Ralph Hickle
CENTER -- Ralph Hickle, 94, Center, died Feb. 24, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Center, with the Rev. G.G. Neuberger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue after noon Friday at the church.
Ralph was born Feb. 18, 1904, on the family farm near Sanger, the son of Sherman Grant Hickle and Nellie (Lamb) Hickle. He was raised in the area and attended rural Oliver County School. He also attended high school in Dickinson. Ralph married Doris G. Christensen, Jan. 19, 1946. He lived and farmed on the same farm homesteaded by his father in 1903 until he became a resident of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck on April 1, 1993. He was an avid antique collector and enjoyed traveling and serving his community. He was a past member of the Missouri Slope Wool Growers, the American Sheep Producers, the Oliver County Historical Society. He was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and served as state representative for District 33 for 16 years. He was the Oliver County Soil Conservation Supervisor for 43 years, a charter member of the Oliver County Farm Bureau, a member of the North Dakota Stockmen's Association, the Central Gem and Mineral Society and the Sons of Norway.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Carol, Center, and Robert and Ellen, San Jose, Calif.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Lyle Light, Riddle, Ore., Arlene and James Yantzer, Center, Crystal and Dean Hatzenbihler, Salem, Ore., and Carmen (Hickle) and Randy Oswald, Bismarck; 15 grandchildren, Kara, Bryce and Kelsey Yantzer, Darren and Dawnel Light, Joel, Jodie and Janel Hatzenbihler, Angela, Landon, Jordan and Jarett Dinius, Parker Oswald, and Johanna and Elliot Hickle; one great-grandchild, Keyonna Yantzer; two sisters, Ruth Etherington, Rapid City, S.D., and Pearl Albers, Hannover; two brothers, William, Center, and Chester, Wilton.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Edelbrock; and one brother, Harold.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor's choice.
Emma Sorch
WILTON -- Emma Sorch, 84, Wilton, died Feb. 24, 1998, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Wilton, with the Rev. Mary-Lee Lint officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight, and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Emma Klein was born Aug. 24, 1913, the daughter of Dan and Katherine (Bauer) Klein, at Wilton. She was raised and educated in the Wilton-Regan area. She married John Sorch, March 4, 1933. They moved to their farmstead east of Wilton in 1934. She was actively involved in the family farm and loved to knit, crochet and tend to her flowers and her garden.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald and Dolores, Lawrence and Gail, and Bob, all of Wilton; eight grandchildren, Don Jr. and Doreen, Cydra and Brian Dolezal, Kelly and Tammy, Jeff and Shanna, Rick, Tyler, Max and Carter; 10 great-grandchildren, Dusty, Riley, Taylor, Travis, Ambre, Tara, Cody, Joshua, Cole and Brandan; two sisters, Molly Holm, Moorhead, Minn., and Marcella Letmore, Chicago; one brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Louise Klein, Bismarck; her home caregivers, Bernice and Henry Grinsteiner.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1997; three brothers, Ernest, Eddie and Carl; and her three sisters, Charlotte, Tillie and Freda.
Raymond Moore
Raymond E. "Grandpa" Moore, 81, died Feb. 23, 1998, in Bismarck. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Steve Tangen officiating.
Friends may visit with the family after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Raymond E. Moore was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Oakland, Iowa, the son of Beacher Snowden Moore and Bessie Parker Moore. He was raised and educated in Iowa. He married Mildred A. Christensen, Oct. 24, 1937, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They moved to Dickinson in 1952, where he founded Comanche Oil Co., successfully surviving the ups and downs of the oil business. He loved his family, his work and golfing.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mildred, Dickinson; two daughters and one son-in-law, JuDee and Otho Buxton, Clitherall, Minn., Peggy Jo Moore, Dickinson; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry R. and Cheryl Moore, Bismarck; nine grandchildren, Guy and Rebecca Hagen, Nicole LaVallie, Lisa and Chuck DeCarlo, Robyn and John Hutchison, Raymond E. Moore II, JoDee Fandrich Foss and her husband, Clay, Shon and Holly Fandrich, Scott and Tina Fandrich, and Paul Kunkel; nine great-grandchildren, Jasmine LaVallie, Charlie DeCarlo, Joshua and Jacob Kane, Ian and Delanie Hutchison, Jade Fandrich Foss, and Sierra and Breeanna Fandrich; a very special cousin, Loas "Dolly" Doose; and a nephew, Steve Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his one brother, Ted; and his nephew, Mike Moore.
Ray was a member of the Moose Club, Masonic Lodge, Elks, Shriners and St. John's Lutheran Church. His main interests were in playing golf, hunting, telling stories, his work in the oil business, being a "hero" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and playing bridge. He was famous for his card tricks, taking the dogs to the Dairy Queen, broom tricks, playing peek-a-boo with the kids, his graciousness, generosity, dancing, his determination, and ability in getting things done. He was known for giving advice, catching people off guard, and his fantastic sense of humor.
He had a colorful personality, making impressions and friends wherever he went. Forever, we who knew him, will be touched by the legacy of "Grandpa" Moore.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. John's Lutheran Bible Camp Scholarship Fund.
Gordon Miller
STEELE -- Gordon J. Miller, 55, California, died Feb. 13, 1998, in a California hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Sharon Kapsch officiating.
Gordon was born Aug. 13, 1942, in Bismarck. He graduated from Steele High School in 1960, and spent one year at Bismarck State College. He then spent four years in the U.S. Army, where he was a member of the Honor Guard. He became a heavy equipment operator and worked several years in Colorado. He moved to California in 1989, where he worked for American Contracting Construction Co. until the time of his death.
He is survived by his mother, Lucille Miller, Bismarck; one brother, Ritchie Miller, Minneapolis; and two sisters, Camille Schmidt, Dawson, and Joyce Miller, Bismarck.
Gordy was a beloved son and brother, and will remain in our hearts forever. (Eastgate Funeral Service)
Margaret Mollman
Services for Margaret E. Mollman, 86, McIntosh, S.D., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Watauga, S.D., with the Rev. Ron Garry officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be her sons.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon, S.D., and will continue at the church one hour before services. A rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight at the church.
Margaret Evelyn Hilsendager was born Nov. 25, 1911, at Belfield, to Conrad and Elisabeth (Hecker) Hilsendager. She grew up and attended rural school near Belfield. When she was nine years old, her mother passed away. Her family moved to the Glen Ullin area on the Heart River, later to St. Paul, Minn., and finally to a ranch north of Watauga. Margaret was married to Dorus John Mollman, Jan. 29, 1931, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Watauga. They made their home at the Fred Nehl homestead west of Watauga, now the Bob Mollman ranch, and began raising a family. In 1939 they moved to the Joe Erz place, now the Frank Mollman ranch. Margaret and her family lived there until the spring of 1980 when they semi-retired and moved into McIntosh. Her husband, Dorus, died June 9, 1994.
Margaret was a loving wife and mother to nine sons and four daughters and she cherished her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved gardening, reading, and was a lively competitor at many auction sales. In her youth, Margaret enjoyed horseback riding and fishing. She was true to her faith, her family and friends. Margaret was a champion of the less fortunate, a very strong woman who stood up for justice, no matter what the cost. She always had a special place in her heart for children, not just her own. She will be missed by all who knew her. Margaret Mollman passed from this life Feb. 23, 1998, in the Hettinger nursing home at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 26 days.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Wallace, Whitewood, S.D., James, Glenrock, Wyo., David, Ludlow, S.D., William, Hettinger, Joseph, McIntosh, S.D., Robert, Watauga, Gregory, McIntosh, Frank, Watauga, and Raymond, Deadwood, S.D.; daughters, Joyce Miller, Bowman, Betty Sweeny, Kennewick, Wash., Eleanor Merkel, McIntosh, and Kathy Hoffman, Morristown, S.D.; one sister, Betty Brom, St. Paul, Minn.; 75 grandchildren; 95 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dorus; eight brothers; two sisters; and six grandsons.
