NEW ROCKFORD -- Alberta Mae (Ensor) Schroeder, 91, New Rockford, formerly of Kensal, died Feb. 7, 2001, in the New Rockford nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Kensal. Burial will be in Kensal Cemetery. She is survived by one son, Estern, Yakima, Wash.; two daughters, Diana Peterson, Trevor, Wis., and Alberta March, Tuttle; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Marion Syvrud
Marion Syvrud, 88, Mandan, died Feb. 5, 2001, at her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at American Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Norman Beighley officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. There will be no visitation at the church. Marion was born May 13, 1912, in Valley City, the eldest of six children born to Carl and Anna (Weberg) Larson. Her father was employed by the North Dakota State Mill and Elevator which transferred him to Mandan when Marion was a young child. She moved to Grand Forks with her family and graduated from Central High School. She then attended Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing for three years. In Valley City on May 29, 1935, she married Sigurd Syvrud of Mandan, who had been smitten with young Marion when she and her family lived there. They made their home in Mandan, where she devoted herself fully and completely to the roles of wife to "Sig" and later, mother to her three sons. After the boys were prepared to begin their own lives away from home, Marion resumed her life of giving to others as a registered nurse at the Bismarck Hospital where she was employed from 1953 until 1972. Her reading and study of the scriptures was of great importance, but she had an active intellect and also maintained an interest in current events, politics, sports and much more throughout her life. Part of her legacy to her children is the example she, as well as "Sig," set regarding the importance of faith in Jesus Christ, and the nurturing of a strong sense of that faith in their children. Marion is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and June, Polson, Mont., Richard and Karen, Kenai, Alaska, and Gerald and Kay, Hawley, Minn.; six grandsons; three granddaughters; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sigurd, who died June 15, 1996; and her five younger siblings, three brothers and two sisters.
Edna Unterseher
BEULAH -- Edna Unterseher, 86, Beulah, died Feb. 7, 2001, in the Beulah care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kris Nyman officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, north of Dunn Center. Edna was born June 3, 1914, at Mannhaven, N.D., to Bernard and Karoline (Weisenburger) Kilber. On Nov. 11, 1934, she married Jake Unterseher at Red Butte, N.D. They made their home north of Killdeer until 1949, when they moved to a farm near Hazen. In 1954, they made their home on a farm south of Beulah until Jake passed away on Nov. 14, 1996, at which time she moved to Beulah. The last 3 1/2 months she resided at the Knife River Care Center. Edna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included making beautiful doll dresses and giving the dolls to her family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking, especially German food. She is survived by her children, two sons and three daughters-in-law, Cary Unterseher, Mandan, Marvin and Connie Unterseher, Velva, and Arvid and Virginia Unterseher, Longmont, Colo.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marlene Buehner, Beulah, Luella and Albert Kroh, Mandan, and Bonnie and David Horn, Longmont; two sisters, Elsie Morast, Terry, Mont., and Ella Huber, Cheney, Wash.; one brother, Arnold Kilber, Mott; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; one son, Allan; her parents; and three sisters, Hertha Wolf, Olga Schuh and Alvina Grosz. Alice Mae Durant Walgren, 84, Seattle, formerly of McKenzie, died Jan. 20, 2001, in Seattle. A memorial service was held Jan. 27 in Seattle. She is survived by her husband, Earl, Seattle; three daughters, Darlene Iszley, Seattle, Lenora Bader, Ellensburg, Wash., and Linda Walgren Yeo, Everett, Wash.; and five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

BOWMAN -- Gilla D. Woffard, 102, Bowman, died Feb. 7, 2001, in the Bowman care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST today at Krebsbach Funeral Service Chapel, Bowman. Burial will be in Spurlock Family Cemetery, Glenwood, W.Va., at a later date. She is survived by one son, Russell Brown Sr.; two sisters, Floye Beam, Louisville, Ken., and Geneva Downey, Virden, Ill.; one grandson; and several great-grandchildren. Adelbert W. Zander
Adelbert "Del" W. Zander, 90, 1822 N. Fourth St., Bismarck, died Jan. 30, 2001, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Visitation, without viewing, will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Adelbert, or "Del" as he was better known, was born Jan. 9, 1911, in Dickinson, the son of Albert and Emma (Diers) Zander, who farmed south of Dickinson. Before beginning his 42-year career with Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. in 1934, he had taught school for one year and also worked as a clerk at JC Penney in Dickinson. His service with MDU began in Dickinson, moving on to Bismarck, Great Falls, Mont., Havre, Mont., and Miles City, Mont. He worked in Rapid City, S.D., for eight years before moving to the general office in Minneapolis. He then moved to Bismarck in September of 1968 and had continued to live there since then. Del served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from February of 1942 until November of 1945. For most of that time, he was stationed in the South Pacific in New Caledonia. In 1947, Del married Valborg C. Bruckneberg in Montana on December 26. The family enjoyed camping when his girls were children. Del also enjoyed golfing and bowling, carpentry, cars and motors. During his lifetime, he was very active in community affairs and church -- especially in Miles City and Rapid City. Much of his activity in Boy Scouts, Kiwanis and church dealt with the youth and youth programs. Del had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck from 1937 to 1940 before moving to Great Falls and then resumed membership in 1969 after his return to Bismarck. Del is survived by his wife of 53 years, Valborg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Janet and Mark Ellenberger, West St. Paul, Minn., and Arla and Joe Frechette, Newport, Ore.; three grandchildren, Erin and David Creech, Salem, Ore., Luke Frechette, Ashland, Ore., and Evan Ellenberger, West St. Paul; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Iva Zander, Clovis, Calif., and Ray and Doris Zander, Dickinson; one sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Clarence Sperline, Kennewick, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roland, and Austin and his wife, Margit; and one nephew, Craig Sperline.

Alma E. Richter
FLASHER -- Alma E. Richter, 89, Flasher, died Feb. 8, 2001, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Monday at American Lutheran Church, Flasher, with the Rev. Ken Trana officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, east of Flasher. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. CST Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Alma was born Jan. 24, 1912, in Flasher, the daughter of Eric and Selma (Persson) Anderson. Her parents died in 1922 and she ws raised by foster parents, Bertha and John Lind. She married Clifford Lawson in 1927. He died in 1946, and she married Leonard Richter in 1948. They farmed southeast of Flasher until they moved into Flasher in 1976. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Imogene Lawson, Federal Way, Wash., Delbert and Verda Lawson, and James and Rosemary Lawson, and Cleo Richter, all of Flasher; her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and William Garlati, Vero Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her brother and sister-in-law, Oscar and Francis Duncan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her husband, Leonard, who died Jan. 10, 1986; her son, Larry Richter, who died in 1951; two sisters and four brothers.
