Wilbur W. Snyder
Wilbur W. Snyder, 72, Mandan, died Nov. 30, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Stephen Saunders officiating. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Wilbur was born Aug. 26, 1928, in McIntosh, S.D., the son of Wayne and Violet (Hummel) Snyder. He was raised on a farmstead north of Walker, S.D. He married Lorraine Geigle on April 17, 1949, in Selfridge. He did well drilling for George W. Walker of Selfridge for a few years and then got into the elevator business where he managed several elevators in towns across North Dakota over the course of 20 years. He and his wife also operated small restaurants for a few years in Selfridge and Goodrich, and the Midtowner in Mandan for one year. Wilbur enjoyed being a handyman, cooking, canning, camping, fishing and playing practical jokes on his family and friends. He was so full of life and was the type of person who loved to share stories with anyone he came in contact with, from fishing stories to jokes, to recipes. His sense of humor will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Doris, Siler City, N.C., Dennis and Evie, Mandan, Darrell and Sandra, Burnsville, Minn., and Earl and Karla, Lincoln; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Fiest, New Castle, Wyo., and Dorothy Stugelmeyer, Lodi, Calif.; and special friends, Dave Albrecht and the coffee gang. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Delano, David and Roy Snyder.
