Evangeline Seilinger
Evangeline "Angie" Seilinger, 61, died May 31, 2000 in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Todd Hylden officiating. Burial will be in Wing Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service at Eastgate Funeral Service. Evangeline Roemmich was born April 8, 1939 in Steele, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Neumiller) Roemmich. She was raised and educated in Steele, graduating from Steele High School in 1957. Angie married Lloyd Seilinger on March 28, 1958 in Steele. They moved to Wing where they farmed until 1975. Angie moved to Bismarck in 1976, where she was employed by J.C. Penney Co. and MedCenter One. She entered the Karrington Commons in January of 1998, where she resided until her death. Angie is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Brad Miller, Bismarck, and Carla and Les Honeyman, Shields; two sons, Jeff and his special friend, Linda Hagquist, Federal Way, Wash., and Mike and his special friend, Candy Hulm, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Harry Barnard, Myrtle Creek, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant sister, Gladys.

Pius N. Hoffart
Pius N. Hoffart, 88, 107 Seminole Ave., died June 4, 2000, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday at Boelter Funeral Home, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7 Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services. Pius was born March 13, 1912, in Beulah, the son of John and Margareta (Huck) Hoffart. He was raised and educated in Beulah. Pius graduated from Moeller Barber College in Fargo, and then came to Bismarck where he startd Hoffart Barber Shop which he continued to operate until 1985. Pius married Ruth Kearns on Nov. 20, 1940, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck. During World War II he worked as a guard at Fort Lincoln, south of Bismarck. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was a past member of Elks Chorus and Cathedral Choir. He was a member of Eagles, Elks, Knights of Columbus, United Commercial Travelers, and a charter member of Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. Pius is remembered for his gardening skills, notably for his roses. He loved his family and was especially fond of his great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Ann Hammeren, Bismarck; three granddaughters, Joan Hammeren and her fiance, Dave Knoll, Denver, Janelle Hammeren, Las Vegas, and Fawn and Doug Schirado, Bismarck; three great-grandsons, Kendall Hammeren, Devin Schirado and Benjamin Schirado; one brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Crin, Bozeman, Mont. Pius was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; one infant daughter; three brothers; and two sisters. The family prefers memorials to God's Child Project or St. Mary's Cemetery.

Lila Shirley Barcome
Lila Shirley Barcome, 68, Grand Forks, died June 16, 2000 at her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, with burial in Burnstead Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Norman Funeral Home, Grand Forks, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Lila Shirley Shepard was born June 19, 1931 in Bismarck the daughter of Frederick Theodore Carl "F.T.C." and Leah (Bauer) Shepard. She was raised in Burnstead and graduated from Fargo Central in 1949. She attended North Dakota State University from 1949-1952, where she was a member of Honor Society, and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She received her degree in Physical Therapy from Herman Hospital, Texas Medical Center, Houston, Texas, in 1953. She joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and cared for Navy pilots injured in the Korean War while stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii and San Diego, Calif. While in the Navy, she met and married Lt. Com. Dr. Donald Barcome in Arizona on April 26, 1956. They moved to Gillette, Wis., where they set up the only medical practice in town, she ran the office and assisted him. Children now Donald Francis Jr. (Grand Forks) and Shirley Johann (James) Pagel (Galesville, Wis.) were born in Green Bay, Wis. The family moved to Houston, Texas in the spring of 1960, and son Earl William (now of Colorado Springs, Colo.) was born there. July 1, 1965 the family moved to Grand Forks. Besides raising her children, Shirley found time to become involved with PTA, PTO, Grand Forks Symphony, N.D. Republicans and their local "House Tour," PEO, Grand Forks Curling Club, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae (she loved sponsoring local girls). She was past president of the Grand Forks Curling Club and junior program coordinator for 30+ years, on North Dakota Curling Association Board of Directors for many years; Northeast Mental Health Board of Directors, Prairie Public Television Board of Directors, and American Curling Club Board of Directors. While with the United States Women's Curling Association she helped inaugerate the Women's National Championship and Junior Women's National Championship. She was a committee member for the Myra Museum and teh Campbell House, and a Sunday school teacher at Calvary Lutheran Church for over 34 years, volunteer election judge for decades, Grand Forks Centennial Celebration co-chairperson, North Dakota Centennial Commission member, UND Physicians Auxiliary past president, and many year Student Loan Fund chairperson, ATO parents club president for 10+ yeras, and honorary "Special Friend of the House," and held many Ducks Unlimited Sponsors dinners. The years in Grand Forks saw her champion, assist and comfort her husband's dream of a free-standing Rehabilitation Hospital, which she so proudly helped to break ground for in 1972. She was also instrumental in helping her sons win multiple national Curling Championships as well as the World Junior Championship in 1979. Later, she mentored the Pete Haga rink that curled in many National Junior Championships. If you wanted to find Shirley during the winter months, she was usually found at the curling club -- curling, cooking, watching, talking and making new members feel welcome. Her daughter blessed her with three beautiful grandchildren -- Jeremy (8), Nathaniel (6), and Anna (2). They were her pride and joy. In between cancers last summer, she and her charges spent a memorial week at the lake. Shirley was a mentor to all who needed her, and many benefited from the experience. Shirley is survived by her husband; three children; three grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen (Leon) Larson, Dunwoody, Ga.; and various uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Sharon Shepard. Memorials are suggested to the Grand Forks Curling Club -- Junior Program.
Jean E. Blaine
MOTT -- Jean E. Blaine, 85, Bismarck, and formerly of Mott, died June 15, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Monday, at United Church of Christ, Mott, with the Rev. Dwight Albers officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyslope Cemetery, Mott. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. MDT today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Serving as casketbearers will be Jerome and June Beck, Doug and David Friez, Herman Preszler, and Mick Wangsvick. The family prefers memorials to the United Church of Christ and the Hettinger County Historical Society. Jean Ellen Blaine was born March 9, 1915 near Regent to Thomas C. and Ida (Lundeen) Blaine. They lived on a farm northeast of Regent. With her parents both being school teachers, Jean attended various schools where they taught. The family moved to Mott in 1925 where she attended school and graduated from Mott Lincoln High School in 1931. Jean did domestic work in the Mott area. In the early 1940's, she served as Deputy Auditor of Hettinger County until 1958, when she became Auditor. She served as auditor from 1958 until her retirement in 1980. She continued to live in Mott until November 1996, when Jean moved to Bismarck and lived in the Primrose Retirement Apartments. On May 3, 2000, she moved to the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center where she has resided since. Jean was the clerk for the Mott School District from 1945 to 1983. She was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ in Mott. Among various church activities were her serving as Treasurer and organist. Jean loved music, played the piano and organ, and was an avid reader belonging to various book clubs, and enjoyed playing bridge. She was very interested in history and was a longtime member of the Hettinger County Historical Society and the North Dakota State Historical Society. Keeping in her fondest memories are her son and daughter-in-law, James and Barbara Blaine, Bismarck; one sister, Madge Hill, West Des Moines, Iowa, four nieces, Kristen Jensen, Minneapolis, Janet Lemons, Quilcene, Wash., Connie Jo Buss and Ellen Petre, both of Seattle; and one nephew, Blaine Hill, West Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James Blaine; one sister, Letha Thomas; and two nieces, Barbara Dick and Dottie Phillipe.

C. T. Finneman
BEACH -- C. T. "Buster" Finneman, 80, Beach, died June 15, 2000 in Buffalo, Okla. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Beach, with the Rev. David Morman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight and a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight, both at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Beach. Buster was born on Sept. 2, 1919, the son of Michael and Susanna (Bertram) Finneman. He attended school at Burkey and Golva High School. On Nov. 23, 1943, Buster married Florence Begger at St. Phillips, Mont., and they were married for 56 years. They lived near Golva on a farm and in 1980, they moved to Beach. Buster enjoyed custom harvesting, flying and farming. He began farming in Golva and eventually farmed with sons, David and Steve, expanding to the Wibaux area. Buster and Florence farmed in this area until the time of his death. Buster was a progressive farmer utilizing the latest technologies, including his airplane. For 55 years, he harvested in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and South Dakota, working his way back to the North Dakota farm. Many family members were part of the harvest crews. Buster's last days were spent custom harvesting in Oklahoma with his son Steve. In 1999, Buster was inducted into the U.S. Custom Harvesters National Hall of Fame for 50 years of custom harvesting. He received national media attention for this honor. A plaque is displayed in the Hall of Fame at Tulia, Texas. Buster's optimistic, fun loving personality lit up the room. He had a long-term, costly relationship with "Ma Bell." Buster loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Buster is survived by his wife, Florence; five daughters, Katy Zinsli (Lee Hall), Dickinson, Alicia (Leon) Heick, Bismarck, Ruth (Chris) Schmitt, Badaxe, Mich., Donnella (Joel) Maixner, Bismarck, and Marie (Steve) Kremers, Sentinel Butte; two sons, David (Connie) Finneman, Rapid City, S.D., and Steve (Kathy) Finneman, Alberton, Mont.; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcella Kittel, Waldport, Ore., and Weinie (Paul) Barthel, Beach; two sisters-in-law, Gabrielle (Gay) Finneman, Beach, and Ethel Carlson, Liberty Lake, Wash. George V. Kopp
George V. Kopp, 74, rural Mandan, died June 17, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. A parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home, followed by a rosary at 8 p.m. George was born on the family homestead farm in rural Mandan on May 13, 1926, the son of Stanley and Caroline (Barth) Kopp. He was raised and educated in rural Mandan. George married Florence Boehm on Sept. 24, 1951 in New Salem. George started farming on his own at the age of 16 and continued to on the homestead farm until the present, raising grain and cattle. George enjoyed working the land, he loved seeding and plowing, combining and most of all he loved cutting hay. Through his busy schedule he always found time for family. He enjoyed going to little league games and wanted to live to see his grandchildren grow up. He liked to play jokes and had a great sense of humor. He would always say that "If his family was happy, so was he." George also felt that faith was important and that Sunday mass was a must. He took time for recreation where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and was always ready for a game of pinochle. He is survived by his wife, Florence; four sons and daughters-in-law, Kelly and Judy, Kelvin and Betty, Tom and Sonya, and Greg and special friend Rhonda Lawyer, all of Mandan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Margo and Andrew Stroh, Cindy and Kelly Nickel, and Brenda and Douglas Peterson, all of Mandan; 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Leo Kopp, Mandan; one sister, Barbara Ereth, Mandan; one brother-in-law, Florian Frank; and one sister-in-law, Agnes Kopp, Mandan; and numerous nieces and nephews. MOFFIT -- Edward J. Kuntz, 84, Moffit, died June 16, 2000 in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Hildegard's Catholic Church, Menoken, with the Rev. George Dukart officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Monday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, with a rosary said at 7 p.m. Monday evening. Edward John Kuntz was born Sept. 1, 1915 in Emmons County, at Linton, to George and Catherine (Fiest) Kuntz. He was raised and educated at Napoleon and Britton, S.D., where the family moved in 1932. Edward married Rose Marie Vogel on Nov. 12, 1938 in Bismarck. They moved to Moffit in 1942, where Edward worked for the Soo Line Railroad. They were members of St. Paul Catholic Church in Hazelton for many years and members of St. Hildegard's Catholic Church in Menoken. Edward enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. Edward is survived by one son, Clements "Clem" Kuntz, Moffit; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia and Nick Branesky, Tioga, and Paulette "Polly" Siirtola, Bismarck; Paul Kuntz, who was raised by Ed and Rose; seven grandchildren, Denise Giordano, Tampa, Fla., Dean Branesky, Denver, Colo., David and John Branesky, Boise, Idaho, Wendy Kuntz, Linton, Stacy Haugen, Mandan, and Jason Siirtola, Fargo; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Andy and Brittany Kuntz, Caitlyn and Bailey Branesky, Selena Giordano, and Layne and Dylon Haugen; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Sebastian "Sy" and Lena Kuntz, Moffit, and Mike and Martha Kuntz, Bismarck; three sisters, Wilhelmine Magrum, Fort Collins, Colo., Magdalena "Max" Glass, Bismarck, and Josephine "Josie Morgel, Portal. Leo R. Lanz
Leo R. Lanz, 68, 104 W. Antelope Street, Mandan, died June 16, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Feeney officiating, with full committal services at North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, with a parish vigil at 7 p.m. tonight. Leo was born on Nov. 15, 1931 in St. Anthony, the son of Michael J. and Magdalena (Helbling) Lanz. He was raised and educated in Mandan. Leo graduated from Mandan High School in 1948 and joined the Army. Leo's military career in the US Army began in 1948 to 1970 where he retired as a Sergeant First Class. During his time in the military he served as a chemical warfare specialist serving in Korea from 1950-1953 and Vietnam from 1967-1968. He married Shirley Fitzsimmons in Colorado. He then married Nam-Sun Lee in 1969 in Korea. He continued to live in Korea until 1973, when he and his family moved to Mandan, where he lived since and during which time he was an insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha. He enjoyed fishing, playing pinochle and having his family around. He is survived by his wife, Nam-Sun, Mandan; two sons, Sung-Su and his wife, Young-Ae Lanz, Bismarck, and James Lanz, Colorado; twin daughters, Jane and Janice, Colorado; three grandchildren, Tina, Sophia and Jeff Lanz; one sister, Josephine Meyers, Lebec, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
