YPSILANTI -- Howard Rude, 60, Ypsilanti, died Oct. 12, 2000 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Eddy Funeral Home Chapel, Jamestown. He is survived by a daughter, Kammaye Rude, Denver, Colo.; one son, Ryan, Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters, June Bjornson, Ottertail, Minn., and Marion Rude, Fergus Falls, Minn.; four brothers, Leo, Jamestown, Gene, Ypsilanti, Calmar Jr., Broken Arrow, Okla., and Keith, of Ypsilanti.
Loren E. Vettel
Loren E. Vettel, 73, 1040 Westwood, Bismarck, died Oct. 12, 2000 at his home from complications of PSP. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas Kramer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, Mandan. A vigil will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, giving everyone time to get home to watch Loren's beloved Vikings. There will be no visitation. Loren was born Oct. 24, 1926 in Bismarck, the son of Charles and Leo Pearl (Neighbor) Vettel. He was a lifelong resident of Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1944. He joined the Navy, serving from 1944-1946. He married Joyce Worle on Jan. 10, 1953 in Duluth, Minn. After his time in the service, he worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1989. Loren was a lifetime supporter of Bismarck High athletics, listening to any games that he could not attend in person. He was a notorious cardshark, frustrating his family eternally at cribbage. In his day, he was also an exceptional pool player. He played cymbals for many years with the American Legion Drum & Bugle Corps. He was a member of the 40 et 8 and routinely had Friday lunch with the "Old Farts Club." Loren is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children, Lissa (Tommy) Weathers, Roanoke, Ala., Steve, San Francisco, Calif., Joe (Vickey), San Diego, Calif., Stacy (Mud) Berven, Vergas, Minn., and Mike (Becky), Mayville; seven grandchildren, K.C., Abby, Shane, Rannon, Larkin, April and Deirdre; two great-grandchildren, Torri and Triniti; and brother, Charles, Rochester, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Leo Pearl; his brother, Gerald; and sisters, Theo Hughes and Neva Johnsen. Edward Riedman
VALLEY CITY -- Edward "Bill" Riedman, 89, Valley City, died Oct. 13, 2000 in the Valley City hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Catherine Church, Valley City, with the Rev. Al Allmaras officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A prayer service with a time of sharing will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, in the Peterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home, Valley City. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home and one hour before services in the church Tuesday evening. Edward Riedman was born Oct. 26, 1910 in Valley City, the son of Inga and George Riedman. George nicknamed all his sons, and Edward became "Bill" to family and friends. Bill attended a country school in Sibley, and Valley City schools. He began farming at home when the family moved to Luverne in 1922. He continued to farm when the family moved to the Riedman farm near Litchville in 1928. During the winters of 1936 and 1937, Bill wintered in California doing miscellaneous jobs, and spending the spring and summer working on the farm. In the late 1930's, he worked for North American Creameries where he delivered ice cream, etc. He continued to farm until 1942, when he entered the service. He spent 16 months in the states and 28 months overseas in the Aleutians. He returned home in 1945 and began farming with his brother, Ralph, near Litchville. He was still running combine in the fall of 1999, when he turned 89. He married Marcella Heiling on Jan. 21, 1952 in Valley City. She passed away in 1999. Bill was a member of St. Catherine Church, American Legion and lifetime member of the Elks and VFW. He was a township clerk for Skandia Township for 40 years. His biggest enjoyment was farming. He also was an avid sports fan and took great pride in the athletic achievements of his grandsons. He liked to check on his bluebird trail near his farm. He is survived by his sons, Chuck (Mary Ann), Litchville, and Bill, Bismarck; two grandsons, Phil and Nick; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella; his parents, four brothers and three sisters. Albert Hlebechuk
BELFIELD -- Albert Hlebechuk, 73, Belfield, died Oct. 13, 2000 in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Belfield, with the Rev. Thomas Richter officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. MDT today at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue from 4-9 p.m. MDT today and one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be an evening prayer service at 7 p.m. MDT tonight at the church. Albert Hlebechuk was born on April 2, 1927 in Fayette, N.D., the son of Mike and Rose (Zelinsky) Hlebechuk. Albert married Charlotte Obrigewitch on June 16, 1957 at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Belfield. He owned and operated Albert's Hiway Service in Belfield. In 1958, he and Charlotte founded Hlebechuk Construction, where he remained active up until the time of his death. He collected and restored antique John Deere tractors, and Cat heavy construction equipment. His pride and joy was a 1929, Ford Model A car, which he had restored. He also enjoyed spending time at auction sales. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Eagles, German-Hungarian Lodge, the N.D. Land Improvement Contractors Association, the AGC of North Dakota, and the Dakota Resource Council. He was also a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, where for the past 40 years on Wednesday at 5 a.m., had an hour of adoration. Albert is survived by his wife, Charlotte; four sons, Hugh (Marina), Bill (Rene), Tom A. (Lori), and Tim Hlebechuk, all of Belfield; two daughters, Mary Kay Hlebechuk, Dickinson, and Lauri Ann (Richard) Kupitz, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren, Kristin, Jake, Matthew, Tony, Hanna, Dana, Cody, Luke, Cole and Brett Hlebechuk, and Ian Kupitz; two brothers, Walter (Martha), Fairfield, and Edward, Jeannette, Pa.; one sister, Dorothy Sorenson, Estherville, Iowa; and his mother-in-law, Bertha Obrigewitch.
