Freda V. Holden
Freda V. Holden, 80, Bismarck, died July 24, 2000 in Sylvan House Assisted Living, Hayden, Idaho. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Freda was born March 17, 1920 in Bismarck to George and Ellen (Eliason) Christianson. She was raised and educated in Bismarck. On Aug. 31, 1946 she and Paul C. Holden were married at Mandan. They lived on a ranch until they moved to Bismarck in 1955. Freda and, her husband, Paul, loved collecting antiques. She also collected porcelain dolls. She enjoyed playing cards and designing and making clothing and jewelry. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Tom and Deborah Jensen, Hayden Lake, Idaho, Darell and Audrey Reile, Bismarck, and Marlyn and Paulette Neff, Mandan; one son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Roberta Holden, Southern Pines, N.C.; five grandchildren, Ross Jensen, Hayden Lake, Jim and Holly (Reile) Tosseth, Regan, Melodie Neff, Bismarck, Heather and, her husband, Martin Taylor, Fayetteville, N.C., and Leslie Ann Holden, Wilmington, N.C.; two great-grandsons, Tanner and Logan Tosseth, both of Regan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, who died Jan. 4, 1995; her parents; two brothers and five sisters. Mother will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Elmer Koski
WING -- Elmer Koski, 78, formerly of Wing, died July 25, 2000 at the Baptist Home in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wing, with the Rev. Muriel Lippert Schauer officiating. Burial will be in Ahola Cemetery, Wing. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Elmer was born Jan. 8, 1922 on the Koski homestead, eight miles southeast of Wing, to Victor and Marja (Kallio) Koski. He attended school in Harriet Township. On Oct. 19, 1952, he married Della Panjkovich at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wing. Elmer farmed all his life, retiring from "active" farming in 1986. Following his retirement, Elmer enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends in various locations, including Utah, Arizona, California and Nevada. He took pleasure in watching in grandchildren, Patrick, Maria, Bennett and Brandon participate in various sporting and scouting activities. He spent many hours "watching" his granddaughter, MaKayla at the farm. He was excited about the visits from his twin granddaughters, Lauren and Jade, since residing at the nursing home. Elmer served as a board member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Burleigh County Farmer's Union, and Harriet Township. He was also a member of the Eagles Club and Moose Club. He was a Precinct Committeeman and was involved with the Wing Senior Club and other community activities. He is survived by his wife, Della; his daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Steve Gackle, Elko, Nev.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Chris (O'Connor), Bismarck, and Richard and Arliss (Roth), Wing; his grandchildren, Patrick and Maria Koski, Bennett and Brandon Gackle, and MaKayla, Lauren and Jade Koski; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Martha Kytonen, New York Mills, Minn., Helen Johnson, Tioga, and Rauha and Marvin Schumaier, Coleharbor; and several nieces and nephews. Eleanor Many Horses, 70, Parma, Ohio, died July 23, 2000 in Rochester, Minn. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Veterans Memorial Building, Cannon Ball. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Cannon Ball. A wake begins at 5 p.m. Friday and continues until time of services at the VM Building. Eleanor was born Oct. 14, 1929 at Cannon Ball, to Alphonse and Alma (Red Ears) Bear Ghost. She was raised and educated in Cannon Ball and worked as a nurses' aid and homemaker. Since 1975, she has resided in Ohio. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Peterson, Arna Wise, one son, Fred Clark, all of Cleveland; one sister, Elizabeth Brings Them, Fort Yates; a cousin, Alice Yellow Eyes; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Ralph Meyer
Ralph Meyer, 82, Bismarck, died July 24, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Church of St. Mary, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Thursday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with a rosary and vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Ralph was born July 31, 1917 in Gladstone, the son of Ben and Magdalena (Boehm) Meyer. He was raised and educated in Taylor. Ralph married Bernice Saunders on June 4, 1971 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. He farmed in the New Salem area for 20 years. In 1964, he moved to Bismarck where he worked for Quality Builders (Bismarck Lumber) for many years. He worked as head of maintenance for Montgomery Wards for many years until his retirement at the age of 78. He enjoyed being active and always took pride in his appearance. He and Bernice loved to dance, socialize, and were regulars at the clubs Friday and Saturday nights. They enjoyed dining out. Ralph loved listening to country classics. He was previously married to Tillie Jahner. Ralph had a wonderful sense of humor. He was very well liked by everyone who knew him and will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever. Ralph is survived by his wife Bernice; six daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ken Heinert, Mandan, Karen and Nick Roerick, Fargo, Lori and Elroy Opp, Hazen, Lil and Ray Geiger, Washington, Lynette and Noel Boyko, Bismarck, Lennis and Terry Geiger, Washington; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ron and Linda Saunders, Fargo, Dan and Suzy Saunders, Bismarck, Don Saunders and special friend Shelly, Cottage Grove, Minn.; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Mary Meyer, Kennewick, Wash.; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Clementine Rohrich, Bismarck.
