CARRINGTON -- Virginia Ferrell, 86, Carrington, died Sept. 30, 2000 in a Carrington care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Faith Baptist Church, Carrington, with burial in Missoula City Cemetery at 11 a.m. MDT Friday. She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Ida Galster
BEULAH -- Ida Galster, 72, rural Beulah, died suddenly of natural causes on Oct. 1, 2000 in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Wednesday, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. David Suelzle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 3-8 p.m. MDT today at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen. Ida was born Feb. 3, 1928, north of Hazen, the daughter of Albert and Katherine (Wiedrich) Geist. She was raised and educated north of Hazen. On Oct. 12, 1947, she married Ray Galster at Hazen. They farmed northwest of Hazen their entire married lives. Ida was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen. She enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, cooking and baking. Ida loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Ray; one son and daughter-in-law, DelRay and LaSaan Galster, rural Beulah; three grandchildren, Amanda, Justin and Kristen Galster; and numerous cousins. Edna Steinwand
Edna Steinwand, 82, 107 East Bowen Avenue, Bismarck, died Sept. 30, 2000 in her son's home under the loving care of Hospice and her daughter-in-law. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Olson officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, at Donnybrook Community Cemetery, Donnybrook. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Edna was born Aug. 30, 1918 at Washburn, the daughter of George and Emma Wagner. She was raised and educated in Washburn. On Sept. 27, 1938, she and John Steinwand were married. She was a homemaker most of her life. When her children became school age, she started working in a restaurant and later in a city laundry. She also became a care-giver and took care of people in their homes. Edna was very active in her church and also at the high rise where she lived. She is survived by her sons, Ervin, Fargo, Marvin, Montana, Raymond, California, Donald and his wife, Susan, California, and James and his wife, Karen, Mandan; her daughters, Linda Larson, Colorado, and Sharon Grider, Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son-in-law, one grandson, one granddaughter and all her siblings. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
Donald Streitmatter
GLEN ULLIN -- Donald Streitmatter, 69, Glen Ullin, died Oct. 1, 2000 in Glen Ullin. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt, OSB officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. MDT today at Sacred Heart Church. A prayer service and rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight at the church. Donald was born on Aug. 8, 1931, in Glen Ullin to John and Anna (Schneider) Streitmatter. He was raised and educated and graduated high school at Glen Ullin. He entered the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 3, 1951 and served stateside. He was discharged on Dec. 8, 1954. Following his discharge, he returned to the area where he worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for several years prior to being employed by MDU as a lineman. Every summer for the past 40 years, he and several friends would travel to Canada on an annual fishing trip. He retired in 1990 and enjoyed his time as he was an avid fisherman and hunter. Donald was a member of the Glen Ullin Lions, Fire Department and American Legion. He is survived by one daughter, Valerie (Ken) Weberg, Walker, Minn.; one grandson, Devin; two brothers, Arthur "Butch" (Mitzi), Glen Ullin, and Alan (Elaine), Polson, Mont.; and one sister, Ethelyn (Art) Wilmes, Lake Havasu City, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to the American Cancer Society. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)
Francis V. Tannehill
The Rev. Francis V. Tannehill, 93, Bismarck, died Sept. 30, 2000 in a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Art Scanson and Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. F.V. Tannehill was born July 17, 1907 at Hepler, Kan., the son of the Rev. Ernest H. and Annie Elias Tannehill. Because his father moved frequently as an itinerate Methodist pastor, Francis attended a number of schools in Kansas. He graduated from Leroy Kansas High School in 1926 and then attended Baker University, graduating in 1930. From there he went to Garrett Biblical Institute, now Garrett-Evangelical Theological School, and graduated in the fall of 1932. On June 11, 1932, he married Cecelia S. Cooper, whom he met at Baker University. After graduation from seminary, he was appointed to a Methodist church in Wakefield, Kan., near ancestral homes of his father and mother. In 1937, he moved to Minnesota in order to serve churches at Preston-Lanesboro and later at Albert Lea. In 1949, he was appointed to serve McCabe United Methodist Church in Bismarck and was the pastor during the construction of the present church building and parsonage. After serving McCabe Church for 11 years, he was appointed to First Methodist Church, Fargo, serving there from 1960 to 1966. Later he was pastor of First Methodist Church in Aberdeen, S.D., from 1966 to 1969, and then was Dakota Areas Program Director for the United Methodist Church from 1969 through 1971. In 1971, he returned to Bismarck as Superintendent of the Western District. He continued until his retirement in 1975, having served the United Methodist Church for 45 years. He derived the greatest satisfaction from the years as local pastor in Bismarck and elsewhere. After retirement, he served for a few years as a part time visitation pastor at McCabe Church, where he continued to be active until his death. A passionate belief in God, loyalty to church and friends, warmth of spirit, compassion, and a gentle sense of humor characterized his life. In appreciation of his ministry, McCabe Church designated him "Pastor Emeritus" in 1998. At the age of 91, he was invited to preach at McCabe Church on the 40th anniversary of the opening of the present church building. He was a member of Kiwanis Golden K and a 33rd degree Mason. Still living are Rev. Tannehill's wife, Cecelia and their three sons, Robert and his wife, Alice, Delaware, Ohio, John and his wife, Inta, Lampeter, Penn., and Bruce and his wife, Gail, Whitefish, Mont. He is also survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The great-grandchildren range in ages from 21 years to three months. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to McCabe United Methodist Church. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Gerhardt F. Bruse
Gerhardt F. Bruse, 88, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, died Jan. 16, 2001 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Todd Hylden officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Sterling Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, and one hour prior to the service, all at Eastgate Funeral Service. Gerhardt F. Bruse was born on Dec. 26, 1912 in Litchville, the son of John and Johanna Bruse. On Dec. 19, 1936, Gerhardt married Evelyn Zuraff in Bismarck. They farmed a few years in Litchville before moving to Underwood, where he worked on the Garrison Dam from 1947-1954. Gerhardt was proud to be one of the men to dump the last load of fill dirt on the Garrison Dam. They moved to Bismarck where he worked for the Engineer/Maintenance Office of the State Capitol until retirement. Gerhardt enjoyed antique cars and watching Chuck Norris films during his retirement. He is survived by his children; one daughter, Dorothy Cayce, Minot; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Eileen Bruse, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Debra Peterson, Brian Olson, Donna Wallace, Sherry Schell, Sheila Schumacher and Lori Bruse; four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
