Adam Birst
TURTLE LAKE -- Adam Birst, 88, Turtle Lake, died June 29, 2000, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Turtle Lake, with burial in Turtle Lake Cemetery. He is survived by one daughter, Carol Frasier, Custer, S.D.; three sons, Curtis and Roland, both of Washburn, and Dennis, California; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Eva James, Turtle Lake; and one half-brother, Raymond Birst, Bismarck. Carol Marie Brunelle
Carol Marie Brunelle, 51, 411 Fifth Ave. N.W., Mandan, died June 29, 2000, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Carol was born on Jan. 10, 1949, in Bismarck, the daughter of Bill "A.W." and Margaret (Morton) Brunelle. She was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1967. In 1971, she graduated from Bismarck School of Nursing as a registered nurse. Carol was employed as a registered nurse in obstetrics at Medcenter One Health Systems in Bismarck for 23 years. The past six years she worked in Parshall, at Rockview Good Samaritan Care Center as a registered nurse. Carol was a member of the North Dakota Nursing Association. Carol had many interests, cross-stitching, reading, traveling, playing pinochle, going to craft shows, and she enjoyed musical toys. She would take her musical toys to nursing homes and spend time with the patients to brighten their day. She will be remembered by so many whose lives she touched with her friendlly smile and kindliness. She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Debra, Mandan, and Mark and Debra, Twin Falls, Idaho; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Paula and her fiance, Rich Brueckner, Fargo, and Peg Brunelle, and Marlene and Dave Froemming, all of Mandan; her nieces and nephews, Rick and Lee Brunelle, Christie Campagna, Jeremy Brunelle, Adam Kuntz, Chad and Kristi Froemming, Elizabeth and Stephanie Brunelle, and Jesse and Ryan Brunelle; two grandnieces, Chantise and Alustrial; one grandnephew, Jacob; and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

FARGO -- Edna J. (Foley) Connelly, 81, Fargo, died June 29, 2000, in a Fargo hospital. Arrangements are pending at Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota.

Rose Frank
NEW ENGLAND -- Rose Frank, 88, New England, died June 30, 2000, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New England. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Bertha Halstead
BEACH -- Bertha Halstead, 92, Longmont, Colo., formerly of Beach, died June 27, 2000, in Longmont. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Beach. She is survived by one daughter, Diane Brotemarkle; and two grandchildren, Sarah and Chaunce.

Donald R. Hochhalter
REGAN -- Donald R. Hochhalter, 65, Regan, died June 29, 2000, in his home of natural causes. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wilton, with the Rev. William Rushford officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by Wilton American Legion Post 163. Visitation will be from 1:30-6 p.m. Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue after 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. A prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Donald Roy Hochhalter was born Sept. 25, 1934, at Regan, to David and Mary (Stroh) Hochhalter. He grew up and received his education at rural Regan. As a young man, he worked as a carpenter and farmed. From 1954-1957, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in France and Germany. After his discharge, he returned to Regan and married LaVonne Thies on March 2, 1957, at the St. Ignatius parish at Wing. Donald was active in ranching and farming in the Wilton-Regan area, and and in the later years was employed by area farmers. During the 1960s, Don and LaVonne were involved in the 7th Calvary unit of Wilton and Regan. He loved spending time with his grandsons and was never too busy to go hunting or fishing. His granddaughters held a special place in his heart and he cuddled with each. He particularly liked visiting with people. We will miss our husband, dad and grandfather as we sit on his front porch and watch the antics of his cats. He is survived by his wife, LaVonne; his mother, Mary Hochhalter, Wing; four daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Paul Patrick Jr., Linda and William Gregoryk, Joan and Gary Sawicki, and Sandra and Jay Spitzer, all of Wilton; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Jackie, Wilton; 13 grandchildren, Joshua, Jesse, Jason, William, R.J. (Robert), Christopher, Jami, Corey, Braden, Alexis, Sarah, Sally and Thomas; three brothers, Melvin, Hamilton, Mont., Marvin, Wing, and Floyd "Butch," Victor, Mont.; and two sisters, Ardella Gartner, Wing, and Violet Klaudt, Moorhead, Minn. He was preceded in death by his father. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.

Amos Richard Larsen
EPPING -- Amos Richard Larsen, 82, Epping, died June 25, 2000, in a Sturgis, S.D. hospital. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Ray. He is survived by his sister, Lillie Donner, Hettinger. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Eva Matz
Eva Matz, 88, Bismarck, died June 29, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at St. Vincent's Care Center and 3-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service. A vigil and rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Eva Feist was born Jan. 19, 1912, in Zeeland, the daughter of John Nicholas and Elizabeth (Schneider) Feist. She was raised and educated in rural Zeeland, and moved to Denver where she worked at Remington Arms Ammunition Plant during World War II. On Aug. 29, 1943, Eva married Karl Matz at Aberdeen, S.D., while he was home on leave from North Africa where he served in the Signal Corps. After the war, they bought a home in Bismarck. Karl died March 18, 1977, in Bismarck. After Karl's death, Eva volunteered and received recognition awards for her volunteer work. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Firette's Club, and her local neighborhood Birthday Club. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and especially spending time with her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Eva was a great cook, and took great pride and pleasure creating delicious family dinners, of which there were many. Eva was dearly loved and will be missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Larry Larson, Bismarck, and Sandra and Walter Monette, Lincoln; five grandchildren, Lance and his wife Renae Larson, Laura and her husband Erick Glasser, Larry Larson and Tammie Monette, all of Bismarck, and Todd Monette, Jamestown; five great-grandchildren, Alec Larson, Nicholas and Jared Glasser, and Thomas Monette and Anthony Kuntz; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Julia Feist, Clara Feist, Agatha "Peggy" and Lawrence Materi, all of Bismarck, and Betty Nolz, Herreid, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews. Eva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Karl; three brothers, John, Walter and Leo Feist; and two sisters, Mary Palmer and Katherine Strong.

Rosella Mae McCormick
Rosella Mae McCormick, 66, Mandan, died June 29, 2000, in the Mandan care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Women of the Moose Ritual will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a parish vigil at 8. There will be no visitation at the church. Rosella Mae was born Aug. 6, 1933, in Odense, the daughter of Frank and Julia (Wetch) Ereth. She graduated from Mandan High School and worked at Mandan Drug until her marriage to Theodore Emil in 1953. Theodore died in 1988. Rosella was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Women of the Moose, and did volunteer work for various organizations. Rosella was an avid crocheter, a crafter of numerous mediums, and enjoyed camping and traveling with her family and friends. Rosella married Robert L. McCormick in 1991 in Las Vegas. She is survived by her husband, Robert L.; one son, Ted Emil, Mandan; her mother and stepfather, Jewel and Clifford Wing; and one brother, Harold Ereth, all of Reedsport, Ore.; three sisters, Beverly Patton, Waldport, Ore., Sheila Graf, Portland, Ore., and Margo Ereth, San Antonio, Texas; one half-brother, Frank Ereth, Mandan; two half-sisters, Bonnie Wahl, Reedsport, Ore., and Judith Martin, Bismarck; two stepsons, Robert P. McCormick, Hazelton, and Kim McCormick, Arizona; one stepdaughter, Mary Goodman, Arizona; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; and a host of close friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched.

Genevieve Richards
Genevieve Richards, 74, 412 N. First St., died June 30, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Elsie Specht
KILLDEER -- Elsie Specht, 80, Killdeer, died Jund 28, 2000, in the Killdeer care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MDT Monday at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with burial in Killdeer Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Dale, Great Falls, Mont.; one daughter, Leila Olsson, Dickinson; two grandchildren; one brother, Eddie, Hazen; and one sister, Hulda Evans, Bismarck. Steven Talbott
DOUGLAS -- Steven Talbott, 51, Douglas, died June 29, 2000, in a Minot hospital of natural causes. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

John S. Wanner
BELFIELD -- John S. Wanner, 72, Belfield, died June 29, 2000. Services will be held at 3 p.m. MDT Monday at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, with burial in Belfield Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Margie; two sons, Kevin, Belfield, and David, Fargo; one daughter, Nancy Newton, Belfield; six grandchildren; one step-grandson; his mother, Fannie Wanner, Dickinson; three brothers, Tony, Belfield, Danny, Dickinson, and Nick, Seattle; and three sisters, Bertha Marsh, Dorothy Blinston and Veronica Mann, all of Dickinson. Raymond Weixel
JAMESTOWN -- Raymond Weixel, 82, Jamestown, died June 29, 2000, in a Jamestown nursing home. A memorial services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with burial in Medina Cemetery. Raymond is survived by seven sisters, Ella Schnable, Ashley, Johanna Brych, Bismarck, Frieda Patzer, Jamestown, Martha Sund, Jamestown, Esther Remboldt, Jamestown, Edna Clark, Jamestown, and Hulda Siegle, Jamestown.

Anna E. Fisher
Anna E. Fisher, 93, Mandan, died July 18, 2000 in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Mandan United Methodist Church, 221 Second Ave. NW, Mandan, with the Rev. Mark Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. There will be no visitation at the church. Anna was born on April 19, 1907 in White, S.D., the daughter of Charlie and Martha (Mead) Graham. She moved with her parents, sister and brother to North Dakota in 1912 where they homestead in Oliver County. She attended rural school and high school in Mandan. On Oct. 17, 1927 she married Charles J. Fisher in Mandan. They lived on a farm near Harmon. Charlie died on July 6, 1968 and Anna moved to Mandan in 1979. She was a member of the United Methodist Church Circle. Anna enjoyed her family and friends. Anna is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Anderson, Jasper, Texas, and Delores Booke, Dickinson; her son and daughter-in-law, Jim C. and Mary, Mandan; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and her sister, Lila Letzring, Mandan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie; her brother, Joe Graham and two sons-in-law, Bud Booke and Walt Anderson. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Howard Hardy
BEACH -- Howard Hardy, 83, Beach, died July 18, 2000 in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Beach. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. MDT Friday at St. John's Catholic Church, Beach, and on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Howard was born on May 26, 1917 to James F. and Mary W. Hardy in Garner Township, Golden Valley County, N.D. Howard and Kathryn Gilman were married on Oct. 26, 1938 in Bismarck. Howard worked for Gerard Mugglie in the Gamble Store from 1936-1939, then Gilman Oil Company and Beacon Oil from 1939 to 1942. Howard and Kathryn started farming in 1942. Howard helped organize and was one of the first supervisors of the Golden Valley Soil Conservation District, serving from 1948 to 1954. He was a member of the Beach School Board. He served as President of the Board from 1955 to 1960, and again from 1966 to 1972. During the time Howard was on the Board, the new grade school and high school were built. Howard helped organize and was the first president of the Golden Valley County Farm Bureau, serving from 1955 to 1959. He was also a member of the Beach Co-op Grain Company Board from 1958 to 1962. In 1956, Howard was appointed to a 10-man Agriculture Advisory Committee to the National Republican Party. He was then appointed to the North Dakota Wheat Commission in 1959 and served until 1961. The next few years took the Hardy's from Beach to Garden City, Kan. where Howard joined the staff of Great Plains Wheat, Inc., now known as U.S. Wheat Associates with 17 offices worldwide. In 1961, he was elected Vice-President and in 1963, was elected President of Great Plains Wheat Inc. He held this position until 1966, when he resigned to return to full time farming at Beach. While Howard was with Great Plains Wheat, he traveled to Europe, South America, Japan, Korea, China, and the Philippines to promote the sale of wheat. Howard was instrumental in promoting the U.S. Food for Peace program and was one of the first supporters of the sale of wheat to Russia and China. Howard was a member of the Board of Directors of St. John's Catholic Church from 1939-1961 and again in 1973. He also served as Director of the Home on the Range for Boys at Sentinel Butte for many years. Howard was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus of Beach. He served as Grand Knight from 1950-1953, State Deputy of North Dakota from 1954-55 and North Dakota State Master of 4th Degree of Knights of Columbus from 1956-58. In addition to serving as Mayor of Beach, Howard received many awards: Goodyear Soil Conservation Supervisor Award, District Supervisor Award, Achievement and Service Award from Great Plains Wheat, Service Award from North Dakota Wheat Commission, a recognition and appreciation award from Felica Community, Lima, Peru, South America. Howard and Kathryn received the Agriculture Award from North Dakota State University in 1974. He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Donald J.) Matejcek, Bismarck, Albert J. (Pat) Hardy, Dickinson, H. Michael (Marcia) Hardy, Fargo, Dennis (Janice) Hardy, Kingman, Ariz., Maurice (Loann) Hardy, Beach; daughter-in-law, Vickie (Jerry) Hardy, Fargo; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Dr. Paul (Lois) Hardy, Mercer Island, Wash., Gerald (Donna) Hardy, Santa Rosa, Calif., Charles (Vicky) Hardy, Beach; and his sisters, Mary Muggli, Tacoma, Wash., and Margaret Marman, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; his daughter, Mary Margaret Zinsli; and his two sons, Kevin and Jerry. (Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo)
