Flora Klesalek
Flora Klesalek, 106, rural Mandan, died July 18, 2000 in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, at First United Methodist Church, Mandan with Rev. Mark Phillips, officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9:00 p.m. Thursday, 9-11 a.m., Friday both at Perry Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church. Flora was born May 17, 1894 in Morton County, to Ernest and August (Hein) Seeman. She was raised on her family farm and educated in a rural school south of Mandan. On Nov. 25, 1941 she married Joseph Klesaleck in Mandan and they farmed near Mandan all of their married life. She was active in the farm until she was 103 when she fell and broke her hip and entered the nursing home. A special thank you to her nephew and friend, Bill Klesalek. She survived by two sisters-in-law, Alice Suchy, Mandan and Mildred Gibson, Bakersfield, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Robert and Viola Klesalek, Shawmut, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, on Dec. 1, 1995, and three brothers. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)
Leonard F. Pokladnik
Leonard F. Pokladnik, 62, Bismarck, died July 19, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Church of St. Anne. Further arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.
Aloysius Benedict Schneider
Aloysius Benedict Schneider, 73, died July 17, 2000, after a long illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Aloysius, the son of Jacob and Eva (Dosch) Schneider, was born March 9, 1927, in Strasburg. He was raised and educated in Strasburg where he farmed for many years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 29, 1945, and achieved the rank of sergeant. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 2, 1947. On Nov. 22, 1961, Aloysius married Shirley Werner. He was employed with the Bismarck Postal Service from 1965 until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and St. Anne's Church. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Wally and Steve; and three daughters, Mary, Bonnie and Ann, all of Bismarck and one sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Val Kiefer, Aberdeen, S.D. He was preceded in death by one sister, Johanna; and his parents, Jacob and Eva.
Evelyn Sorenson
WILLISTON -- Evelyn Sorenson, 77, Williston and Trenton, died July 18, 2000 in a Rochester, Minn., hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.
Helen Strand
CENTER -- Helen Strand, 89, Waterville, N.Y., and formerly of Stanton and Center, died July 18, 2000 in a Waterville nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Center. Further arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Homes, Hazen and Beulah.
Carol Chapman
Carol Chapman, 68, died July 21, 2000 in a local hospital. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Marlin J. Huhncke
STEELE -- Marlin J. Huhncke, 69, Steele, died July 20, 2000 in the Steele nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Steele. Further arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Dora Mae Jennings
Services were held on July 12 for Mrs. Dora Mae Jennings of Lakewood, Colo. She died July 8, 2000 in a Denver, Colo. hospital. Dora was the daughter of Robert and Stella Huston Maxwell. She was born May 31, 1932 in rural Turtle Lake, where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1950. Dora and Arnold "Bud" Jennings were married June 11, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bismarck. They lived in North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana before settling in Lakewood, where they had lived for the past 32 years. She was employed by Montana Dakota Utilities as a secretary and California Company as a secretary/receptionist in Bismarck and Billings, Mont. She also worked 12 years as an executive secretary for Mesa Petroleum Co. in Denver. She is survived by her husband, Bud; two sons, Jeffrey (Barbara), Williston, and Michael (Elizabeth), Casper, Wyo.; one daughter, Michelle, Lakewood, Colo.; four grandchildren, Charlotte, Natalie, Michelle and Collette. She also leaves on brother, Robert (Carolyn) Maxwell and four sisters, her triplet Doris Anderson, Rueby (Richard) McCabe, Roberta (Al) Hampstead and Patricia (Les) Mai. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Maxwell and her triplet, Dean. Also, two nephews, Robert McCabe and Arthur Maxwell Jr., and one brother-in-law, Billy Anderson.
Clarence Ketterling
The Rev. Clarence Ketterling, 71, Bismarck, died July 21, 2000 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Art Scanson and Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Clarence Wesley Ketterling was born Nov. 14, 1928, at Zeeland to Emil and Emma (Friemarck) Ketterling. He attended grade school and high school in Wishek and Lehr. Clarence married Jane Holdren of Yankton, S.D. on June 4, 1950. He attended college at Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, earning a B.A. degree in 1953. He attended Evangelical Theology Seminary in Naperville, Ill., earned his Bachelor of Divinity degree. He was ordained as Elder at Cavalier in 1956. Clarence served on various boards within the United Methodist Church. Over the years he served churches in North and South Dakota from 1948 to 1992, when he took medical leave. Churches included are Scotland, S.D., Hinton, Iowa, Palatine, Ill., Oswego, Ill., Kellerton-Ramona, S.D., Wishek, Sheldon-Chaffee, Rapid City, S.D., Oakes, Washburn, Bowman and Streeter-Medina-Cleveland. Clarence retired in 1997 and made his home at 1968 E. Capitol Ave., Bismarck. In the ministry, he was honored with a certificate for 52 years recognition. He was a past member of the Civil Air Patrol of Bowman and Bismarck, earning his Captain rating. Clarence enjoyed his family, woodworking, flying, motorcycling, and in his retirement, he added "chalking" of wildlife animals in ceramics. Clarence is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Larry Perkins, Aurora, Colo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Elvira Ketterling, Redmond, Wash.; two grandchildren, Michelle and Wesley Perkins; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Violet and Paul Eslinger, Apple Valley, Minn.; and Esther, Rapid City, S.D.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Nikki Ketterling, St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Emma Ketterling; one brother, Andy; and one brother-in-law, Allen Eslinger.
Rodney Kuntz
DICKINSON -- Rodney Kuntz, 42, Dickinson, died July 20, 2000 in Dickinson. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in Dickinson Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Rita; their five children, Riley, Lindsey, Emily, Jay and Jamie, all at home; and his mother, Katheryn Kuntz, Belfield. Emma Newland
STEELE -- Emma Newland, 97, Steele, died July 20, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele, with the Rev. Paul Tjostem officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel, Steele. Emma was born April 21, 1903 in Excelsior Township, Steele, the daughter of Jense and Johanna (Peterson) Hanson. She was raised in the Excelsior Township area. On Dec. 23, 1922, she married Ole B. Newland. Emma is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil and Beatrice, Driscoll, Clarence and Ruby, Bismarck, and Glenn and Leona, Minnesota; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Don Siers, Dixon, Mont.; one sister, Norma Yound, Washington; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Leonard Francis Pokladnik
Leonard Francis Pokladnik, 62, 612 N. 29th St., Bismarck, died July 19, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Church of St. Anne, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Leonard Francis Pokladnik was born on May 12, 1938 at St. Cloud, Minn., the son of Otto and Mary Frances (MacPherson) Pokladnik. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1956 and joined the Marine Corps in June of 1957. He was discharged from the Marine corps in June of 1959, reaching the rank of Lance Corporal. Leonard graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1965. He married Marjorie Anderson in June of 1964 at Sacred Heart Church in East Grand Forks, Minn. Leonard began his teaching career at Bismarck High School in August of 1965, where he started the Distributive Education Program. In August of 1968, he started the Marketing Education Program at Bismarck State College. Leonard earned his Master of Science Degree from the University of North Dakota in February of 1969. In 1971 Leonard joined the North Dakota State Board for Vocational and Technical Education as the State Supervisor for Distributive Education. During the years, Leonard served on many state and national boards associated with DECA. He also was a lector at the Church of St. Anne and a Cub and Boy Scout leader, earning the Order of the Arrow. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles and a lifetime member of the VFW. Leonard retired in June of 1997, but continued to work as a consultant with the State Board for Vocational and Technical Education until June of 1999. Leonard also was an active member and Counselor with SCORE. Leonard enjoyed spending time at his lake home in Minnesota, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his sons, of whom he was very proud, and his many friends and relatives. Leonard is survived by his wife, Marjorie; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles and Evamarie Pokladnik, Minneapolis, and Christopher Pokladnik, Moorhead, Minn.; one sister, Katheryn Pokladnik, Irving, Texas, and one brother and sister-in-law, David and Joanne Pokladnik, Southlake, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. In lieu of flowers, Leonard requested memorials to the North Dakota DECA Scholarship fund. WAHPETON -- Eugene J. Pope, 73, Wahpeton, died July 20, 2000 in a Breckenridge, Minn. hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton. He is survived by his wife, Muriel; five sons and one daughter, Randy, Wahpeton, Deborah Starbuck, Kaneohe, Hawaii, Doug, Milwaukee, Wis., Steve, Gaithersburg, Md., Gene, Overland Park, Kan., and Dan, Lincoln, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Robert, Williston; and one sister, Catherine Wood, Port Townsend, Wash. Harris Adams
STEELE -- Harris Adams, 82, Steele, died July 19, 2000 in a Steele care center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Steele, with the Revs. Randy Argall and Bruce Adams officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele. Harris was born on Jan. 9, 1918 in Braddock, the son of Olmstead and Ida (Mason) Adams. In 1919, he moved to a farm south of Steele with his family where he grew up and attended school. Harris met and married Evelyn Gray on Nov. 12, 1938. They ranched south of Steele until they retired and moved to Steele in 1991. He served on the F.H.A. board in Kidder county, he was on the Presbyterian church board, on the Golden Manor Nursing Home board and served two terms as Kidder County Commissioner. Harris was a loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle and he will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; one son, Bill, Steele; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jerry Kurath, Bismarck; his grandsons, Rick, Scott and Travis; his brothers, Wade, New Mexico, Eugene, Tappen and Tom, Medora; and his sisters, Ruby Pitzen, New Mexico, Grace Hanson, Fosston, Minn., and Jo Ellen Aichele, Steele. Marlin J. Huhncke
STEELE -- Marlin J. Huhncke, 69, Steele, died July 20, 2000. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Steele, with the Rev. Rob Olson officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service in Steele and one hour prior to the service at the church. Marlin Huhncke was born Nov. 6, 1930 at Steele, the son of Chester and Olga (Brusven) Huhncke. He grew up on the family farm five miles northwest of Steele and attended school in Pleasant Hill No. 2. He served in the United States Army from October 1954 through June of 1956. He married Barbara Pfefferkorn in Steele and they had three children. Marlin farmed in the Steele area for a number of years and was the foreman of an electrical line crew for Dominion Construction in various parts of the country. He was a member of the American Legion. He loved animals and thoroughly enjoyed his dog, Ripper. Marlin is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Joel Hughes, Bismarck; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Caroline, Bismarck, and Mark, LaMirada, Calif.; three grandchildren, Tyler and Jason Everding and Susan Huhncke; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Forrest Austin, Center, and Faye and Vernon Stenerson, Baldwin; four nieces and three nephews. Todd Mueller
Todd Mueller, 34, 1119 University Dr., Bismarck, died July 21, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. David Richter celebrant. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Todd was born June 3, 1966 at Bismarck, the son of Thomas and Cecilia (Haag) Mueller. He attended schools in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1984. Todd worked for Pizza Hut for many years and later worked for Bread Poets. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting with his dog, Rusty, and fishing. He was a fan of NASCAR racing and football. Todd will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Cecilia, Bismarck; his father, Thomas, Bismarck; his grandmother, Viola Mueller, Bismarck; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Troy and Lynette, Bismarck, and Reed, Fargo; two nieces, Madison and Kennedy; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
