Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Friday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elgin, with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Elgin. He is survived by his wife, Verna; one son, the Rev. Larry Giese, Harvey; one daughter, Diana Fuhrman, Enderlin; one brother, Wilbert, Owattona, Minn.; three sisters, Hertha Beeney, Arvada, Colo., Olivia Miller, Bismarck, and Nelda Vilhauer, Stanton; and three grandchildren. BALDWIN -- Adrian Gorden, 54, Baldwin, died Nov. 6, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be in Baldwin Cemetery. There will be a closed casket, but friends may call from noon-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service. Adrian was born Dec. 8, 1945, at Bismarck, the son of Lawrence and Anstacia (Triska) Gorden. He grew up and attended school at Baldwin. He graduated from Bismarck High School and attended Bismarck State College. He resided in the Baldwin area. He is survived by his mother, Anstacia; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Arlen and Ruby, and Alden and Gail, all of Baldwin; one sister and brother-in-law, Avalyn and Wes Ennen, Menoken; one sister-in-law, Jean Gorden, Bismarck; one brother-in-law, Henry "Hank" Sundquist, Phoenix; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bill Walds, and Bill and Tubb Poppe. He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Alvern; and one sister, Arlene Sundquist.

Leo R. Roethlisberger
HUFF -- Leo R. Roethlisberger, 82, Huff, died Nov. 6, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military rites by Mandan American Legion Post 40. A vigil service will begin at 7 tonight at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, and will continue at the church one hour before services. Leo was born April 9, 1918, in Mandan, to Jake and Helen (Pitzer) Roethlisberger. He was raised and educated in Huff where he farmed with his dad until entering the U.S. Army on Oct. 8, 1942. He landed on D-Day, was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He served until Oct. 25, 1945. On April 24, 1946, he married Gladys Keller in Huff. Together they farmed and raised four children at Huff. Gladys died Nov. 4, 1995. Leo loved to fish and for many years traveled to Wisconsin to fish with his cousins. He was a life member of the American Legion and VFW. He was also a member of the Elks, Battle of the Bulge Association, past Morton County Soil Conservation director and a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church, Huff. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathy Ambler, Marshall, Mich., and Jeanette and Jeff Wachter, Bismarck; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ron and Denice, and Robert, all of Huff; one sister, Sally Altentaler, Sun City, Ariz.; one brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Ginny, Sun City; two grandsons, Leo Ambler, Marshall, and Doug Roethlisberger, Huff, one granddaughter, Renee Bourdeaux, Grand Forks; and a special friend, Evelyn Graner, Huff. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Gladys.

Andrew George Sailer
BEULAH -- Andrew George Sailer, 76, Beulah, died Nov. 6, 2000, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Kris Nyman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by Herman Schmidt VFW Post 7759. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah. Andy was born on a farm southeast of Hazen in Oliver County on July 5, 1924, to George and Regina (DeWald) Sailer. He was the youngest of nine children, three brothers and five sisters. He was confirmed in the German language at Zion Lutheran Church, the spring of 1939. In 1943, Andy graduated from Beulah High School. On Sept. 8, 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and served as a B-24 bomber flight engineer in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 20, 1946. On May 27, 1948, Andy married Irma Miller from Hazen. He worked for various automotive and implement dealers as an accountant, parts and service manager, and salesman. Andy prepared income taxes since 1950. The past few years he painted with his son, Randy. In the past, Andy served as church council secretary and finance committee member at Zion Lutheran Church. He was a VFW charter and lifetime member and an American Legion post commander in Beulah. Andy had a private pilot license and loved to fly. He liked reading, especially westerns, following sports, and doing crossword puzzles. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. Andy will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was an inspiration to them all with his positive attitude and courage during his illness. Andy is survived by his wife, Irma; one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Carlotta Sailer, Beulah; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lona and Robert Moos, Beulah, Peggy and Pat O'Neil, Beulah, and Kim and Bill Roach, Bismarck; five grandchildren, Aaron Moos and his wife, Tiffany, Bozeman, Mont., Kris Moos, Bozeman, Mont., Patrick, Shannon and Ryan O'Neil, both of Beulah; one brother and sister-in-law, Gottholdt and Alvina Sailer; and four sisters, Emma Sasse, Bertha Chruszch, Freida Heihn and Gertie Younker; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hugo and Hildebert; and one sister, Lillian. The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Garman, the Medcenter One staff, Sakakawea Medical Center staff, and Hospice staff for the excellent care Andy received.
Lars Storhaug
Lars Storhaug, 83, Bismarck, died Nov. 6, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre, with the Rev. John H. Nicolai officiating. Burial will be in Tell Cemetery, Kintyre. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday. Lars was born Nov. 6, 1917, in Logan County, the son of Samuel and Clare (Haaland) Storhaug. He attended Kintyre schools and the State School of Science at Wahpeton. He farmed for 64 years in the Kintyre area. On June 21, 1988, he and Olga Pederson Christianson were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. They made their home in Steele for 12 years before retiring and moving to Bismarck. He was a life member of the Sons of Norway and the Eagle's Club. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Lars is survived by his wife, Olga; one brother, Norman, Kintyre; two brothers-in-law, Bruce Brademeyer, Rapid City, S.D., and Albert and Verna Dronen, Driscoll; one sister-in-law, Allene Pederson, Bismarck; his stepchildren, Oreen Ann and David Gardinier, Crosslake, Minn., Lynn Christianson, Mandan, Rachel and Dal Meske, LeSueur, Minn., Milan and Kathy Christianson, Fargo, and Marcia Christianson, Laguna Hills, Calif.; nieces and nephews, Coral and her husband, Bob White, Rapid City, S.D., Karen Brademery, Minneapolis, Judy and her husband, Eric Lang, California, Brian Brademeyer and Boyd Brademeyer, both of Rapid City, S.D., Carrol and his wife, Pauline Pederson, Sumner, Wash., A. Omar and wife, Shirley Pederson, Desert Aire, Wash., Martell and his wife, Joyce Pederson, Driscoll, Gladys Diede, Bismarck, Marion Swenning, Driscoll, and Jeanette and her husband, Bill Whited, Maryville, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Clarice Jensen and Sigrid Brademeyer; and one stepson, Gene Christianson.
Ralph E. Tarnasky
Ralph E. Tarnasky, 76, died Nov. 4, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Rick Fossum officiating. There will be no visitation. He was born in Lehr in 1924. He served in World War II in France until 1946, as a German language interpreter. He attended Ellendale College, North Dakota State University and University of North Dakota, earning bachelor of philosophy and bachelor of science degrees. Later he earned his doctor of medicine degree from Wake Forrest University in North Carolina. After working for three years in general practice, Tarnasky spent four years on the faculty of Bowman-Grey School of Medicine while completing a pathology residency. He worked for one year at the Fargo Clinic, three years director of anatomical pathology in Macon, Ga., and in 1963, he began working at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck. During that time he was also clinical associate professor with the UND School of Medicine, and spent a term as chief of the medical staff. He retired from Pathology Consultants in 1986, and in 1992, took a position as medical laboratory director in the North Dakota State Department of Health. In Bismarck he had been a member of the Methodist Church, the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He served for many years on the Board of Regents for the University of Mary. Ralph was an affectionate husband to his wife, Phyllis, of whom he always said, "She was the best thing that ever happened to me." He cherished his family, his son, Samuel and daughter-in-law, Fong; his daughter, Connie Bauer, and son-in-law, Carl; his son, Dr. Ralph F. and daughter-in-law, Paulette; and his sister, Lillian Loll. He loved his grandchildren, Charles Tarnasky, Jessica and Brett Bauer, and Brigette and Gretchen Tarnasky beyond measure. He was grateful for the joy of friendships, the opportunity for world travel, and was proud of his German from Russia heritage. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol; one sister, Doris Gardner; one brother-in-law, Cyril Loll; and his parents, Sam and Ida Tarnasky. Grace B. White
HETTINGER -- Grace B. White, Hettinger, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died Nov. 6, 2000, at the age of 85, at her home in Hettinger after a long struggle with cancer. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Thursday at First Congregational Church, Hettinger, with the Rev. Robert Boxrud officiating. Burial will be in Hettinger Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers will be Gene Davison, Arnold Adsem, Todd Muggerud, Dan Mercado, Marcus Bakke and Rod Nibbe. Grace B. Bjorum was born Oct. 15, 1915, at Carson, to Edward II and MInnie (Peterson) Bjorum. She lived in New York and Miami and returned to Hettinger in 1945. She was united in marriage to Clarence White in 1947, at Baker, Mont. Grace and Clarence operated White's Hardware and White's Gas Inc. in Hettinger. They started the gas pipeline distribution system in Hettinger, and she was also the bookkeeper. Grace was an active member of First Congregational Church and Women's Fellowship. She was an artist, painting and doing photography after retirement. She loved nature, birds and games. Many people will remember her for her service to others. The joy of her life was her daughter, grandchildren and friends. She was truly rich in the things that matter; family and friends. Grace is survived by her daughter, Leslie White, Albuquerque, N.M.; her granddaughter, Jennifer Stepetic and her husband, Hugh Shoults, St. Robert, Mo.; one grandson, David Stepetic, Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, Erick Bjorum, Reno, Nev., Carl H. Bjorum, Bryans Road, Md., and Ben Bjorum, Yuma, Ariz.; two sisters, Marian Mercado and Elva Mae Bakke, both of Bismarck; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Joe and Pat Mattson and family. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger. A memorial has been established to Dakota Prairie Hospice.
Herbert George Zoller
TEMVIK -- Herbert George Zoller, 71, Linton, died Nov. 6, 2000, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Linton, with the Rev. Terry Arbieter officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by Linton American Legion. Linda Seidel will serve as organist, with a duet by Brad and Sally Bales. Casket bearers will be Lamar Kruckenberg, Kevin Kruckenberg, Jim Frank, Jason Spaeth, Tom Werner and Harlow Bales. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, where a prayer service will begin at 7:30 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Herbert was born June 27, 1929, at Temvik, the son of Ludwig and Elizabeth (Weber) Zoller. He attended school at Temvik and graduated from Temvik High School in 1948. He attended North Dakota State School of Science for one year and then joined the Army National Guard and served one year of active duty in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he returned to Linton where he worked for Herman Backhaus as a mechanic. Herbert began working for the ASCS office as a fieldman and a program assistant in 1959. On May 5, 1962, he married Edna "Mickie" Van Beek Spaeth and they made their home in Linton. Herb continued to work for the ASCS office until December 1987. He was a member of AmVets, Linton American Legion and Linton Senior Citizens. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Edna; two stepsons and one stepdaughter-in-law, Mike and Yvonne Spaeth, Poway, Calif., and Richard Spaeth, Midland, Texas; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Norma and Bill Frank, Las Vegas, Bernice and Ed Kruckenberg, Mandan, and Sandra Nelson, Mandan. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Neil; and one brother-in-law, Murel Nelson.
Norma Benz
MOFFIT -- Services for Norma Benz will be held at 1 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, with the Rev. Fred Henkelmann officiating. Burial will be in Moffit Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time today at Myers Funeral Home, Linton. Norma Iwen Benz was born March 17, 1919, in Arthur, the daughter of Herman and Hattie Iwen. She attended grade school and high school in Arthur. On Oct. 28, 1938, she married Maurice Benz. They made their home on the Benz Ranch near Moffit. In 1998 they became residents of the Strasburg Care Center. Norma died Nov. 6, 2000. Grateful to have shared her life are her husband, Maurice; four sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Arva Dell Benz, Wayne and Jane Benz, and Dennis and Shirley Benz, all of Bismarck, and Gary and Kathy Benz, Linton; 10 grandchildren, Dan and Tom Benz, Stacey Zeiszler, Michael, Aaron and Adrian Benz, Tammy Huckert and Wade Benz, and Heather and Eric Benz; eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Leigha and Layne Zeiszler, Andrew and Katilyn Benz, Jayden Benz, Jacque and Tanner Hucker, and Alex Benz; and one sister, Adeline Iwen, Arthur. She was preceded in death by one daughter; four brothers; and four sisters.
Mathias France Braun
STRASBURG -- Mathias France Braun, 93, Deming, N.M., and formerly of Strasburg, died Oct. 21, 2000 in a Fort Bayard, N.M., hospital. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. He is survived by his wife, Marie Eva Braun; one son, Mel V. Braun, Deming; one daughter, Susan Fournelle, Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
