WISHEK -- Lydia Bader, 93, Wishek, died Jan. 8, 2001, in a Valley City care center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Haut Funeral Chapel, Wishek, with burial in Wishek Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Leo, Beulah, and Cliff, Aberdeen, S.D.; three daughters, Delores Zimmerman, Lehr, Eva Schwind, Fargo, and Alma Werth, Fargo; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Anna Martel, Bismarck.

James L. Gebhardt
James L. Gebhardt, 56, Bismarck Baptist Home, died Jan. 9, 2001, in the nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour before services. James Lawrence Gebhardt was born Jan. 5, 1945, at Bismarck, the son of Godfred and Alice (Matthiesen) Gebhardt. He was raised and educated in Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School. He began working for the Bismarck school system when he was in high school and continued as a custodian at Pioneer Elementary School. Jim retired in 1995 after 33 years of service. On Aug. 9, 1997, he married Linda Ehli. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Men's Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Bismarck Optimist Club. He did volunteer work at Missouri Slope Care Center and the Bismarck Emergency Food Pantry. He was an avid John Wayne fan. He is survived by his wife, Linda; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ralph, Irving, Texas, and Glenn and Betty, Plentywood, Mont., and Jack and Nancy, Brookfield, Ill.; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ruth and John Schmidt, Bismarck, JoAnne and Robert Nash, Park Rapids, Minn., Carol and Gene Hetland, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Kathy Garrett, Bismarck; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Gebhardt and Blanche Gebhardt, both of Bismarck; 33 nieces and nephews; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roy, Robert and Richard; and one sister, Alice Bronsak. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Baptist Home and Hospice for the loving care they gave Jim.
Gary Grimstead
Gary Grimstead, 63, Brookings, S.D., passed away Dec. 20, 2000, in a convelescent care center. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Gary was born Jan. 27, 1937, in Bismarck, to Jaye and Ellen (Haakenson) Grimstead. He lived most of his childhood in Swift Falls, Minn. He graduated from high school in Benson, Minn., and then graduated from Bismarck Junior College. He was a great basketball player and after college played with a traveling team that played the Harlem Globetrotters. He married Mar-Jo Boelter in 1959. Gary worked at the Bismarck Tribune for a number of years, then moved to Minneapolis where he worked in the printing business. In 1978 he married Lila Ripley, who died in1990. He has lived in Brookings for the last 10 years. He worked for the Brookings Register Production Department. Gary loved fishing and dancing. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Arnie Rossbert, Escondido, Calif., Lisa and Robert Kennedy, Las Vegas, Lori and Tim Waterman, St. Michael, Minn., and Darcy and Bob Westeren, Ramsey, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and a special friend, Bea Coulson, Brookings. Gary had numerous Haakenson aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Lila.

DICKINSON -- Henry Johannes Jacobson, 84, Dickinson, died Jan. 8, 2001, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Daglum Lutheran Church, South Heart, with burial in the church cemetery. Lorene Kiilsgaard
Lorene Hepper Kiilsgaard, 71, Middleton, Wis., formerly of Bismarck, died Jan. 6, 2001, in a hospice center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, with the Rev. Lloyd Jorgenson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today and will continue one hour before services, all at the funeral home. Lorene was born Oct. 15, 1929, in Selfridge, the daughter of Adolph and Lydia (Oster) Hepper. She was raised and educated in Selfridge where she graduated from high school, and attended Bismarck Junior College. She then worked at North Dakota State Treasurer's Office. Lorene married Herbert Kiilsgaard on April 7, 1951, in Bismarck. The Kiilsgaard's have spent most of their married lives in Minnesota and Wisconsin, with the exception of a few years in Hawaii and Florida. Following Herbert's death in 1993, Lorene returned to Wisconsin to be with family. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sandy L. and Shervin Maleki, Peoria, Ill., and Shari L. Holverson, Middleton; one son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Sabrina, Redondo Beach, Calif.; her grandchildren, Nisa and Laila Maleki, and Thomas Holverson; three sisters, Clara McCreary, Quincy, Wash., Ann Adolf, Bismarck, and Gladys Royse, Mandan; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Jan; and her son-in-law, David.

Regina Miller
Regina Miller, 80, Bismarck, died Jan. 8, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, Raleigh, with the Rev. Gary L. Benz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. today at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, and will continue from noon to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30, both at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour before services. Regina (Ternes) Miller was born Sept. 18, 1920, in rural Grant County. She was the daughter of Anton R. and Marcellina (Gross) Ternes. Regina was raised and educated in Raleigh, attending rural country schools. She continued her education at the Scholastic School in Duluth for one year. On Oct. 14, 1940, she married Lambert R. Miller at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Raleigh. Regina was a member of St. Gertrude's Christian Mothers and Homemakers Club of Raleigh. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, sewing, gardening, reading, playing cards, especially pinochle, and she loved to sing. She is survived by her husband, Lambert; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Edwin, Raleigh, Charles and Marlene, Randall and Brenda, McMinnville, Ore., and Sidney and Brenda, Bismarck; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Rosemary and William Harris, Springfield, Ore., Sandra Tessier, Bismarck, Lillian and Mark Hoffman, Flasher, and Phyllis and Ron Braun, Rawlins, Wyo.; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ex and Marie Ternes, McIntosh, S.D., and Emil and Angie Ternes, Milton, Wash.; and five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Anne Riehl, Watauga, S.D., Mary and Val Fettig, Blaine, Minn., Margie and John Leintz, Bismarck, Darlene and Jim Soucy, Fargo, and Alvina and Al Lenerville, Spearfish, S.D. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Pius Miller; one son-in-law, Richard Tessier; one infant brother, Joseph Ternes; and five sisters, Philomena Miller, Appolonia Volk, Bernadette Trom, Theresa Stewart and Renata Ternes.

Carson Joseph Leifur Oberle
Carson Joseph Leifur Oberle, 10 months, died Jan. 2, 2001, in Carlsbad, Calif., of sudden infant death syndrome. Carson was born Feb. 14, 2000, in La Jolla, Calif. He lived in Carlsbad. Carson is survived by his mother and father, Carol Leifur Oberle and Mark Oberle of Carlsbad; two sisters, Devon and Kira, both of Carlsbad; his grandparents, William and Joan Leifur of Bismarck, and Joseph Oberle of Lakewood, Colo.; his great-grandfather, Thomas Crouse, Bismarck; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
