DICKINSON -- Rosemarie Dubisar, 57, Dickinson, died March 25, 1998, in the Dickinson hospital. Services were held March 30, 1998, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Dickinson.

She is survived by two brothers, Raymond, Hebron, and Calvin, Prinville, Ore.; and two sisters, Josephine Kipp and Janet Jones, both of Madras, Ore. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Margaret Wold
WATFORD CITY -- Margaret S. Wold, 84, Watford City, died March 29, 1998, in a Watford City nursing home. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Watford City.

She is survived by one daughter, Norma Lundstrom, Mandan; and one son, Lynn, Watford City. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City)

Lenore Miske
Lenore Miske, 78, St. Phillip's, Mont., died March 29, 1998, in Wibaux, Mont. Services will be 11 a.m. MST Thursday at St. Phillip's Catholic Church, St. Phillip's. Further arrangements are pending with Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Wibaux.

Bertha Weidner
BEULAH -- Bertha Weidner, 86, Beulah, died March 31, 1998, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending with Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Lorine Knudson
RICHARDTON -- Lorine M. Knudson, 77, Richardton, died April 20, 1998, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton, with the Rev. Brian Wangler officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, at 1 p.m. CDT Friday.

Visitation will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m. MDT today at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation will continue from 4 to 9 p.m. MDT at the church, where a prayer service will be said at 8 tonight.

Lorine Marie was born Jan. 2, 1921, at the Herbert Finneman farm 7 1/2 miles southeast of Golva. She was the daughter of Herbert and Amelia (Schrom) Finneman. She attended school at the Barthel School 1 1/2 miles from the Finneman farm. She graduated from Golva High School at age 15 and continued her education at Wahpeton Science School, graduating in business education. She worked for the National Farm Loan Association in Dickinson from 1940 to 1943, where she met her husband, Darrell W. Knudson, who was a fieldman for the same organization. They were married March 27, 1943, at the St. Mary's Cathedral in Portland, Ore.

Before Darrell was shipped overseas, they lived at Seaside, Ore. During this time, Lorine worked on the West Coast. When Darrell returned home, they lived at Fort Benning, Ga., and Fort Bliss, Texas, where their daughter, Janice Marie, was born. They returned home to North Dakota and eventually moved to Fergus Falls, Minn., where they lived for nine years. Three of their children, Kathryn Ann, William Alan and Bruce Edward were born in Fergus Falls. Martin Darrell, their last child, was born in Richardton.

In 1955, the Knudson family moved to Richardton. Lorine and Darrell were instrumental in the formation of the Richardton Public School, where Lorine and several community women started carnivals and other fund-raising events for the school. In order to raise funds for the community swimming pool, Lorine started the first thrift shop in Richardton. Of all her accomplishments, Lorine was most proud of her chairwomanship of the Stark County Cancer Drive, where she and the other volunteers raised a substantial amount of money.

Lorine enjoyed collecting, trading and selling antiques; especially Shirley Temple dolls and collectibles and antique dishes. Lorine was an excellent writer. She could type out a three-page interesting, funny letter in 10 minutes. Lorine's family was very important to her; caring and nurturing her family was Lorine's lifetime work. She will be deeply missed by her loving family.

Lorine was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, and American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, "Knute"; her five children, Jan and Phil Brown, Fargo, Kathy Knudson, and Marty and Carrie, all of Dickinson, Bill and Ellen, Bismarck, and Bruce and Debbie, West Linn, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor and Bob Clarin, Golva; and three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth, Christine and Irene, all of Golva.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her three brothers, Norbert, Roman and Ralph. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

Philip Cunningham
Philip Cunningham, 75, 1501 S. Washington St., Bismarck, died April 16, 1998, in a Mesa, Ariz., hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ascension Catholic Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending.

Elizabeth Schimke
HARVEY -- Elizabeth Schimke, 87, Hutchinson, Kan., formerly of Harvey, died April 21, 1998, in a Hutchinson nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Robert Lund
SELFRIDGE -- Robert L. Lund, 75, Selfridge, died April 21, 1998, at his home. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Alma Stastney
Alma B. Stastney, 81, Mandan, died April 20, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, south of Mandan.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Moose Ritual will be held at 7:30 tonight.

Alma, the daughter of George and Magdalena (Fisher) Dietz, was born on Jan. 27, 1917, south of Mandan, where she was raised and educated. She married Charles Stastney on Oct. 27, 1937. They farmed south of Mandan until 1971, when they moved to Mandan, where her lawn, garden and roses were her pride and joy. Bingo and rummage sales were a large part of her life. Alma worked at the Heartview Foundation until she retired. She also was the coordinator and cook for weddings and other functions at the Eagles Club.

She was a charter member of Mandan Eagles Auxiliary, where she held all offices, serving twice as Madam President, 10 years as secretary, and coach of the Ritual team. She was also a very active member of Women of the Moose of Mandan, where she was the Senior Regent, held various other offices and was especially active in fund-raisers. She was a life member of Z.C.B.J. Bohemian Lodge, south of Mandan. Alma loved fishing and while on the farm, raised Muscovy ducks.

She is survived by her two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon and Jim Gustin, Mandan, and Melinda Stastney, Lincoln, Neb.; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Agnes, Bismarck; three grandsons and their spouses, Lynn and Cindy Gustin, Mandan, Shadron Stastney, New York, and Hoyt and Kathy Stastney, Milwaukee; three great-grandchildren, Mallory and Kyle, Mandan, and Amelia Ann, Milwaukee; one sister, Ida Waltos and one sister-in-law, Margaret Dietz, both of Portland, Ore.; and three special friends, Deb, Levi and Brittany, Lincoln, Neb.; and Sammy, her dog friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles, who died on Dec. 20, 1992; one son, Darryl; one granddaughter, Karin; two sisters; and four brothers. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Helen Ennen
Helen B. Ennen, 88, Bismarck, died April 21, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Cissel officiating. Burial will be in Menoken Cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Bismarck Funeral Home, and for two hours prior to services at the church on Friday.

Helen B. Baker was born May 4, 1909, in Driscoll, the daughter of Glenn and Mary (Vanous) Baker. Helen married Meryl Ennen in Linton in 1933. In 1943, they rented a farm from their very good friends, Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Niles, who went on to Oregon. Meryl and Helen took over the Glen Baker farm southeast of Menoken in 1938, which is still in the family.

Helen is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley and Avalyn, and Lyle and Elizabeth, all of Menoken; one sister, Hazel White, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her special friends, Elsie McLean and Rose Jahner, both of Menoken; and her friends at St. Vincent's Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Meryl; one son, Larry; her parents; two sisters; and one brother. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Ivan Defender
Ivan L. Defender, 50, McLaughlin, S.D., died April 19, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Assumption, Kenel, S.D., with the Rev. Steve Biegler officiating. Burial will be in Defender Cemetery, Kenel.

Visitation and a wake service begins at 6 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, is 1-4 p.m. Friday.

Ivan was born on June 29, 1947, at old Kenel, to Benjamin and Cecelia Defender. He was raised in Kenel and attended grade school in Pierre, S.D. He graduated from Flandreau High School and attended an art school in Albuquerque, N.M. He moved to Seattle, Wash. In 1972, he returned to Standing Rock where he married Justine Black Hoop. They lived in Fort Yates until 1979, when they moved to Portland, Ore., where he attended community college and worked as a diesel mechanic. He returned to Fort Yates in 1980 and Justine died in 1982. From 1990 to 1993, he lived in Montana, returning to Kenel in 1993. He married Emma Harrison in 1990. He had been in failing health for the last several months.

Ivan enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and fishing.

He is survived by twin sons and one daughter-in-law, Darren and Kristen, Fort Yates, and Farren, Rapid City, S.D.; his spouse, Emma Harrison, Salem, Ore.; seven sisters, Marilyn Keepseagle, Fort Yates, Eunice Keepseagle, Delores Defender and Barbara Defender, all of Fort Yates, Helen White, Lawrence, Kan., Carole Defender, Minneapolis, and Pearl Alvarez, Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Palmer, Kenel, and Bryan, McLaughlin; and six grandchildren. Derek Renfrow
Derek Harold Renfrow, the infant son of Sharon and Joel Renfrow, was stillborn on April 21, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Hildegards, Menoken, with the Rev. John Owens officiating. Burial will be in Menoken Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday in the Eastgate Funeral Chapel.

He will be loved and missed forever by his parents, Joel and Sharon; also a brother and sister at home, Stuart and Teresa; one half-brother, Justin Rogstad, Bismarck; one half-sister, Heather Renfrow, California; his grandmother, Elvira Rogstad, Bismarck; his grandfather, Charles Renfrow, Turtle Lake; and many aunts; uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold Rogstad; and his grandmother, Florence Renfrow. (Eastgate Funeral Service)

Kay Peigle
Kay Peigle, 85, Portland, Ore., and formerly of the Carson and Brisbane area, died April 13, 1998, in Portland. Services were held on April 17, 1998, at Ascension Catholic Church, Portland.

Kay was the daughter of Marcellinus and Elizabeth (Bollinger) Ruscheinsky. She was born in Petral on Sept. 13, 1912.

She is survived by her husband, Chester; two daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Art, and Fern and Rocky; three granddaughters and two step-granddaughters; two brothers, Emanul, Portland, and Frank, Eagle Creek, Ore.; and one sister, Evelyn Fischer, Glen Ullin.

Josephine Westphal
HAZEN -- Josephine Westphal, 60, Hazen, died April 20, 1998, at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

She is survived by three sons, Bruce, Hazen, James and Craig, both of Wichita, Kan., two daughters, Ramona Harmer, Sawyer, and Barbara Kelley, Spokane, Wash.; one sister, Alva Murphy, Burlington; and two brothers, Andrew Clouse, Burlington, and John Clouse, Foxholm. Carol Richards
JAMESTOWN -- Carol Margaret Richards, 53, Jamestown, died April 20, 1998, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Arlen; three sons, Nathan, Erskine, Minn., Greg, Grand Forks, and Andy, Bloomington, Minn.; her parents, Ezra and Marguerite Liechty, Jamestown; and two sisters, Jayne Meyer, Woodbury, Minn., and Janet Asp, Shelby, Ohio. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Vern Evans
HETTINGER -- Vern Evans, 85, Hettinger, died April 20, 1998, in a Hettinger nursing home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. MDT Friday at United Methodist Church, Hettinger. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon, S.D.

He is survived by his wife, Flora; one son, Clifford, Lemmon; and one daughter, Violet Kostelecky, Lemmon. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger)

Hugo Kapsch
ELGIN -- Hugo Kapsch, 84, Elgin, died April 21, 1998. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin. Further arrangements are pending with Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home.

Roger Neal
Roger Marshall Neal, 48, Portland, Ore., formerly of Bismarck, died April 20, 1998, in a Tualatin, Ore. hospital. No services will be held.

He is survived by two sisters, Cheryl and Charlene Neal, both of Tigard, Ore. (Young's Funeral Home, Tigard, Ore.)

Helen Ennen
Helen B. Ennen, 88, Bismarck, died April 21, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Bismarck Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Cissel officiating. Burial will be in Menoken Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today, and two hours prior to services at Bismarck Funeral Home.

George Kuntz
George A. Kuntz, 69, Jenny Lind, Calif., formerly of Solen, died April 16, 1998. Services were held April 20 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, San Andreas, Calif.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; two daughters, Michelle Newby and Carlotta Coss, Jenny Lind; three sons, Gary, Darryl and Harlan, all of Jenny Lind; and seven sisters, Annie Schwartz and Delorse Schwartz, both of California, Leona Ressler, Agnes Sneed, Dianna Jahraus, Delanor Schwartz and Yvonne Fleck, all of Mandan.

Leontina Suess
Leontina (Kilber) Suess, 94, died April 13, 1998, in San Jose, Calif. Services were held April 16 at Santa Clara Funeral Home, with burial in Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.

She is survived by nine children, Iver, Phoenix, Ferne Meegan, Folsom, Calif., Meta Gallagher, Lake Tahoe, Nev., Frances Suess, Lathrop, Calif., Doris Schmidt and Marian Miller, Rockford, Ill., Hermelle Wilson, Minot, Lee James, San Jose, Roger, Reno, Nev.; and one sister, Rose Nei, Missoula, Mont.

Elmer Hodges
GARRISON -- Elmer Hodges, 86, Garrison, died April 22, 1998, in the Garrison nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.
