Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with burial in Gackle Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Amelia; one son, Alton, Jamestown; three daughters, Alma Becker, Jamestown, Adeline Geist, West Fargo, and Arlene Stahlhut, Jamestown; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

MCHENRY -- Samantha Erman, 7, McHenry, died Dec. 31, 2000, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Voltaire. Arrangements are pending at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Joseph Fischer
HALLIDAY -- Joseph Fischer, 59, Halliday, died of cancer, Jan. 1, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Halliday, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his four children, Joseph Fischer, Hazen, John Fischer, Dickinson, and Jesse Fischer and Janell Fischer, both of Dickinson.; four grandchildren; one brother, Mike, Wibaux, Mont.; and two sisters, Vivian Booke and Clarlee Pierson. Arlen Palmer Hettervig
Arlen Palmer Hettervig, 73, died Jan. 2, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Center, with the Rev. John Erickson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the church. Arlen was born April 20, 1927, at Buxton, the son of Melvin and Gina (Gunlickson) Hettervig. He attended school in Buxton. On Nov. 6, 1950, he joined the armed services. He was sent to Germany where he was a private driver to General VanHaughton. He served two years of active duty and four years of reserve service. He was discharged on Nov. 26, 1956. Arlen returned home and attended college at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, where he received an associate of applied science degree with a major in electrical technology. Following graduation, he began work with Minnkota Power Cooperative. Later that year he married Thelma Martinson Eliason on Aug. 5, 1955, in Buxton. In 1968, he and his family moved to Center, where he worked for Minnkota as an electrical supervisor until his retirement in 1987. He spent his retirement years traveling, fishing, farming, butchering, cooking at the cabin, and playing cards with his friends at The Corner. Arlen was a very compassionate man and a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; his children and their spouses, Judith Eliason, Gail and Jim Schneider, Thomas and Sheri, and Lisa and Rick Reichenberg; his grandchildren and their spouses, Aimee and Jason Burley, Melissa, Danielle, Sean, Emily, Johnathon, Tabitha, and Baby Reichenberg; his great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Abbie; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Murial Vincent, Vivian and Lloyd Christopherson, Delores and B.W. Chapman, and Ruby and Gordon Brieland; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Phyllis, and Mel and Kathy; a special cousin and his wife, Earnest and Barbara; numerous nieces and nephews; several good fishing buddies; and his pet goldfish, George, Eunice and Dorothy. Sharon Hildebrand
Sharon Hildebrand, 56, Denver, formerly of Bismarck, died Dec. 28, 2000, in Denver. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Boelter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Graham officiating. Burial will be in Mennonite Zion Cemetery, Arena. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home. Sharon was born March 12, 1944, in Steele, the daughter of Raymond J. and Elma (Deckert) Hinkel. She was raised and educated in Wing, graduating from Wing High School in 1962. She married James Hildebrand in November 1964. Sharon will be remembered for her artistic talent, and her love of life. She always opened her home and her heart to stray animals and pets. She enjoyed interior decorating and commercially decorated, painted and wallpapered many residential and commercial buildings in the Dakotas, Arizona and Colorado. Sharon was also a talented seamstress, poet and loved telling and listening to jokes and stories. She is survived by two sons, Grant and Darron, both of Denver; two daughters, Monique, Denver, and Stacey, Bismarck; her mother, Elma, Arena; her sister, Shirley Lockbeam, White Bear Lake, Minn.; and one brother, Dwight, Bismarck. Her father, Raymond, and one brother, Daryl, preceded Sharon in death.

Carol Neuschwander Ness, 55, Fargo, formerly of Bismarck, died Jan. 1, 2001, in a Fargo hospital. Christ Ruff
Christ Ruff, 69, Kempner, Texas, died Dec. 21, 2000, in a Lampasas, Texas nursing home. Services were held December 23 at Dodson Funeral Chapel. He was born May 7, 1931, to Christian and Mathilda (Kallis) Ruff. Christ grew up in the Burt and Mott areas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and the Korean War. He retired from the Army in 1975. He married Gloria Jean Caryl in 1978, and has lived in Lampasas and Kempner area since 1975. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Jean, Lampasas; one stepson; one stepdaughter; four sisters, Anna Tranby, Bismarck, Freda Gruebele, Dickinson, Esther Colebank, Bismarck, and Martha Graham, Lowell, Ark.; and four step-grandchildren.

He is survived by four sons, Robert, Golden, British Columbia, Canada, Donald, Williston, Lee, Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Larry, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; two daughters, Kathryn Berg, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Carol Lindquist, Williston; two sisters, Margaret Lindquist and Doris Wulff, both of Saskatchewan; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Corey John Seibel
VALLEY CITY -- Services for Corey John Seibel, 17, Valley City, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City, with the Revs. Paul Huso, Mark Ostgarden and Larry Giese officiating. A second service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, with the Revs. Larry Giese and Paul Huso officiating. He died as a result of an automobile accident near Valley City on Jan. 2, 2001. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey. Corey John "Corky" Seibel was born Dec. 22, 1983, in Harvey, the son of John and Kaye Seibel. He attended school in Harvey before moving to Valley City in September 2000. In school he was active in many activities including football, baseball, track, golf, wrestling, FCCLA, speech, drama, choir and band. He was also in Boy Scouts, AWANA and LYO, serving as a delegate to the Western Synod Conference. He also enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, card playing, computer games and movies. Corey served as a paper carrier for the Minot Daily News and the Bismarck Tribune for six years. In Valley City he worked for the Valley City Parks and Recreation Department and at Taco Johns. Corey attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valley City, participating in the choir and LYO. He is survived by his parents, John and Kaye, Valley City; one brother, Chad Allen Seibel, Bismarck; one nephew, Blake Baxter, Sandpoint, Idaho; his grandparents, Richard and Colleen Doering Jr., Goodrich; many aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eddie and Anne Susag, and John Joseph Seibel.
Carime Kaye Seibel
VALLEY CITY -- Services for Carime Kaye Seibel, 15, Valley City, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City, with the Rev. In school she was active in many activities including volleyball, basketball, track, golf, girls' softball, choir and band. She was also in Girl Scouts, AWANA, LYO and enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, dancing, e-mailing friends and music. Carime served as a paper carrier for the Minot Daily News and the Bismarck Tribune for five years. Carime attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valley City and participated in LYO. She loved camp at Lake Metigoshe where she attended for six years and had planned to be a camp counselor. She is survived by her parents, John and Kaye, Valley City; one brother, Chad Allen Seibel, Bismarck; one nephew, Blake Baxter, Sandpoint, Idaho; her grandparents, Richard and Colleen Doering Jr., Goodrich; and many aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eddie and Anne Susag, and John Joseph Seibel.

Herman Sonduck
Herman Sonduck, 90, died peacefully at his home on Jan. 2, 2001. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with Sol Wezelman officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Herman was born Feb. 3, 1910, in Holyoke, Ma. He married Adella Anderson in Lemmon, S.D. They moved to Baytown, Texas, and Herman became employed by Humble Oil. After several moves he chose Bismarck as his permanent residence in 1946. After several job and business ventures he went into business with Jennings Lumber Company in 1953. He was a founding partner for Jennings Lumber along with Wayne Jennings and Gordon Saveron. After Saveron passed away, Jennings sold his interest in properties and Herman's brother Sidney joined him in the ownership. After a lengthy illness, Adella passed away in January of 1972, and Herman met and married Lilly Olivia Moen on March 3, 1973, in Bismarck. Sidney Sonduck passed away in 1985. He and Herman operated Jennings Lumber Company for over 25 years, when he sold the business and retired. During those years Herman enjoyed traveling with his wife and sister-in-law, Irene Finneman, in the United States and Europe, visiting Norway three times and numerous trips to Minot for the Hostfest. Herman's greatest loves were raising his adopted granddaughter, Candice, spending time with relatives in Golva and visiting family members who lived across the United States. It gave him great pride and satisfaction in being involved in various organizations and being an active member of the Elks Lodge, Shriner's Masonic Bodies, Sons of Norway, along with the North Dakota Lumberman's association including being president of the Lumberman's Association. He also contributed generously to numerous charities such as the Dakota Zoo, Shriner's Club, the Cancer Society, Masonic Lodge, Dakota Boy's Ranch, Help Center, MADD, Salvation Army, Bismarck State College, YMCA, Alzheimer's Association, Easter Seals, World Jewish Congress, Make A Wish Foundation, U.S. Holocaust Memorial, Cystic Fibrosis, El Zagal Hospital, and American Diabetes. Everyone knew him as a kind, gentle patient and giving man who spent his life caring about others before himself. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing "Polish Poker," with friends, good food, reading and engaging in great conversations. Herman touched the hearts of all who knew him with his wit and gracious welcoming smile and easygoing nature. He will be greatly missed as husband; father; grandfather; uncle; and friend. He is survived by his beloved family, his wife, Lilly; sisters, Sally Morris Dwir, Naples, Fla., Ann Rotenberg, Garrison, N.Y., Carolyn Alma, Shakopee, Minn., Lana Schaffhausen, St. Paul, Minn., Sheila Curl, Bowman, Elaine Moen, Cleveland; and nephews, Dennis Rottenberg, Garrison, N.Y., Jeff Finneman, Sturgis, S.D., Ronald Finneman, Williston, Kevin Finneman, Golva, and Earl Moen, Golva. Special in his heart was his adopted granddaughter, Candice Askew and Tom Smitherman; and his great-grandchildren, Sean and Kathryn Smitherman, Mobile, Ala.; her grand-niece, Jessica Finneman, Williston; grand-nephew, Matthew Finneman, Williston; and great-grand-nephews, Justin Schillo, Beach, and Brian Schillo, Bowman. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Adella; his daughter, Sandra; and his brother, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to one of the charities listed above.
