Delores M. Stroh, 65, Bismarck, formerly of Tappen, died Dec. 9, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service.
Monica Minnie Ternes
Monica Minnie Ternes, 93, Bismarck, died Dec. 8, 2000 in a local care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Revs. Patrick Schumacher and Jeff Wald officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. A vigil and rosary service will be said at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Monica Emineth was born Aug. 29, 1907 at Rosebud, in Oliver County, the daughter of Frank Stanley and Emilia (Snider) Emineth. She moved with her family to Center, where she was raised and educated. On June 18, 1928, Monica married Magnus Ternes at New Salem. They moved to the Raleigh area where they were engaged in farming, then moved to Grand Forks. Monica worked for St. Michael's Catholic Church. They then moved to Larimore on July 27, 1986, and Monica then moved to Mandan in 1998. She worked as a cook at the State Capitol, and worked as a cook and housekeeper for many years. Monica was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandan. She loved baking, and working on cross-stitch and embroidery projects. Monica is survived by five sisters and one brother-in-law, Sr. Emelia Emineth, Merril, Wis., Rose Heinz and Veronica Heinz, both of Bismarck, Clem Hoff, Portland, Ore., Barbara Hohbein, Berwin, Ill., and Frank Pfleiger, Beulah; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Mike and Delores Emineth, Portland, Ore., and Agnes Emineth, Hazen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Magnus; three sisters, Catherine Emineth, Margaret Emineth, and Francis Pfleiger; and two brothers, Tony and Martin Emineth. MOHALL -- Cheryl B. Williams, 56, Mohall, died Dec. 6, 2000 in a Mandan care center following a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mohall. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Mohall. She is survived by her husband, Bert; her father, Lyle Bergeson, Makoti; her brothers, Rick Bergeson, Minot, and Duane Bergeson, Bismarck. Emma B. Thomas
Emma B. Thomas, 98, died May 28, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at Boelter Funeral Home Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be in Driscoll Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until the time of the service, both at Boelter Funeral Home. She was born June 30, 1901 at Summit, S.D., the daughter of Elmer J. and Julia (Stenstadvold) Erickson. She was raised and educated near Francis, Saskatchewan, graduating from nurses training in 1920. Emma married Edward A. Thomas on Oct. 11, 1924 in Bismarck. They lived in Driscoll until 1967, when they moved to Tacoma, Wash. In 1972, they returned to Bismarck. She is survived by two sons, Donald, Aiken, S.C., and Gerald, Crystal, Minn.; one sister, Vina Burge, Hayward, Wis.; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Darlene Wolff
Darlene Wolff, 69, Bismarck, died May 29, 2000 in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Dale V. Nabben officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Service. Darlene was born on March 21, 1931 in Minot. She lived at home with her mother until she moved to the State Developmental Center, Grafton in 1937. In 1985, she moved to Diane's Group home and attended a Day/Work Activity Program in Mandan, both operated by HIT Inc. Darlene retired from work and moved to the Baptist Home in 1997, where caring staff made her feel right at home. Darlene was an active member of Heart River Lutheran Church. She enjoyed working on puzzles, dining out, bingo, sewing, animals, watching butterflies and children play. She had many challenges/goals in her life which she met with a strong determination to succeed. While Diane was basically non verbal, she had no problem getting her point across. She was preceded in death by her mother, Effie (Cwikunski) Wolff. Darlene leaves behind many friends who loved and will miss her, especially Norma Nichols, Dee Grosz, Judy Barondeaum, Mavis Jundt and Gerry and Loretta Hegstad. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Edward Bender
Edward Bender, 92, Bismarck, died April 5, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a rosary and vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Edward Bender was born Oct. 5, 1907, at Winona Township in Emmons County, 17 miles west of Linton, to John and Christina (Lindeman) Bender. He was raised and educated west of Linton. On Oct. 16, 1939, Edward married Caroline Neigum at St. Michael's Church near Linton. Following their marriage, they moved to Braddock, and then to Hazelton in 1943, where they worked on a farm. They returned to Braddock in 1946, and Edward began working for the Soo-Line Railroad. They moved to Bismarck in 1968, where they have since resided. Edward retired in 1975, after 29 years with the Soo-Line. They were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Edward enjoyed gardening, collecting coins and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Caroline, Bismarck; eight sons and seven daughters-in-law, Edwin and Charlotte, Harry and Joyce, Jim and Annette, and Larry, all of Bismarck, Tom and Sue, Mandan, and Andrew and Dorinda, Bill and Carol, and Don and Pam, all of Seattle; three daughters and sons-in-law, Angeline and Willie Hilzendeger, and Charlene and Ken Fetzer, all of Bismarck, and Lorraine and Darwin Eisenbarth, Missoula, Mont.; 23 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Homer Pulse, Glendive, Mont.; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Johanna, Katherine, Emma and Karoline; and five brothers, Gottlieb, George, Johnny, Fred and Phillip.

VALLEY CITY -- Lenore Cunningham, 100, Valley City, died April 3, 2000, in a Valley City care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Valley City. Jeanette Fischer
Jeanette Fischer, 65, Bismarck, formerly of Dickinson, died April 6, 2000, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today, at Evergreen Inn, Dickinson, and continue from 4 to 9 p.m. at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. by Deacon Ralph Stockert. Jeanette, daughter of William and Pearl (Baranko) Anheluk, was born Feb. 11, 1935, in Dickinson. She attended high school at Model High and graduated from Business College in Billings, Mont. In May 1955, Jeanette married Dorman Fischer in Dickinson. She worked at Mann's Automotive for 30 years. After retiring, she worked at the Evergreen Inn for 10 years until becoming ill. Jeanette enjoyed spending time with children, playing bingo, listening and dancing to country music, and spending time with the residents and her co-workers at the Evergreen Inn. She is survived by three daughters, Dorma (Gerry) Steier, Bismarck, Reyne (Kelly) Boespflug, Thompson, and Tari (Cary) Olson, Bismarck; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Josh and Jerilynn Steier, Brandon, Nicole and Travis Boespflug, Amanda Lynch, Jolene and Megan Olson, and Jayden Steier; and one brother, Victor Anheluk, Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorman; her parents; and one grandson, Ryan Lynch.
Harold Fischer
STEELE -- Harold Fischer, 82, Steele, died April 5, 2000, at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at United Methodist Church, Steele, with the Rev. Rob Olson officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Memorial Chapel, Steele, and will continue one hour prior to services, at the church. Harold was born Jan. 21, 1918 to William and Christina (Klein) Fischer in Streeter, N.D. He married Florence Remmick on Sept. 15, 1940 at Florence's parents home in Steele. He farmed with his father until he married Florence. He then worked for the railroad for a couple of years, returning to farming and driving school bus. They moved to Steele in 1971 retiring from the farm. He retired from school bus driving in 1985. He was an assessor for Pleasant Hill Township and was a member of the Driscoll Men's Club. He attended the United Methodist Church in Steele. Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting, cards and gardening. Harold is survived by his wife, Florence, Steele; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Paulette, Driscoll, and Daryl and Marty, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Florine and Robert Germain, Lakewood, Colo., and Sharon and Lyle Christensen, Bismarck; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Reuben and Mary Fischer, Sturgis, S.D., Melvin and Viola Fischer, Mandan, Raymond Fischer, Steele, and Wilmer and Polly Fischer, Washburn; and one sister, Edna Remmick, Steele. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one great-grandson, Gregory Dickson.
A.N. (Tony) Hatzenbuhler
A.N. (Tony) Hatzenbuhler, 85, 408 15th St. N.W., Mandan, died April 5, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Robert Feeney officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Moose Ritual will be held at 7 p.m., a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Parish Vigil at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Saturday, until time of services. A.N. (Tony) Hatzenbuhler was born Aug. 13, 1914, to Nick and Celestine (Leingang) Hatzenbuhler in St. Anthony, N.D. He was raised on a farm and educated in the St. Anthony and Solen areas. He worked for the Farmers Elevator in Solen from 1934 until the fall of 1936. He married Louise Geiger on Oct. 1, 1935 at the Sacred Heart Church at Solen. Tony and Louise moved to Dawson, in the fall of 1936 where he managed the Farmers Elevator for one year. They moved back to Solen, where he managed the GTA elevator for 20 years. They then moved to a farm which was located a quarter of a mile north of Solen. Tony and Louise farmed there until November 1970, at which time they retired and moved to Mandan, where he lived until the time of his death. He served as a trustee of the Sacred Heart Church in Solen for many years. He also served on the Ambulance Butte School Board. He was active on the Morton County Organization Board, and was a member of the Eagles, Moose, and the Mandan Knights of Columbus. He loved to play cards, dance, camp, fish and travel. Tony and Louise enjoyed traveling with friends and relatives. Tony is survived by his wife, Louise of 64 1/2 years, Mandan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Frank George, Solen, Shirley and Earl Heinert, Bismarck, and Donna and Allan Belinskey, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Carol Hatzenbuhler, Solen; 14 grandchildren; 23 grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, John P. and Florence Hatzenbuhler, Solen; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty Kautzman, Kent, Wash., Rose and Tony Geiss, Solen, and Mag Balkowitsch, Caroline and Al Kuntz, and Irene Glasser, all of Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Nicholas; one grandson, Frank Darwin George; one brother and sister-in-law, Jacob and Francis Hatzenbuhler; one sister at birth; and three brothers-in-law, Bob Balkowitsch, Lawrence Glasser and Tony Kautzman. Tony always had time to help people in need. He was a true friend, a special husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He will be missed and loved by his family and friends.

Alma H. Shepherd
Alma H. Shepherd, 84, Bismarck, died April 5, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Hazelton Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ben Dove officiating. Burial will be in Hazelton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Alma was born on a farm east of Hazelton on March 30, 1916 to William and Martha (Naumann) Beseler. She was the fourth child of eight children. She attended a country school and lived on the family farm until she married Charles A. Shepherd on July 15, 1936 in Linton. Charlie and Alma made their home on a farm five miles east of Hazelton where they engaged in farming and raising cattle. Alma was well known for her wonderful cooking. She was an active member in Ladies Aid, homemakers and Eastern Star. She enjoyed doing needlework, quilting, and crocheting as well as having a green thumb. Her family was the most important part of her life, especially her great-granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Bryant, Bismarck; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Paul Richard Beseler, Green Cove Springs, Fla.; and two sisters, Gladys Becker, Buffalo City, Wis., and June Gustafson, Minneapolis. She has many nieces and nephews who also loved her dearly and she will be missed by all. Alma was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
