Romaltus Wangler
Romaltus Wangler, 88, Bismarck, formerly of Napoleon, died Aug. 29, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with the Revs. James Lauerman, Brian Wangler, John Bacevicius and John Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Adam Masseth, Al Weigel, Leonard Bitz, Val Schmidt, Phil Schlosser, Gene Werre and Seb Schumacher. Music for the service will be provided by Tony Wangler and Danita Bitz.
Romaltus was born Oct. 26, 1909, in Neu-Baden (Gudewitsch), Russia, the son of Wendelin and Elizabeth (Zerr) Wangler. He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1912 and settled on a farmstead southwest of Napoleon. He was raised on the family farm and received his elementary education in rural Logan County schools. He continued to live and work on the family farm until his marriage to Christina Wald, Oct. 18, 1932, at St. Anthony Catholic Church near Napoleon. Romaltus became a naturalized citizen of the United States in May 1940. They raised 12 children and farmed in rural Logan County, southwest of Napoleon until 1976 when they retired and moved to Napoleon. In 1993, they moved to Bismarck and became residents of Marillac Manor where he had since resided. Christina died Feb. 17, 1995.
Romaltus was a member of St. Philip Neri Knights of Columbus, and the Napoleon Golden Age Center. He served as a board member of the Mannheim District School, he served on the board of directors of Napoleon Care Center and was a rural school bus driver for many years. Romaltus loved to visit, sing and tell stories to all who would listen. He especially liked to play cards and pool. He gave his family countless lessons on life and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by eight daughters and seven sons-in-law, Mary and Adam Masseth, Fargo, Irene Needham, Minneapolis, Christine and Al Weigel, Napoleon, Millie and Val Schmidt, Bismarck, Marcy and Leonard Bitz, Napoleon, Fran and Phil Schlosser, Leona and Gene Werre, and Helen and Seb Schumacher, all of Bismarck; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Tony and Rita, Kintyre, Mark, and Tom and Jan, all of Bismarck, and Gary and Audrey, Mandan; 35 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Magdalena Mitzel, Bismarck, and Clara Weigel, Napoleon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christina; his parents; two brothers, Wendelin and John; two sisters, Veronica Vetter and Agatha Wald; and one grandson, Dion Schumacher.
Eva Pope
Eva Marie Pope, 78, 1100 Sunset Drive, Mandan, died Aug. 29, 1998, at her residence. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Church, Mandan, with the Revs. William Fahnlander and John Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation runs Wednesday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. A Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a parish rosary at 7 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Eva (Gress) Pope was born May 6, 1920, in rural Mandan. She was the daughter of the late Anton and Catherine (Boehm) Gress. Eva attended schools in the Mandan area. On Dec. 2, 1939, she married Thomas J. Pope at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Crown Butte. Eva worked for the Mandan Deaconnes Hospital and Bergstrom Supply and was a volunteer at the Rehabilitation Center in Mandan.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers and organized the Quilters Club at Christ the King Parish.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas J.; one son, Robert, Mandan; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Jerry Zander, Mandan, Anita and Warren Baillie, Denver, Laura and Larry Anderson, Albuquerque, N.M., and Laine and Michael Heinsohn, Mandan; seven grandchildren, Nancy, Thomas, Lana, Stacy, Christopher, Ryan and Catherine; five great-grandchildren, Brock, Alec, Mason, Mariah and Sarah; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Clarence Gress, Deming, N.M., and Anton and Lila Gress, Glendive, Mont.; and one sister, Rosemary Pope, Las Cruces, N.M.

Esther Brown
Esther Brown, 76, Napa, Calif., and formerly of Bismarck, died Aug. 21, 1998, in Napa. Services were held on Aug. 25, 1998, at Napa Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary.
Esther was born on June 23, 1922, in North Dakota. Mrs. Brown was a silk finisher with the Bertains Cleaners.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Bosch (Harry), Paula Webster (George), Diana Webster (Michael) and Terry Moyes (Randy); her brothers and sisters, Edna Morrical, Rose Glass, Clarence Allmendinger and Melvin Allmendinger, all of Bismarck, Ramona Brown, Yuba City, Darlene Tremewan, Napa, and Mary Ann Andahl, Cypress, Calif.; her grandchildren, Todd and Tammy Bosch, Michael and Shannon Webster, Michelle and Andrea Webster and Ashley and Jennifer Moyes; and her great-grandchildren, Jordon and Jacob.

Eletha Jackson
NEW TOWN -- Eletha Jackson, 72, New Town, died Aug. 30, 1998, in a New Town nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, New Town. Burial will be in Shell Creek Catholic Cemetery, near New Town.
She is survived by her sons, Royce, Poplar, Mont., Darrell Jackson, Byron Jackson and Jerome Dancing Bull, all of New Town, Gardner Jackson, San Francisco, and Milton Beaks, Valley City; five daughters, Bonnie Blake, Beatrice Fettig, Clarine Jackson, Iris Jackson and Jacqueline Morsette, all of New Town; and one sister, Delores Sand, New Town. Louise White
Louise Lois White, 55, Binghamton, N.Y., formerly of Bismarck, died April 10, 1998, in Binghamton. Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Fairview Cemetery, with Walt Schott presiding over the burial.
Louise was born Nov. 27, 1942, in Bismarck, the daughter of Joseph and Carol White.
She is survived by three daughters, Machel Fay, Lisa Fay and Cassandra Fay; one son, Scott Fay; one daughter-in-law, Mary Fay; one sister, Fae Scott; one brother-in-law, Delbert Scott; two brothers, Dean White and Lynn White; and one sister-in-law, Shirley White; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ewald Kramlich
MEDINA -- Ewald Kramlich, 80, Medina, died Aug. 30, 1998, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ, Medina, with burial in Medina Cemetery.

Ernie Tooz
DICKINSON -- Ernie Tooz, 50, Dickinson, died in an accident Sept. 18, 1998, in Baker, Mont. Services will be 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. MDT Monday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, where a prayer service and rosary will be said at 7 p.m. MDT Monday.
Ernie Tooz was born Nov. 22, 1947, in Dickinson to Ernest and Barbara (Hopfauf) Tooz. He was raised in the Killdeer area and attended rural grade school in Grassy Butte and high school in Killdeer. Ernie married Judy Kraiter on June 6, 1967.
He served in the U.S. Army and served one tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in December of 1969. He worked for Carlson Construction prior to forming his own construction company. In 1978, he incorporated with Fred Tooz to form Tooz Construction. In 1994, he began working for Northern Improvement.
He enjoyed horses, country music and his grandchildren. Ernie loved to be busy.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; one son and daughter-in-law, Shawn Michael and Rhonda, Brighton, Colo.; two daughters, Tanya Marie and fiance, Paul Gengler, Williston, and Dawn Marie, Dickinson; four grandchildren, Desirae, Austin and Levi Tooz, and Alexia Tooz; his mother, Barbara Tooz, Dickinson; one sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Greg Ellexson, Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Kathie, Dickinson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest; one brother-in-law, Ken Kupper and his grandparents. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)
William "Bill" Meier
William A. "Bill" Meier, 87, Orlando, Fla., formerly of Bismarck, died Aug. 26, 1998. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Bill was a native of Napoleon, graduated from high school there and received his bachelor's degree from Valley City State College and a master's degree in school administration from the University of North Dakota.
Bill spent 27 years in the Bismarck school system before retiring in 1971. He was the school system's finance officer for 13 years, principal of Will-Moore Elementary School for nine years and a teacher of junior high English for five years. Before joining the Bismarck system, Meier had taught in Napoleon, served as an educational adviser for the CCC and was junior high principal for the lab school at Valley City State College.
Bill had been a member of the state education association and the Elks. He also coached the Bismarck Legion baseball team for six years, guiding the 1949 squad to a state title.
He is survived by two daughters, Sally Devlin, Orlando, and Judy Hansen, San Antonio; two sisters, Mary Grietl, Lakewood, Calif., and Anne Yon, Crookston, Minn.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mary Watkins
DICKINSON -- Mary Watkins, 79, Dickinson, formerly of Manning, died Sept. 17, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. MDT Tuesday St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Killdeer. Burial will be in Emerson Cemetery, rural Manning.
