Kathryn Wilhelm
EDGELEY -- Kathryn Wilhelm, 76, Edgeley, died May 31, 2000 in a Jamestown hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. today at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the church. Kathryn Krumm was born Jan. 4, 1924 at Hague, the daughter of John and Sophia (Wingenbach) Krumm. She was raised and educated on the family farm at Hague and attended the township school. Following her education, she worked on the family farm. Kathryn married Anton Wilhelm at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hague on June 17, 1947. They purchased a farm near Edgeley following their marriage, where they lived and farmed until retiring in 1985. In 1987, they moved into Edgeley. Kathryn was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church and Transfiguration Altar Society. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening and brought many of her vegetables to the nursing home. She is survived by five sons: Francis (Rhonda), Wahpeton, James (Nina), Farmington, N.M., Dennis (Janet) and Neal (Brenda), all of Edgeley, Earl (Barbara), Leonard; four daughters: Jane (Clayton) Day, Wyndmere, Deborah (Ken) Ness, Bismarck, Carol (Clark) Crary, Elroy, Wis., Doris (Chris) Skrove, Fargo; 29 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Anton (Maggie) Krumm, Strasburg, and Mike (Mary) Krumm, Bismarck; five sisters, Magdalena "Maggie" Meier, Zeeland, Mary Meier, Linton, Ann (Joe) Meier, Monticello, Minn., Amelia "Molly" (Joe) Mathern, Edgeley, and Tillie (Ed) Silbernagel, Linton. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and one sister. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Manor St. Joseph, Edgeley. (Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley)
Darlene Wolff
Darlene Wolff, 69, Bismarck, died May 29, 2000, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services were held on June 1 at Eastgate Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Dale V. Nabben officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Darlene was born on March 21, 1931, in Minot. She lived at home with her mother until she moved to the State Developmental Center, Grafton, in 1937. In 1985, she moved to Diane's Group home and attended a Day/Work Activity Program in Mandan, both operated by HIT Inc. Darlene retired from work and moved to the Baptist Home in 1997, where caring staff made her feel right at home. Darlene was an active member of Heart River Lutheran Church. She enjoyed working on puzzles, dining out, bingo, sewing, animals, watching butterflies and children play. She had many challenges and goals in her life, which she met with a strong determination to succeed. While Darlene was basically nonverbal, she had no problem getting her point across. She was preceded in death by her mother, Effie (Cwikunski) Wolff. Darlene leaves behind many friends who loved and will miss her, especially Norma Nichols, Dee Grosz, Judy Barondeaum, Mavis Jundt and Gerry and Loretta Hegstad. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Lowell R. Knowlen
Lowell R. Knowlen, 69, died May 28, 2000 at Rapid City, S.D. Services were held on Friday, June 2, at Glencoe Presbyterian Church, with Mr. Larry Martin and Mr. Michael Cody officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Lowell "Russell" Knowlen (also known as Russell) was born in Eau Claire, Wis. He was raised in Burleigh County where he worked for various farmers until he went into the U.S. Navy in January 1948. Lowell served on several ships in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean areas. He served on the USS Leyte CV32 when it was one of the first ships to be involved in the Korean War. Lowell received several medals in the service and was Honorably Discharged from his second tour of duty on May 18, 1955. Lowell had been to over 50 different countries while in the Navy. Lowell worked for Dowell after leaving the Navy and helped develop the world's first hydro-Electric Fracturing unit to fracture oil wells. Lowell actually worked at many different occupations over his life but his greatest love was the Salvage and Fur business. He worked for several different firms over the years, most notably Chandlers of Pierre, S.D., and various locations for Mardian's. Lowell was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Jean. Together they had traveled to almost every state of the union. Lowell was a long time member of the Worldwide Church of God. They had attended congregations in many states and had many friends across the nation. Lowell was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Norman and Johnny. Lowell is survived by three sisters and three brothers, Carol (Paulson), Omaha, Neb., Emma (Smith), Tulsa, Okla., Grace Knowlen, Gackle, Delbert G., Fargo, James, Tulsa, Okla., and Joe, Mandan. Lowell and Jean are survived by seven children, Lowell Jr., Colleen (Clooten), Delbert, Hank, Susan (Glass), Jean (Walton), and Rebecca. Lowell and Jean are also survived by 14 grandchildren, David Knowlen, Amanda Knowlen, Lorene Knowlen, Phillip Knowlen, Matthew Knowlen, Michael Clooten, Wendy Russell, Monica Knowlen, Chastity Glass, Fawn Glass, Forrest Glass, Breanna Walton and Amberly Walton. Judy Marie Kuhn, 48, died in her Bismarck home on May 31, 2000 from a tragic accident. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Revs. Steve Zastoupil and John Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be from 1-9p.m. today and 1-9 p.m. Sunday, both at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening. Judy was born March 21, 1952 in Bismarck, and graduated and attended Catholic grade schools and St. Mary's Central High School, graduating in 1970. She attended the University of Mary and graduated from Minot State University. Judy worked in the family shoe store, (Arrowhead Shoe Plaza), and owned the business for a number of years. At the time of her death, Judy was employed by Pride, Inc. and by Support Systems, Inc. Judy loved her family and helping whenever she could. She loved animals, especially cats. Her parents and family will greatly miss their beloved daughter, sister and Aunt Jude. Judy is survived by her parents, John and Catherine Kuhn, Bismarck; a brother and sister-in-law, Rod and Carla Kuhn, Bismarck; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Russ Yanney, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Patty and John Tschida, Bismarck. She is also survived by six very special nephews, Mark, Matt and Justin Kuhn, Joshua and Jonathan Yanney and Caleb Tschida. She was preceded in death by one nephew, Paul Kuhn.
