Frances E. Silbernagel
GLEN ULLIN -- Frances E. Silbernagel, 66, Glen Ullin, died June 13, 2000, in the Elgin hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m.¤ Friday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with the Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 6-7 tonight at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a vigil will begin at 7 tonight. Frances Elizabeth Thomas was born Sept. 24, 1933, on a farm near Cannon Ball, to Jacob and Mary (Koch) Thomas. She was raised and educated in the Cannon Ball and Solen areas. In 1954 she moved to Bismarck and began working at St. Alexius Hospital. She married Joseph Silbernagel, May 26, 1962, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. In 1975 they moved to Arizona, and in 1976 they moved to Dickinson, where they built a home and Fran worked as a seamstress for Korte Interiors. In 1986 the family moved to a ranch south of Glen Ullin where they have lived since. Fran enjoyed every part of ranching, loving her horses and cattle. She was very talented with her hands and enjoyed gardening, painting, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was an excellent German cook. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; three daughters and one son-in-law, Yvonne and Jeff Haugen, Dickinson, Jolene Silbernagel and Charlene Silbernagel, both of Bismarck; three grandchildren, Jesse, Daniel and Weston; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Hildegard Moos, Beulah, and Irene and Jim Miller, Bismarck; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Bernard Thomas, Bismarck, and Paul and Leona Thomas, Solen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Daniel; one granddaughter, Amanda Lee; one brother, Leonard; one sister and brother-in-law, Maggie and Lloyd Taylor; one brother-in-law, Elmer Moos; one niece, Laura; and one grandniece, Little Laura.

Irene L. Thorp
Irene L. Thorp, 63, died June 13, 2000 of COPD at her home in Driscoll. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Van Vechten Crane officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Irene was born May 25, 1937, in Bismarck to Harry Roberson and Buryl (Craven) Roberson Doehle. She attended school in Menoken, Bismarck, Colorado, Montana, Washington and Missouri. She married Arthur H. Thorp, July 12, 1958, in Gettysburg, S.D. They lived in Bismarck and Minot until Arthur began working for the Boeing Company and was transfered several times. After moving 31 times they finally bought and settled on a portion of the E. Doehle farm. Arther still resides there. Irene worked in the medical field in various states and enjoyed gardening, painting, softball, bowling and being around horses. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband; her mother, Buryl Doehle; one daughter and son-in-law, Lynette and Leslie Leier, Velva; one son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Stephanie, Moffit; one daughter-in-law, Janice Thorp, Tacoma, Wash.; four granddaughters, Justina, Lyrissa, Renatta and Medora; six grandsons, James, Kaleb, Jacob, Chad, Dustin and Nathan; three great-grandsons, Cody, Brandon and Nicholas; four brothers and one sister-in-law, Sam Roberson, Del Ray Roberson, and James and Joni Roberson, all of Great Falls, Mont., and Harold Roberson, Manchester, Mont.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Avis and C.J. Johnson, Great Falls, Harriet and Tony Heinert, Vaughn, Mont., and Melody Doehle, Seattle; two sisters-in-law, Bernice and Mel Doerr, Bismarck, and Violet and Minor Zearley, Mandan; and two brothers-in-law, Vernon and Patty Thorp, Aurora, Colo., and Harold parkin, Huff; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Roberson, in 1956; her stepfather, Ernest Doehle, in 1996; two sons, Jerald R. Thorp in 1975, and Arthur H. Thorp Jr. in 1991.

Ann F. Wentz
ESMOND -- Ann F. Wentz, 86, Esmond, died June 12, 2000, in a Billings, Mont. nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by one son, Ole; two daughters, Bernardine Sullivan, Glasgow, Mont., and Bonnie Heisler, Sabin, Minn.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Adeline Anderson, Esmond, and Aurelia Walz and Hildegard Garman, both of Kenmare.

Erna Zink
CARRINGTON -- Erna Zink, 91, Carrington, died June 13, 2000, in the Carrington nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Federated Church, Carrington, with burial in Carrington Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Richard, Carrington, and Merlin, Baker, Mont.; four daughters, Jorene Larson, Crookston, and Joyce Paulson, Judy Greene and Marlene Anderson, all of Fargo; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harland Petersen, Carrington; and one sister, Ruth Dodd, Colfax, Wash. Inez M. Crimmins
Inez M. Crimmins, 89, formerly of Mandan, died June 14, 2000 in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Bernice Ferderer
Bernice Ulmer Ferderer was born in Hazen on Nov. 15, 1916 died in a Santa Barbara, Calif. hospital on May 31, 2000 after a lengthy bout with cancer. Bernece graduated from Bismarck High School in 1934. She also attended the Minneapolis College of Business. While a resident of the Bismarck/Mandan area, she was employed as a secretary for Rue Construction and Gold Seal Glass Wax Corporation. During World War II, Bernece joined the United States Marine Corps and was one of the first enlisted women to be chosen to attend officer's training school. She received her commission after attending Hunter's College in New York City and was honorably discharged a captain after four years active duty. Bernece was employed by Waite Phillips Oil Company in Los Angeles as a personal executive secretary to Mr. Phillips. In 1953, she married Dominic "Duke" Ferderer, originally of Mandan. They moved to Santa Barbara, Calif. where Bernece was employed as an executive secretary at Raytheon Corporation. She retired in 1970. Bernece was preceded in death by her father and mother, Emanuel "Boss" Ulmer and Cora Ulmer; her brothers, Walter J. Ulmer and Leland G. "Chub" Ulmer. She is survived by her husband, Dominic "Duke" Ferderer, Santa Barbara; her sisters, Dolores Sorenson and her husband, Douglas, Minneapolis; Corajean Hagen and husband, Dale, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; a brother, Robert Ulmer and his wife, Nancy, Santa Barbara; her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Walter Ulmer, Miles City, Mont., and Mrs. Leland Ulmer, Mandan. She was a kind and caring soul and will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Edward F. Krause
Aberdeen, S.D. -- Edward F. Krause, 87, Aberdeen, died June 12, 2000 in rural Warner. Services will be held at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, Aberdeen, with burial in Warner Township Cemetery. He is survived by four daughters, Norma Jean Fuhrman, Bismarck, Donna Hoellein, Mansfield, S.D., Ellen Dunker, State Center, Iowa, and Colleen Schmidt, Zap; three brothers, William, Groton, S.D., and Otto and Alvin, both of Aberdeen; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Angela Faith Kuntz
Angela Faith Kuntz was born June 13, 2000 and died on June 13, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery. She is survived by her mother, Lennette R. Kuntz; her brother, Jerry and her grandparents, Cathy and Elias Kuntz, all of Mandan. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Herman H. Lauf
DICKINSON -- Herman H. Lauf, 82, Dickinson, and formerly of Golden Valley died June 12, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital after a brief illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday, at Golgotha Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, with the Rev. Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, rural Golden Valley. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah, and at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Herman Henry Lauf was born Dec. 4, 1917 at rural Golden Valley, to August and Melita (Beyerle) Lauf. He grew up on his parents' farm 6 1/2 miles northwest of Golden Valley, where he attended rural school. He married Elenor Schulz on Jan. 22, 1946. They farmed and ranched northwest of Golden Valley on his parents' homestead where they raised award-winning Hereford cattle. They retired in 1979 and moved into Golden Valley. Elenor died on July 27, 1981. Herman moved to Dickinson in 1997. He enjoyed playing cards, going out to the farm to fix fence or make hay, and driving to Washington state to buy apples. He also liked to amuse his grandchildren with wind-up toys, stories and an occasional game of Old Maid. He loved to dance and especially to old-time music. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Mary Lauf, Washburn; two daughters and one son-in-law, Blanche Mischel, Dickinson, and Pam and Mark Dewald, Allen, Texas; six grandchildren, Landen and Lindsey Lauf, Loren Mischel, Joe Thomas III, and Jeremy and Dustin Dewald; one brother, Adolph Lauf, Wibaux, Mont.; one sister, Erna Lauf, Golden Valley; a very special friend, Irene Rohde, Dickinson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elenor; his brothers, Albert, Otto and Reinhold; and one sister, Alma Gephart. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Sherwin Carlyle Swenson
Sherwin Carlyle Swenson was born January 28th, 1953 to Elsie (Swenson) Swenson and Sanford Swenson Sr. in Bismarck. He was raised in Halliday, attending grade school there until 1966, at which time his family moved to Minot following the death of his father. He attended Ramstad Junior High and graduated from Minot High School in 1971. He attended Minot State College. In 1973 he moved to Sparks, Nev. He worked at Harrah's and then was employed for 24 1/2 years at Nevada Bell, as a Directory Assistance and Intralata long distance operator. On December 27, 1986 he married Laura Thomas of Reno, Nev. and was blessed with a daughter, Zoe Anne on August 8, 1995. He enjoyed building model cars, boats, trains and computers. He was preceded in death by his father and nephew, Donald S. Swenson. He is survived by his wife and daughter, his mother, Elsie Swenson, Sun Valley, Nev., his brother and sister-in-law, Sanford and Mary Swenson, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Sandra and Wilk Wilkerson, Sun Valley, and Sonya Swenson, Sparks; two nieces, four nephews, one great-nephew and two great-nieces, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. today at Walton's Funeral Home, 1745 Sullivan Lane, Sparks, Nev.

Shirley L. Barcome
Shirley L. Barcome, 68, Grand Forks, died June 16, 2000 at her home. Arrangements are pending with Norman Funeral Home, Grand Forks.

Jean E. Blaine
MOTT -- Jean E. Blaine, 85, Bismarck, formerly of Mott, died June 15, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Monday, at United Church of Christ, Mott. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott. She is survived by her son, James Blaine, Bismarck; and one sister, Madge Hill, West Des Moines, Iowa. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott)

Alvin Campbell
ELGIN -- Alvin Campbell, 83, Elgin, died June 15, 2000 in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday, at Assembly of God Church, Elgin. Further arrangements are pending with Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig.

Inez Crimmins
Inez Crimmins, 89, formerly of Mandan, died June 14, 2000 in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inez Crimmins was born April 15, 1911 in rural Emmons County, the daughter of Charles and Lena (Preszler) Gantka. She attended school in Hazelton and graduated from Lee's School of Hair Design and Cosmetology in St. Paul, Minn. She worked as a hairdresser in Minneapolis. Inez married David Crimmins on Dec. 22, 1932. They farmed in Emmons and Burleigh Counties. They moved from Wing to Bismarck in 1959. She worked at the North Dakota State Library from 1960 until retiring in 1972. Inez was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and did volunteer work in the craft department at the Bismarck Senior Center. Inez is survived by her son, Paul Crimmins, Safford, Ariz.; three daughters and one son-in-law, Davetta and John Rinkel, Pick City, Joan Miller, Gillette, Wyo., and Sharon Boone, Rifle, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Cleo Crimmins, Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, Monte Engel, David, Bradley, Darrell and Jim Miller, Bonnie Aide, JoAl Wagner, Kristi Broman, Lance Jorgenson, Jamie Boone, and Chad and Steve Crimmins; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Beryl Kiefer, Bismarck, and Eula Hagge, Roseburg, Ore.; and one brother and five sisters-in-law, Charles Gantka, Big Fork, Mont., Marge Gantka, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Kay Gantka, Texas, Ruth Crimmins, Glendale, Ariz., Mary Ellen Hildebrand, Mandan, and Vernice Crimmins, Watford City. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; one son, Richard; two grandsons, Jason Crimmins and Troy Jorgenson; four brothers, Lynn Gantka, Lewellen Gantka, Floyd Gantka, and Fred Gantka; and two sisters, Velma Dietzman and Adaline Perry. Edward John Kuntz, 84, formerly of Menoken, died June 16, 2000 in a local care center. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Leo Lanz
Leo Lanz, 104 W. Antelope St., died June 16, 2000 at his home. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

William L. Paulson
The memorial service for Justice William L. Paulson, 86, Valley City, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at All Saints Episcopal Church, Valley City, with the Rev. Charles Henley officiating. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City. He died June 16, 2000 in the Valley City hospital. William L. Paulson was born Sept. 3, 1913 in Valley City, the son of Alfred P. and Inga B. (Wold) Paulson. He attended schools in Valley City and graduated from Valley City High School in 1931. William received a B.A. degree from Valley City State Teachers College in 1935. He received his law degree from the University of North Dakota Law School in 1937 and was admitted to the North Dakota bar on July 9, 1937. He was united in marriage on Sept. 8, 1938 to Jane E. (Betty) Graves. William joined his father's law firm in 1937 in Valley City and served as states attorney there from 1941 to 1950 and 1959 to 1966. He was elected to a 10-year term as justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court in 1966 and re-elected to another 10-year term in 1976. Justice Paulson was a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar Association of North Dakota, Burleigh County Bar Association and American Judicature Society. He served as President of the North Dakota States Attorneys Association in 1964 and as a director of the North Dakota National District Attorneys Association from 1963 to 1965. During 1965, Justice Paulson was the Chancellor of the Episcopal Church of North Dakota, and served as president of the Valley City Jaycees in 1954, district vice-president U.S. Jaycees, Southeast District, 1945-1946, member of the board of directors of Norwest Bank, Valley City for 45 years, member of Board of Directors of the Valley City Chamber of Commerce 1960-1961, judge of National Awards Jury of Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, Penn., in 1969, 1971 and 1977, judge of the American Legion Oratorical contest in 1970-1972, and president of the Valley City UND Alumni Association from 1963-1965. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, Knights of Pythias and the Masonic Lodge. He received the UND Sioux Award in 1973. Justice Paulson is survived by his wife, one son, John T. (Bonita), who serves as district judge for the Southeast Judicial District; one daughter, Mary (Mikal) Simonson, who is the Executive Director of the Open Door Center, Valley City; they all reside in Valley City; four grandchildren, Amita Paulson, Kristofor Paulson, Nicholas Simonson and Benjamin Simonson; and one brother, Thomas (Dorothy), Rancho Mirage, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mildred Paulson. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Open Door Center, 209 Second St. SE, Valley City, ND, 58072.
