LaMOURE -- Harvey Olson, 74, LaMoure, died Dec. 26, 2000, in the LaMoure care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, LaMoure. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two sons, Terry, Moorhead, Minn., and Barry, Fargo; one daughter, Sherri Rubeck, Cheyenne, Wyo.; one brother, Donald, LaMoure; one sister, Dona Tostenson, Madison, S.D.; and nine grandchildren. Monica Paul
Monica Paul, 82, Mandan, died Dec. 25, 2000, in a Mandan care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Revs. Patrick Schumacher and Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Monica (Eckroth) Paul was born Nov. 5, 1918, in Mandan. She was the daughter of the late John P. and Elizabeth (Wetsch) Eckroth. Monica was raised and educated in Mandan. On Oct. 17, 1939, she married Joseph J. Paul in St. Anthony. Monica worked at Knights of Columbus as a cook and did volunteer work for St. Vincent DePaul and RSVP. She was a member of St. Joseph Circle and Catholic Daughters. Monica is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Aldean, Jerry and JoAnn, and Bob and Peggy, all of Mandan, and Matt and Kathy, Valley, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Loretta, Helena, Mont., John and Marilyn, Coleharbor, and Gary and Maureen, Boston, Mass.; seven sisters and five brothers-in-law, Frances and George Paul, Linton, Katherine Schanks, Lyndon, Kan., Mary Eva and Freeman Phillips, Joseph, Ore., Beatrice and Ed Charvat, and Margaret and Bill Paul, all of Bismarck, Hildegard and Larry Henry, McMinnville, Ore., and Judy and Glenn Thiel, Harvey; and one sister-in-law, Eva Eckroth, Mandan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph, who died July 7, 1994; two stepmothers, Anna Wetsch Eckroth and Flora Fried Eckroth; two brothers, Martin and Philip; and one sister, Mary Eva. She is survived by her husband, Herman; one son, Leonard, Goodrich; two daughters, Gladys Degenstein, Anamoose, and Darlene Sattler, Northville, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Freida Frank, Bismarck. SHEYENNE -- Delilah Ebenhahn, 94, Sheyenne, died Feb. 10, 2000, in the Carrington care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne. She is survived by one son, Rodney, Sheyenne; one daughter, Shelley Staley, Seattle; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. (Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford)
Wilma A. Ellingson
Wilma A. Ellingson, 77, Bismarck, died Feb. 11, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. James Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Wilma was born April 23, 1922, in Linton, the daughter of Wilhelm and Magdalena (Dickhoff) Klaudt. She was raised and educated in the Linton area. On Nov. 30, 1940, she and Duke Ellingson were married at Council Bluffs, Iowa. She and Duke lived in various places while he was in the military, and in 1945, they moved to Bismarck. They moved to Williston in1948 and lived there for 25 years. In 1959 they returned to Bismarck where they have lived since. Wilma was an artistic person, making various Christmas ornaments and was a poet laureate. Her passion was cooking. She was a Sunday school teacher while they lived in Williston, and in Bismarck she became a volunteer at Medcenter One Health Systems. She was a member of Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary. She was a great supporter of her husband's theological studies. For the past several years she was a caregiver for her sisters. She is survived by her husband, Duke; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Lowell and Sara, Richland, Wash., Mark, Mandan, and Douglas, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Mark II, Piper, Jeffrey and Levi; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Klaudt, Bismarck; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Janice and Julie. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin; four sisters, Elsie, Alma, Melinda and Esther; and two half-brothers, Henry and Reinhold.

ASHLEY -- Martha Eszlinger, 87, Wishek, died Feb. 5, 2000, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Ashley, with burial in Ashley Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Dale Roth, Temple Hills, Md.; two sisters, Lydia Schilling, Wishek, and Anna Smith, Stockton, Calif.; and two grandsons. (Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley)
Beulah M. Helgerson
Beulah M. Helgerson, 83, New Hope, Minn., died Feb. 1, 2000, in a New Hope care center, where she had lived for six years. A resident of Bismarck from 1949-1962, Beulah is survived by daughters, Eileen Howland and Patricia Tjaden; and her son, John Helgerson. Beulah had 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Beulah was employed by Leach and Kelsch, a Bismarck oil exploration firm, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture until 1962 when she moved to Lomita, Calif. She retired from the U.S. Department of Defense in 1971. A long time, active member of Catholic Daughters and her church, Beulah was a community leader in Lomita involved in improving living conditions and health care services for seniors. Among other accomplishments, she was instrumental in establishing senior housing in Lomita.

Twyla Mae Buffalo Boy
FORT YATES -- Twyla Mae Buffalo Boy, 46, Fort Yates, died Feb. 11, 2000, in her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Episcopal Church, Cannon Ball, with the Rev. John Floberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. A wake will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Fort Yates. Twyla was born Aug. 29, 1953, at Mandan, to Pat Two Bears and Evelyn Iron Shields. She was raised and educated in Mandan, and graduated from Fort Yates High School. She attended United Tribes Technical College and Sitting Bull College. Twyla had worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Fort Yates. In 1992, she married Larry Buffalo Boy. He died in1993. She enjoyed fishing with family and friends, dancing and cooking. She is survived by her mother, Evelyn Evans White Cloud, Bismarck; her father, Pat Two Bears, Wakpala, S.D.; one daughter, Angle Silk, Wakpala; two sons, Mitchell Silk and Justin Iron Necklace, both of Fort Yates; five grandchildren, Justice Romero, Lacey Ramey, Maya Iron Necklace, Yasmeen Garter, Taytina Garter; one half-sister, Dorenda Two Bears, Minneapolis; three brothers, Harold Iron Shield and Maynard Two Bears, both of Bismarck, and Kenneth Two Bears, Fort Yates; two half-brothers, Willard Two Bears, and Pat Two Bears Jr., both of Wakpala. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, James Silk; and one sister, Matilda White Eagle.
Valerie H. Ciaverella
Valerie H. Ciaverella, 56, 808 13th Ave. N.W., Mandan, died Feb. 12, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be said at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Valerie Reis, the daughter of Met and Josephine (Randich) Ciaverella, was born June 22, 1943, in Bismarck. She ws raised and educated in Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1961. On Jan. 21, 1967, she was united in marriage to Ken Ciavarella in Bismarck. Valerie worked at Q&R Clinic as a receptionist for 19 years. She recently worked for HMR Home Med Resources at Medcenter One until April 1999. Valerie was one in a million. She had a great disposition, always happy and outgoing. She enjoyed being around people and she had a special way of making someone smile. She loved to dance and always had music playing. Her favorite place to relax was at their cabin at Brush Lake. Valerie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Ken; one son, Chris, Mandan; one daughter and son-in-law, Chantel and Shawn Julson, Mandan; two grandsons, Michael and Anthony Julson, Mandan; her parents, Mel and Josephine Reis, Bismarck; two sisters and one brother-in-law, her twin sister, Vicki Schafer, Bismarck, and Cletus and Larry Brewster, Kansas City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and one brother-in-law, Andy Schafer.

Pauline Hoffman
Pauline Hoffman, 76, 413 W. Meadow Lane, Mandan, died Feb. 11, 2000, at her home with her loving husband of 55 years at her side. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, with Deacon Dave Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be said at 7:30 tonight. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Gary; two sons-in-law, Gary Rader and Darrell Freidig; six brothers, Nick, Mike, Tim, Marcus, Johnny and Jack; and two sisters, Frances and Katie. Ralph L. Kemnitz
DICKINSON -- Memorial services for Ralph L. Kemnitz, 82, Dickinson, will be held at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, with inurnment Thursday in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. He died Feb. 12, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Ralph L. "Boots" Kemnitz was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Frank and Lana Kemnitz (South Dakota Mother of the Year in 1959). He was educated in the Aberdeen school system through his college graduation from Northern in 1940. He married Delphia Benscoter on June 9, 1941, while he was a member of the United States Armed Forces. Boots' Army career took him through 35 states and several European countries, including France, Germany, Luxemburg and Belgium. His assignments included underwater demolitions, duty as head instructor of a comando unit where he trained men in hand to hand combat and judo, and commanding a German prisoner of war camp at Rheims, France. Following his discharge in 1946 at the rank of captain, he coached and taught at Lemmon, S.D., where his team continues to hold the record for most consecutive wins in basketball. He taught history, ever a love of his, and science. Boots opened a clothing store in Bowman in 1948, where he remained for 20 years prior to embarking on a new career in the insurance business. He retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1984. He continued his military experience as a member of the National Guard. He formed a Guard unit in Bowman, and was recalled to active duty during the Korean crisis with that unit. Upon release from active duty once more, he rejoined the South Dakota Army National Guard and served until his retirement in 1962. An outstanding athlete in high school and college, Kemnitz earned 10 college letters, and was honored by being inducted to the Athletic Hall of Fame at Northern College in 1987. An ardent fan of his adopted athletics program, he is a former member of the Board of Directors of Dickinson State University Blue Hawks Booster Club. In 1988 he was the first to receive its honorary letterman's award. Boots was a genuine character as many of his friends, family and others will attest. His antics on and off the golf course are legendary. Boots is survived by his beloved wife, Delphia; three sons, Ralph A. "Chip", Philip, S.D., Larry L., Bismarck, and Michael L., Oakley, Calif.; and one daughter, Rochelle L. Langer, Lincoln. He prized his daughters-in-law, Julianne, Shirley and Marlene. He doted on his 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his three sisters; one brother; one son, Gary; and two granddaughters.
