GARRISON -- Winston Ervin Anderson, 73, Garrison, died Dec. 31, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, with burial at 11:30 a.m. Friday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. He is survived by his wife, Adeline; one son, John, Houston, Texas; two daughters, Colleen Learned, Cando, and Vicki Anderson, Eagan, Minn.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Vivian Glover, Upland, Calif., Priscilla Aldinger, Milwaukee, Ore., and Delores Kauffman, Phoenix. Myrtle B. Anderson
Myrtle B. Anderson, 81, Mesa, Ariz., died Dec. 29, 2000, in Mesa. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Mortuary Chapel, Mesa, withburial in Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Myrtle was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Mohall, to George and Minnie Baska. She grew up and attended school in Mohall, Bottineau and Bismarck, and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1937. She married Russ R. Anderson of Litchville on April 12, 1942. She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. of Bismarck, retiring in 1974 with 31 years of service. In 1971, Myrtle served as president of the District Three Chapel of the C.P. Wayman Telephone Pioneers of America. During 1976, Myrtle and her husband, Russ, retired to the Fountain of the Sun Country Club Resort located in Mesa. She is survived by her husband, Russell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Pat Johner, Costa Mesa, Calif., DeLores and Richard Juhala, Milwaukie, Ore., and Jacque and Steve Fischer, Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Bud Baska, Kent, Wash., and Wilfred Baska, Oklahoma City, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Bill and Mike Juhala, Tracey and Matt Johner, Ryan, Kyle and Jamie Fischer; and one great-grandson, Xavier Juhala. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Delores and Margaret; and one brother, Richard. Frank Bauer
Frank Bauer, 86, Bismarck, died Jan. 1, 2001, in his home. Services will be held at noon Friday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday. Frank was born Feb. 3, 1914, at McIntosh, S.D., the son of Joseph and Leokadia (Himmelspach) Bauer. He was raised and educated near Center. He farmed near Center. He retired from farming and moved to Bismarck, where he worked for Brady Construction Co. He later owned his own construction company. Frank was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and American Legion. He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Justine, Dickinson; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Eva Bauer, Mandan, and Monica and John Neigum, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Holden, Veronica Kruskevsky and Anna Ferderer; and three brothers, Al, Peter and George.
Ethel Lena Berry-Greybull
Ethel (Tamaza sna win) Lena Berry-Greybull, 83, 1108 Summit Boulevard, died Dec. 31, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church, Cannon Ball, with the Rev. John Floberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services. Ethel was born June 2, 1917, at Fort Yates, to Ulysses and Mabel (Chapman) Reed Berry. She was raised and educated in Fort Yates. She married William Greybull, Nov. 13, 1936. Ethel was a very spiritual person and so loved reading and writing Bible verses and poems. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Arnold Fuentes, Englewood, Colo., and Corrine and Joseph Tsabetsaye, Canyon Country, Calif.; five sons, Clyde, Everett, Wash., Blair, St. Paul, Minn., Myron, Elton and Kevin Greybull, all of Bismarck; 27 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. John Brandt, 59, Mandan, died Dec. 30, 2000, in a Billings, Mont. hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a skiing accident. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday. Marjorie Hoover
NEW ROCKFORD -- Marjorie Rangen Hoover, 81, New Rockford, formerly of Bismarck and Maddock, died Dec. 31, 2000, in the New Rockford care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Brethren Church, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden, and will continue at the church from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Maddock. Marjorie Gertrude Paukner, daughter of Michael and Caroline (Hogquist) Paukner, was born June 2, 1919, at Duluth, Minn. She was raised and educated in Duluth, graduating from Central High School in 1937. She then enrolled at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Duluth, graduating in 1940. It was there that she met Phillip Rangen, whom she married on Aug. 3, 1941, in Duluth. They made their home on the Rangen farm northeast of Maddock, where they farmed and raised their family. Following Mr. Rangen's death on Nov. 5, 1975, Marjorie moved to Bismarck where she worked as church secretary and parish worker for Grace Lutheran Brethren Church until retiring in1984. On Oct. 24, 1987, she was married to Warren Hoover. They made their home in Bismarck. Mr. Hoover died March 13, 1993. Marjorie remained in Bismarck until entering the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford in November 1999. Marjorie participated in numerous church activities including serving as organist, president of the Women's Missionary Fellowship, teaching Sunday school class and confirmation class. She served as ombudsman and volunteer at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for many years. She was also involved in other various community volunteer activities. She enjoyed league bowling and traveling throughout the United States. She was an avid quilter and was a member of Capital Quilters Club from 1985-1994. She is survived by her son, Daniel Rangen, Maddock; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Dennis Johnson, Bismarck, and Faith and Mike Burrowes, Billings, Mont.; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Maridel and James Sprenger, Bismarck; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Derald and Ruth Hoover, Stanley, and David and Lois Hoover, Cando; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Wilmar Paukner, Duluth, and David Paukner, Virginia, Minn.; and one sister, Arleen Trevorrow, Sun Prairie, Wis. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Phillip Rangen and Warren Hoover; her parents; one granddaughter, Wendy Lynn Burrowes; and two sisters.

Irma Smith
ALMONT -- Irma Smith, 90, New Salem, formerly of Almont, died Jan. 1, 2001, in the New Salem care center. Services will be held at 7 p.m. CST Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with burial at 9 a.m. MST Friday in Graceland Cemetery, New Salem. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. MST Thursday at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem, and will continue from 4 p.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Irma B. Smith was born Sept. 13, 1910, in Griffin, the eldest daughter of Leslie and Iva (Barton) Smith. She attended St. John's School of Nursing in Fargo and later completed her bachelor of science degree. She worked in many places in North Dakota as a federal government, city, county and school nurse. Irma retired in 1974 and moved to Almont because she believed it was as close as she could be to a rural lifestyle. She had a great appreciation of nature and loved the outdoors and was a wonderful sister. Irma is survived by her three sisters, Laura Beth and Faye Whitley, both of New Salem, and Hilla Whitley, Rogersville, Ala.; four brothers, Clyde, Tracy, Calif., Donald, Fargo, Bob, Las Vegas, and Bart, Glendale, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
