Marie Davison, 93, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died Jan. 26, 2000 in a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Virginia M. Gruver
Virginia M. Gruver, 95, died June 19, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Baptist Home Chapel, Bismarck. She is survived by her children, Martha Benedict, Fayetteville, Ark., Daniel Gruver, Bismarck, and Grace Jones, Lemming, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Arthur Heupel
ELGIN -- Arthur Heupel, 85, Elgin, died June 21, 2000 in Elgin. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Monday, at Hope Conservative Congregational Church, Elgin. Further arrangements are pending with Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig.

Leon M. Lothspeich
Leon M. Lothspeich, 64, Mandan, North Dakota, died, June 21, 2000 at Fargo, North Dakota. Services will be held at noon today, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan with the Rev. Cyprian Meier, officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Leon was born Jan. 25, 1936 at Wales, N.D., to Edward and Rose (Dirkes) Lothspeich. He was raised and educated in Wales. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1954 to September 1956 and was proud of the fact that all nine of the Lothspeich brothers served in the U.S. Military. He married Marlys Debing in South Dakota and from that marriage Shelley was born. Leon owned A&A Welding Supply for many years before selling it to American Welding Supply and becoming their store manager. He enjoyed his lake home on Marion Lake, Minn. from 1974 to 1986 and in recent years enjoyed working and going to the casino. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Ron Goroski, West Fargo; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Larry Hagen, Williston; six brothers and five sisters-in-law, Don, Frank and Mary, all of Fargo, Lyle and Iris, Langdon, Marlin and Pat, Park River, Harold and Rosemary, and Edward and Irene, all of Dickinson. Leon was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gerald and Eugene. (Perry Funeral Home)

Jesse James Matthews-Lindberg
NEW TOWN -- Jesse James Matthews-Lindberg, infant son of Frank Lindberg and Betty Jo Matthews, New Town, died June 21, 2000 in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church, New Town, with burial in Matthews' Cemetery. He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Dominique, New Town, and Clay, Minneapolis; and his grandparents, Byron and Joanne Matthews, New Town, and Darrie and Sharon Lindberg, New Town. Marie Roth
GLEN ULLIN -- Marie Roth, 98, Glen Ullin, died June 21, 2000. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hebron, with the Rev. Jean E. Rosewall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. MDT today at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron with a prayer service at 7 p.m. MDT tonight at the funeral home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Marie Roth was born on Feb. 11, 1902 in South Russia to Peter and Rosina (Krenzler) Kessler. Marie came to the United States of America in 1903 with her family and they homesteaded 19 miles north of Glen Ullin. In 1923, they moved into Hebron. Marie met Emil Roth. They were married on July 2, 1925. Following their marriage, they resided in Hebron. Marie was known for her tatting and baking abilities. Emil died in 1966. Marie entered the Marian Manor Healthcare Center in Glen Ullin in January of 1993, where she has resided since. Marie accepted Christ as her personal Savior as a young girl and stayed true to him to the end. She was a member of the Guiding Light at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hebron. She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Clarence and Mildred, Bismarck, Vernon and Freida, Bismarck, and Nan Roth, Newport News, Va.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil; one son, Merlin; three brothers and two sisters. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

Mathilda Schmidt
Mathilda Schmidt, 75, died June 21, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. At her request there will be no services. She is survived by favorite nephew, Lyle Dietrich and his family; her nieces, Carol Fish and Mary Luna; one sister, Catherine Goldader; and her brothers, Joseph and Peter Dietrich. Mary Schumacher
SYKESTON -- Mary Schumacher, 76, Sykeston, died June 21, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Calvary Baptist Church, Carrington. Further arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Willis W. Westman
HARVEY -- Willis W. Westman, 86, Harvey, formerly of Fessenden, died June 22, 2000 in a Harvey nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending with Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden.

Louise Dietz
Louise Dietz, 83, 702 Third St. S.W., Mandan, died June 23, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Christian Mothers rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Sunday, and a Women of the Moose Ritual will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by a parish vigil at 8. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Monday until service time. Louise was born Feb. 2, 1917, in Glen Ullin, the daughter of John and Mary (Krasowski) Duletski. She was raised and educated in Belfield. On Oct. 22, 1935, she married Andrew J. Dietz in Belfield. They both farmed together until 1953. Louise was a self-employed seamstress most of her life. She was also employed as a cook at various restaurants in Mandan. Amongst her interests, Louise was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing cards, bingo, dancing, fishing, canning jellies, fruits and vegetables. She also enjoyed her vegetable and flower garden. Her great pride was having family get-togethers. She will be missed and remembered as a very special person. Louise was an active member of the Golden Age Club, Women of the Moose Chapter 1374, Christian Mothers of Christ the King, Quilters Club, Women of the Eagles and St. Maria Verein. She is survived by five sons and two daughters-in-law, Casimir, Larry, and Terry and Sandy, all of Mandan, Vincent, San Diego, Calif., and James and Joann, Elgin; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Theresa Wead and Delores Beckler, both of Mandan, Cecelia and Dan Schroeder, Butte, Mont., Judy and Steve Kelly, Cedar City, Utah, and Gloria and Dallas Wade, Wheatland, Wyo.; 28 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Casmer, Belfield; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Helen and Harold Oderman, and Josephine Kordonowy, all of Belfield, Emelia and James Kreitinger, Bismarck, and Mary Luijkx, Modesto, Calif.; one son-in-law, Roy Putnam, Evansville, Wyo.; and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, who died May 9, 1989; her parents; one daughter, Mary Ann Putnam; four sisters, Lena, Frances, Eva and Stella; five grandchildren; two sons-in-law; and her very special friend, Ed Heinrich.

Barbara Dockter
Barbara Dockter, 62, Bismarck, died June 23, 2000, in her home. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Joseph J. Dorscher
Joseph J. Dorscher, 60, 8751 93rd Street S.E., Bismarck, died, June 21, 2000, in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. A Rosary followed by a vigil begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and will continue one hour before services at the church. Joseph was born June 28, 1939, at Linton, to Joseph and Julia (Paul) Dorscher. He was raised and educated in Linton. When he was 15 his family moved to Bismarck. He married Cindy Knock in Bismarck. He then worked for Bismarck Implement as a truck driver for twenty-seven years. He married Vianna Crawford on November 28, 1975, in Bismarck. He owned and operated Dorscher Sandblasting. Joseph enjoyed fishing and participated in several Governor's Cups in North Dakota and Saskatchewan. He also sponsored area racecars and participated as a fan. He is survived by his wife, Vianna; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lauri and Glenn Stevens, New Bury, Massachusetts, and Julie and Eric Folendorf, Lincoln; three sons, Barry Dorscher, Seoul, Korea, and James and Jason Nelson both of Bismarck; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Evelyn Dorscher, Mesa, Ariz., Edward and Pat Dorscher, Milwaukee, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and his special fishing buddy, Mel Berkland. Joseph was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; his brother, Ray; and his sister, Darlene. The family prefers memorials to the Salvation Army and the Child's Hope Learning Center.

Alvin S. Klaudt
WALKER, S.D. -- Alvin S. Klaudt, 65, Walker, died June 22, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, McIntosh, with burial in McIntosh Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two sons, Ted, Walker, and Scott, Corsica, S.D.; two daughters, Vicki Barnes, Lemmon, and Bonnie Glines, Watertown; his mother, Martha Klaudt, Aberdeen; three sisters, Pearl Ivers, Brookings, Gladys Bakker, Texarkana, Texas, and Gloria Kline, Aberdeen; and seven grandchildren. Philomine A. Novotny
DICKINSON -- Philomine A. Novotny, 83, Dickinson, died June 23, 2000, in a Dickinson care center. Arrangements are pending at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Paul Owens
Paul Owens, 55, Bismarck, died June 21, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jake Kincaid officiating. Paul was born Dec. 25, 1944, in Cumberland, Md. After growing up near Philadelphia, he received a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of Michigan in 1971 and a masters degree from Moorhead State in 1982. In 1975, Paul married Sally Dilworth in West Virginia. He worked for Appalachian Power before moving to Bismarck in 1985. Paul worked for Montana Dakota Utilities in Bismarck, and was the human resources manager at the time of his death. Paul also gave much of his time serving on committees at First Presbyterian Church. He loved spending time at the ocean and working in his garden. He was also a great bridge player. His intelligence, straight-forwardness and sense of humor are unforgettable. He is survived by his children, Dan and Lauren; one brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Nancy Owens, Delaware; several aunts and cousins; and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Phillip; and his wife, Sally. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Presbyterian Church. (Boelter Funeral Home)

SYKESTON -- Mary Schumacher, 76, Sykeston, died June 21, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, Carrington, with burial in Coleharbor Cemetery. She is survived by four sons, Ronald, Sykeston, Gary, Howard Lake, Minn., and Eldon and Don, both of Jamestown; one daughter, Kathleen Halzle, Langdon; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Edwin, Minot, and Paul, Marion; and six sisters, Orbella Hauser, Underwood, Esther McCray, Coleharbor, Minnie Taylor, Minot, Julie Hedden, Newark, N.J., Anna Dubin, Coleharbor, and Edith Severe, Seattle. Emil A. Seeger
Emil A. Seeger, 96, Bismarck, died June 23, 2000, in his home. Arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Willis W. Westman
HARVEY -- Willis W. Westman, 86, Harvey, died June 22, 2000, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Harvey, with burial in Manfred Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Emma; one stepdaughter, Geraldine Spah, Bismarck; two stepsons, Kenneth Johnson, Fessenden, and Ronald Johnson, Downers Grove, Ill.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. Arthur Heupel
ELGIN -- Arthur Heupel, 85, Elgin, died June 21, 2000, in Elgin. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Monday at Hope Conservative Congregational Church, Elgin, with the Rev. Ellis Ryherd officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, David Heupel, Julie Heupel, Chris Ohr, Jon Woodruff, Jennifer Woodruff and Krista Heupel. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig. Arthur was born Jan. 15, 1915, to Jacob Heupel Sr. and Katherine (Boehler) Heupel at the Heupel farm north of Elgin. He attended country school near their farm. He helped on the home farm until 1941, when he moved to a farm south of New Leipzig. On March 21, 1943, he was united in marriage to Martha Kirsch. They farmed and raised their family near New Leipzig. In 1980, Arthur and Martha retired and moved to Elgin. Arther had a hard time retiring at first because he couldn't take any of his cows to town with him. He spent the last few years gardening, helping with fencing at the farm and sometimes helping work cattle. Arthur is survived by his wife, Martha; two sons, Elmer and Diane, New Leipzig, and Donald and Janet, Algona, Iowa; two daughters, Luella and Chuck Ohr, Glendale, Ariz., and Delores and Mike Woodruff, West Fargo; six grandchildren, David and Kristen Heupel, Julie Heupel, Chris Ohr, Jon Woodruff, Jennifer Woodruff and Krista Heupel; one great-grandchild, Emily Heupel; one brother, Jacob Heupel, Jr., Bismarck; and one sister, Elsie Blumhardt, Elgin. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Emanuel and Oscar; and two sisters, Lydia Ruff and Alvina Schutz.
