by his wife, Grace; his daughter, Pat Beyer, Bismarck; his son, Ken Shaw, Surrey; one brother, Thomas Shaw, Minot; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Verdeen Skarphol
SOURIS -- Verdeen Skarphol, 73, Souris, died June 20, 2000 in a Westhope nursing home. Services were held on June 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Souris. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery, Souris. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; four daughters, Annette Doman, Geneva, Ill.; Diane Boll, Newburg, N.D., Julie Bonsness, Hazen, and Joan Inman, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mabel Brandvold, Betsey Tallon, and Agnes Lindstrom, all of Bottineau. Betty J. Camp
BELFIELD -- Betty J. Camp, 72, Belfield, died June 26, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. MDT Friday at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, with burial in St. Jacob's Cemetery, Gorham. She is survived by four sons, Carl, Amidon, Roger, Mandan, Robert, Hayes, Mont., and Arthur, Belfield; two daughters, Lila Frank, Belfield and Rachel Klym, Richardton; 24 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don Schroeder, Phillipsburg, Mont., Tom Schroeder, Deer Lodge, Mont., and Jim Mannion, Kalispell, Mont.; and three sisters, Elsie Shelton, Missoula, Mont., Jean Monaco, Anaconda, Mont., and Judy Wise, Boise, Idaho.
