Mark W. Ellingson
Mark W. Ellingson, 55, Mandan, formerly of Washburn, died Jan. 19, 2001. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, with the Rev. Bradley Brauer officiating. Theresa Petersen will serve as organist. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn, with military rites by American Legion Victor B. Wallin Post 12. Casketbearers will be American Legion Victor B. Wallin Post 12. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Mark William Ellingson was born Nov. 10, 1945, in Bismarck, to Orlando "Duke" and Wilma (Klaudt) Ellingson. He was raised in Ray and Williston. Mark graduated from Williston High School in 1963. He entered the U.S. Army immediately following high school. He was stationed in Korea for a number of years. He returned to Williston following his discharge, and attended college at UND-Williston for two years. He married Janice Hallsten on March 29, 1969, at Sheyenne. They moved to Grand Forks where he continued his education at UND. They then moved to Grafton, where Mark was employed with the Grafton State School for two years. In 1974, they moved to Washburn, where he worked as a McLean County Social Worker for a number of years. He later went on to work various jobs at the community and state level. Mark moved to the Bismarck-Mandan area in 1990. Mark was active with the North Dakota National Guard for 17 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Washburn, and a member and past commander of the American Legion Victor B. Wallin Post 12 of Washburn. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Mark and Jeannine Ellingson, Minneapolis, and Jeff Ellingson, Honolulu, Hawaii; two grandchildren, Grant and Alexandra; two brothers, Doug Ellingson and his special friend, Julie Schmidt, Bismarck, and Lowell and his wife, Sara Ellingson, Richland, Wash.; his former wife, Jan Olson, Washburn; his nieces and nephews, Piper, Michelle, Jason and Levi; and two cousins.

LEMMON, S.D. -- Anna M. Heil, 92, Lemmon, died Jan. 25, 2001, in the Lemmon nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lemmon, with burial in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon. She is survived by her sister, Amelia Braun, Sauk Rapids, Minn. Inga Jacobson
Inga Jacobson, 101, Eden Prairie, Minn., formerly of Bismarck, died Jan. 24, 2001. Services were held January 27 at Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel, Edina, Minn., with burial in Peace Cemetery, New Salem. Inga Jacobson was born in Avoka, Minn. At age 13, she moved to Culbertson, Mont., where her father established a Lutheran church. She graduated from Culbertson High School and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. She worked as a bookkeeper in the county court house in Poplar, Mont., and later as a bookkeeper in her sister, Ann's, general store in New Salem. Following her move to Bismarck, she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the North Dakota Education Association. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Edwin G. Rice, Minneapolis; and her grandsons, Brian Rice, Denver, and Stuart Rice and his wife, Pamela, Rapid City, S.D. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Jacobson, former New Salem superintendent of schools and director of guidance services for Bismarck Public Schools; and two sons, William Jr. and Richard. Betty Jean Miezwa, 70, Sterling, Colo., formerly of Bismarck, died Jan. 20, 2001, in her home. Private family services were held. She is survived by one son, Timothy, Denver; six daughters, Katherine Miezwa, Sterling, Meg Miezwa, Deer Park, Wash., Teresa Miezwa, Santa Rosa, Calif., Michelle Miezwa, Northglenn, Colo., Cookie LaHa, Chattaroy, Wash., and Roseva Miezwa, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren. Vina M. Njaa
Vina "Vi" M. Njaa, 90, died Jan. 24, 2001, in a Bismarck care center, where she had lived since 1998. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, with the Revs. Robert Nordval and Dale Nabben officiating. Vina, a daughter of John and Elna C. (Helgsten) Johnson, was born May 10, 1910, in Griggs County, where she grew up and attended Cooperstown High School, graduating from there in 1928. Vina married Clarence Njaa in 1935 in Fargo. They lived in Cooperstown until moving to Bismarck in 1982. Clarence died in 1989. She was a member of Charity Lutheran Church. Vina will always be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a kind, intelligent and caring lady who put the needs of others before her own. Vi was always knowledgeable about what was going on in the world around her. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy, Oro Valley, Ariz.; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Doug Sande, Bismarck; a daughter-in-law, Lois Njaa-Theis, Hanford, Calif.; one sister, Margaret Lear, White Bear Lake, Minn.; and two brothers, Richard, Aledo, Texas, and Roger, Bemidji, Minn.; four grandchildren, Martin and Eric Njaa, and Kristin and Karli Sande; as well as two great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Karli Njaa. Edwin Pleinis
Edwin Pleinis, 79, passed away Jan. 19, 2001, in a Bothel, Wash. nursing home. Edwin was born to Fred Sr. and Katherine Pleinis in Arena, one of 14 children. He has lived in Bothel since the 1960s, and worked there until he retired. He is survived by four sisters, Christine Bieth and Martha Cardinal, both of Stockton, Calif., Hilda King, Butte, Mont., and Ruby Huber, Mandan; and two brothers, Aronld Pleinis, Lynnwood, Wash., and Reuben Pleinis, Wichita Falls, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and two sisters.

Gloria A. Asbridge, 79, Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Bismarck, died Jan. 3, 2001, in Colorado Springs. Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colorado Springs. She is survived by her husband, Alex; three sons, Alex, David and Cole; two daughters, Dana Monie and Claudia York; two brothers, Robert Starkle and Thomas Starkle; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mildred A. Burke
STERLING -- Mildred A. Burke, 92, Sterling, died Jan. 25, 2001, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Living Hope Nazarene Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ernie Hockett officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Mildred was born Oct. 5, 1908, at Plankinton, S.D., the daughter of William and Florence (Mills) Patterson. She grew up in Tappen and attended schools in Dawson and Tappen. After graduating from Tappen High School, she attended Northwestern Bible College in St. Paul, Minn. She married Harry J. Burke on July 22, 1944, in Seattle, where they resided for two years before returning to Bismarck. She worked for many years for Morrey Alan's Department Store and worked at various other jobs before working a short time at Top's Cafe in Sterling until her retirement. Mildred enjoyed gardening in her strawberry patch, and she was a helping and generous person. She is survived by one sister, Velma Stebbins, San Diego, Calif.; one brother, William Patterson, Sterling; many nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant sister; one sister-in-law; and one brother-in-law.
Paulina B. Dolajak
Paulina B. Dolajak, 68, Mandan, died Jan. 25, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with the Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a parish vigil. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m.-noon Monday at the funeral home. Paulina was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Dickinson, the daughter of Louis G. and Katherine B. (Mayer) Pachl. In 1938, the family moved to California where she grew up attending various schools in California, wherever her father's employment moved them. She graduated from high school in Hawthorne, Calif., working in banking in Lancaster. On June 23, 1953, she married Robert S. Dolajak in Lancaster, and they moved to Dickinson on the Dolajak family farm, later moving to town. She worked at Farmers Union Oil in Dickinson. In 1957, they moved to Bismarck. She did various part-time work while the children were young. In 1964, she started full time work for the North Dakota State Highway Department, retiring in 1995, after 30 years of service. She had been a member of the Ladies Ascension Church and the Elkettes. She is survived by her husband, Robert S., Mandan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Debora, and Albert F. and Virginia, all of Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Juliana M. and Leo Ternes, Bismarck; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Dolajak, Mandan; 15 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and her mother-in-law, Frances Dolajak, Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Vernon, who died June 17, 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Robert, Bismarck; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Gladys McGruder, Medina, Ida Kleven, Medina, and Minnie Mittleider, Tappen.
