Edwin Kirschmann
MOTT -- Edwin Kirschmann, 70, Mott, died Feb. 3, 2000, in a Rapid City, S.D. hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST today at Zoar Congregational Church, Mott, with the Rev. Corey Warner officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott. His sons and brother, Ted Kirschmann, will serve as casketbearers, with all friends and family considered honorary bearers. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services. Edwin Kirschmann was born July 15, 1929, at his parents' farm home, rural Regent. His parents were Jacob and Lydia (Schauer) Kirschmann. He was raised in the Regent-Mott area and attended a rural school near the Kirschmann farm. He began farming at an early age with his family, later farming north of Burt, and at the Beisigl ranch south of Bentley with his brother, John D. He was married to Beverly Shupe in 1950, at Missoula, Mont., and to this union seven children were born. In 1960, the family moved to Rockford, Ill., where he worked in a factory, later starting his own business of remodeling, painting, carpentry and property management. He moved to Black Duck, Minn., in 1974, returning to Rockford in 1979. He was married to Nancy E. Gray on Dec. 20, 1980, at Rockford. He continued to operate his business there until retiring to Eagar, Ariz., in 1993. They moved to Mott in August of 1997, to be near his cousins and friends in his hometown area. Edwin loved to garden, raise flowers, and help in the work and ministry of his church. He was a member and trustee of the Zoar Congregational Church in Mott, and had helped build Assemblies of God in New England, Mott and Missoula, Mont. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Gregory and Sandy, Kona, Hawaii, Jeffrey and Patty, Roscoe, Ill., Michael and Mary Kay, Winona, Minn., Randall and Ruth, Windom, Minn., and Matthew, Rockford, Ill.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Kevin Flosi, Cherry Valley, Ill., and Janelle and John Brandon, Byron, ILl.; one stepson, Garwood Gray, Lincoln, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Jacob III and Dorothy, Fred C. and Doris, and Bernard and Anita, all of Bismarck, Paul, LaSeluna Beach, Calif., and Ted and Diana, Missoula; 11 sisters and eight brothers-in-law, Pauline and Harry Zielke, British Columbia, Canada, Lydia and Les Tabish, Missoula, Emma and John Wilkinson, Bertha and Ed Olson, and Esther Schroeder, all of Great Falls, Mont., Eva and Ervin Eder, Sun City West, Ariz., Caroline and Ray Keller, Big Fork, Mont., Ruth Ginzinger, Contonment, Fla., Maria Hendricks, LaSeluna Beach, Clara Ruff, Salt Lake City, and Rosella and Clyde Morrison, Yakima, Wash.; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John D. and Christ. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott)

George Jerome Mischel
STRASBURG -- George Jerome Mischel, 89, Strasburg, and formerly of Linton, died Feb. 2, 2000, in the Strasburg care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, with the Rev. Bruce Krebs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. George Jerome Mischel was born on April 30, 1910, at Dickinson, the son of George and Mathilda (Beespflug) Mischel. On June 21, 1937, he married Eleanor Hartman in Fayette. After graduating from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, he worked for Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. as a district manager in both Elgin and Linton, and retired after 38 years of service. George also worked as the projectionist at the Linton theater and drive-in theater for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Anthony's Catholic Church, where he had served as a cantor and choir member. George was a past member of the Linton School Board and the Linton Lions Club. George cherished the warmth and fellowship of family and friends. He enjoyed entertaining and was an avid wine enthusiast. His hobbies included gardening, sports, music, reading, traveling and wine-making. He was also a member of a local bridge club. George lived his faith as a loving husband and father. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Eleanor Mischel, Strasburg; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Duane and Carol Mischel, Waterford, Wis., and Larry and Barbara Mischel, Los Osos, Calif., Joseph and Jen Mischel, Eden Prairie, Minn., Gregory and Luci Mischel, Two Harbors, Minn., and Dan Mischel, Highland Ranch, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Richard Lorenz, Dell Rapids, S.D., Terri and Rod Long, Upper Sandusky, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Veronica Ehrmantraut, Dickinson. George was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters; two half-brothers; and one half-sister. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Valborg Opdahl
MANFRED -- Valborg Opdahl, 97, Manfred, died Feb. 9, 2000, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Vang Lutheran Church, Manfred. Further arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Geraldine R. Peske
Geraldine R. Peske, Bismarck, died Feb. 10, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital after a short battle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Geri was born July 6, 1923, on Good Hope Farm, east of Adrian, the daughter of Cyrus and Josephine (Solberg) Danuser. She graduated from Marion High School and Jamestown College, and taught math for one year at Edgeley. In 1947, she married Robert C. Peske in Jamestown. They lived in various North Dakota communities, including Mohall, Minot and Dickinson, prior to settling in Bismarck in 1958. She was active in several Bismarck organizations, including Bismarck Welcome Wagon, Republican Women, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Choir, Great Plains Jazz Society, and Zonta International. She was employed for many years with Provident Life Insurance Co., and for a time, also managed Bismarck Community Homes Apartment Complex. Geri was an avid follower of her grandchildren's many activities, loved "babysitting" the family dogs and eagerly worked the soil of her beloved garden each year. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Barb, and Bob and Pam, all of Bismarck; one daughter, Mary Monette, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Kara Peske, Eagan, Minn.; Riel, Colin, Winonah and Eli Monette, Grand Forks, Rob and Tim Peske, Bismarck; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Gerald Danuser, Good Hope Farm, and Chester and Helen Danuser, Milledgeville, Ga.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Luverne and Norman McKee, Florence, S.C., and Adeline and Leon Kirschenmann, Adrian; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Peske, Arizona; and one brother-in-law, Bob Blust, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on March 3, 1981.

Elner L. Petersen
WASHBURN -- Elner L. Petersen, 89, Underwood, died Feb. 10, 2000, in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. He is survived by his wife, Luella; three daughters, Adelle Cerruti, Fremont, Calif., Marge Martin, Underwood, and Connie Serhienko, Mandan; one son, Wayne, Washburn; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Cecelia Richter
SYKESTON -- Cecelia Richter, 57, Sykeston, died Feb. 10, 2000, in the Carrington hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Sykeston. Further arrangements are pending at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Beatrice A. Stewart
Beatrice A. Stewart, 70, Bismarck, died Feb. 8, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glencoe Sloan Memorial Presbyterian Church, rural Bismarck, with Chaplain Bernie Kunz officiating. Burial will be in Stewartsdale Cemetery, rural Bismarck. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services. She was born Nov. 1, 1929, in Mandan, the daughter of Angus and Phoebe (Burch) Stewart. She was raised and educated in the Stewartsdale area, and lived the remainder of her life in the Bismarck area. She spent the last 18 years with Pride and Enable, Inc. She was very fond of children and spent a great deal of time caring for the children of family and friends. Beatrice was a very happy person and enjoyed life to the fullest. She is survived by one sister, Thelma Saxby, Bismarck; six nephews, David McMurrick, Danial McLean, Allen and John Stewart, Melvin and Brian Saxby; eight nieces, Rachel Saxby, Trudy Stewart, Phyllis Kepler, Karen Bowser, Mary Howell, Margaret Taskila, Colleen Richter and Virginia Vedvick; and 17 grandnieces and grandnephews. Beatrice was preceded in death by three sisters, Marietta McMurrick, Janet McLean and Effie Mae Stewart; two infant sisters, Rena and Flora; and one brother, Donald A. Stewart.

Edward Weisbeck
HERREID, S.D. -- Edward Weisbeck, 83, Herreid, died Feb. 7, 2000, in the Mobridge hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Herreid, with the Revs. Jim Friedrich and Bruce Krebs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services. Edward Raymond Weisbeck was born April 14, 1916, to John and Catherine (Hammersmith) Weisbeck on a farm near Herreid. He grew up on this farm and attended a country school near Herreid. He then enlisted in the U.S. Armed forces and served his country in World War II. On Dec. 26, 1962, he married Frances (Gustin) Hendrickson in Mandan. He had lived on the family farm until September of 1979 when he moved to Linton. He enjoyed farming and caring for his animals. Since his retirement from farming he has enjoyed playing cards, caring for his yard, gardening and traveling. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and American Legion. He is survived by one son, Vernon Hendrickson, Enumclaw, Wash.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tillie and Jerome Weisbeck, Herreid, Bernice and John Pudwill, herreid, and Linda and John Sobelewski, North Platte, Neb.; two sisters, Mary Brandner, Herreid, and Gertrude Almich, Cheyenne, Wyo.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine; his wife, Frances, in 1999; three brothers, Herman, John and Frank; three sisters, Agnes, Helen and Suzy; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. Casketbearers will be his grandsons, Mark Hendrickson, Brian Hendrickson, Kevin Weisbeck, Ken Weisbeck, Kurt Weisbeck, Kory Weisbeck, Dan Sobelewski, Joshua Sobelewski, Sam Sobelewski, Scott Pudwill and Stacy Pudwill. Gift bearers will be his granddaughters, Sarah Sobelewski, Kari Weisbeck, Kim Morast and Sonja Wald. Eucharistic ministers will be Maynard Wittmeier and Helen Thullner. George Gustin will serve as reader. The organist will be Angela Vetter, and the choir will sing "Amazing Grace," "On Eagles Wings," "How Great Thou Art," and "Be Not Afraid."

GOODRICH -- Hildegard Bonnet, 80, rural Goodrich, died Feb. 9, 2000 in the Harvey nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Roger L. Carlisle
Roger L. Carlisle, 82, Ames, Iowa, and formerly of Bismarck, died Feb. 8, 2000 in an Ames hospital. A private family service will be held. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery, Ames, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Alice; one son, Michael, Ames; one daughter, Andrea Carlisle, Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. (Steven's Memorial Chapel, Ames)

REEDER -- Glenn Hofland, 87, Reeder, died Feb. 8, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Reeder. Burial will be in Hettinger Cemetery. He is survived by four sons, Brad, Spearfish, S.D., Ronald, Reeder, Neil, Bowman, and Arlan, Dickinson; two daughters, Donna Olson, Zap, and Roberta McCoy, Birmingham, Ala.; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Verna Siverhus, Montevideo, Minn. LINTON -- Ralph Jahner, 58, North Glen, Colo., and formerly of Linton, died Feb. 8, 2000 in a North Glen care center of Lou Gehrig's Disease. Arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Sarah "Sallie" McNaney
KILLDEER -- Sarah "Sallie" Erzinger McNaney, 71, Killdeer, and formerly of Grassy Butte, died Feb. 8, 2000 in the Killdeer nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Saturday, at Grassy Butte Community Hall. Burial will be in Grassy Butte Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Charles McNaney, Grassy Butte, and John McNaney, Livermore, Calif.; two daughters, Mary Yount, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Margaret Fabrizius, Roseburg, Ore.; five grandchildren and two step-granddaughters. NEW ROCKFORD -- Harold D. Roberts, 69, New Rockford, died Feb. 8, 2000 in a Carrington health center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at First Lutheran Church, New Rockford, with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey. He is survived by his wife, Mavis; three sons, Doug, Dickinson, Daryl and David, both of New Rockford; three daughters, Beverly Clifton, New Rockford, Renae Ihringer, Mandan, and Jacqueline Schroeder, Carrington; and his mother, Lydia Roberts, New Rockford; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tillie H. Schroeder
Mrs. Tillie H. (Fried) Schroeder, 82, Billings, Mont., went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 9, 2000, at her home. Services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the First Free Will Baptist Church, Billings, Mont., and Grace Lutheran Church, Driscoll, N.D., at 11 a.m. Saturday. Memorials are to be made to the church and burial will be in Driscoll Cemetery. Tillie was born Sept. 14, 1917, to Thomas and Karolina (Dewald) Mertz at the homestead 12 miles northeast of Goodrich, N.D. She married William Fried on May 1, 1937, and William passed away on Sept. 4, 1973. To this union were born nine children and one child prior to this union. She then married Gordon Edward Schroeder on May 4, 1982, adding seven more children into her family. Tillie was a farm wife 36 years and then she did some traveling alone and with Gordon after their marriage. She was a very loving, caring and God-fearing sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading very much along with self-doctoring throughout her life. Survivors include her sisters: Clara Mertz, Olga Wainio and Verna Eckholm; her sons: Roy Kozitsky, Pismo Beach, Calif., Willard (Norma) Fried, Portland Ore., Ileen Fried, Pocatello, Idaho, William "Bill" (Ann) Fried, Billings Mont., Gary Fried and Arnie Fried, Bismarck, N.D., Art (Linda) Fried, Spokane, Wash., Dennis (Judy) Fried, Bismarck; her daughters: Lorraine (Rueben) Eckman and Angie-Florence (Dick) Seabury, Billings Mont.; 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death is her first husband, William, "Bill"; and second husband, Gordon; and one son, Herb (Hilbert) Fried.
