She was united in marriage to Melvin Johnson on Oct. 28, 1949 at Cando. They first lived at Cando for a time before moving to Tioga, during the first discovery of oil. Frenchie's husband, Melvin, was employed in oil field construction. In 1959, they moved to Ray. Frenchie, after her children were old enough, began working as a waitress first at the Snow White Diner, and later at the Parkway Cafe. She also was well respected in day care and over the years devoted herself to many families in Ray who needed quality daycare for their children. On Sept. 15, 1969, her husband, Melvin was killed in a motor vehicle accident. Frenchie continued to live in Ray until retiring to Williston in 1991. She enjoyed baking for her family and friends, playing games with her grandchildren, tending to her flowers, socializing with her many friends and actively participating in her church. Diabetes had become a constant restraint for Frenchie, having a need for dialysis 3 times a week for the past 5 years, would be more than most people could tolerate, but she made the best of it, made new friends each time she needed to go to the hospital for her treatments and never really allowed the disease to get her down.
