BUTTE -- Arnold C. Norberg, 78, rural Butte, died Nov. 1, 1997, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butte. Burial will be in Butte Cemetery.
He is survived by seven brothers, Dale, Minot, Gerald, Valley City, Clarence, Palm Coast, Fla., Floyd, Sterling, Ill., Glenn, Killdeer, Richard, Butte, and Marjo, Princeton, Ill.; and two sisters, Eunice Teyler, Alamosa, Colo., and Marjorie McBeth, West Fargo. (Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake)
Velma Fuchs
Velma Pearl Fuchs, 81, Lemmon, S.D., died Oct. 31, 1997, in a Lemmon nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Paradise community south of Carson. Burial will be in Leith Cemetery.
She is survived by three daughters, Melva Brenner, Carson, Gayle Traynor, Hastings, Minn., and Francine Spring, Rochelle, Ill.; one son, Dewey Moulton, Hastings, Minn.; one brother, Darrell Calhoun, Alhambra, Calif.; and two sisters, Edna Nelson, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Doris Sauer, Aurora, Ill. Carl Ferderer
MINOT -- Carl Ferderer, 56, Minot, died Oct. 31, 1997, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today, at Thomas Funeral Home, Minot, and from 5-8 p.m. at the church, with a rosary said at 7 p.m. at the church. On Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
He was born on April 3, 1941, at Mandan to Emil and Anna (Bauer) Ferderer. He was raised on a farm in Oliver County near Center and attended Center consolidated rural school. As a young adult, he assisted his father and brothers with the operation of the family farm. He moved to Minot in 1963, where he was employed as a mechanic at Krebsbach's Implement dealership. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1964 and served with the 148th Quartermaster's Unit. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam prior to his honorable discharge in 1966.
He returned to Minot where he continued his employment with Krebsbach's. Carl married Verona Woiwode on June 7, 1968, in Minot. They made their home in Minot where he eventually became service manager and shop foreman. Following 21 years with Krebsbach's, he began employment with Magic City Implement in 1985 and continued with them until 1994, when he was selected to serve as an agricultural equipment repair instructor at the Quentin Burdick Job Corps Center. He was in the process of being certified by the Department of Public Instruction as a vocational education Instructor.
He was a member of St. John Apostle Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Verona; one daughter, Krista Ferderer, at home; four sons, Jeffery, with the U.S. Navy on the USS Independence in the Pacific, James, Minot, Douglas, Minneapolis, and Daniel, at home; two grandchildren; his father, Emil, Steele; and one sister, Carol Schoepp, Bismarck. Kenneth Phillips
Kenneth D. Phillips, 54, Billings, Mont., died Oct. 26, 1997. Services were recently held in Billings.
Ken, son of John and Anna (Herf) Phillips, was born in Richardton Aug. 17, 1943. From 1964 to 1966, he served in the Vietnam War. In 1967, he began employment with the U.S. Forest Service and was nearing retirement after a 30 year career. On Aug. 12, 1967, he married Sharon Hardmeyer. In 1970, they moved to Billings, where they lived their lives to the fullest.
As a father, no one was better. His children could always count on his love and support. There was hardly a day he didn't speak with one of them. His dedication and love will always be remembered. We love you, Dad, and will miss you dearly.
Ken was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed golfing, listening to polka music and dancing. Ken was a member of Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge No. 394, American Legion and VFW Billings Height Post No. 6774.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; one son, Chad, Spokane, Wash.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Stephanie and Bill Traeger, Spokane, and Heather Phillips, Seattle, Wash.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Tess, Mansfield, Ohio, and John and Loretta, Richardton; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Eleanor Reams, Coledonia, Ohio, Evelyn and Red Hesselden, and Marie Hooks, all of Mansfield, Rosalie and George Genovese, Toms River, N.J., and Phyllis and Dean Walker, Bismarck; many loving family, friends, and relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.
Anton Holzer
Anton H. "Tony" Holzer, 85, died Nov. 2, 1997, in a local hospital of natural causes. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation is ongoing at Boelter Funeral Home, where a Knights of Columbus rosary and vigil will be said at 7 p.m. this evening.
He was born July 27, 1912, on the family farm in Emmons County, the son of John and Walburga (Jundt) Holzer. In 1926, the family moved across the river and farmed in Sioux County, where Tony attended St. Bernard's Mission School.
He married Eva Ressler on Oct. 15, 1935, at Solen. Following their marriage, they farmed north of Fort Yates until 1937, when they moved to Bismarck. Tony worked for various businesses in auto body repair, and retired from Missouri Valley Motors in 1974.
Tony was a member of Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters and was active at Church of Corpus Christi, where he was a charter member.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and Arlie Reiswig, Bismarck; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Sandra, St. Paul, Minn., Bill and Terri, Bismarck, and David and Dianne, Minneapolis; one sister, Ann Thomas, Bismarck; one brother, Mike, Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva, in 1994; two brothers, John and Joseph; and one sister, Barbara.
The family prefers memorials to Burleigh County Senior Center and Catholic Indian Missions of Fort Yates, N.D., 58538.
Evelyn Klipstein
Evelyn Alida Klipstein, 88, Bismarck, died Oct. 31, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Stenslie officiating.
Evelyn Alida Evenson was born Sept. 13, 1909, in Plaza, the daughter of Hans and Hilda (Sandvig) Evenson. She was raised and educated in Bismarck, where her father worked for Soo Line Railroad.
She later married Elmer Klipstein in Bismarck and had one daughter, Glenda Lea.
Evelyn was a member of Eastern Star, and was very supportive of Animal Humane Society and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and John Sevcik, Hopkins, Minn. and San Antonio, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Hazel "Dolly" Ludemann, Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Hilda Evenson; and her husband, Elmer W. Klipstein.
A special thanks to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, south central unit staff, for the wonderful care. Also Dr. Abel Tello for giving her several more years of quality life. With deep respect and thanks to Robert Wefald for his caring, compassion, and integrity during this last year.
