Melvin Strecker
WASHBURN -- Melvin C. Strecker, 68, Washburn, died April 27, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Washburn Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Torkelson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:30-9 p.m. today, at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Melvin Christ Strecker was born on March 1, 1930, in rural Washburn to Christ and Magdalena (Grosz) Strecker. He grew up on his parents' farm 2[1/2] miles northwest of Washburn where he attended rural school. He graduated from Washburn High School. As a young man, he farmed and ranched with his father and took over the farming and ranching operation in 1950. He married Mary Helen Parker on June 3, 1961, in Devils Lake, and they made their home northwest of Washburn. She died on June 18, 1977. He married Linda (Sayler) Hardy on Oct. 30, 1993, at the Washburn Baptist Church. He continued to farm and ranch until his illness.
He was a faithful member of Washburn Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and superintendent and chairman of the Baptist Cemetery Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and loved keeping busy and visiting with people.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; one son, Nathan, rural Washburn; one daughter, Ruth Strecker, Chicago, Ill.; one grandson; four stepgrandchildren; two stepdaughters, Lory Hardy, Danbury, Conn., and Cheryl Tippett, Bismarck; one stepson, Paul Hardy, Bismarck; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Alma, Bismarck, Marvin and Bernice, Spokane, Wash., and the Rev. Reuben and Joyce, Clarksville, Tenn.; and two sisters, Erna Cumiford, Rapid City, S.D., and Esther Reimers, Bismarck. (Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.

He is survived by his wife, Thusnelda; four daughters, Mary Lee Clow, Pharr, Texas, Patricia Van Beek, Bismarck, Carol McCarty, Jamestown, and Kathleen Weber, Cottage Grove, Tenn.; two brothers, Bert and Sam, both of Jamestown; and one sister, Bertha Collis, Minneapolis. Eugene McLellan
Eugene Dale McLellan, 50, Mandan, died April 28, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ben Dove officiating.
Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. Friday, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Eugene Dale McLellan was born April 30, 1947, in Northwood, the son of Harold "Mac" and Louise (Kaiser) McLellan. As a child, he moved with his family to Mandan, where he was raised and educated. On Oct. 18, 1974, he married Mary Lou Olson at Mobridge, S.D. They continued to live in Mandan until 1981 when they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. They returned to Mandan in 1985, where they have since resided.
Gene loved the outdoors, gardening, working with wood and crafts. He had a great love for fishing and being in the mountains.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; one daughter, Jolene Erickson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Joyce, Mandan; his mother and stepfather, Louise and Leonard Kavonius, Bismarck; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Ken Rudolph, Salt Lake City; and one brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Brenda McLellan, Bismarck.

Albert Hauff
Albert John Hauff, 76, 218 West Interstate Avenue, Bismarck, died April 28, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Bismarck Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Wes Gerber and Ernest Schafer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, both at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Albert was born on Nov. 2, 1921, in Harvey, the son of Julius and Katherine (Stroh) Hauff. The family lived in Harvey until 1930, when they moved to a farm near McClusky. On April 1, 1942, Albert married Marie Reile at the Baptist Parsonage in McClusky. The couple farmed 14 miles south of McClusky, until they moved to Bismarck in 1961. He worked for Kirschmann Manufacturing, which later became a part of Melroe, until his retirement.
In Albert's earlier years, he was a member of St. John's Lake Church. In Bismarck, he belonged to the Washington Heights Mennonite Church and later joined the Bismarck Baptist Church. He was an active member in both churches. Albert was known for his genuineness and the ease with people that he possessed. He truly enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors.
Albert is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Hauff and Brenda Stone, Bismarck; one daughter, Karen Hauff, St. Paul, Minn.; two granddaughters, Chanell Alveshere and her husband, Terry, Lincoln, and Charissa Swenson and her husband, Erik, Minneapolis; and two great-grandsons, Brandon and Christopher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Marie, who died on Feb. 8, 1998. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
Margaret LeCompte
Margaret E. LeCompte, 60, 1116 Summit Blvd., Bismarck, died April 28, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 7 p.m. today, at United Tribes Technical Center, small gym, with the Revs. Julian Nix and Victor Feser officiating.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the gym.
Margaret Eloise was born on March 3, 1938, at Wakpala, S.D. to Gerald Bud and Marcelle (Halsey Lawrence) LeCompte. She grew up in Fort Yates and received her education in Pierre, S.D. She also attended Emily Griffith Opportunity School, Native American Urban Transition Program, both at Denver, Colo., and the Morgan Community College in Fort Morgan, Colo. Margaret was an experienced professional in accounting, bookkeeping and related financial management and had worked in this field since 1980. She worked for the Native American Urban Transition Program in Denver, Denver Indian Center and currently was the office manager for the N.D. Association of Tribal Colleges.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Marcelle Christine LeCompte and Ron Romero, Rapid City, S.D., and Doris Anne Hutton, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Halsey William and Myra Kay Hutton; two grandchildren, Marcelle Eloise Hutton and Tanisha Marie Thompson; one sister, Grace Marie LeCompte, Fort Yates; two aunts, Alice H. Arnold, Albuquerque, N.M., and Margaret H. Teachout, Fort Yates; one uncle, Henry Halsey, Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Brooke Lynn Mortenson and Michelle Marie Mortenson
Brooke Lynn and Michelle Marie Mortenson were born prematurely at 5:28 and 5:29 a.m. Dec. 20. These precious angels were tiny and fragile. They brought a lot of smiles and touched the hearts of everyone who saw them. They were dedicated to the Lord on Dec. 20, 1998, by Pastor Larry Jahnke. They put up a good fight, Brooke was received into God's hands at 6:15 p.m. Dec. 20 and Michelle Marie was received into God's hands at 4:45 p.m. Dec. 21. Closed family services are pending.
They were greatly loved and will be missed by their parents, Tammy Mortenson, Carson, and Herbert Quamme, Mott; their grandmothers, Ardythe Mortenson, Carson, and Florence Quamme, Hettinger; their grandfather, Edward Quamme, Hettinger; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dan Johnson
MINOT -- Dan Johnson, 49, Minot, died Dec. 21, 1998, in his place of business. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Minot, with the Rev. Stewart Drake officiating. Marie Hagen Bourquin will serve as soloist and Dr. Virginia Geesaman as organist. Burial will be in Leeds Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Pat Kraft, Andy Thurston, Ron LaCount, Mark Matteson, Paul Beck and John Coughlin.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Dan was born March 1, 1949, in Minot, the son of Chester and LuCille (Feldmann) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Leeds and graduated from high school there in 1967. From 1972 until 1978, he owned and operated Johnson Trucking and Landscaping Business in the Rugby and Devils Lake area. On Jan. 23, 1981, he married JoAnne Moffit, at Hope Lutheran Church, Surrey. During the winter months from 1982 to 1990, he drove truck for Systems Transport Inc. In 1982, they moved to Washburn and began Johnson Landscaping in the Washburn and Minot areas, which provided commercial and residential landscaping throughout North Dakota. In 1996, Dan and his wife relocated to Minot and operated Johnson Landscaping out of the Minot office.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnne; two daughters, DeeDra Sturlaugson, Bottineau, and Tracy Carlson, Scottsdale, Ariz.; one son, Darrick, Bismarck; three grandchildren; his mother, Lucille Johnson, Leeds; one brother, Dean, Leeds; and two sisters, Candy Jenssen, Conrad, Mont., and Sandra Darling, Glendive, Mont.
Martha Rolfsrud
WATFORD CITY -- Martha Rolfsrud, 90, Watford City, died Dec. 18, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Watford City, with the Rev. James Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in Clear Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Keene.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Martha Braaten was born to Arne and Kari (Sorlie) Braaten on Feb. 25, 1908, in Hedahl in the Valdres region of Norway. Her parents homesteaded in the Banks community in McKenzie County, N.D., in 1909. She attended grade school in that community and graduated from Watford City High School in 1928. Martha was confirmed in the Banks Lutheran Church in 1923. She received training as a teacher at the Minot State Teacher's College and taught in rural schools in the Banks area.
Martha married Halvor Rolfsrud at Keene on June 12, 1932. Martha and Halvor farmed until 1976 when Halvor passed away. Since then, she has resided in Watford City. Martha's greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, picking June berries and choke cherries and helping friends.
She was a member of Clear Creek Lutheran Church, Clear Creek WELCA, Rebekkah Lodge and 50 years in the Saddle.
She is survived by four children, Arnold and Metha, Auburn, Wash., Harold and Marilyn, Keene, Louise and Kenneth Haugen, rural Alexander, and Karen and Donald Kirmis, Novi, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Kirsti Sheeran, Lafayette, Colo., Erika Rolfsrud, New York City, John Rolfsrud, Keene, Douglas Rolfsrud, rural Watford City, David Rolfsrud, Keene, Guy Rolfsrud, Wichita, Kan., Kelli Rolfsrud, Colorado Springs, Colo., Deanne Dostal, Melissa Frommesh and Michele Lovehaug, all of Fargo, Paul Kirmis, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Nathan Kirmis, Ann Arbor, Mich.; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Jonsrud, Watford City; and a brother, Andrew Braaten, Kalispell, Mont.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; four daughters, Barbara Andersen, Minneapolis, Norma Arnold, Las Vegas, Diane Brown, Beach, and Virginia Bietz, Moorcroft, Wyo.; three sons, Robert, Booth Bay Harbor, Maine, Thomas, Chadron, Neb., and William, Montpelier; and one brother, Gilbert, Jamestown.
