WILLISTON -- Esther Mildred Stromme, 83, Williston, died May 6, 2000 in a Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Faith Lutheran Church, north of Williston, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by one son, Dennis, Zahl; four daughters, Phylis Stromme, Kennewick, Wash., Dianne Stromme Mast, Millersburg, Ohio, Jane Bowling, Brewster, Ohio, and Shirley Stromme Schlabach; one brother, Syvert Mahlen, Williston; and five sisters, Ella Vanatta, Florence Norby and Myrtle Cain, all of Williston, Laura Hovland, Port Orchard, Wash., and Pearl Berwick, Bainville, Mont. Carl Two Horses
Carl Two Horses, 61, Seattle, Wash., formerly of Cannon Ball, died May 8, 2000 in Seattle. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Veteran's Memorial Building, with the Rev. Norman Bluecoat officiating. Burial will be in Big Lake Cemetery, Cannon Ball. A wake service begins at 5 p.m. Thursday also at the Veteran's Memorial Building. Carl was born Feb. 8, 1939 in Cannon Ball to Francis and Alice (Big Head) Two Horses. He was raised and educated in Cannon Ball and graduated from Flandreau, S.D. High School. He also attended Boone College, Boone, Kan., Northwest Indian Bible School, Alberton, Mont., and Bismarck State College, Bismarck. He worked as an orderly in nursing homes and hospitals and loved working with the elderly. He also enjoyed doing beadwork and as a child he loved riding horses, swimming and fishing. He is survived by one sister and her husband, LaVerne and Eugene Junker; two aunts, Regina Grant, Cannon Ball, and Alma Mentz, Fort Yates; two uncles, Pat and Sidney Ramsey, both of Cannon Ball; and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Melda Duncan and Grace Gobert; and three brothers, Harding, Grady and Raymond Two Horses. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)
William Howard Anderson
VALLEY CITY -- Services for William "Bill" Howard Anderson, 75, Valley City, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Faith Lultheran Church, Valley City, with the Rev. Thomas Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Valley City, with military rites by VFW Post 2764 of Valley City. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Home, Valley City, and will continue at the church one hour before services. William "Bill" Howard Anderson was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Valley City, the firstborn son of Henry and Myrtle Eleanor "Babe" (Olson) Anderson. He grew up and attended school in Valley City. In 1942, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Alabama. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On Dec. 19, 1947, he married Marilyn Rose Wallace in Minneapolis. Except for a few years in Southern California, Marilyn and Bill lived and resided in Valley City. Marilyn died on Dec. 30, 1997. Bill was a talented contractor and he and his dad built many homes in Valley City. He was regarded as a good quality builder and was in much demand for jobs of all sizes. He was affectionately known as "Wild Bill." After retirement (or almost), Wild Bill got his greatest joy spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved to just take off on the spur of the moment to visit family and friends or even to make new friends. Bill was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Valley City, U.S.S. Alabama Crewmen's Association BB60, 10th Division; Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of American Legion, both in Valley City; and a member of "The Twelve." He is survived by his mother, Myrtle Eleanor "Babe" Anderson, Valley City; three children and their spouses, Terry and Julie Anderson, Bismarck, Kerry and Ilene Anderson, Valley City, and Katherine (Anderson) and Todd Harms, Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Teresa Anderson, Angela (Anderson) and Ben Neigum, Jill Anderson, Jenna Anderson, Alexandra Harms, Sean Harms; and a niece, Barbara (Bridell) Menz and her family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his father, Henry; and his sister, Jane (Anderson) Bridell. Bill will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. He will not be forgotten.
John W. Bahm
NEW SALEM -- John W. Bahm, 85, New Salem, died Dec. 12, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Friday at St. Pius Catholic Church, New Salem, with the Rev. David Zimmer officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. CST Friday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by Gilbert N. Nelson VFW Post 1326, Bismarck. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. MST Thursday at the church, where a parish vigil and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. MST Thursday. John Bahm was born June 15, 1915, south of New Salem, to John and Sarah (Whitney) Bahm. He was educated in area schools. As a young man he worked for ranchers in the Flasher and Shields area. He later worked for Zweifle Motors and Riedinger Motors in Mandan. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 1942, and served in the South Pacific as a member of the Seabees. He was honorably discharged in November 1945 and returned to Riedinger Motors. On April 28, 1949, he married Ottilia (Tillie) Matz, at St. Joseph's Church in Mandan. In 1954 John and his family moved to the family farm south of New Salem. John was a man of all trades doing mechanic work for all the family and neighbors, driving school bus and doing carpentry work. He loved his farm. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a story to share. He was a member of John Repsdorf American Legion Post 91 of New Salem, and a life member of Gilbert N. Nelson VFW Post 1326 of Bismarck. He served as director of the New Salem Rural Fire District for more than 25 years. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Tillie; four daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Bob Burckhardt, Bismarck, Susan and Rob Haugen, Fargo, Delilah and Bob Peschel, Laquey, Mo., and Juanita and Don Achtenberg, New Leipzig; four sons and two daughters-in-law, William and Janet, Almont, Richard and Trish, Mandan, and Ned and Daniel, New Salem; 15 grandchildren, Jessica and Edward Bahm, Almont, Jeremy and Thomas Haugen, Fargo, Benjamin and Lindsey Peschel, Laquey, Miranda, Cassandra, Nathaniel and Matthew Achtenberg, New Leipzig, and Johnathan, Heather, Michael and Kenneth Bahm, Mandan. No grandchildren could have asked for a greater grandpa, always taking joy in their accomplishments and sharing his life experiences with them. John was preceded in death by his parents; and all his siblings, two sisters, Gertrude Teslow and Dorothy Gilbert; and three brothers, Harry, Laurence and Virgil.
Robert G. Bickert
WASHBURN -- Robert G. Bickert, 89, Bismarck, formerly of Washburn, died Dec. 9, 2000, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church, Washburn, with the Rev. Rod Tkach officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Robert George Bickert was born Sept. 5, 1911, at Washburn to William J. and Belle (McCafferty) Bickert. He grew up in Washburn and graduated from Washburn High School in 1928. He attended North Dakota State University at Fargo and then returned to Washburn to farm and ranch eight miles south of Washburn. He married Henrietta Battey on Nov. 5, 1933, at Shelby, Iowa, and they made their home on the farm south of Washburn. They moved to Wilton in 1945, and in 1948 moved to Shelby, where they lived during the winter months. While living in Iowa they would return to their farm south of Washburn in the summer months during the farming season. In 1954 they moved into Washburn. He retired from farming in 1977. Henrietta died on June 11, 1982. In 1993, Bob became a resident of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck. He had served on the board of directors of the Washburn Farmers Union Oil Co., and was a past member of Washburn Senior Citizens. He was a member of Washburn United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and shooting pool. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Douglas Hultberg, Minot, and Jane Remmen, Marshfield, Wis.; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Rosie, East Lansing, Mich., and Richard and Carla, Washburn; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Gail and Marvin Landgren, Wilton, and Earl Jennings, Fargo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one sister, Betty.

Delores Mae Stroh
Delores Mae Stroh, 65, Bismarck, formerly of Tappen, died Dec. 9, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tappen, with the Rev. William Russow officiating. Burial will be in Fisher Cemetery, Tappen. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, 1-9 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Steele Chapel, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Eastgate Steele Chapel. Delores Berreth was born July 21, 1935, at Bismarck, the daughter of John and Pauline (Mueller) Berreth. She grew up and attended school at Dawson. On April 14, 1951, she married Harold Stroh in Tappen. They lived on a farm south of Tappen. In June of 2000, she moved to Bismarck. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, bowling, traveling, playing bingo, and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of the Tappen Homemakers Club. Delores is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and Dennis Fike, Fargo, Karen and Rodney Bodvig, Tappen, Patricia and Nick Jahnke, Sterling, Tammie Stalcup and Don Meidinger, Bismarck, Shannon and Bruce Thorsness, Foley, Minn., and Shelly and Rick Puklich, Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Twyla Stroh, Tappen, and Kent and Karissa, West Fargo; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Marlin and Donna Berreth, Tappen, and Raymond and Bernie Berreth, Bismarck; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
