Bernard William Becker
Bernard William Becker, 62, Bismarck, died Dec. 7, 2000, from a sudden heart attack while pheasant hunting near Bentley. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, with the Rev. Thomas Kramer officiating. A spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Bernie was born Sept. 17, 1938, in Bismarck, the son of Joe and Marie (Hamkens) Becker. He graduated from St. Mary's High School. He married Betty Horner in August of 1962, and they had three children. Bernie cofounded Becker and Huber Electric in 1964, which became Becker Electric in 1983. He continued to work there with his wife until his death. Bernie was a loyal member of the Cathedral Church Choir for about 20 years. He volunteered with the Salvation Army and had served as a member of the board of directors. He was active in the apprencticeship program for electricians. In 1971, he founded the Bismarck Gun Club to pursue his life long love of skeet shooting. He operated and managed the gun club for 25 years. He also built and repaired guns for his own collection, a skill he learned from a gunsmith he worked for as a teen-ager. He was also an avid collector of machine tools as well as an amateur machinist. Bernie loved spending time with his four grandchildren. He will be missed for his kindness, concise wit, and enduring integrity. He is survived by his wife, Betty; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Tom Knocke, Cannon Falls, Minn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Jean Becker, Denver, and John and Maggie Becker, Akron, Ohio; four grandchildren; three brothers, John, Dick and Joe; and two sisters, Donna Short and Rita Daffinrud. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosina Ward and Theresa Godfrey; four brothers, Louie, Nick, Paul and Norbert; and one grandchild. Kari A. Etherington
Kari A. Etherington, 36, Helena, Mont., died Dec. 8, 2000 at her home surrounded by her husband, four children and mother. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday, at St. Helena Cathedral, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Retz Funeral Home, Helana, Mont. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. at the Retz Chapel. Kari was born Feb. 2, 1964 in Grand Forks to Hollis O. "Red" and Lucille (Keaveny) Onerheim. She received her education in Langdon and was a graduate from the Class of 1982 in Langdon High School. Kari continued her education attending Valley City State University in Valley City. When attending the university, she met Tony Etherington, they were married in Langdon on Aug. 27, 1982. Kari and Tony had made their home in Bismarck. While in Bismarck, Kari received her Associate of Science Degree from Bismarck State College in 1994. Kari moved to Helena with her family in the winter of 1998. She worked as a teacher's assistant for Central School and for a short time at the front desk of the YMCA. Her past time and hobbies were piano, hiking, camping, gardening, and collecting bells. Kari and her family were members of the St. Helena Cathedral. She was preceded in death by her father, Hollis O. "Red" Onerheim. Kari is survived by her husband, Tony, and their four children, Matthew, Holly, A.J. and Jaron Etherington, all of Helena, her mother, Lucille Onerheim, Langdon; and her sister, Patty Holman, Little Canada, Minn. Eva Hartinger
Eva (Guthmiller-Huft) Hartinger, 89, Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan, died Dec. 9, 2000 at the care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Eva was born May 7, 1911 on the family homestead about 10 miles north of Taylor. She was the oldest of 14 children born to Christ and Elizabeth (Perman) Guthmiller. She married Adam "Tiny" Hartinger in September of 1946. Eva and Adam were natives of Dickinson, where they resided until about six years ago, when their health began to fail. Eva was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Dickinson. She loved to do various things, especially embroidering, knitting and crocheting, and she excelled in all of these. She also greatly enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking, and especially loved making German goods. Eva is survived by her three children, Ramona (Edward) Huft-Hendricks, Bismarck, Larry (Karen) Hartinger, Vancouver, Wash., and LaEtta (Craig) Hartinger-Goldstine, Seattle, Wash. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, along with 28 nieces and nephews. Also, Eva is survived by her two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jack Guthmiller, Puyallup, Wash., and Henry and Cindy Guthmiller, Largo, Fla., and Elsie Guthmiller, Dickinson; seven sisters and one brother-in-law, Bertha Krank, Lydia Strom and Rose Myran, Dickinson, Kathryn Conradson, Minneapolis, Eleanore Hans, St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., Elsie and Jay Powell, Largo, Fla., and Leona Schmidt, Madras, Ore. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Huft (7-2-67) and her second husband, Adam "Tiny" Hartinger (2-17-98); her daughter, Kathleen (Huft) Cunningham (1-12-96), father, Christ Guthmiller (5-17-48), and mother Elizabeth (12-5-67), and these brothers and sisters: Christ Guthmiller (5-17-28), Magdalene Engel (7-15-89), Philip Guthmiller (11-11-96), and Pauline Flinn (7-29-97). Also she was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Emil Engel (8-20-76), Leo Krank (12-14-90), Shane Conradson, (8-22-92), Albert Myran (1-19-91), Gordon Flinn (10-9-88) and Marshall Hanks (8-25-98). Delores Mae Stroh
Delores Mae Stroh, 65, Bismarck, formerly of Tappen, died Dec. 9, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tappen, with the Rev. William Russow officiating. Burial will be in Fisher Cemetery, Tappen. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, 1-9 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Steele Chapel, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Eastgate Steele Chapel. Delores Berreth was born July 21, 1935 at Bismarck, the daughter of John and Pauline (Mueller) Berreth. She grew up and attended school at Dawson. On April 14, 1951, she married Harold Stroh in Tappen. They lived on a farm south of Tappen. In June of 2000, she moved to Bismarck. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, bowling, traveling, playing bingo, and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of the Tappen Homemakers Club. Delores is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Dennis Fike, Fargo, Karen and Rodney Bodvig, Tappen, Patricia and Nick Jahnke, Sterling, Tammie Stalcup and Don Meidinger, Bismarck, Shannon and Bruce Thorness, Foley, Minn., and Shelly and Rick Puklich, Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Twyla Stroh, Tappen, and Kent and Karissa, West Fargo; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Marlin and Donna Berreth, Tappen, and Raymond and Bernie Berreth, Bismarck; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mary A. Jennings
WASHBURN -- Mary A. Jennings, 86, Washburn, died Nov. 30, 2000, in her home after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Washburn, with the Rev. Rod Tkach officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. The organist for the service will be Ethel Mart, and Michelle Leidholm and Jill Wiese will perform a duet. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Mary Ann Hruby was born Nov. 1, 1914, near Wilton, to John and Ksenka (Polensky) Hruby. She grew up on her parents farm northeast of Wilton, where she attended rural school. She married Samuel C. Jennings on Oct. 13, 1932, at Washburn. They farmed and ranched nine miles east of Washburn until moving into Washburn in 1953. Sam died July 2, 1979. She enjoyed her yard and flower garden, and cooking. She dearly loved her family and friends. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harley and Agnes, Washburn; her grandchildren and their spouses, Colette and Pablo Ronderos, Melanie and Ed Konieczka, Mark and Kelly Jennings, Marguerite Bickler, Mikaela Jennings and Maria Jennings; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Harry and Hilda Hruby, and Alex Hruby, all of Bismarck, Joe and Evelyn Hruby, and Paul and Marjorie Hruby, all of Wilton, and Herman Hruby, Jamestown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine and John Anderson, Wilton, and Martha and Jerry Kemmet, Jamestown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son and daughter-in-law, Lamoure and Marvadean Jennings; and four brothers, Peter, Steve, William and Mike Hruby.
Earl L. LaDuke
Earl L. LaDuke, 80, Bismarck, died Dec. 1, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Evangel Temple, Bismarck, with the Rev. A.P. Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by Schafer-Boye-Lang Post 69, Flasher. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Earl was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Fort Rice, the son of Victor Franklin and Mary (Burns) LaDuke. His family moved to the Solen area where he was educated and graduated from Solen High School in 1939. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corp from 1939 to 1941. Earl and Bernice Jochim met in 1939, and were married on Aug. 18, 1943, in McIntosh, S.D. He joined the U.S. Army on June 23, 1944, and was discharged on April 9, 1946. He served with the Army of Occupation, Security Forces. He was a mechanic and trucker in the Shields area until 1949. He then took over his Dad's ranch and expanded the ranch from 1,600 acres to 4,000 acres. Earl was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Assembly of God Church in Flasher. He served on the Flasher School Board, the Freda Township Board and the Shields Congregational Church Board. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; his daughter, Dr. Debra D. LaDuke-Wolf and her husband, Kirby; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donavon E. and Phyllis Ann, Riverton, Kan., Daryl L. and Susan F., Casper, Wyo., and Delvin J. and Annette, Shields; 11 grandchildren; two+ great-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Tom Roberts, Alice and Ray Holzer, all of Gillette, Wyo., and DeLoris and Joe Seiler, Raleigh; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ellsworth B., Fargo, and Robert and Delores, Glendive, Mont. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joe, Ray and Glenn; and two sisters, Frances and Delores.

Inga Banning
FLASHER -- Inga Banning, 98, formerly of Flasher, died Dec. 28, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Flasher, with the Rev. Ken Trana officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in Flasher. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Monday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Ingeborg Marie Baland was born May 7, 1902 in Menomonie Junction, Wis. to August and Mary (Lillebjorgen) Baland. She grew up and attended school at Menomonie, graduating from Menomonie Normal School with a teaching certificate. She and her twin sister came to the Flasher area to teach in several rural schools. On April 20, 1923, she married Edmund Banning in Bismarck. They farmed four miles northwest of Flasher where they lived until Ed's death in 1982. In 1983, Inga moved to Flasher and in October of 1997, she entered the Baptist Nursing Home in Bismarck. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Flasher, and had been a member of the Community Homemakers Club and the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Flasher Senior Citizen Club and the Tuesday Night Card Group. Inga is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Joyce, Yuma, Ariz., and Marlowe and Luella, Logan, N.D.; three daughters and one son-in-law, Corinne Scholl, Bismarck, Mary Muggli, Carson, and JoAnn and Leo Schmidt, Valley City; 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two infant sons, Ronald and Donald; one son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Dorothy; two grandsons, Terry Banning and Dennis Scholl; one great-granddaughter, Lisa Kraft; and two sons-in-law, Mike Scholl and Tony Muggli; her twin sister, Agnes Peake; two brothers, Ivan and Torger Baland; and one half-sister, Helena; and three half-brothers, Henry, Arup and Helmer.
